As an Iowa fan I think your analysis is spot on. Iowa still has a long way to go in improving the offense. Tim Lester, the new OC, did a good job with what he had to work with. Using the 4th string QB the last two games I thought he did the best he could. Iowa defense, usually the strong part of the team didn't do as well this year.
Jay I really appreciate this. It's rare that people from the opposite side come in here and be reasonable and talk ball. I agree with you 100%. Respect 🙏🤝
I'm a Hawkeye. I have plenty of Husker friends. We have been discussing the Huskers quite a bit. Here's some thought. Iowa wins games they shouldn't all the time under Kirk Ferentz because his teams don't take unnecessary risk, play solid defense ("bend but don't break") well enough to win, always play well on special teams, and rarely turn the ball over while managing to get the opposing team to turn the ball over. As a result, they beat teams that out gain them and dominate all the other statistics. The Hawkeyes rarely beat themselves. It's a formula that gives them consistent records of 7, 8 or 9 wins a year and once in a while a little better. The Huskers do beat themselves and lose games they should win. It seems like they just can't get out of their own way sometimes. Contributing to the problem is a culture in the football program (contributed to by the fans). Quit worrying about things that don't matter and get focused on solving the problems that lead to losing!!! Seriously! Why pull the handshake crap? Why the prayer crap on the opposing team's logo after you had that controversy before? Quit focusing on bad calls by the refs. Finally, quit all the "but we were great in the 90s" crap attitude that somehow leads to believing there is no reason we can't be that good and led to firing coaches that perhaps shouldn't be fired. Iowa was right there in the 60s and 70s after being really good in the 50s. Iowa didn't look back. Iowa looked forward, Hayden Fry came in and completely changed the culture. Right now, your team is NOT Good. You were 3-6 in the Big Ten. The only reason you had six wins is because you played Northern Iowa (and FCS team with a lousy record) and a lousy UTEP team that was 3-9. There is certainly light at the end of the tunnel. The Huskers show plenty of bright spots in their play. The Huskers played well against Ohio State. You played well against a decent Iowa defense for half the game. You can be good again. But, and it's a big but, you can't turn the ball over and have crappy special teams play. Do that and you are always subject to losing even when you play well otherwise. A change in attitude and culture is needed to get over the hump. Get focused on the little things that make you win consistently and don't beat yourselves. Quit patting yourselves on the back for being great in the 90s Focus on the here and now. Develop a winning culture in the program and the fanbase. From the outside looking in, it appears you think it's just supposed to happen because you are Nebraska (as in the old Nebraska that won all the time in the 90s). Things were different then. This is now and in the Big 10. Iowa turned it around in the 80s with a coach who changed the culture. Nebraska can too.
Without a doubt man, this team still feels different than they even did 4 weeks ago. Just have to learn to make plays when it matters, if that doesn't happen into next year in year 3, THEN we can start to quietly sound the alarms.
Yea, it's not perfect no doubt, but Holgorsen hasn't implemented his entire system, he has had to combine it with some of Satts stuff but has condensed it a lot to simplify it.
You made great points and I think you convinced me to feel better about the Iowa game. I hate that we keep letting Iowa off the hook and I was not happy with Rhule's lack of aggression to score 6 in the game. Seems like Rhule is expecting the close game and so he doesn't do enough to not make it a close game. In the end, I agree with you that there are things to be encouraged about for the future.
I don't think Raiola leaves. He committed to Nebraska because he said that's where his heart was, his dad's name and number is in enshrined in the stadium, his uncle coaches the Oline. His little brother is committed to Nebraska as well. So I think he's trying to see this through.
@@NebraskaVOCFBI don't think we should have taken the little brother's commitment. He's a midget compared to Dylan and not as good. Wish they were more mobile too. They move like the sons of an o-lineman.
You can’t beat Iowa trying to play like Iowa. They will make you look ugly. They will look ugly the entire game. When it’s over they usually win. They get 8-10 wins every single year with no offense. It’s mind blowing but winning is winning. They have great defense and special teams and a offense that doesn’t turn the ball over. They just wait for teams to make a mistake and they always take advantage of it.
Kinda, I wouldn't say they "always get it done." Maybe against us because we suck. Seems even their best teams always lose eventually to teams with firepower.
