Looking back, you'd think the Terran navy would've researched on specialized ships to deal with the mass waves of zerg aerial units. Like ships that are simply blocks bristling in point defense to spam the void with enough dakka to make an ork smile
Purely from a flavor standpoint, a ship like that would simply not fit a typical Terran arsenal. Remember, the Terrans are all about doing more with less, which means a lot of their designs would also have a secondary function (see: Siege tanks as the main battle tank but also as self propelled artillery or Medivacs as dropships and medical aid). Well, according to the Adjutant, Kerrigan has a class 12 psionic waveform and considering some of the things she can do she is extremely powerful psionicist, So she probably could psychically manipulate the transmission so she could do whatever the fuck she wanted with it, including sending her own response
I think I read on the Starcraft wiki that zerg flyers utilize rudimentary psionic abilities to fly in addition to wings and gas bags. Explains why they can fly out of an atmosphere, but not why those mutalisks are still flapping their wings when they have no air for their wings to push.

@nythreefer Ah, but that's the glory of chemical propellants: we *are* developing new ones all the time. We all know Mengsk has no issue sacrificing his son to achieve his goal.
well it's not explained in the game, but, apparently, the Zerg can fly in space because they recieved some of the psionic energy from the Xel'Naga when they made them evolve faster.
@Vuvuzelian Aiur however wasn't overrun until the Overmind itself was destroyed - the Conclave actually managed to still hold its ground prior to Tassadar's arrival and even believed they were winning the war. Killing the Overmind unfortunately set the Zerg wild.
i agree. but i'm theorizing under 2 assumptions: 1, valerian has an escape plan, and 2, media isn't his top concern. it's prbly not good to assume this, since hedge bet is only to minimize loss, in case of loss. but nothing can offset a catastrophic loss. but 3 possible outcomes (all assuming valerian survive), 2 out of 3 favors him. and given his personality, he would take it. cheers :)
@hurisija I think he's probably referring to when she backstabbed the Dominion and Protoss after they'd teamed up to fight the UED. Well... either that, or he just suffers from a really severe case of protagonist-centred morality.
@Kamfrenchie the main plot i agree, but the part with Emperor Mengsk and Valerian. They are loosely based off Juluis Caesar and his heir Octavian. The Tyrant who will be replaced by the heir who is a populist after he proves his legitimacy. The battle of Char was part of his Final war of the Roman Republic.
When the drop pods were landing and the zerg were just killing them as they landed those marines screaming, at first I was like XD XD GET REKT BOOYYYY and than I replayed it and imagined being them ,,Ive got zerg commin out of my. cuts off...." So the zerg... the zerg... mutalisks... fly in space...by...by... cringes... diarrhea... help, just, just, help.

He also didn't sacrifice young women to his ennemy
Sooo, frontal assault bad idea....what else you gonna assault? The backdoor? Oh i know, lets sneak the massive battlecruisers past the giant orbital defences! That'll sure work....
@zodiacsicario not really, i don't remember collisions occuring frequently in WW2, their formations were made so collisions wouldn't happen. Blizzard just didn't give a sit about coherence in SC2, you can see that in all the cutscenes
Their muscles aren't going to stop working on account of being in space, they can survive in the vacuum but they don't live there, it's not uncommon for a living thing to make limb motions it normally does to move, even where that won't work...nevermind that it may very well be how it works, they may just do something else in tandem with the motion of flapping their wings to move themselves in a vacuum.
"Ill see you boys on the ground" Boy I would hate to be on Char, I would shit my pants so hard id take the whole battlecruiser down with me. Minks! You said this was going to be a well done textbook invasion. Damn you and your propaganda!
@LtSurge659 usually you are right, the best strategy would be multiple invasions on a planet's surface, but the Terran's force is too small and would be overrun, that's hwy the stuck together, cuz that's what Terran's do!
Maybe the mutalisks have an air jet, like a squid, with an internal pocket of gas to propel themselves. Like a squadron of pointlessly flapping murder-bats sailing the stars on clouds of fart.
