Yea but preserve jars cost roughly 1,700 gold to make and a keg is just 700 gold plus an Oak Resin. edit: I factored this by factoring wood as the base component cost of 10g/wood from the year 1 robin's shop and making each coal take rightly as 10 wood (or 100g/coal). Then I factored that coal as 1 per bar that was smelted, and both either 10 stone or 5 of any the generic ores(copper/iron) would also count as 10 wood. Chopping a tree or finding and breaking these standard ore nodes are roughly equivalent. Trees take longer to break and run out; have to be bought sometimes, whereas ores can be gathered infinitely instead of running out but can be a bit farther apart at times. With that, the preserve's jar is 50 wood, 40 stone(I'll mirror it to 40 wood as stone rarely gets used in crafting recipes) and 8 coal(or 80 wood in the charcoal kiln) for 170 wood, or 1,700 gold of value when bought from Robin's. The keg is 30 wood, 1 copper bar(10 wood twice for 5 ore and 1 coal = 20 wood), 1 iron bar (20 wood), and one Oak Resin(somewhere between the full 80 wood cost of a tapper, and a small fraction of that amount over time) for between 700 gold and 1500 gold of value when bought from Robin's. Depending on how old your tappers are; getting cheaper over time.
Rainbow shells can also be used in the sewing machine (not the dye pots) to dye clothes without having to locate something of each color for the dye pots! So I hang on to them for that because I like making clothes. Out of all the professions in the game I love foraging the most. Not for the rewards or anything but just that it enhances the exploration feeling and outdoorsy nature of the game. Autumn with the leaves and the lovely music is very cathartic and soothing.
Another benefit to the Botanist perk is that forageable items only take up 1 slot. Makes it handy when planting the seasonal seeds and they only take up 4 slots instead of a potential 12.
Think you missed the secret Bear berry bonus which triples salmon and blackberry sell prices, which makes them decent cash but its definitely a late game thing only available after winter year 1.
I know not a lot of people enjoy salmon berries, but I adore getting Foraging milestones in time for Salmon and Black berry seasons; I can get around 200 salmon berries, and then 300 blackberries. They’re super useful for mines, just so much energy for completely free, and it leaves my salad money to better things

There's one little bit of deeper mechanics that would've been really good to have in this guide: the mechanics of how foragables spawn and despawn. Basically, they have a chance to spawn on certain set tiles on each day; each area can have up to 6 foragable items in it. Most importantly, foragables don't just despawn over night! Instead, every foragable still on the ground will be culled every Sunday. There really isn't much reason to go out foraging on any other day (barring events like salmonberry and blackberry season) since there will almost never be enough lucky rolls to reach the item limit on any one screen. This also means that Sunday is the *worst* day for foraging.

Salmonberries and Blackberries can have their sell price tripled with Bear's Knowledge, though like spring onions by the time it's available it's insignificant. Crocus is loved by Sandy. I use Fiber seeds in winter like wheat when transitioning from summer to fall. It keeps all the land I need tilled and it saves time from me having to till, water, and break any debris that would pop into existence come spring. such a time saver
I always devote salmonberry / blackberry season purely to collecting all the bushes, with enough of them its practically impossible to run out before the next one begins, making energy and health no longer an issue for the rest of the game without spending any gold. Also the base 6 fruit trees are great for universally liked gifts, its a low effort way to gift to anyone you bump into.
fun note: if a fruit tree is struck in the final two days of a production season (ex. spring for cherry) it will continue producing coal for three days regardless
@@_Moralle Correct, it should be 8. If you are missing one, it's possible for a stump's regrowth to be blocked by something like a mahogany sapling though.
Lvl 1 foraging also allows you to pull up normal tree seeds from the ground before they sprout. Before lvl 1 you just destroy them. After, you can gather them. On my normal farm, I will chop down the tops of all the trees then do a lap around the farm each day to see new seeds have spawned from stumps. It's a great way to find lots of seeds for field snacks in early spring. Plus you end up being MUCH closer to lvl 4 foraging before salmon berry season.

