Why is it anxiety inducing to be confused? It's ok to be confused, just ask someone for clarification. No one's life is on the line here...
Thanks for your comment. That's right no one's life is on the line here.
Hi everyone! Are you curious about some of IKEA’s latest products for 2025? I hope you find this video helpful and thanks for watching!
So i can use my debit card to tap in and tap out on the trams? It wont be an issue? Where do i tap in and out on tram?
You should be able to use your debit card provided it has the contactless payment function. If you'd like to read more about it, check out the OV Pay website to see the types of cards accepted. On the tram you'll see machines near the doors.
Hi, I just want to know what happens when your ov chipkaart is not charged enough for the trip you have made
Thanks for your comment here. Do you mean if you don't have enough money on your card before travelling, or you were undercharged for your trip. I believe you need to have a minimum of €20 on your card before travelling, otherwise you can't tap in properly. I'm not 100% sure though, so would advise contacting NS etc directly on this. I hope it all works out
Nice video. A few points: For OVPay there's an base rate of 1,12 and a kilometer charge of 0,207. If somebody knows their plans then they can work out which is cheaper. I'd guess the breakeven point is somewhere around 4 or 5 shortish trips. For OVPay it adds up all your travel in a day and makes a single charge per day. So if somebody's bank charges fees then it won't be charged every transaction, but just once per day. A travel card offers some protection for tourists I should think against forgetting to check in and out. They're unlikely to be considered trying to skip a fare if they have one and they won't get automatically charged the 4 euro fee if they don't checkout. However, OVPay supports more transport providers which would be necessary if they want to visit some other places in The Netherlands.
Great thanks for sharing!
Olá, bom dia! Can I use the GVB Travel Card to get from the Airport to The city center or do I need a separate ticket for the train?
I'm going to Amsterdam on the 29th for a week and I'm not sure what tickets to buy to get to my hotel...
Olá! Thanks for your comment and in a nutshell you can't use the GVB card on the train. I've made a video on this exact topic which I hope helps you. Have a great trip! Here's the link ruclips.net/video/tESI9hHw30s/видео.htmlsi=5OvHLwdvWy1YFZ_s
@@pocketlighthouse Thanks for your help, I saw your video and it helped a lot! From what I see my best option is to take the train (Sprinter) to Amsterdam Centraal and get on the metro to my hotel location, seems like the most budget friendly option. Can I use contactless on all the transports?
@@MiguelCorreiaFX That's great, I'm glad that video was helpful. I'm not sure about contactless on all forms of transport in the Netherlands, but certainly for central Amsterdam you can!
Reply from me as a local: You can use contactless payment with your debit/creditcard, ApplePay etc in all forms of public transport in the entire Netherlands (train, bus, metro, tram) so including all airports, stations, cities as well as the countryside.
Hi all! I'm answering a question I've been asked a few times now on RUclips and that is - 'Is it possible to buy the GVB Travel Card at Schiphol Airport?' I hope this video helps you. Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for the informative video. We just splurged on Premium Comfort for a trip between Las Vegas and Amsterdam in May. We usually go the cheapest way but we're getting too old to be squshed into those tiny seats for 10 hours! You didn't happen to notice if the last row in Premium Comfort had a wall right behind it that would prevent it from reclining, did you?
Thank you so much for your comment, and I hope you have a lovely trip in Amsterdam. That's a great question about the wall in the last row, and I'm afraid I didn't notice whether they had issues reclining. Would seem unfair if they did though.
I'm happy in poverty class. Gets there at the same time as the rest of the plane. 😊 Have a stroopwafel for me.
Thanks for your comment :)
Great advice thank you. What a gorgeous face and English accent. May you prosper! From Ireland via Amsterdam.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment :)
When in and out should scan the barcode right?
I’ve not used the barcode before but I would assume you need to tap in and out with it every time.
Edam. I am in the the USA and want to find out more about Edam.
I’m not an expert on Edam cheese, but if you fancy seeing a video about visiting Edam I have one on my channel if that’s helpful.
Hi , lovely video ! Very useful ! Also if we buy 4 day ticket from our phone app, than how can we tap when we travel? Thanks
Hi there. Glad the video is useful. I believe you get some kind of QR/barcode which you can scan. Sometimes it's a little tricky though, so if you have chance to get a paper ticket, I'd recommend doing that.
Hey, I just visited your RUclips channel. Your channel videos are really nice and you are an amazing creator. I found many problems with your channel. Due to which the viewers and subscribers of your channel are not increasing in any way and The videos are not going in front of Viers. Your channel's main problem is - "SEO"! Besides, there are several other issues that cause your videos to not reach the right audience. I am a digital marketer. If you want, I can solve your problems and help you. If I help you, your videos will go to the top rank of RUclips and the views and subscribers will increase. If you are interested?