@Kamfrenchie mmm maybe you r right about blizzard, but collisions did occur in ww2. specially when doing maneuvers to avoid fighters and flak screens, there are a lot of pictures of bombers with their wings riped of by other bombers, or by bombs from a bomber above him droped them without care.
how Mengsk cant see Raynor: either he was paying more attention to his son and not the other people in the room, or the transmission thing has a set range of vision in front, idk, its the future. Kerrigan intruding on transmissions: shes the most powerful psychic in the universe, she can do many things
@LtSurge659 I have a feeling the zerg would've found out the false zerg, even if they didn't the swarm air uints quickly found the fleet, so the landing parties on both the dark and light would've been attacked and once they hit ground they were already under a bunch of shit. The only reason they survived was by taking out that air base or the underground base
I'd hate to be a marine in that situation. Getting dissolved by roach acid while getting hit in the face with a hydra spine while getting incapacitated by zerglings while gettings blown up by banelings, and not even being able to get off a single shot. lol the ghosts didn't even cloak
Terran tech is multifunction by design so interceptors and frigates aren't present. Why there were not Vikings is a better question, as their aerial purpose is for direct engagement
Such as the battlecruisers we see, which serve as tactical ships, carriers, battleships and are capable of keeping constant fire on enemies all in one ship. They don't excell in any one place, but they can use the tools they have to great affect. A Yamato cannon is a Yamato cannon whether it's a space station or a scourge
@LtSurge659 A frontal assault can work, if you're smart enough to be fast about it and have more firepower than the enemy(the terrans had neither since they weren't the main fighting force["where are you, you took HALF the fleet"] and the ships were hanging around the planet for a while letting the zerg get ready along with those drop pods hitting ground pretty far apart both distance wise and time wise, meaning the main zerg force picked them off individually.)
@goJesusandStarcraft Oh yeah, forgot to mention they should have also scrambled like 30 Wraith fighters per Battlecruiser, you can mass them up quicker and 'm pretty sure they work in space and they're pretty good vs mutas
moving wings and muscles can not propel you through a vacuum. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Law of physics. If the mutalisk are moving forward, there would have to be some kind of energy release in the opposite direction. Like a rocket propelled through space. There is burnt fuel projecting out the back with equal force. Flapping wings, and moving muscles won't cause motion. There must be an energy release or some sort or friction or a medium of some sort.
@buddieclub1 Naaaaah, actually the battle cruisers are kinda compared to the mountains. It's just that everything else is too big. FUN FACT!: Char was never named. Jim Raynor named it when he visited the planet.
@Kamfrenchie 4 things in common-1) Mengsk gained power over a failing government through illegitimate means as he did. 2) He gained power though military control as he did. 3) He is a tyrant and populist. 4) The one person who can rise to be his heir feels he has to accomplish what Mengsk could not in order to solidify his legitimacy. You show no support in your argument, it is all opinion. No support, no evidence, no argument, no worthy debate. Go learn to argue.

well it's not explained in the game, but, apparently, the Zerg can fly in space because they recieved some of the psionic energy from the Xel'Naga when they made them evolve faster.
@Vuvuzelian Aiur however wasn't overrun until the Overmind itself was destroyed - the Conclave actually managed to still hold its ground prior to Tassadar's arrival and even believed they were winning the war. Killing the Overmind unfortunately set the Zerg wild.
i agree. but i'm theorizing under 2 assumptions: 1, valerian has an escape plan, and 2, media isn't his top concern. it's prbly not good to assume this, since hedge bet is only to minimize loss, in case of loss. but nothing can offset a catastrophic loss. but 3 possible outcomes (all assuming valerian survive), 2 out of 3 favors him. and given his personality, he would take it. cheers :)
as sc2 wiki states they are extracting a sort of high pressure gas that allows them to fly in space their flapping is just on instinct
Says something about a mantis screamer that could move through space in the Starcraft wiki. I'm not sure if it uses its wings for that though.
When the drop pods were landing and the zerg were just killing them as they landed those marines screaming, at first I was like XD XD GET REKT BOOYYYY and than I replayed it and imagined being them ,,Ive got zerg commin out of my. cuts off...." ANY STATION ON THIS NET!?!? WE NEED FIRE SUPPORT!!! WE NEED FIRE SUPPORT!!! WE NEED IT NOW, AAAAUUUAAAWWAAAAAA..cuts off... welp that was an emotional rolercoaster I never wanna visit again, hoooo, I need a breather... By the way people saying ,, how do mutas fly there is no gravity and no air!" the devs said they fly by releasing green goo (revealed to be acid which they attack with). So the zerg... the zerg... mutalisks... fly in space...by...by... cringes... diarrhea... help, just, just, help.