That way they don't take up precious space on your farm that could be otherwise utilised and as a bonus they never break down so you don't have to constantly keep renewing your fences.
thanks a ton dude! even tho i have played stardew for hours and hours, I'm still need to get a little familiar with the game, i put my expectations of my skills about too high sometimes when i watch the 100 days video and think i can do about the same as them and i do 1/4 of what they did and get discouraged, i watch people get to floor 40 in like day 7 when i can barely reach floor 20 in the mines, and your videos had been helping me a ton to get new knowledge about the game so thank you so much
Aren’t these videos just so amazing!? (If u want to skip the next part its just me describing how much i love the game and that I’ve gained skill over time, afterwards i start talking about the video.) I have been playing stardew valley for many many years, I’ve never completed the game but i would say im quite good at the game. My first save i made when i was a kid, i played four years aaaand well- i had about 10k, i hadn’t reached the bottom of the mine, i didn’t have the community center completed yet alone even know what ginger island was, but I had fun. Since i have made six new worlds, i haven’t ever finished the game but i make new ones with my friends, i make different ones on different Devices (switch, pc, ps4, etc.) and Ive probably play a total of about 100-500 hours a year. My point is even though i don’t really need these videos, i enjoy them so much. They are so informative and entertaining. I love watching them because it makes me feel that awesome feeling of stardew valley life when i cant play the game, thanks man.
Awesome video as always! ✨ the only detail that might be good to share is that the fruit trees will progress from standard to iridium quality produce every year that they’re planted. I learnt this by accident but if I’d known sooner I would have definitely planted them far sooner in the game. Thank you so much for sharing such excellent content!
My favorite thing about the Botany skill is that it saves you so much room for those of us who have to pick up everything we see regardless of value. I make no excuses or apologies for my hoarder tendencies...
Bro I just found you by accident man I gotta tell you your video was so in depth straight to the point and entertaining amazing job I can’t wait to see your channel grow and expand because it’s inevitable just keep grinding and there’s no way you won’t get to 1 mil+ subs!!!
Something missing from your section about the secret woods: if you purchase a chair from Robin, you can place the chair facing the log blocking the entrance, sit down, then stand up on the other side of the log. The chair should be close enough for you to grab from the far side on your way out, allowing you to leave.
Depending on which farm you start with, you should already start with a chair. I'm actually surprised that this wasn't mentioned sooner. Because the chair is an awesome way to bypass the fallen log blocking the secret woods. HOWEVER, I highly recommend getting your Axe upgraded to just copper before attempting this because you can't chop the stumps with the normal axe you get (I know this is obviously to most players, but for those who have just gotten into Stardew Valley)
the fart sound for tapping saps was my favorite. PS - Highly informative and excellent video. Even though I already knew all these things, I still very much enjoyed watching it even just to re-enforce my memory about this information. I like the format too, very clean.
Nice guide! The Mahogany tree is actually treated differently by tree fertilizer, they have a high chance of growing each night with the fertilizer, versus guaranteed every night!
fruit trees and mushroom trees are good for making your farm pretty. always plant a couple fruit trees near grandpas grave with a paved sitting area and the CC hero trophy to show grandpa also always take botanist, just because it'll force all foraged items into 1 inventory slot. great if you're a hoarder like me and want the chests to be neat. and lots of villagers have a loved foreagable so having an iridium quality gift at all times is great
12:26 I found out that the rainbow shell can also be used in conjunction with the sewing machine, it will allow you to dye your clothing whatever color you want.
this foraging event isnt very big, but as a real life, vegetarian mushroom forager, it was very very exciting to me. (pointed out vegetarian because mushrooms can replace a lot, and i mean a LOT, of meat) i started a new playthrough after abandoning the game for around a year and as usual, i chose the forest farm because even if i didnt play, i did, however, stalk the stardew valley wiki and learned that foraging happens there. after going to my farm, i began exploring it. in the spot where stumps spawn, i found a morel. i had never found a mushroom in the game before so that itself made me want to scream. picked it up. it was a gold quality. that time, i DID, in fact scream. my first ever stardew mushroom was a gold quality. next day, i found a silver morel and a gold horseradish. too bad i cant access that playthrough anymore- i was so pumped because morels are very rare in real life and my dream was to find one there. this was close enough i guess. edit: i am relieved holly has no use because it is NOT edible, it is actually mildly poisonous. my father ate a berry as a child and got sick, so learn from his mistakes and do your research before eating anything you forage. stay safe, please.
