Thanks for the informative video. I recently received my Jainpai 8800 and am quite pleased with it. Please be aware that the radio ships with two screen protectors. If your screen seems to scratch easily you probably still have the second screen protector attached to the screen. I used a wooden toothpick in the corner of the display to gently remove the second screen protector.
@@tomperone9338 Seems really durable, been using mine for a while now and no scratches or scuffs have appeared, even though I typically just throw it into a bag full of stuff when not using it.
@@hypemilitaria6447 Awesome! I haven't removed the second one yet. I was debating whether I was going to put on a piece of cellphone screen protection film when I did. Sounds like I don't need to bother!
glad you mentioned the screen being so soft. Mine scratched first day and when I run my finger nail over the screen to see if it was a real scratch I made another one..
As someone in the comments said, it's basically because there's a second screen protector film on the radio. No idea why they deemed that necessary but try peeling that second film off; the 'scratches' will peel off with it. Also, I can definitely relate to that 'oh sht' feeling of seeing the scratch appear as the fingernail glides over the screen lmao.
@@hypemilitaria6447 Its not a screen protector... the thing you conclude are a screen protector. If you haved tried to purchase cheat tablets from China. you would know they operate with shippping plastic cover that aint intended to be used as a screen protector for actual use, as its a freaking plastic bag just intended for shipping and protected the actual screenprotector behind if something touches it and so dust etc. dont grease it, and then you would have a dedicated plastic screen protector underneath that is formfitted and intended for some use, and it seems its simply to good formfitted when so many are getting fooled, and its almost hilarious that you dont wanna move the plastic bag from yours, and take that as a screen protector.
checked the Jianpai 8800+ little stubby antenna.. it aint marked anymore.. but on ps100 it peaked two placed at sub 600mhz from 450 to 470 with around +1.4vswr and just under 200mhz with around +2.5vswr
The Jianpai offers USB-C charging in a IP54 body. That's a pretty significant feature that its siblings don't offer. Good overview. Where is the rest of the settings overview?
Kevin Stroud Hi Thanks for the informative video, I purchased one, and now I live in Ontario Canada, chirp does not list this radio in any of its many names and I can not find the Bluetooth app super walkie talkie, any thoughts on how I can program other than manual- and how can I get rid of the transmit tone when I key it makes a noise, Thank you, Kevin
I dont like battery powered devices with inverse displays that only are readable when backlight is on. These inverse displays are a step backwards. No information without additional current drain. The backlit keyboard is great. Love my UV-5R+. It has normal LCD and backlit keyboard too. GPS and USB charging otherwise are gamechangers though.
Thank you for the video! I have a Radtel RT-490 on the way to Brazil from China, but I've noticed - by comparing images - that that's not quite the same radio as the Jianpai. Their casing aren't the same, though all the rest seems to be. Anyone has an experience on the differences? Thank you!
Glad you liked the vid! The internals and software between the Jianpai and the Radtels appear to be identical. The only difference seems to be the housing.
How do you save a frequency into the channels? So if you are in the VFO mode and want to save that frequency can this be saved into channel 011? for example?
Is this the best tactical antenna for this radio to achieve best range in the woods and hills? Can you please post a link to the tactical antenna? Does Radtel 490 have USB charging port? Also, can this radio transmit to Satcom? Many thanks
Hi! Radtel does sell the antenna with the radio as a package on their AliExpress store. It's exactly the same as the ABBREE antenna that I've used in the video. And yup, for their price, the ABBREE antenna definitely the best tactical antenna to have. Decent reception and transmit on all the bands I've tried so far even in urban areas. www.aliexpress.com/item/4000127582645.html Also, the charging options depends on the battery. I've seen some RT490 batteries with a USB-C port and some that only have ordinary charging contacts. And the radio is able to operate on the 1.25m VHF bands that satcom uses.
There is another radio that I think it's made by the same company radtel, that has a keyboard that's almost identical but the display is a lot nicer and it has more options Anyone know what model radio that is that I'm talking about ? I can't remember what it was but I remember looking at this radio and then seeing some videos and one of them had this other radio and the display was a lot nicer the graphics were a lot nicer and it had a whole bunch of menu functions on the display I just can't find it and I don't remember what the model was But it did look a lot like this radio in terms of the keypad and the size and the buttons and knobs it looked almost identical to this radio put the display was so much different and better
Does anyone know how to program in those GPS memories, or what those memories are for, I believe it is to save coordinates and know the distances we are in that compass
I believe it allows you to save other users co-ordinates. GPS works very well and if you set ANI to 'ON', the radio transmits your co-ordinates when 1st pressing PTT. You can then see on a radar type display users positions in relation to yourself. Very handy feature.
I can't get the android bluetooth app connected to the radio. My phone syncs with the radio but the app doesn't see the radio.. Any pointers would be great. Mine is the Jianpai 8800 plus with usb charging from banggood
For Bluetooth I found it needed to be paired but not connected in the android settings. Once listed as a BT device don't connect via BT settings. Connect via the app only.
Hi, you said the "FRS frequencies don't need a license" which is normally correct, but that's only half the story. FRS radios approved by the FCC are power limited to 500mW and do not have removable antennas. So the use of this other than for ham radio use could be illegal. Also if its not approved for ham radio use it could also be illegal. I just want people to be aware of legalities. This info might not be the same in all countries or accurate today, so check with your local authorities. Thanks.
Nice radio project. Have you considered testing TX splatter over other frequencies when in VHF? Watched some alarming reviews perhaps worth recommending manufacturer to fix this negative issue. Thanks for your presentation and keep up the great content 👍
The Jianpai have a different enclosure and offer some features the others doesn't have!! And you even can find a Baofeng version of the Radtel 490, as well as the Abbree ar869...
HI. Have you used a Radtel's program Multiband? Comparing to Chirp for me is awful. What do you think? I tried to copy something from Chirp but it was not possible or I could not do this.
I've found it to be lacking in features but otherwise usable. Unfortunately, I have no idea which CHIRP radio profile to program this radio with so I have to use Radtel's software.

Does anybody know how to unlock talking in air band? (118-136) I'm a pilot and would be very usefull to have that option.
Very informative. Thanks for your help.
You're very welcome!
Great video! Hope to see more on this one. Would love to see how the Bluetooth headset functionality works.
If it is a Radtel RT-490 clone, then the radio does not work with a Bluetooth headset
hello! any idea why my same radio dooes not have an option to change the language to english? Has only chinese in menu number 18. Thanks
You may have gotten the Chinese market version. Apparently, the language on the radios are market-specific.
hello! anyway to change the language from chinese to english? My radio does not have this option in menu number 18. Thanks!
you can also put on of those cell phone protector sheets to protect the screen
The scan is reversible by rotating the VFO knob one click in either direction.
