How to Massage the Hand: Therapeutic Techniques

- Hand massage is one of the best tools you can have in your tool box as massage therapist. When you are limited in time or are working with special needs clients or clients that have Alzheimer's, you might just have time only to do the hands. I learned in school 32 years ago that if you only have 15 minutes to do a massage, the neck & shoulders would be a priority and second to that it would be the hands! You can include the scrub if time is allowed or just do the hand massage by itself. Including the scrub is a real treat. Enjoy!

I really appreciate your compliment! You have to attend a school for a 500 hour program. There’s a requirement in person to do internship so unfortunately you can’t receive a certificate through watching the videos. All states require internship.

Thank you for your feedback. I filmed this video during lockdown so I was doing everything. I was the director, camera guy, editor & actor so as you can see I’m not very good at it 🤣😂🤣. I tried my best. I hope to get back to getting my team back so we can give you quality videos.

I will try some of your techniques with my next. massage.. One of my clients has like a hardened lump on palm of the hand. was wondering what that could be
It sounds like a ganglion cyst. I mention it on the Pathology for the skeletal system part 1 video. Thanks for the question & comment
@@MassageTherapeutics915 This lump is on the palm itself and is quite hard similar to scar tissue. I did some research and found Dupuytrend’s Contracture. I told my client to get it checked by a professional.. I researched because I wanted to know if massage therapy would aggravate it.

Question: is the clients palm getting deformed like the scar tissue contracture? Just curious if it’s changing the structure of her hand. Maybe you can do some stretching of the palmar aponeurosis. I’m sorry I thought I had included it here. The ratio is 2 to 1 whether you’re using sugar or sea salt. 1 cup sugar (or salt) to every 1/2 cup of coconut oil. (Softened but not melted). I add 10 drops of essential oil. Food coloring is optional. That just makes it look pretty! You can also use brown sugar. I really like it! And so do my clients

What lotion is best to use for hand massages?
Anything that’s a massage lotion or oil. Home use lotions dry up & don’t glide as well. Even coconut oil is good.
