How to set the aspect ratio or image size of your Midjourney ai art images. Want to fit your images to the phone or desktop wallpaper, or perhaps for prints. There's an easy command to do that, the --ar x:y command, such as --ar 4:5 or --ar 16:9, or for cases where you don't know the ratio you can use --w and --h for the width and height.

Updated for Version 5 over here: ruclips.net/video/hDQiqAD-Xg0/видео.html
You are my new favorite professor 😀Very simplistic and straight to the point. I love these 30 second videos.
--version 4 is not currently compatible with custom resolutions
Yup, kinda annoying but understandable, fingers crossed it rolls out soon.
Very useful thank you 🧡
Thank you ! You have indeed gave me a solution to my - - issues. Finally midj gives me the desired ratio. FOLLOWED FOR SURE! Thanks professor! 🎉
Yay, glad it worked out for you!
went to your website shop. REALY ! like your art works. Talented man / partner
Thank you 😁
Thank you!
Thanks!
Love the tattoo - hahaha. Reminded me of Adam Savage from TV show Mythbusters who had a 6-inch rule tattooed on his arm.
Would love to hear your thoughts on the new --test and --testp modes, as well as --tile (which seems amazing for plotters!)
Gunna have to give them a spin and report back.
Thanks for sharing - Do you know if there's a way to create an image in the shape of a circle directly?
Great video
Thanks!
I just got an Exel doc named "Prompter" for midjourney from Shane McGeehan, and I its really interesting, like a prompter interface and can be helpfull for AI art begginer like me! Cheers from Brazil!
That sounds like a great idea, interesting to watch the ecosystem build up around it.
It would be nice to see physical examples...
Most of the paperback fiction covers printed in my lifetime and beyond have measured 6" x 9". It would be nice to get two copies of the same image in different aspect ratios for print and e-book editions. I'm working on a novel and I'm imagining a character who looks like she could step into the role of Rosemary Woodhouse in a remake because she's a future descendent of Mia Farrow who inherited her facial features in a sci-fi time travel story that begins with the protagonist striking up a conversation with a stranger on December 8, 2080 at about 10:30 pm at the corner of W. 72nd and Central Park West about the historical significance of where and when they happen to be at the moment.
Nice video, thanks. Is it two basses behind you?
Hah yeah, a daisy rock candy pink bass, because I find the thinner neck easier to play. And a silver bass I can use in case anyone tried to break into the studio, good and hefty!
thanks
You're welcome!
So if I want a graphic to fit a 11 x 16 I would put 4:5 ratio in midjourney then upscale it to 4800 x 6000 for example in another software? Maybe I am missing something?
I've made images with --ar 2:3, and the image size comes out as it should. The sides of my 'picture' are always cropped though. It's as if it were made square and then just had the sides chopped off. How do you do this while keeping the whole 'picture' within borders of the final image/file---like having a padding in a set amount of pixels around the inside of the final file size? Thanks to anyone who can answer this!
Hey hey, yeah, what you're seeing there is a side-effect of the Version 4 model, it doesn't do aspect ratios properly yet (they're working on it). Sometimes 3:2 and 2:3 are fine, but behind the scenes it's working with a square and cropping down, with a vague attempt at your ratio.
I'm afraid at this point we just have to wait until they update the aspect ratio.
Is anybody going to comment on how he filmed his arm while not having any free hands . Extremely impressive
I have a highly trained beard that can now operate the camera!
@@revdancatt lol
with the format everything is no longer, what can i do?
Do you have any videos/ thoughts about using multiple subjects in a midjourney prompt? Not having a ton of success with this
Sadly not yet. I've seen a bunch of YT videos about splitting up prompts and it looks fine in their videos, but as soon as I try it I have a similar experience to you. I'm not sure if they're cherry picking the results that worked to make videos.
I think in this case we just have to wait for MJ to get a little bit smarter. They seem to be going in the right direction.