We will probably "gourmetten", like most Dutch people do with Christmas. I am not a fan of it but my husband and children love it, so I'm usually overruled
Hi Maria, thank you for sharing this :) I haven't tried that yet! Hope you have a lovely celebration in any case!
Hi Pocket, very good suggestons for Christmas Gift. If I may to make suggestion for realy Britsh or American gifts go to Kelly Expat shopping in de Kinkerstraat, they have a wild selection of typical X-mas gifts, just a tip hope you like it! 👍👍

Really good and helpful video ❤

I’ll definitely try the KLM Premium Economy on my next long haul flight. I use British Airways Premium Economy & it sounds similar & it definitely sucks to have to use the economy toilets.
Thank you Monica for your comment here. Interesting to hear British Airways Premium Economy is similar.
you are only speaking to my left ear?!
My apologies for that, that is my bad. When I made this video I was switching to a new editing software. It was really hard to use it at first, so I unfortunately missed this adjustment.
The day I spent in Amsterdam I bought one of those day passes with unlimited public transport use, so when I left and I started having to use my ov chipkaart I didn't know I had to scan on the way going out xD
Thanks for your comment. Yes you're absolutely right, it's a must to tap in and tap out for every journey.
@@pocketlighthouse Thanks. That was one expensive short bus ride I took the first time.
Hello. I will visit Amsterdam for 5 days. I will do Volendam-Edam for 1 day. I will go to Roermord outlet for 1 day. I will be in Amsterdam for 3 days. I also want to visit the museums. I am very confused about transportation. What can I do?
Hi there. As a starting point, I would work out how you plan to travel to each of these places using something like Google Maps or the app 9292. Then compare the cost of all those individual journeys with one of the applicable tickets mentioned in this video.
Hi hello! I will be staying at zandvort an zee for 3 nights but I will be spending all my days in Amsterdam : do you think the best option is to take a Amsterdam region travel ticket since I’ll be taking the train once in the morning and once in the evening to go back to the Airbnb ? Or should I just pay with my credit card each time I enter the train?? What is possible ? Thank you for your help
Hi there, thank you for your comment. You can use the NS website to work out the cost of your journey. So I would weigh up what's easier and cheaper. Yes, for your credit card - that'd be using the OV pay function. In theory you could do this, but my preference would always be to minimise transactions especially when I'm abroad. I would opt for just buying 1 ticket provided the cost was reasonable.
What would be the most affordable option for one spending 3 months in Amsterdam, where I’d be travelling to and from work daily with possible evening outings(probably not every evening)
My guess would be the OV anonymous chipcard, but it might also depend on how you've travelling GVB or train? Best ask someone at GVB or NS.
Good information! Thanks! 👍
Thank you Jack, I'm glad it was helpful :)
Hi everyone 😀 I hope you find this video useful. Have you visited this exhibition already? What are your thoughts on Impressionism? 🖌
Tnx ❤
You're welcome!
do they run 24 hours ?
great question! Off the top of my head I don't think the trams and metro run 24 hours, but I do believe there are night buses. It would be best to get in touch with GVB to check the latest info.
Hello, Thank you for such an informative video but i just have two question I have booked a hotel in the zaandam region and if I have to travel to the city centre do I need an Amsterdam region ticket?? Also if I purchase a 48 hour region ticket on Saturday at 10 AM and I have to board train to the airport at 5 AM on Monday morning,Would my region ticket be valid or not as it is not yet 48 hours?
Hi there. If you're staying in Zaandam, you could buy this ticket but you could also buy separate train tickets/GVB tickets. It really depends on where you're travelling to plus frequency. So I would compare the costs and weigh up what's best for you. In terms of exact timing and validity of the 48 hr region ticket for your situation, I don't know for certain so it would be best to ask at the shop.