"Dandelions, most common in cindersap forest, and loved by no one." I feel you, Dandelions. I love you though. (Real talk though, I feel like Jaz at the very least should like dandelions, cuz kids love blowing dandelion seeds).
great video! i'd like to add an important note you didn't talk about in the video: do NOT cut down fruit trees! they will not regrow! you will lose the tree! so be especially sure of the spot you choose when placing your fruit tree saplings.
Important to note that some beach forage has uses if you’re into using fish ponds, and some of the regular forage can be turned into jelly and wine if you need more money early on. And that you can make the seeds by tossing specific forage in the seed maker
1) I love your videos. As a new player to Stardew valley they are helping me out so much! Thank you. 2) you should do a video on npc relationships/schedules
Haven't watched even a second of thos video yet but I would like to say that I miss the Spring Onion Trick - the ad ended while I was typing this and dude, that opener was amazing. Subscribed
So I never see anyone talking about this but fiber seeds grow in winter (which is useful because there are no weeds outside only in the mines) and stay planted between seasons. So I plant them to keep my layout in place in between winter and spring. You could also use this in between spring and summer (coffee plants keep but they produce multiple harvests so if you want something that will grow once, so you can free up space.) From Summer to Fall I would skip this because regular seeds preserve fertilizer better (I tend to use a mix of wheat and sunflower). In terms of money making this probably isn’t going to be profitable. But all of the ingredients are easily dropped as part of regular foraging (mixed seeds, sap and clay) and fibers used in a lot of crafting (i.e. totems, wild bait, scarecrows). Most importantly it will save you a lot of time in planting because you won’t have to retill a lot. If you end up using this you might want to tap a couple hardwood trees to have a regular supply of sap (also useful for fertilizer).
btw the mushroom you get from tapping mushroom trees is not random. if you harvest a mushroom on day 10 or20 next time you get a purple mushroom after that will be a red mushroom. every time after that will be a common mushroom except in fall where it continues to be red mushrooms.
I'd mention that you can use tree fertilizer on trees outside of the farm and even plant trees in cindersap forest. Giving you a great source of wood in winter without taking up space on the farm.
Love your videos, so fun. Best pacing on youtube, chill even under stress (Haboo/Tyler mod speedrun) and zero down time, 100% entertaining. I'm on my second playthrough but always get a few surprises from your guides. Cool of you to integrate a correction section, and your charts with that profit per day column. Cheers!
Great video but you mentioned that the only way to get into the secret woods is with a steel axe. However, it's relatively easy in 1.5 to place a chair next to the log and then sit on it to get in and out of the woods
I have played so many hours and love your guides for the sanity check they provide to some pesky questions, like: are spring onions good for anything at all? (No.) And tiny things, like I didn't know you could get 4 salmonberry with a food buff. Super nice to fill out around the edges of my SDV knowledge.
Botanist is so OP... Not having to use more than one space in inventory and chests is such a quality of life improvement I never even consider other options for foraging upgrades.
I feel like you could have also mentioned the Bear mission from secret note #23 as it directly influences selling price of salmonberried and blackberries, but other than that this is a solid vid :)
Mahogany trees actually grow slower than other standard trees! Unfertalized, its a 15% chance every night, and when fertalized, only has a 60% chance to grow every night, which is a massive difference compared to normal trees Also, 9 times out of 10, crafting winter seeds to sell isnt worth it. Only craft them to use them, and then sell at the end of season. You can also use crystal fruit as a fruit for wine making, which is very nice if you dont have a starfruit/ancient fruit filled greenhouse yet!
Crystal Fruit is a lot more valuable than you'd think. I don't remember the specifics but I remember it's on par or more valuable than peaches and pomegranates, making it an excellent candidate for kegs! It's no Star or Ancient Fruit, but in a Year 1 Winter where you have limited resources and ways to make money. Simply foraging for them on Saturdays between days of fishing and popping them into kegs will give you an even greater boost of money to start out Year 2
Honestly, botanist I'll always choose, especially since I can before salmonberry season year 2, since by that time, if you know what you're doing, you can amass a ton of them, and basically never need to worry about energy, potentially lasting up until next spring
In summer I like making and planting the summer seeds because It requires less ingredients, and they are easier to get in the right quantities. Soo, yeah, good season to make tea saplings
Two(maybe) corrections On the forest farm I remember either 7 or 8 because two sections one is 4 the other is either 3 or 4(this is the maybe I may be delusional and remembering things incorrectly) Secondly you CAN get to the secret forest early by taking your chair and basically glitching to the other side you just can’t chop chop any of the stumps. Hope this helps anyone
The crystal fruit (not sure if that's the name) gives quite good health and energy too, i use it as substitute for cheese or any other food with good health and energy.
