    "It's not a real car."
Looks real to me-real fast, and a real head-turner. Genuine Shelby Cobra? No. Does it capture the spirit of the Shelby Cobra? Definitely.

jealous people make those degrading comments, the bottom line here is - it is a real car that you can have the satisfaction of building yourself and actually afford to own and drive. As far as pros it will make your face hurt from smiling, the cons are - you build the car, so your skills will determine the final cost and finish of it. in other words if you want it looking immaculate you might have to pass off some of the work to professionals, increasing the cost. Factory 5 is number one for a reason, they put a lot of effort to insure the customer gets something they can build, use and be proud of for years to come. Not every car lover is a snob, there are many out there that still know the feeling of sheer exhilaration and beauty.

I didn’t make those comments to sound snobby I am not a snob very far from I love this car honestly it is the best driving car that I’ve ever driven and if I could take it home with me I totally would and I don’t care if it’s factory five or if it was built by Shelby =)
I have never driven a 427 version of this car which is even the sound of it just terrifies me because even with the coyote engine it’s almost like driving a wheelchair with a V-8 attached to it it’s insane in the best ways and just like you said you’re smiling ear to ear face actually hurts from smiling so much because of the exhilaration that this car gives

This was a bucket list thing for me last year this car drives a lot like the Viper like you know right when it’s about to bite you.. The people that drive them aggressively take them pass their limit before the car can tell them that they’re at their limit but they communicate with you for you to lose control of one you have to be going balls to the walls not being reverent about the machine I didn’t drive it like I stole it because it was in my car and it never stepped out on me. But I could feel that it could in a very instant step out on you.. can’t text and drive that car

Sorry for the second comment, but according to my own personal experience and the experience of over 100 of my Cobra buddies, over the last 20 years I can say that most people DO NOT look down upon you at car shows for not having a real one. In fact, these cars get more attention than $250,000 Lamborghini's and Ferrari's. P.S. - I own both a Factory Five and a Superformance. I get a lot more respect with the Factory Five because I built it myself - even though the Superformance is endorsed by Shelby American, has a CSX number in the registry, and costs four times as much.

Awesome, honestly it wouldn’t matter to me I absolutely love that car I don’t care if it’s real or not I guess it’s to the point just like a pur sag Bugatti type 35 or a Alfa monza Those cars are next level for me. Which one do you like better do you like factory five or the super performance. There is only one thing that I would change about that car and that would be the pedal box I would try to make it wider so that foot could fit in the hole better. My foot getting stuck underneath the brake pedal

Don’t bother with this guy Brad, he literally was reading the Wikipedia article for this car, almost word for word. He doesn’t actually do true research, otherwise he’d know that Carroll Shelby sometimes put 428s and 427 Center Oilers in the Cobras since they were cheaper over the proper Side Oiler.
He went as deep as Wikipedia for research and that’s it.

Due to a change in the laws, these can't be registered in California(which would have been a major market).
There have been Cobra kit cars available for decades, mostly of fiberglass.
When Caroll Shelby decided to use the extra chassis numbers he legitimately had for the 1965 427 Cobras and start building the continuation Cobras, the race was on again. He had a couple of guys buy an old factory in Poland and started building aluminum bodies, as the originals were. The main difference was they were symmetrical. The original Cobras were not and you couldn't swap body parts with other Cobras.
Caroll Shelby then went searching for any 427 side-oiler and top-loader 4-speed he could find. From what I was told this is where the aluminum 427 came from.
If you look at the real Cobras, you will notice that they used Ford Mustang Shifters and mounted them backwards. The reason was, as you probably found out, the shifter was in a more convenient position. I've seen this type of shifter used on many other kit car Cobras.
Here is an idea. Ever heard of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas NV? It is a show you might consider attending. It will be November 1-4. You could go as a journalist or maybe through your employer. It is basically for companies which sell parts and accessories plus, many of the attendee's are in the automotive field. Another option would be if you could get sponsored by a manufacturer that you might know. They would probably pay you to be there. As many subscribers as you have, there are those, like me, who wouldn't mind meeting you. There are always celebrities there, hired by manufacturing companies and/or just enjoying the show. Lot's of gorgeous female models that have posters of themselves they'd love to sign for you. Oh, as another bonus, you can walk away with a lifetime supply of great bags with a company's logo on them. And, guaranteed, you with see REAL Cobras there. You might also arrange a tour of the Shelby factory there and their display of historic cars. As a bonus, you will have the opportunity to make a month's worth of RUclips videos. Here is a link to the SEMA home page:

There are actually more Factory Fives in California than any other state in the Union and the numbers are still growing. They are registered as a Specially Constructed Vehicle (SPCNS) and in most cases are legally registered as a year 1965. They are smog-exempt for life, and qualify for classic car insurance.

the challenge with building one, you will lose money. I have a kit in my cart at factory 5s website, total price before shipping is $39k....and that does not include engine/trans/paint. If I choose a blueprint engine/trans combo ($25k) and have it custom painted ($15k) ill be in it for almost $80k, and its only worth $50k-$60k when complete. IMHO, factory 5 needs to to rethink their pricing strategy.

    • @What.its.like.

Yeah it's better to just buy one completed and then you don't have the headache of building the car plus sourcing the engine plus getting the engine dialed in

I honestly think that I could build a car like that for less than 10 grand the most expensive part is going to be finding somebody to build me a body The drive train I want to put in it there’s nothing spectacular but I want to put a two speed rear ended it and just show you that you don’t have to have a big monster V8 to win races a six cylinder will do just fine

I saw a cord 810 replica that looks spot on from the outside you could not tell from the outside that it was a replica the only time that you could tell was whenever you got inside interior completely different
This was a bucket list thing for me to do to drive. This car and I was a bit nervous because they just built this car. It had 51 miles on it when I drove it I were size 12 shoe I couldn’t drive it. That great. The car will do 90 miles an hour plus in second gear and when you start getting up to that speed in second gear, it gets a bit Squirrley lol get over height the pedalbox was that is the only major issue with that car. Everything was great. The shifter was great. The brakes were great the accelerator pedal great they’re just isn’t enough space if you’re a bigger dude…pedalbox is small like a European car, which makes sense because this is technically a European car

And because of that, he gets some facts wrong.
Carroll also sold some 427s with a 428 V8 as well as a 427 Center Oiler (not Side Oiler although that’s the proper engine) as it was cheaper and the 50hp difference wouldn’t be noticeable by a normal driver, but if he was called out about it, he did put in the proper 427 Side-Oiler.