Thank you for being straightforward.
Glad it was helpful!
What is if I have a ticket on my phone for GVB (with a qr code), a day ticket?
On the tram, I've seen people scanning their QR codes using the same machine you tap in and out on.
The music wasn’t loud enough
ok thanks for the feedback
can you discuss the lack of public toilet esp for women in Amsterdam, thanks!
thanks for the suggestion
How were the headphones? Travelling PC soon and wondering if I need to bring mine. Thank you for the review!
They looked solid, but I didn't use them in the end.
Flew from Amsterdam to JFK and when the people in front of you put their seats back/ recline you have to be a contortionist to get out of your seat. It is absurd.
@@RayFranco-c2m thanks for sharing
Thanks for this detailed review! I usually do business at least one way (if I get it at a sensible price, ie not £5k 😂) but I’m trying this class in November. Looking forward to it now…the price seemed fair. I hate flying, so anything extra helps.
Thanks for your comment.Totally agree every little helps!
I plan to buy the 24-hour for metro, tram, and bus when I visit. Thanks!
Awesome!
Very nice! loved the editing and the angles too!
Oh thanks very much! :)
Everything you say in this video is reasonable and may well be true. And even so, the data is unequivocal that, while riding with a helmet does not decrease your risk of being in an accident or being injured in that accident, it absolutely does change the *type* of injury you are likely to get (more neck, fewer head/traumatic brain) and it *greatly* reduces the severity of any head injury you do sustain. The Dutch ministry is fully aware of this and is, with sensitivity to the Dutch cultural sense of 'freedom', slowly working to shift public perception and adoption of helmet usage. Arguably, if your health care is taxpayer funded, you do not have unfettered rights to make any health-implicated decisions you want, and it is reaonable to assert that there is at least some public interest to be balanced against your public-facing behaviors. Helmet laws are today's seat belt laws, nobody bats an eye at buckling up in a car now but that wasn't always the case, and the pushback then, as now, was emotional and flew in the face of what is now considered incontrovertible facts and, in the big picture, an intrusion so minor as to be unconscious and automatic when adopted. Give it 30 years, there won't be any semblence of a discussion around this. Personally, my vanity hates helmets, but I can fluff up my hair, meanwhile I only get one brain and life is brutally random. Be well everyone.
Except that wearing a helmets increases the total amount of accidents and worse accidents. It's a well observed effect of false security and risk behaviour
@@group555_ That is an absolutely, unequivocally false conclusion driven by bad data science. The "total number of accidents" is not meaningful, because "more helmet use" generally correlates with "more rides taken" which generally correlates with "more accidents". It's the *rate* of accidents that matters, and the accident rate is not statistically influenced by helmet use.
@@group555_ Oh dear, no, this is bad info stemming from bad data science arising from poorly designed case-control studies rife with interpretive and analytical errors. The protective effects of helmets on the human brain and skull are overwhelmingly clear and not in dispute, and in the few rigorously-defined analyses out there of the global data, the benefit in reduction of unrecoverable brain injuries is crystal clear across cultures and age groups. The same arguments were made against seat belts back in the day, and reason won in the end. By all means, ride without a helmet if you wish, it's your brain. If you're ever unfortunate enough to be in an accident where your head hits something at 10 mph, I wish you all the best in your possible recovery.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this

Which hotels has shuttle to aiport?
Great question! Unfortunately I don't have a full uptodate list for that.
Why Europes largest? Here in Lower Saxony we have a flea market with over 2000 exhibitors instead of just 750 in Amsterdam and it's length is over 10km!
That does sound v big! This is what IJ-Hallen say on their website.
@@pocketlighthouse Well idk why they say that. The one I'm talking about is the biggest I know. It is in Elisabethfehn every year.
I was planning on getting the 1 day GVB pass but it looks like I’ll also need to get a train ticket to get out of the airport and into the city is that right? Or is there a way for me to use the GVB ticket from the airport?
Hi Jessica. That's right, the GVB ticket doesn't include the train. I don't know the answer off the top of my head. You could check something like Google maps to see if there's a route using the GVB network, but it will take longer to get into Centraal that way.
Thanks 🎉keep the good job up the be roll is wonderful for explaining
Thank you for the positive comment here!
145 euro p.p. difference campared to economy ?? For all this extra s...? DEAL !!
Agreed :)
Is OV pay cheapper??
OV Pay is based on the distance travelled, and is the standard amount you'd pay to travel. This video deals with the different types of tickets you can make use of if you e.g. want to include museums, plan to travel a lot in Amsterdam/outside Amsterdam etc.
