I hope this was the last time people tried to the over-hype this match-up, there's no Rivarly when one tean wins and the other always loses, I hope the Rivarly talks can finally stop now.
Haley Van Lith is overjoyed to be playing for TCU. At least she no longer gets blamed for everything that goes wrong for LSU. What's amazing to me is that LSU players who got significant playing time last year, like Poa and Del Rosario are no longer qualified for playing time this year.
Haley got blamed for the dumb sh/t that she actually did do! She was practically handing Clark the darn ball in that Championship game. I still think that she was a plant! That's why she left! TCU just got beat too!
I really hope SC can get another shot at UCLA in the Final Four or natty game. LSU shouldn't feel too bad about this game, they have to figure out how to play without fouling as much but other than that today's effort would beat alot of other teams, SC is just on a different level as we all should know by now.

Dawn Staley is a gift to women's basketball. The sooner the rest of the coachless follow her lead (and I'm not just talking about in coaching), the better off the genre will be.

Since you were indeed talking about basketball, and since she is a college coach and you like the here and now, Geno Auriemma with 11 NCAA titles and the most WNBA players would be a greater gift to the sport. I am not saying Joyce Edwards is not capable of potentially getting National Player of the Year but it will be hard. The next few years she will be up against Watkins and Hidalgo and also Sarah Strong all of who will likely have a much higher usage rate. The depth of SC and the high usage rate of those other three stars will make it hard. But I do expect she will be in the conversation the next few years.
Shout out for the awesome analysis, as always! This game was as you said, an Epic defensive battle and diving into the stats, SC just won more of those passion plays, like getting 11 blocked shots vs only 2 for LSU, and grabbing 11 steals vs 8 for LSU. And yes the LSU starters played much heavier minutes. Their entire bench played only 29 minutes total, while the SC bench played double that amount, a whopping 57 minutes. Kudos to the deep, and talented Gamecocks! Would love to see a rematch between them and the UCLA Bruins...
I was surprised it was this close...outside of Tennessee LSU has had (as usual) one of the easiest schedules in the nation. So having been relatively untested I expected them to fall behind early .. but the opposite happened they played well early. This will be a year that LSU if they want a top two seed they will actually have to earn it... as this year the SEC has some good teams beyond SC and LSU . This year LSU as of right now has 5 more top 20 team on the rest of their schedule. In the past their only real opponent was SC (like the first half of this season outside of Tennessee). So if LSU gets to March with 2 losses or less they will actually deserve a top seed.
Aneesah Morrow should be brought home to Chicago Sky to play 2, 3, and occasionally some 4. The girl has toughness, relentlessness, handles, 6-15 from 3pt land this year, terror on boards, midrange terror, and doesn't mis layups, an bring the ball up and start a play
18-26 (12) vs 7-9 (19) that's the difference in the game. Take it away and LSU wins by 1. I checked the box score, to see what I already knew and I was not shocked. This should be LSU's only loss going into the post season.
Yup, and I love both these teams, but anytime I see lop-sided calling I turn the game off. Cause I already know what time it is. I hate they did that to this game though. Takes away from the win.
LSU lost because they began their year by playing 11 homes games and no games against aany ranked teams. Whereas, Carolina played against 8 ranked teams beforre they played LSU, which was their 9 ranked team. And Carolina's DEFENSE ruled!!!
No, 18-26 and 7-9 are more factors than those blocks. To say all of those blocks were the cause is not so. To say more of those blocks were fouls would be more accurate.
@@michaelpinell1861This comment is LSUs problem they DEPEND on getting to line and having favor of refs to win. Stop the flopping learn to make better decisions. SC vs UCLA, UCLA got away with fouling SC a lot with with limited trips to line but SC didn’t lose because of Fouls they played a bad game and UCLA deserved to win. Y’all should have lost to Rice and Middle Tennessee in the tournament last year. LSU had the refs favor against these cupcake teams in the non conference schedule and even against their SEC matchups like against Auburn. No excuses LSU, if your team it’s getting favorable calls, score, go on runs, make better shot selections.
LSU is lucky Ashlyn isn’t playing due to injury, because if she were, Aneesah’s production would look very different. Aneesah Morrow is a dog, but Ashlyn is much stronger than Chloe, far more athletic, and just as good a rebounder as Aneesah. On top of that, Ashlyn can block shots and defend at an elite level.
