  • In this video, I talk about 5 tips you need to know before visiting the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. These aren’t tips on what specific artwork to see, but more practical tips on making your overall experience there more enjoyable.
Just a small note about backpacks. I contacted the Rijksmuseum about this, and they advise that any backpacks are checked into the cloak room. Alternatively there are of course the lockers as well.
Thank you for watching this video.

    ABOUT ME
Hello there! My name is Daniella Perera and I’m an artist and vlogger based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I grew up in Hong Kong and the UK, and I’m of mixed heritage including Chinese, Sri-Lankan, Dutch and Portuguese.
Near the end of 2020, I moved from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam with my husband. I have since fallen in love with this city, and I make RUclips videos (every other weekend) about things to do in Amsterdam and tips to settle in faster. The idea behind 'Pocket Lighthouse' was to shine a light on the above topics, and for this information to be accessible on the go.
One of my long-term goals is to use my creativity (whether that be through art or video) to regularly support organisations helping strays and shelter dogs. Needless to say I absolutely adore dogs.

Hi everyone! 😀Do you have a favourite museum in Amsterdam or the Netherlands that you'd recommend?

Hope you have got your museumjaarkaart, it will provide you with access to 400 museums in the Netherlands. On top of that you have access to various other museums at a rebate on your ticket price.

I would like to recommend the Frans Hals museum,
While Frans Hals is too much undervalued.
He is innovative for his time and actually he is one of the very great of northern baroque painters.
      He is incredebly good !!

Nice museum, I’d recommend going around 9-10 am to avoid the crowds. It’s easy to navigate with the map they have there. I enjoyed reading about the art and I’d recommend minimizing time on your phone. So many ppl on vacation spend it looking at a screen and not what’s around them

Great tips! And to add to that, its a smart to bring your own food & drinks as well. The cafe isn’t that big, so waiting for some space can be an issue.

I’ve lived in Rotterdam for all my life (one hour away from Amsterdam), but I never knew this.
You even managed to film for us.
I never even went to the Rijksmuseum.
And it all looks and sounds really interesting from your video.
How weird huh 😄 You have enticed a local like me to visit her country’s sights.
I suppose a lot of people are still tourists in their own country, if that makes any sense.

Excellent introductory video, Daniella. I’m so glad to have come across this video. The museum looks absolutely beautiful.
How long does one usually spend there? We’ll be in Amsterdam about 2 1/2 days before cruising out of Rotterdam, and also want to take in the Van Gogh and Rembrandt museums. 49 days away!

Hi Brad, thank you so much for your kind feedback on this video. There is a lot to see at the Rijks and you could easily spend 4-5 hours in there. It really depends on the person though. Personally I prefer to spend about 2-3 hours focusing on specific areas of the museum otherwise it gets too tiring! Hope you have a lovely trip visiting the Netherlands.

    Hi Daniella,
I’m planning to visit this museum this weekend and watching this video, it got me wonder about something. You mentioned the cloak room/locker in the video, is it a must to leave the personal belongings before browsing the museum?

    • @pocketlighthouse
      @pocketlighthouse  Год назад +1

Hi there. When I made this video, I contacted the Rijksmuseum about backpacks, and they advised that any backpacks are checked into the cloak room/lockers. I don't know if you'd actually be stopped from entering with a backpack, but it's a much nicer experience walking around without one. I'd definitely advise bringing a smaller bag if you'd like to keep your valuables on you.
