If you think a single religion is an impressive amount of world building for an indie game, I invite you to look into the absurdly complex world of dwarf fortress.
Are we sure that Yoba is the *only* religion in tardew Valley's world, though? It's the only one depicted, but there are other nations (such as the Gotoro Empire, which is the enemy nation in the war that Kent was fighting in), and maybe their culture (and religion) is very different.
I can very easily see Eastern versions of Junimos and Shinto based nature worship. Holy trees, divine wood for tools, and particular animals treated as sacred messengers.
Excellent video! My personal theory is that Yoba is specifically a sun god, or maybe even a personification of the sun itself. There are a number of things that point this. Obviously yellow/gold, the color most associated with Yoba, is also the same color most associated with sunlight. Less obvious is that the Book of Yoba refers to Yoba as "golden light," and in the creation story, that light is presumably what allows the seed to sprout, reinforcing the idea that it's meant to be sunlight. Plus, the Yoba Shirt is created by tailoring Solar Essence. My favorite point of evidence is that plaque you mentioned at the forge on Ginger Island. The forge and that plaque are remnants of an ancient dwarven civilization, but the dwarves we meet in-game never mention Yoba at all, so it's curious that the symbol would appear on the plaque. Notably though, a book in the museum called "Mysteries of the Dwarves" posits that an advanced alien civilization that eventually became the dwarves crash landed on the planet and was driven underground because they "simply could not survive in our sunlight." Not only does this suggest that the Yoba symbol on that plaque could be the ancient dwarves depicting the sun that drove them underground, but it could also imply that Yoba is not seen as a benevolent god by everyone since the ancient dwarves would have seen it as a threat to their survival. Them disliking Yoba could even have been a contributing factor in the war between dwarves and shadow people, since the shadow people apparently do worship Yoba if Krobus is any indication. Food for thought, anyway. Thanks for awakening my theorycrafting brain, haha. I love this stuff!

So the religion in Stardew Valley is built around player convenience, much like the religion for most D&D games. In that, I mean that in D&D games, the gods tend to be built around cleric subclasses whereas in Stardew Valley, the featured god was built around farming (or general earth and fertility worship)

He visits the altar, but does say: "I've never been religious, but hey, I'm old". Although, if you marry Alex as a male, he does say it's unnatural, implying he might have an idea of what sin is. My guess is he's agnostic. (believing in Yoba, but not necessarily worshipping or following him) Robin and Demetrius I think just say "thank Yoba" similar to how atheists say "oh my god". I think Emily, as much as I love her, is one of those obnoxious religious nutjobs that would try to convert everyone. She says "may Yoba bless you" to her partner when married, talks about positive and negative energy almost constantly, and when taken to a movie she dislikes, says: "Yoba, please protect me from the dark energy of this movie." Jodi is, but I think it's less for worship and more out of fear - I think she prays to Yoba strictly for Kent's safety. Lewis and grandpa I think are, cause of the vessels in their home. And I think player is or isn't, depending on how you play the game. Side note; comparing it to Christianity, if Yoba is God, then I like to think that the Junimos are Yoba's little angels :]
Also to mention, Krobus is also religious although I'm not sure if it's something he believes in particular or a common thing among hos race, but he will not speak in Friday because of a vow similarly on how Christian won't eat meat on a particular day

The "sign of the vessel" 8:38 is a thing you can put on your fishing pond, but it doesn't show up automatically. You can see it in your screenshot! 8:23 , i believe it's the thing that displays what kind of fish is there. So you didn't get that very wrong at all lol ! I see junimos as some sort of Paracelsian gnome - an angel near the bottom of the ladder of divinity. It follows, obviously, that completing the bundles grants them an immortal soul and allows them to return home. Obviously. Concernedape is actually very well versed in esotericism.

Family shrines are a thing in several religions. That land, being granted to you by your Grandfather reeks of Family Heirloom. He isn't necessarily buried there, but it has been years since his passing and leaving you the unopened note, so it isn't out of the question he could be entombed there and the place grew up after. To me, it doesn't look like a grave, but a shrine to worship your ancestors. Hence, why he shows up there to pass judgement on your progress. There are a lot of parallels with different Pagan variants, especially the ones we're most familiar with in the West. Yoba strikes me as a unique blend of several unique real-world religions, spanning multiple cultures. The golden Arc in their church is reminiscent of depictions of The Arc of the Covenant in design. I always thought the Junimos were just sentient apples or something like that. Forest Sprites. Like out of a Ghibli movie. They help you in exchange for your assistance with their bundles. I'm not sure what they need them for, but they must use them for something. It isn't all stuff you would need for those rooms to be repaired, despite being themed appropriately.

Paganism isn’t so much a religion as a religious category. The type of Paganism you’re describing is sometimes called “Earth-Based Religion” which is even more obviously a category. I get the impression that the player has the *option* of playing their character as religious, rather than that they necessarily are inclined to active practice by default. The difference, perhaps, between someone who is devout and someone who is having unexpected mystical experiences. Unless you side with Joja over Yoba, you’re going to have the mystical experiences regardless of whether you choose to put up shrine symbols, or attend the temple on Sundays.

I'd argue that whether the player character is religious or not is a player choice. You can choose negative dialogue options too: that doesn't mean the player is canonically an asshole.

I think that the Yoba having both Christian and pagan elements is no accident: syncretism is when religions adopt or blend beliefs from each other. For example, in its early days and during its global expansion, Christianity adopted many pagan beliefs and this made it easier for outsiders to convert.

As someone who's been making vids for 10 years now, you'll get over it. Trust me, you're way more critical of your voice than anyone else. When you look in the mirror what do you think? That's me, right? When people see you in the street, they don't think that, you're just another person. Sometimes, insignificance is a good thing. Same holds for your voice. Work with it. Settle with it. Everyone who edits their vids has to listen to hours upon hours if their voice. Sometimes I listen to a take I did, and just repeat that in a mocking voice. Don't worry too much, you'll be fine
The PLAYER is objectively NOT religious... it is something the player CAN be if choices are made by the player to be so... but the player doesn't HAVE to be religious just because grandpa and some parts of the town are.
Youre Painting paganism with a broad brush. Paganism isnt a religion. Its a general catch all for usually euopean prechristian practices. This includes norse, celtic, baltic, slavic, hellenic, and germanic beliefs and they all have very different practices in terms of belief and not all pagans think of nature in the way you described. Good vi otherwise but just felt it was a bit reductive of paganism

Youre Painting paganism with a broad brush. Paganism isnt a religion. Its a general catch all for usually euopean prechristian practices. This includes norse, celtic, baltic, slavic, hellenic, and germanic beliefs and they all have very different practices in terms of belief and not all pagans think of nature in the way you described.
