Deanna Durbin was a really big star star back in the day, but is mostly forgotten today. This is the first time I saw a Durbin movie in 50 years. They are rarely shown today.
Lots of her movies are on Blu ray and DVD available for purchase on websites like Amazon and Ebay, etc. I have been able to collect almost all of her movies that way.
wow. the lead actress Deanna was amazing. they don't mage good movies like this anymore. they replaced good acting with violence and special effects, i miss good entertainment. so many twists!
As noted in other comments, the correct title for this movie is For The Love of Mary. It was the last movie for Deanna Durbin before she retired from acting. According to IMDb Deanna really disliked her last three movies; she refused to watch them. In addition to this movie, the other two were, Up In Central Park and Something In The Wind.
I’ve got my eighteen year old cousin Kechette into Deanna Durbin and she really likes her because she loves old films and tv shows. I’ve given her some of Deanna’s movies like the Sweetheart Pack the Music And Romance collection 100 Men And A Girl Up In Central Park Christmas Holiday and Hers To Hold. She told me that It Started With Eve and Hers To Hold are her favorites
I was hoping it actually was Something in the Wind. My favorite part in there was Donald O'Connor singing I Love a Mystery. I haven't been able to find it anywhere else. My favorite movie of hers, though, was probably First Love. The Three Smart Girls trilogy is a close second.
@carolleenkelmann3829 I discovered Deanna on my own in 2006 when I had gone to the library looking for some good old movies to watch and the Sweetheart Pack collection popped up in front of my face I checked it out and me and my mom watched all the six movies included in it and we fell in love with it and became fans of her from that time on. My mom’s favorites were First Love and It Started With Eve. Something In The Wind and Can’t Help Singing became my favorites and years ahead I watched her other movies and I fell in love with them
Oh, my,😊 don't care: " giving my age, away" my aunt's & I saw this great movie when we were little girls , then my young aunt, all she did was trying to emulate Deana's singing , she made us laugh,, good memories.. these actors r superb Deana so pretty & oh my the men actors " so very good- looking , as usual from from that era,,keep it going , thank you!!😊
@DavidRice111 I’m forever a huge fan of Deanna I love her and I love her movies this is one of my favorite movies of hers. I have a poster of her on my bedroom wall
The great Hugo Haas as Gustav, I'm a big fan of the dozen or so strange semi sadomasochistic romantic melodramas he directed and acted in later, several starring Cleo Moore and another with Beverly Michaels, clearly he had a preferred "type" of blonde bombshell, and he casts himself as their victim most of the time.
Silversurfer971: My, Q-Man , thoughts exactly! SO REFRESHING! A movie like this I would gladly return to theater pay the ridiculous price to see and I finally understand “Figaro,’ song, Just magical!
Great movie 🎥 with Deanna durbin in it-a fine comedy-three guys compete for the same woman-good singing 🎶 by Deanna! -I. Can understand the confusion over the title of the movie-Donald O’Connor is not in it-something in the wind can be seen in another RUclips channel if you’re interested! (Retrospective-classic movies) -good flick! 😮😮😮😮😅😅
Funny, slightly silly, lovely music and songs, well cast and although I wasn't sure how they were going to end up, I knew really quickly which guy was going to get the girl. Altogether great entertainment. Thank you for uploading. 😊💖💖💖
I wonder if this movie was an inspiration for Cameron Diaz’s movie “There’s SomethingAbout Mary?” The attraction of Mary seems universal even in the invisible president’s character.
Look at THE TYPE OF PEOPLE who are 'actors and actresses' these days. We used to see performers. But now it's all a 'woke' festival with politically correct plots and sex scenes and rotten language..............and don't forget the 'handsome African-American' hero and his White wife/girlfriend, or their 'gay' friend. It's all garbage; THAT'S why we appreciate the older movies all the more.💣
For the Love of Mary 1948 💣 Something In the Wind 1948 (same movie) 💣 All For Mary 1955 💣 Who's in charge here? Anybody? Hello? Hello.................................... 💣
For the love of Mary is NOT the same film as Something in the wind, they have different scripts casts and directors, and they aren't both 1948, Something in the Wind is 47...the third film you cite is absolutely unrelated except for the Mary in the title, it's a UK film and doesn't feature Deanna Durbin.
@@brigidconroy2111 yes it's a nice little film but how does misinformation benefit anyone, I don't think it's deliberate clickbait but it is frustrating for folks expecting to see the film in the thumbnail... easily fixed by the uploader but the perverse incentives of the platform reward the uploader more for the quantity of the comments and like/dislike thumbs, even if they're more negative than positive.
Probably the best of the Deanna Durbin films I've seen: She's savvy and is allowed to sing outside of pure soprano, and baby Donald O'Connor gives a glimpse of what will show up in the "Make 'Em Laugh" segment of Singin' in the Rain. I wanted to punch the guy from Rope throughout, but what else is new?
Huh? Donald O'Connor was not in this movie. Have you seen Durbin in "Three Smart Girls?" It was her movie debut at age 16. Shje was one of the greatest voices of the 20th century and was offered a contract with the Metropolitan Opera but she turned it down. She retired at age 26
You need to get your title straight. The title says one thing but the movie says another. I have all of her movies plus the short she made with Judy garland. Love them all even the ones she disliked.
i was enjoying myself until Deanna started singing. i forgot about her voice. She has a lovely voice. ... it's just not what i ever want to hear. That might explain why i've seen so very few of her films.
I clicked on this because I saw Donald O'Connor was in it. But this is not the movie advertised....what gives? O'Connor, saved every picture he ever appeared in and the Superstars who got top billing just rode his coat tails....in my opinion.
I'll go along with that. And I'm not a great Deanna Durbin fan. Oh, she is a very capable singer, but this particular movie makes the character she's playing out to be a real snot.
Deanna Durbin in a romance with the sinister one from Rope (1948) after he kidnaps her. All done as a goofy comedy for Durbin to belch-out in. You can bet this was the typical safe formula to put the singing sweetheart in. No more chances after experimenting by putting her in a murder mystery like Lady on a Train (1945). Nope, none of that for this sweet girl. And I'm sure that bored her, but it was a formula that worked and had me chuckling.
This is NOT "Something In The Wind." This is "For The Love Of Mary" Granted, "Mary" is still a decent movie, but people looking for the titled movie are going to be disappointed.
I wish Deanna was alive right now so I could write her a fan letter to tell her how much I love her and her films and how there are fan clubs that love her and still are enjoying her films even to this day

your right, alice white also a big star back in the day, now its like she never existed

A very refreshing, romcom......awesomely made, actors very well versed in their trade....no nudity, no swearing, beautifully crafted movie. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
So true
Gotta be one of the funniest movies I have see in a while. Thank you.
I love watching black and white movies 🍿❤ TFS!

Cute. Funny. Wacky. Fun. Beautiful singing. Sweet.
Never was a big fan of Deanna's, but too bad this was her final movie- her rendition of Figaro was delightful, and this was a cute comedy.

I loved old movies like this it helps my mental health.since i was diagnosed with anxiety and disociative identity disorder.

Too bad they couldn't get President Truman to make a cameo appearance at the end lol.
Nice flick but WRONG description.....Title,cast,etc. Cmon now.....😢
