My grandparents would indeed enjoy you retaking their home city of Viipuri!
Greeting from the other objective city, Lappeenranta!
Remember when the Finns won the Continuation War because entire Soviet rifle regiments were wiped out by individual Lahti teams
Happy New Year everyone!!!
That Lahti squad was epic!
When the enemy aircraft attacks, they position themselves above the enemy ground units that are initiating battle. So the strategic AA only protects you if it also covers the frontline enemy.
Those VL DXXI planes are Dutch Fokker DXXI fighterplanes, sold to the Fins during the winter war (not many, like 7 of them) and later the Fins produced them themselves under License (they build like 90 of them according to wikipedia). All in all I as a Dutchman I find it remarkable that a Dutch design fighter aircraft was used to great effect by such a small airforce like the Finnish.
It’s a bit frustrating that the A.I keeps sending transports to be sniped in the same position over and over again. Good games though! Happy new year!
Finnish Maxim M/32-33 was a design modification from Aimo Lahti and it was a very advanced version of the original maxim. Same guy did design Suomi-smg and Lahti L-39 anti-tank rifle.
No matter how many times I see Vulcan make a Highway of Death, It always makes me chuckle. It takes me out of it though. There must not be anything in the scripting that checks casualties on per-area or pathfinding basis. Ho hum. Happy New Year!
Is it even remembering where units are located? If it does, it seems like a pretty simple concept for it to recognize the danger & re-route/disembark early. Considering how many "free" kills he's getting it seems ridiculous
@@Altair1243WAR Honestly, based on how it looks to operate, I would say it can't even manage that. It's a pretty poor AI.
@@sedghammer Yeah, that's pretty bad for a RTS game. Having finished the video, the amount of kills that one unit ended with is ridiculous, not to mention a 6:80 KDR
It's clearly very rudimentary & not flexible with how it chooses to reinforce. I think it literally only started deploying units in advance because the road was actually blocked from debris lol
AI using Zapp Brannigan tactics.
It's funny how the lack of snow bothered me and then I remember it's the beginning of July and there was no snow in the actual footage.
The correct Russian title for the tooltip would be «Карельский перешеек» or «Карельская операция», calling it «Карельский» is a bit like calling a hypothetical English Channel operation simply “English”. Sorry for the nitpicking, a thank you for great content)
That Kivaari attack... Sir, should we use our support artillery and mortars?
Fool! We will build fortified positions out of the bodies of the fallen! To glory brothers, CHARGE!
It was Raate Road all over again in the first engagement.
I have put air superiority at the main concentration of enemy forces at Vyborg and managed to take out almost all of their IL-2's in one turn when they brought them to support troops lol
i realized in this game best defence is offence. ai cant really do much when you attack them at the start of the game and keeping your mobility. edpecially if they have artillery.
So, if you dont use a reinforment, you can still use it for the "next" battle?
Play Iron Harvest!! i'm sure you'll love it
I’ve seen on other SD campaigns that the AA is bugged but only on the first turn.
I really do wish you would finish your ongoing campaigns before starting new ones
The Romanian campaign he is on will take another 20+ videos to finish as there is some much stuff to mop up.
Soviet battles can get boring. I personally find axis battles more interesting
@@pvtparts6879 Fair enough, but it would probably irk you some if he left an axis playthrough to start a soviet or something similar. It's not unreasonable to ask for a modicum of focus when creating content for a game, especially since it's going to take longer for both to be finished unless one is abandoned or you play 2x as much of the game
What I don't understand that the enemy could bring in the airforce because your attacked units were standing in the AA circle. Strange!
why do game companies keep doing that? I mean, I understand game balance is a thing, but in real life, nothing stopped a fighter from firing at a ground target. It's one thing when Advance Wars does it, that's a cartoon game with semi-cartoon physics, but this is supposed to be a historical game, but instead of making them less accurate in anti-ground roles, or making the biggest offenders cost more... why remove physical reality :(.
I think it might actually be changed again.
Was this patch 45508? I don't see in the notes where it says fighters can't strafe ground targets. The notes actually mention removing a bug that prevented ground attacks.
In real life troops couldn't call in a laser-guided IL-2 strike on seconds' notice either. Fighter planes are a lot more effective in this game at suppressing and damaging AT guns than they ever were in real life, where they mostly went after visible targets like moving vehicles and columns of infantry on the march, or executed preplanned strikes on known positions on the front line. The way you can call a personal bombing strike in this game to bail out infantry squads in a fight with some guys they just bumped into in the woods is not historical.
@@MrUnimport I'm pretty certain they had radio by this point & it was already a concept to integrate CAS into land offensives. IDK how on-point the Finnish were about this, but it's not THAT a-historical. Granted, the speed & accuracy of the strikes may be in question, but what you're describing is the difference between a unit being nerfed for no real reason vs units being functional
It doesn't really look like the game was designed around being able to call in a large number of craft just to handle these smaller skirmishes that pop up regularly
First comment game as strong as the Finnish Defense. Happy New Years to everyone, cheers!
Also that one Lahti team has to be related to Simo Häyhä
So what kind of dog do you have @ 37:55?
9:59 _The Highway of Death._
Happy new year
They gave Häyhä an AT rifle.
Keep em coming, perkele!
damn, vulcan didn't get to save the hero at rifle squad
You should really use the button that speed the movement on the grand strategic map.
Losing so many trucks must be a russian think.
Oh god the typos, Lappeenranta misspelled as "Lapeenranta" on the map, unit "Caracteristics" is missing an H, cringey finn voice acting...