Great video, but you didn`t mention Cactus Fruit or Ginger as forageables. Nor did you mention the Farm Cave Choice as both options are good foraging spots. Also Mushroom Tree Seed can be bought from Mr Qi Walnut Room.
Chart! Also, this video would have been such a savior months ago, but it's really helpful regardless. Even though I pickup almost all items on spot lol
Another "tip": winter forage items sell for a lot! 380 golds if you sell one of each basic quality. If you farm winter forage all winter, you can make a lot, especially for the first year when you're probably low on cash
Tree seeds can be found before reaching foraging level one through shaking trees, but they only start dropping from felled trees at foraging level one Also, the four corners farm has one respawning hardwood stump in the bottom left corner of the top left quadrant Hope this helps :)
I don’t like farming for audibles on my main farm area because once they grow, they’re not considered a crap. So the hoed soil and fertilizer underneath goes away. In winter, I grow fiber!
Helping the algorithm promote your videos. And just wanted to say thank you for making such informative content! I’m 500+ hours in and can say without your videos I may have quit in frustration before I hit hour 10! 😁🙏📿
I laughed OUT LOUD when you got to the mahogany tree with the tapper. The fart sound was hilarious. But that being said, if you make a large enough mahogany tree farm you'll have endless supply of sap. Which will turn into high quality fertilizer. PROFIT!!!!
I would argue that the charcoal fruit tree is a special tree making it so that stardew has 3 special trees it may not be permanent but i would argue that makes it more special
For the winter stuff (winter root and snow yam) you can find then on the ground you don’t have to hit the ground. They just don’t spawn in as much I think. But that’s how I got all of mine was finding them on the ground (winter root I also found in the mines)
While still not amazing for profit, a fruit tree's produce increases in quality for each year that passes; from silver, to gold, to iridium. So you'll earn a bit more than what the video indicated.
So, I've noticed some differences with some of this info in my game. I've had trees with Tree fertilizer planted at the same time take different amounts of time to fully grow. Also I've gotten two Mahogany Seeds from a single tree before on multiple occasions. EDIT: I have learned that Mahogany Trees specifically only get boosted to a 60% chance to grow with Tree Fertilizer as opposed to the 100% chance of Oak, Pine, and Maple trees. Another note in regards to Fruit trees, every year (to the date the tree started producing) the fruit will go up in quality.
I honestly didn't know about the increased beach spawns during certain summer days! You forget to mention the two Qi related forging items, the heavy tapper and the mushroom tree seeds. Also, I could have sworn the pancake recipe called for maple syrup but I double checked and they don't, guess I misremembered haha.
Honestly my favorite part of Botanist is also inventory management. Having all forageables only taking one slot each is so much nicer than having three spaces of inventory for the same item

I have been playing stardew valley for many many years, I’ve never completed the game but i would say im quite good at the game.
Four corners farm also has two hardwood stumps. Ginger spawns on Ginger Island similarly to spring onion, but is not season restricted.
It's worth noting that the gatherer profession applies to truffles too. Can be a big money maker.
Nice guide! The Mahogany tree is actually treated differently by tree fertilizer, they have a high chance of growing each night with the fertilizer, versus guaranteed every night!
fruit trees and mushroom trees are good for making your farm pretty. always plant a couple fruit trees near grandpas grave with a paved sitting area and the CC hero trophy to show grandpa
also always take botanist, just because it'll force all foraged items into 1 inventory slot. great if you're a hoarder like me and want the chests to be neat. and lots of villagers have a loved foreagable so having an iridium quality gift at all times is great
I've got to give you a like just for that intro.
Stardew, the Last Farmbender.
Loving these guides!! So thorough and well edited, with just the right amount of comedy!
Much love from Washington…keep it up :)

I found out that the rainbow shell can also be used in conjunction with the sewing machine, it will allow you to dye your clothing whatever color you want.
this foraging event isnt very big, but as a real life, vegetarian mushroom forager, it was very very exciting to me.
You sound like an great person
@@guacamollie2460 assuming you mean sarcastically, how the heck can you see that through my comment about my stardew valley story-
@@sidney-the-spotted-tabby i don't think they meant it sarcastically, you genuinely sound cool. i hope you find some nice mushrooms this fall!
