Awesome. Nate. I love Neil Young. I tried to learn some of his stuff on guitar until I found out I was terrible at guitar, so I switched to piano. Easier for me. Love your tutorials. I spend all my free time with you.
I came to say the same thing! Tried many times to learn on guitar and just wasn't working for me, skills didn't match up. Started learning piano and was like woah this is way easier and more fun for me!
Way to go, such a clear and helpful tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to point out the nuanced parts-and then walking us through them. You are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for explaining the timing. I'm only five minutes into this tutorial but I can already tell that you are going to do an amazing, and thorough job at explaining things. I have only seen one other youtuber who explains in as much detail as you do in their tutorials. The only problem is all his tutorials are in Spanish. Lol
I'm telling you, Nate is the best! I discovered his videos a year or so ago and have learned so much from him! That is why, when I can, I support his channel by sending a little "tip" via PayPal, so he can continue doing this. Just wanted to put that suggestion in your ear because I don't know how many people actually do that and Nate never mentions it in his videos. I know he has been appreciative when I have. 😊

I'm so glad! Neil's discography in the 80's was pretty spotty and many people stopped paying attention (so I hear). But he had this one record in the early 90's that was as good as his early stuff. His record label knew it, too, and promoted it accordingly 😂
Nate, once again I would like to thank you for such a great lesson. My husband plays this on the guitar (really good guitar player) and we both just love this song. I am new to piano playing and going to try this song out. You make everything look so easy and explain the playing of chords so well. This might be just a bit hard for me right now but going to give it a try! Wish me luck, lol! You are such a wonderful teacher and you make it so easy to follow along! So thanks again! ❤

Nate!! Ive been so caught up in piano chord breakthroughs that I haven't checked here in a while but omg thank you for this tutorial! This song is so incredibly special to me, it was one of my late fathers favorite songs so me and my mom danced to it at my wedding in honor of him. I always wanted to learn it and can't wait to play it for my mom!
Thats so special and powerful! Thank you for sharing 💜 It's such an amazing song. Are you a Neil Young fan in general? I will probably do more because he's one of my faves. Also I'm happy to hear you're still getting good use out of piano chord breakthroughs 😄
@@PianowithNate Most definitely a Neil Young Fan, would love to hear you do Unknown Legend, Comes A Time, Sugar Mountain or Only Love Can Break Your Heart! Honestly I've been loving piano chord breakthroughs and just applying them to songs I know and adding to my practicing routine! Learning all sorts of songs on my own now!
Thank you very much for the time and trouble of distilling those chords and subtleties out of the several instruments. I used to have almost eidetic memory for notes and chords when I was younger but the hearing a bit muddy in age, it is not so easy to hear them and dig them out these days. Geriatric evaporative memory syndrome ( sounds nicer than dementia ) also has its finger in the pie. I have also been trying to port the piece over to 120-bass accordion. There are chord combinations which can be created by combinations of chord buttons and single notes but the contortions to get there can be almost painful. - Much appreciated.
@@PianowithNate Accordion bass buttons have two upper rows which are single notes or octaves coupled. The uppermost row is called "counterbass" and for the "C" key would play "E". The button in the second row plays the "C". The rows below play chords, successively C-Major, C-Minor, C-Seventh, C-Diminished. Above the "C" row is "F". Below the "C: row is "G". The "G" diminished can also play as "C"-Seventh. Many players keep it simple and do the complicated work on the piano-style keyboard with the right hand. It is not a good style trying to make the instrument play as an orchestra which it cannot. Sustained notes and chords on the bass buttons are not encouraged. It has been described as dragging the bass and may overpower the sound from the keyboard. The accordion is most often showcased with brilliant and lively arrangements with short notes and staccatos. However, experiments with the bass chords can be enjoyable for the player even if painful for others to listen to, mistakes arthritis and all. ruclips.net/video/-wkiLM2T0o8/видео.html
Great tutorial again (as always), congratulations Nate. Having a Roland FP90X with many sounds, which one would you recommand for this song (Ragtime it seems ?) also, which microphone do you use for your voice recording ? I can plug only Dynamic microphone on Roland FP90X (no phantom power) .. thank you for your advise
Thanks for the kind words! As for sounds, probably the main piano voice unless you want to experiment more. I can't comment as I'm unfamiliar with this keyboard's sounds. My advice is to use your ears and pick whichever sounds the best to you! I use an AKG condensor mic for my recording, which indeed requires phantom power. If you're using it through your keyboard, you're stuck with dynamics. But thats not a bad thing! Sure SM58s are the gold standard for dynamic mics (the most common mic you'll see for singers at live shows). But you'll need an adapter that goes from XLR female to 1/4" male, since that keyboard has only 1/4" input. Cheers!
This is too advanced for me, but I love this song and wanted to hear your cover. Great, great job! Doubt it, but maybe some day I can play it on piano or ukulele.
thank you for this, this is actually such a beautiful cover and a great tutorial. only thing that would have made it better is if you provided/created the sheet music for this just because I am learning how to read music. i am still crazy grateful for this
Hi David! I hear you. The theme of my channel is learning songs without sheet music since most in my audience cannot, and it is the way I have always learned and played as well. I understand that for someone like you who has that skill it would be helpful, but I'm glad you still found the video useful!!
I can see that your content quality is improving. Keep it going. I hope this channel never ends and keeps spreading happiness. Make for us a tutorial "Glimpse of us" by joji. Whoever is reading this, I hope this day will be a great day.
Wow, what a kind comment! Thank you so much. I am working hard on the channel and I'm glad the improvements are apparent. I'll think about Glimpse of Us...I am hesitant to do it because there are already a few tutorials posted recently by other channels that teach it well (and similar to how I would do it) so I'm not sure what value I would add
Heyyy Nate!!! Not a big fan of Neil young, but this is a catchy song. It has a great melody line. This is a great tutorial. This ia a great explanation it’s useful how you begin to show the catchy melody and then you start adding tue specific rhythms 😝👍

Please, Nate. I know it's a lot to ask and I'm sure it's a complicated song to do a tutorial on, at least it would be for a beginner like myself, but I would love to see "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles. I have tried to do it myself and have watched other tutorials but I can't figure out the rhythm. It looks like together then left and then together then left (octave). Any insight would be grateful.
Hey! I am definitely planning to do this soon...sometime in the next month or so. It's definitely a bit of a project, especially because I love the song so much i want to make sure I do it right. I'm not sure what version /tutorial you looked at...it's hard to say for sure what the pattern between the hands should be. On the beatles recording, the piano part is very sparse, and a lot of what is going on musically is also from the bass and guitar. So a solo piano arrangement should incorporate all those elements together so it doesn't sound empty. But I am working on it, and will keep you posted! Also, thank you so much for the tip 😊