@@revdancatt Appreciate the response! Have you tried to use the blend feature for this yet? I haven't yet but I was thinking of just generating one image for each subject and then trying to use the blend
Yeah, that could work. I tried the blend with a couple of images and it was _okay-ish_, it doesn't really seem to understand what's in them. When I tried more than three images it all went to mush. But again I'm sure there are some superstars out there who are really good at it.
Is it possible to do 1080x1920 resolution or 0.56:1 in Midjourney? Any perspective on this would be greatly appreciated.
Nearly, v4 has some native aspect ratios which it's best to work with (I'm not sure what v5 coming out soon will do).
The closest to 1080x1920 is the 4:7 aspect ratio `--ar 4:7` which is 0.57:1, so close. If you use that you can crop down to 0.56:1 and only loose a few pixels along the longest edge.
I have to do this before sending it to my digital frame! If I send it with cropping it's like "This is the right dimensions" and sulks, but if I crop it slightly first it's fine, lol.
@@revdancatt Thank you for responding with such a thorough answer.
WItch one should i use if i want to create the banner of a youtube channel?
Use 16:9 as the aspect radio `--ar 16:9` will get you pretty close, you'll need to scale it up a bit though.
@@revdancatt thanks a lot mate
Can I prompt 35x35px or 40x40px for pixel art icons?
Sadly not. But I've seen people ask for a whole "sprite sheet" of pixel art, or "tiny pixel art objects" in an empty space. To trick it into making small pixel icons that can been pulled out of the larger scene. Pixel isometric stuff it seems to handle really well.
@@revdancatt thank u so much! I want something like pixel badges 40x40, I'll try something
Don't get caught out by the autocorrect gotcha, it's the number one thing that trips people up, make sure your - - isn't getting turned into a -
Midjourney auto-detects it now! Not sure when that changed, but -- and - both work the same way for all parameters. So this is no longer an issue.
Phew, kinda wish I knew that before making the video now, lol! I'm glad they fixed it, there must have been so many "this doesn't work" messages that it was easier just to drop in the fix! 😁
I need 21:9 ratio. How to get it?
You'd type in, as an example...
/imagine the wide open ocean --ar 21:9 --v 3
Version 4 of Midjourney doesn't do anything other than 1:1 (as of the time of this comment), so adding --v 3 to the end will force it to use version three.
Replace "the wide open ocean" with your own prompt, obviously.
It looks like 5:2 is not supported at this time. Feb 2nd 2023. Can anyone else confirm? Great video and thank you!
Yeah, since they upgraded to v4 you can only do 1:1, 3:2 and 2:3, which is annoying. Although you can still drop down to version 3, which is good for something, but I love v4 too much.
I've taken to doing landscapes at 3:2 and then using Stable Diffusion to "outpaint" the sides to get them wider for things I really care about. Otherwise I bite the bullet and crop it down. Feels so bad throwing away all those pixels.
@@revdancatt Feels bad indeed. I hope they bring back those ARs soon. Thanks for the reply Dan.
Wait, I spoke too soon. They did a small update, so we can now go to 2:1 and then crop down from there, which is better than nothing.
@@revdancatt This is fantastic, do you just use PS for cropping down?
Yup, although you can use pretty much anything. I just happy to use it, because it's also part of my overall studio workflow.
but in V4 Midjourney that dont work.....?
Nope, well, not as well. It can still handle an aspect ration of 3:2 and 2:3. Although it's not always that great, it still wants to work in a square so the edges can be a bit dodgy.
If I want something wide, like a landscape I ask for --ar 3:2 and keep re-rolling until I get something good. If I want to extend it out a bit further I use Dall-E (openai.com/dall-e-2/) to do some "outpainting" to extend the canvas.
@@revdancatt thanks a lot
Good luck!
you know nothings
That was constructive, thanks for your input.
@@revdancatt it was constructive glad you concur. To know nothing is only a human trait, and a good one at that.
lol everytime you look at your arm for notes makes me giggle
