You know I’m going back and watching your older videos and I have to say the difference between now and 4 months ago (as in this video) is night and day. You have become more confident and your work has gone to the next level. I’m glad I stumbled across your channel sir.
You should've filed away the front number plate section as Matchbox did it completely wrong back when they designed and produced the casting. It's something I've always planned to do on one of these but I've either turned them into banger racing models or sold them on as I'm a diecast dealer lol. Another thing would be to paint the front and rear valance the same colour as the body
Great job! Looking at old photos, I did notice that the spoiler at the front below the bumper and the rear valance should be body colour. I’m old enough to remember when they were reps cars. Keep up the great work, I really look forward to your videos.
Nice job! The colour is pretty close to Oxford Blue (original Ford colour), it was popular on Fords here in Australia as well from '79-'82. My family had an Oxford Blue '80 Ford Falcon when I was a kid. Bonus fact: the '79-'81 Falcon was basically a slightly restyled Mk 2 Granada only we had the American inline 6 up to 4.1 litres (also available in Aussie Cortinas and Transits) and V8 engines in ours up to 5.8 litres, there were also extended wheelbase Fairlane and LTD models based on the same body style as well.
This video came up in my recommendations since I started watching Marty's channel. Superb restoration of the Cortina. I had one of these in a gold/brown colour.
A cortina was my first car it was a mk5 in blue pretty close to the colour you used it was a great car but a handful in the snow being rear wheel drive 👍👍👍
@@MatchboxGarage cool my RS2000 doesn't need a resto, but I'm in the middle of doing an '80's RS200 for my lad 👍 I used to have a green MK4 Cortina, but I think I swapped it for something cooler as a kid, I still have a MK2 Cortina that is in remarkable condition as it got left at a friend's house and was recently found d when clearing their house out after they died. Silver lining and all that 👍

Another great resto I had two Cortinas back when I was a lad and one was a corty 1.6L . Maybe an idea to do the under bumper bodywork in the body colour as its a custom , would look awesome for it.
Great thing is you can add to it with little problem now it has screws. So restos give endless possibilities, that's just great don't you agree ;-)@@MatchboxGarage
Ouch! Yes the Lesney factory was around 20 miles from my house so I am sat in a gold mine of Matchbox. But it's very difficult to get my hands on old Hotwheels.. Hence I stick to Matchbox
Ae86 Hachi .... good question. I would neutralize it perhaps with some white vinegar. As long as it’s neutralized it’s probably ok to wash down the sink drain. Depends on local laws of course...
Fantastic! Thank you both for getting back to me on this. I definitely want to give this a go and I can unclog my stubborn bathtub at the same time... Happy wife, happy life!
I enjoyed that vid m8, only thing I would suggest and please don't take it anything else but a suggestion is the rad grille would have been black plastic and the rear light lens would have had amber between the two red bars, the bumpers were chrome but had a black rubber finisher and the front underspoiler would have been same as the body colour as would the rear area under the bumper. Carousel and Crusader's were two tone and there was also a rareish two tone of that blue and silver think the scheme was called by Ford UK "Sapphire" before the Sierra was ever to bear that name lol Ford did try out some of the Crusader schemes on the MK2 Granny but they looked proper wrong 'uns.
This is one of the more memorable cars from my childhood collection. I always hated the fact that the tow hooks were always the wrong color (understand the reason why though) which usually lead me to remove them, and then regret it later when I had nothing to tow campers with. Great color choice for this customization though.
You did an excellent job on the repair I couldn't even tell it was even broken your idea of doing that is fantastic have you ever tried to Maya modeling paste Tamia modeling paste I am sorry that works really well good show

I had a nasty experience towing a caravan with my mk4 Cortina 1.6 GL ..... l,was following my dad we just got passed Shepton Mallet and I was trying to cat him up , the caravan started snaking and I made the biggest mistake of all and slammed the brakes on, the caravan took me sideways, slammed into a stone wall and took the whole side if it off .... l was the first time I ever towed a caravan needless to say my dad wasn't impressed. But l did go onto tow his next caravan , with my Toyota Celica .... oh and using an anti sway bar to stop the caravan from snaking ... Happy memories 😄
Yes they are Tis Best in Dicast. It was just passed Shepton Mallet on the Farrington Gurney road. Just past the Bath & West show entrance ..... l had to tow what remained of the caravan back to my Uncle and Aunty's house who lives in Shepton Mallet
I may have to try your stripping method. I was doing a no name matchbox size car, somebody must have touched up the paint, while regular stripper took off most of the paint, there's places that even several applications won't touch. With a Tonka I'm attempting to do, the regular stripper did not touch the paint at all. No bubble up, nothing.Took off the stickers, but that's about it. I wonder where I can find the lye?
'Tap it for a screw'. Have you ever considered marriage guidance as an alternative career?

I would have loved to have painted it Brown. Maybe if I get another one.

Great resto , brought back a few memories of my old Dagenham dustbin .

It was a T Reg 1979 Cortina aswell ☺it was also blue , but the lighter blue , but a mate of mine had the dark blue like this one top job 👍

I had a Matchbox Ford Cortina like this. It looked just like this. The same colour, etc.
Another fantastic job mate! Keep them coming.

Well bro, it has become a unique and original piece by changing the color. good video I already have some new ideas for my cars.

I've never used caustic soda when removing paint. I'm curious as to how you would dispose of it once finished? Forgive my ignorance.
Ae86 Hachi .... good question. I would neutralize it perhaps with some white vinegar. As long as it’s neutralized it’s probably ok to wash down the sink drain. Depends on local laws of course...
It's used here to unblock blocked drains. I dilute with water and simply pour down the bathroom sink.

Sanding or steel wool on the color layer, then again on the clear before polishing would help a lot.

Use a bigger jar for the caustic soda, then you won't have to worry about it boiling over.

Since this is not an as original restoration, why aren't you taking off the darn tow hitch? On most vehicles, they look silly.
In the UK, if you had a Corrina, you had a Caravan or Trailer. I think it's one of few cars that it suits
@@MatchboxGarage but you never find the trailers. They put the damn hitches on everything, even Porches but didn't put out many trailers.