What sort of drugs were you on when you posted this?
"That treacherous bitch cannot be saved" not to mention that he was the one who betrayed her ...
I always wondered, how can Kerrigan film herself and appear on their screens ?!
She has corrupted Terran Buildings and Units
Wow i took My time answering
@AdrenalineAndLove
Galactic AOL dude....XD
reminds me of the Futurama episode where they go online.
The Professor: "Good new everyone, several years ago I logged on to AOL, and now were finally connected to the internet!"
Alexander the Great's steed, a mighty stallion. Good name.
Funny. The UED flagship was named Aleksander.
@TheFivegoodemperors
caesa was also a general in the army o rome, and gained power thanks to his glory acquired in his campaign aswel, and he ws a good ruler and a conqueror, ad he didn't spend trillions (god knows how) to chase a heroic alcoholic rebe that helped him to get the power. He also didn't sacrifice young women to his ennemy
Sooo, frontal assault bad idea....what else you gonna assault? The backdoor? Oh i know, lets sneak the massive battlecruisers past the giant orbital defences! That'll sure work....
@zodiacsicario
not really, i don't remember collisions occuring frequently in WW2, their formations were made so collisions wouldn't happen. Blizzard just didn't give a sit about coherence in SC2, you can see that in all the cutscenes
They don't Blizzard already explained that things like Mutalisk and Overload is able to produce gas from their body to help propel them in space.
Damn you and your propaganda!
damn 14 years ago i feel old
@LtSurge659 usually you are right, the best strategy would be multiple invasions on a planet's surface, but the Terran's force is too small and would be overrun, that's hwy the stuck together, cuz that's what Terran's do!
All three of those owed everything to Aliens and Starship Troopers.
Good thing Kerrigan has video chat. Much more dramatic.
There is no creature that could use wings to move in a vacuum.
I wish my alarm clock sounded like the BC's warning sirens.
how Mengsk cant see Raynor: either he was paying more attention to his son and not the other people in the room, or the transmission thing has a set range of vision in front, idk, its the future.
Kerrigan intruding on transmissions: shes the most powerful psychic in the universe, she can do many things
One hell of an invasion
@LtSurge659 I have a feeling the zerg would've found out the false zerg, even if they didn't the swarm air uints quickly found the fleet, so the landing parties on both the dark and light would've been attacked and once they hit ground they were already under a bunch of shit. The only reason they survived was by taking out that air base or the underground base
kinda pissed we didnt get to use the hyperion
They hired new players to Starcraft to opperate the battlecruisers
I have a feeling "Jr." is worse then his father and planning to overthrow his father as emperor. He so much like his father to me.
The moment you realize Valerian looks like Horner with a wig on... -_-
Battlecruisers can stack together without collision in the gameplay. How come they can't do that in the cutscene?
Lore is not the same thing as gameplay.
I'd hate to be a marine in that situation. Getting dissolved by roach acid while getting hit in the face with a hydra spine while getting incapacitated by zerglings while gettings blown up by banelings, and not even being able to get off a single shot.
lol the ghosts didn't even cloak
the closest thing to a starship troopers RTS experience
What is it with Terrans and flying capital ships without any smaller escort craft.
Interceptors and frigates exist for this exact reason.
I swear, the head of Arcturus looks like a ghost from some spiritual session.
@LtSurge659 The zerg's homeworld is Zerus...the overmind just liked some bbq so he moved there...
wow shes gonna infest them she will have a massiv army of marines for like seven seconds
Part of me suspects this mission helped inspire helldivers
@Kamfrenchie 4 things in common-1) Mengsk gained power over a failing government through illegitimate means as he did. 2) He gained power though military control as he did. 3) He is a tyrant and populist. 4) The one person who can rise to be his heir feels he has to accomplish what Mengsk could not in order to solidify his legitimacy. You show no support in your argument, it is all opinion. No support, no evidence, no argument, no worthy debate. Go learn to argue.
