Rebuilt Engine On The Dyno. Low Oil Pressure!

  • Had to cut short an engine dyno session a few weeks ago. Oil pressure was only 50 psig at high rpm. Spoiler Alert: The reason for the low oil pressure ended up being a week or damaged oil pump relief spring. In this video I try to explain the troubleshooting process that led me to that conclusion.
    I did make a mistake in the video where I said this M155 pump is high pressure. It is not. It is standard pressure. But on the dyno, engines with this pump usually make 65 to 75 psig.

    I can’t wait until the update video of this. Great job

      Thanks 👍 After reviewing how rough the engine ran of the test stand I'm going to ditch the efi for the dyno and go with carburetor. That will simplify troubleshooting (if any is needed)

    Good work, Karl. By the way, would you have any pics/videos of a well ported iron LT-1 head? ld like to view.

      I'll see if I can find the photos of a set of iron heads that Lloyd Elliot did for a customer about 2 years ago.

      @@EllweinEngines Thanks very much. Finally getting around to building a LT-1 that I literally found in the mud ($40). I think it will make a stout little motor for a dd g-body.

      Thanks. He's planning to use it for only the drag stip. Very little street.

    Another good video. I am curious about something. I have worked on quite a few of these. and im sure you have worked on way more than I have. But anytime you have tore down the OEM bottom end. Didi you ever notice the factory rear main size? Why are they different? is it because of the one piece seal? Always a .001 and all the others are std.

      Yes I looked at a few factory bearings for curiosity and many are like that. I assumed because they have such a precise assembly system and super tight main clearance specs. I guessed that they had that bearing volume measurment system in place for these 1990's LT1's and were able to be told right off the bat by their machine which bearing to select.

      @EllweinEngines I am sure you are correct on that. I wasn't sure why they were assembled that way. In my opinion the 90s LT1 is a very under rated design. It doesn't really get the credit it deserves. I buy them when I can find them. Blown up or not. I see a lot of people don't like them because of the cooling system. But I think it's only because they don't understand how to fill it. And I looked on that efi website you told me about. They had every connection I needed for a wire harness

    So you prefer the high pressure spring over the standard spring with a stock style oil pump? (What are you bearing Clearances for the mains and the rods)

    • @EllweinEngines
      @EllweinEngines  2 месяца назад +1

      Yes, I prefer that HP for any and all engines, even bone stock. My builds always target 0.002" mains minimum and 0.003" max for #1/2/3/4 and .003 to .004" for the rear main. Rods are always 0.002 to 0.0025"

      @@EllweinEngines Thank you know i have to rip the oil pan off again and replace spring before i drop back into car lol