Get out of here with that weak-ass take. Aneesah Morrow is 3 for 3 in double-double games against South Carolina. She had two last season with Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso on the floor. Ashlyn Watkins was a non-factor in those games. Even at 6'1, Morrow can rebound against any player in the country. Even Dawn Staley acknowledged her after the game.
Quita, have you thought about creating a Discord for your fans so we can interact with each other and talk women’s basketball. I’m in two discord groups but they are all in to Men’s basketball. They tolerate my chats but don’t really engage, lol.

Rebecca Lobo once said in a game that you couldn't hold your hand up against a defender like hand check but you can put it there and take it off talking about Raven against Clark in the championship game but soon as Morrow do the same thing she the 1st one screaming that is not a foul... Make it make sense, Lobo should be banned from SC games.
Well you know they could draft Sonia Citron in the first Round with their Second pick for that. And still get Raven in the 2nd Round. If I were the Sky, I would trade some of their players outside of KC and Reese for additional picks to assure they get both.
@ And I would still trade for more. This Draft is just too good IMO and most of the players they kept, aren't. IMO. Then sign any potential Free Agents. Or and and some combinations of deals with current player for those players.
18-26 and 7-9 and you win by 10? It showed SC can make enough free throws to win, but it didn't say they were better. I'm weak at all of SC fans saying, "And we didn't play our best." I'm like, "no shit, the team you played got in your shit." This has been the 2nd time in 3 games I've seen that. Do they not ever give the opposing team credit? But there's plenty of season left and I see Tennessee knocking SC off.
Using the refs as an excuse is not indicative of a championship mentality. The refs allowed LSU to be extremely physical during the first half and SC just stayed the course. No complaining. The refs normally are not for Dawn Staley and everyone knows it but they don't complain just adjust. When SC went to LSU there are questionable calls but keep playing. LSU is very talented and I'm not a fan of saying the bench is not good players. Sometimes you have to trust them so they can gain confidence. You can't wait until it's an important game and look down the bench and say we don't have one. Dawn play alot of players and have been even when they weren't good.
If the REFS were not for DAWN, she would have ZERO NCAA Titles. Fact is, certain teams and Coaches get far better calls then most teams. That has been the case since Basketball was invented.
@SportsTymeStories-h8x So, you actually think a black woman, Dawn Staley will get calls over these white coaches that are just as successful as she? So explain how when SC played Iowa in the final four and they painted the narrative that Coach Staley players were Bar fighters, thugs and bullies. The refs came right out and gave Boston 3 fouls in the first 5 minutes and she had to sit. SC still only lost by 4 points. SC didn't complain they took it and won it all last year. Everyone know SC would have beat LSU again for the Natty. Stop painting a narrative that Coach Staley getting favors from refs. Each time Dawn got spanked by UConn there were calls that favored Geno. No complaints and no excuses, they lost. Guess what Geno was always loaded with all 5 stars. If LSU don't know how to use Rosario please send her to Columbia. Coach Staley will play that 5 star.
@ First of all, I could Coach Dawn's bench to a winning a Record, so stop pretending as if Dawn hasn't had stacked teams along with other Coaches that are winning the last few years. And yes, Dawn typical will get the Calls over certain teams. But not EVERY team. Facts aren't Complaints nor excuses and folk better start figuring that out Soon.
LSU played off emotions in the fist quarter after that they lost every quarter just like last year..S.C didn't even play well and still won by 10. SC just cruised in the 3rd and 4th quarter turning it up when they had too. And both teams had shots rimmed out.
Actually the last quarter was a tie, 15-15 so do your homework. LSU didn’t play well and still lost by effectively 8, not counting the last 2 insignificant points.
The difference is what kim always says, a team that grows together is what makes a team chemistry key! Take notre Dame, uconn, and Ucla. They have chemistry and cooking this year!
She says experience but 18-26 and 7-9 doesn't help either. Call these games even. I expect when these teams play, they should always set a new record for fouls and that's because of how hard and physical they each play defense.
The refs were a factor but they weren’t THE factor… the fact is that LSU bench didn’t show up and their starters couldn’t withstand South Carolinas defense
@PunChee-mj3no look up the stats. You do realize SC existed b4 the 17 years Dawn was there right and SC was a forever bottom dweller right? Don't forget where you come from.
