I agree....mixed emotions on this. Lino asked for us to share this as he wants to remind people of the challenges and emotional investment in glassmaking
For every artist out there, every craftsperson, seeing this is hard. But it is a reassuring thing to know that even a maestro can have a failure. Take heart, it is the essence of creation.
This is part of it. The rush of completing something, knowing that this exact thing could happen, but didn't. The knowledge of experience gained from doing awkward projects greatly outweighs the final product.
+I Heart Lino It is, but Lino was glad to share this experience with others so that they appreciate the effort that goes in to glassmaking, and to demonstrate the fact that you never know what will happen to a masterpiece.
I've watched a lot of the Corning Museum Glass and have always wondered how oftened and at times thought it was going to happen while I was watching them
Yes, it's more than an hour. I've been watching blown away (highly recommend), which is a competition show on netflix about glassmaking. They have 4-5 hrs to finish each challenge. One of the contestants took inspiration from Lino and it was not as close to this but she did it for 5 hrs. I think this one takes longer than 5 hrs based on the intricacy of the design, but it's Maestro Lino here that we're talking about so
I think he said, “I push pipe like apprentice. I don’t have hit.” I think in the moment the piece just got too heavy for him and he knew he couldn’t be on the pipe himself.
bro, anyone whos worked in the hot shop in that situation should be smart enough to have his hands under the piece until the transfer is complete.. totally that guys fault
It's hard to watch this again. But Lino bounces back. All you can do is start the next piece and move on. You relive the moment in your mind for a few hours and then get over it. Glass breaks... all the time.
Its unfortunate but its called being human. If you never beoke a piece or had anything crack in your career as a maker it means you are perfect and no one out there is.
No, It's not "just glass." It's art, unique art. There will never be another work like that. Each work of glass is as unique as a human. But it's an eye-opener to artists that their work can vanish. It's precious.
I just randomly looked up 'largest blown glass' here i am. This video gave me so much anxiety i'm going to go step outside. Feel terrible for the artist and those involved.
I thought watching a fall wud be fun but it's really heart breaking a lot of work in these works of art
Yes. Glassmaking can be very painful at times. Lino wanted to remind people of this
My thoughts exactly 😅
I came here for a laugh and ended up feeling sad.
I agree....mixed emotions on this. Lino asked for us to share this as he wants to remind people of the challenges and emotional investment in glassmaking
Hah same! This comment made me happy again

It's sad but not the end it's the beginning of something new. Good work
It lookes liked it slipped out of his hands.
You can tell the guy with the gloves was burning up staying on the piece so long with his hands.
They need more people with gloves lol
it was so sudden, even though I read that title, its kinda heart breaking to see that glass work shatter
Collect all the pieces and and put them in another vessel and create another new life from a broken one...this is art!
Great thinking
awe that was so sad I really hope one day he remakes it that was amazing looking
1:24 this woman has serious skill.
Perversia you are correct, she had very serious skill
heartbreaking ..

All that beautiful work-feeling sad !
I've watched a lot of the Corning Museum Glass and have always wondered how oftened and at times thought it was going to happen while I was watching them
well, that was depressing
The Olympics of glass blowing, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. 😢
holy shit the panic
On the bright side the piece is forever preserved on video
kyolym this is true! Thanks for watching : )
They stay remarkably calm
how long do they take to make? I'm guessing more than an hour.

Everybody okay? Can i let go???!!! Dude lets it GO!!😱😱😱😱😱😱
I think he said, “I push pipe like apprentice. I don’t have hit.” I think in the moment the piece just got too heavy for him and he knew he couldn’t be on the pipe himself.
Damn he wanted to cry i heard that crackle in his voice
Glassworkers, what’s a Boston wrap? The lady says it around 1:40.
That's so heartbreaking.
bro, anyone whos worked in the hot shop in that situation should be smart enough to have his hands under the piece until the transfer is complete.. totally that guys fault
BigGReynolds79 ok shit happens
The other one ask if he can let it go, no answer and he went
is that guy holding it like some kind of hip dancing warrior just for the show?
No, it's actually really heavy and it's melted from where it's holding itself. So the "hip dancing" is an attempt to not fuck up the piece lol
Well, shit happens.
You can depend on the worst always happening. Then all will be fair.
That was so stressful. There could totally be a show about competitive glass blowing tho.
There it! It’s called Blown Away on Netflix. There’s two seasons up
“Blown Away” is on Netflix, don’t know if it was there when you made this comment but I just started watching about a hour ago lol
@@loes3000 lmao I just came from a video about that show
Well done 👌 great job 👍
It's hard to watch this again. But Lino bounces back. All you can do is start the next piece and move on. You relive the moment in your mind for a few hours and then get over it. Glass breaks... all the time.

This is actually breaking my heart...
Can 🧐they use the same glass , and melt it down again ,milked glue it together ?
Oh shit I wouldn't like being that assistant
Rick Hapstley happens to the best of them!
The stress of watching people run over to catch it but then… it’s hot!
That is commonly called a Floor Model !
how to
make cullett...
they are all heroes
I knew that was going to be hard to watch..... but damn!
Why don’t they have a fireproof pillow to put under it instead of bare concrete?
Its unfortunate but its called being human. If you never beoke a piece or had anything crack in your career as a maker it means you are perfect and no one out there is.
if it was that easy everyone would do it. You have to pick yourself up and get over it each time.
That poor thing was doomed from the start. It just had to go somehow. Build on the ashes is what you do.
No one really seemed to be in charge....inevitable.
The other end snapped and hazmat suit wasn't holding it
I thought I was gonna laugh out loud but damn…I almost cried :’(
Good ...over confidence
For everyone that has ever lost a piece of “Glass Art” on the garage floor. 💨

I came when they dropped it.
2:42
2:41 - The only job the guy had to do was to hold the god damn glasswork, but failed to hold it and let it just fell to the ground.
When your help is incompetant
Old man tries to take control and gets cocky with his demanding and gets karma'd.