I think it would’ve been neat to mention the maple syrup bear quest that makes your salmon/blackberries sell for mkre
Subscribed
Awesome dude. Found your channel as I started another Stardew Run a couple weeks ago and glad you're still making new content!
Tea leaves can also be put in preserve jars. Pickled tea leaves will bring a few gold in early game.
7:44 Sping is now my new fav word
I just started playing and you are the ONLY PERSON that actually has good guides. Thank you so much for being informative!
Cheers!
Your videos are so good! Thank you for prepping me for the expanse that is stardew valley! Keep on keeping on!
The introduction alone deserves a like hahaha, nice video, truly
16:45 "it teleports you to this statue on the beach"
Proceeds to not show it
Sigma move
I feel like you could have also mentioned the Bear mission from secret note #23 as it directly influences selling price of salmonberried and blackberries, but other than that this is a solid vid :)
Mahogany trees actually grow slower than other standard trees! Unfertalized, its a 15% chance every night, and when fertalized, only has a 60% chance to grow every night, which is a massive difference compared to normal trees
Also, 9 times out of 10, crafting winter seeds to sell isnt worth it. Only craft them to use them, and then sell at the end of season. You can also use crystal fruit as a fruit for wine making, which is very nice if you dont have a starfruit/ancient fruit filled greenhouse yet!
Sweet! Learned something really fast. Didn't know that you could shake the trees or I forgot.
I really love playing the game in "Sping".
7:45 sping 😎
Love the videos man! These guides are the best
i actually like that mahogany trees give sap, i never seem to have enough, at least early to mid game, for fertilizer
Best intro I’ve ever seen
I wish you talked more about the beach forageables but other than that great vid!
fun fact: for some reason, gatherer works on quartz and fire quartz on the mines.
4:00 there is more than 3 respawning hardwood stumps on the forest farm there is a lower and upper section that has 3 each
Two(maybe) corrections
On the forest farm I remember either 7 or 8 because two sections one is 4 the other is either 3 or 4(this is the maybe I may be delusional and remembering things incorrectly)
Secondly you CAN get to the secret forest early by taking your chair and basically glitching to the other side you just can’t chop chop any of the stumps.
Hope this helps anyone
Botanist perk, my beloved ❤
Easily one of my favorite perks in the game, with chance for double harvest coming in 2nd
7:40 ah yes my favorite season
sping
also this video was really helpful, thanks salmence!
Bruh there is no doubt botanist is best. Reducing each foragable to ONE inventory slot is huge
Thanks for doing what you do…my number one go to for stardew valley guides 😎👍
Chart! Also, this video would have been such a savior months ago, but it's really helpful regardless. Even though I pickup almost all items on spot lol
don’t forget maple syrup for the bear!!
Another "tip": winter forage items sell for a lot! 380 golds if you sell one of each basic quality. If you farm winter forage all winter, you can make a lot, especially for the first year when you're probably low on cash
Tree seeds can be found before reaching foraging level one through shaking trees, but they only start dropping from felled trees at foraging level one
Also, the four corners farm has one respawning hardwood stump in the bottom left corner of the top left quadrant
Hope this helps :)
also, the four corners farm spawns one large stump daily and holly can be used in the remixed winter foraging bundle
PROFIT!!!!
I pick Botanist for basically one reason: making sure all forageables take up less space. The fact that they sell for a lot more is just a bonus.
So I just found out that all those seeds I was making from foragables only give foraging XP. Talk about good times.
Winter can be somewhat profitable if you farm winter seeds, fiber seeds and trees, the tea saplings make a lot of money
9:15 poor dandelion 😔😔
Caroline and Lewis love green tea, and Harvey loves pickles (including pickled tea leaves).
4:14 on the four corners map a single stump respawns in the upper left quadrant like the Forrest farm
While still not amazing for profit, a fruit tree's produce increases in quality for each year that passes; from silver, to gold, to iridium. So you'll earn a bit more than what the video indicated.
Fruit tree quality also jumps straight to iridium after lightning hits it!
These are things that I never knew, I’ll be sure to mention it!
u could use the fiber seeds to save ur fertilizer over winter
7:39 SPING
There is also a regrowing hardwood stump in the four corners farm!
THIS INTRO IS INSANE!!!!!! WELL DONE!!!
