Riyoko needs these gals like Hiromi needs the Trio Project. Not putting them in the same class. But they are very good. How fortunately are we that some have all the talent... while the rest of us have so little.

I hope it wasn't in reference to Riyoko vs Hiromi because there are ways Riyoko is way more talented than Hiromi. It's all well documented on my Riyoko fan channel. Riyoko is currently touring her latest 'One Another Day' (2024) album with Saori (the drummer in this video), her best friend. They sound so great together because of their chemistry. Finally, this talent doesn't come for free, they pay for it in some other ways. Most very talented (gifted) artists battle some kind of inner demons. That talent is also nurtured and developed over decades, with lots of sacrifices.

But since you brought it up Riyoko's rhythm section aren't real contenders. Could it be that Riyokos loyalty to her best friend is holding her back? I'm sure that's not something you'd agree with. And yes, the gifted still need to work very hard to sculpt their talent. Can't just go to the crossroads and make deal with Mr D. Tried that myself. Sold my soul and got nothing for it. Ripped off again. Or maybe it just wasn't worth anything?
@larryk3408 Well, it shows that you haven't heard much of Riyoko, yet decided to write something on a decade old video with a rare line-up in the present day. My original comment was the fact that Riyoko still plays with her girlfriends, even if rarely in present day. I made hundreds of uploads of Riyoko's performances with all kinds of supporting cast as well as solo and that's just 5% of her live activities in the past 18 months - the rest is hidden behind Japan's closed veil and we will never get to see. But Riyoko's official recording and album touring trio since late 2022 features Japan's premier rhythm section: Yosuke Inoue on bass and Hiroyuki Noritake of legendary T-SQUARE on drums, and together they recorded 4 albums in the past 24 months. In fact for the 2nd album of 2023 'Midnight in Blue', Riyoko won a jazz award in Japan.

Love it! Riyoko became a big-time star now but these 3 gals still play together at least once a year in October for music week.