@michaelpinell1861 Yeah, but you said recent history. It's not where you're from, it's where you're at. And right now, Dawn's team is dominating. Just accept it.
Hey Quita...LSU definitely lost that exceptionally well played basketball game versus South Carolina because of the Gamecocks DEFENSE, BLOCKED SHOTS, more FREE THROWS and much better BENCH production. I'm from Connecticut scouting that game competition. Great game! BUT.... Neither LSU or SC can win against UCONN's 3 point shooting committee if the Huskies keep up their team defense and excellent offensive ball movement.
Safe to say there is no question who has the best and deepest talent in the SEC but that hardly means they have the best Coach. Same for all the other conferences.
Lsu didnt have anyone that could shut down the middle either. Also, when all the ladies foul they say they didn’t. Constantly arguing calls which you know are correct taints the audiences perception. The Refs set the tone early, they called everything they could.
What kind of thumbnail is this...? What dis we expect...? We expected the refs to be fair....Every shot by LSU was blocked clean apparently.... And every forced shot from SC was a foul... apparently...Took our players out the game Mentally..The jump ball calls were premature...The foul shot disparity was ridiculous..... However, I must say SC is the best coached team in the nation... Coach Mulkey Has to be Better with her rotations...Daye Wilson gives US nothing. .ever ...Why Coach is so patient and loyal to her...is beyond me....Jada could do no worse... And she's a Better scorer...
Not to bash our players but Day-Wilson didn't crack until the second half. She gave some quality minutes and hit some timely buckets at times. That 18-26 and 7-9 is what bothers me. Statistically, LSU won all major categories except free throws attempted. That was the game. And I still don't believe SC is above the rest especially after my team, that was supposed to get run out of the gym lost to the officials.
Sc didn’t expose anything, they won at home by 8 not counting the insignificant last 2. That game show that if it was in BR, the outcome would’ve been different!
More times then not, most players can really go Cold towards the end of games regardless of the Defense. Everybody and their grandmother should know the Depth of SC as compared to most teams. So many teams can't throw it in the Ocean in the final quarter. Trying to make it anything then what it was and what we see all day long in Basketball for most teams at HOME, SC at home, REFS giving them Home Cooking. Happens all the time. This wasn't some 3 or 5 game series. So I don't buy the tired myths. REFS gave LSU the business. Sure, the SC players might be a little fresher, but we are talking about ELITE players like Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow. The TWO FAB freshman for Michigan were able to go the distance but folks want to act like Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow Couldn't. It's all about Willpower. And yes, REFS were giving SC all the Home Cooking they could eat. Now we see if a Tennessee can stay hot from 3s and how that would play out against SC. They are up next.
Yall lsu fans are soft. Talkn all that smack, then boo hooin after an L. Take the L, softies. We were not crying after Ucla bought it to us. Yall SOFT !!!!!!!!!
They were down 30 at UCLA. The refs didn't cause that. UCLA was shooting in the ocean that game a SC played their worst defense. I'm gonna repeat this 18-26 and 7-9. Who benefitted from the refs?
This was actually a bad game fundamentally and cosmetically. Both teams missed way too many gimmies in the paint which led to poor FG percentage. SC shot 37.1% while LSU shot 29.9. From three, the gamecocks went a dismal 2-13 for 15.4%, and the tigers weren't much better going 3-14 for 21.4%. Defense,, foul shots and points off turnovers won it for SC. They had 11 blocks, and went 18-26 from the charity stripes compared to LSU'S 7-9. In similar fashion, they scored 22 points off turnovers compared to LSU's 8. At some point, Raven and Bree will have to give the team something on the offensive side of the ball or it might eventually cost them. The game would have definitely looked different at the PMAC maybe with or without the same outcome, but I just couldn't see Kim Mulkey beating Dawn Staley at the CLA without a post-game and only *six (6)* players, my friend. †
I kinda agree with most of what you say, but each team played 9 players. That's 2 more than what Kim played last year. The free throw discrepancy is the game. Take that away and LSU wins, so favorable calls won this game.
@@michaelpinell1861 Each team played 9, but SC played 9 All Americans, my friend. LSU played only 4. Three of LSU's bench players only played 14 minutes combined, 9, 3 and 2. They had a total of *zero (0)* points and *4* rebounds. That's less than last year's 2 bench player's 33 minutes 7 boards and 8 points. They have regressed. The three gamecocks with the least amount of playing time off the bench, combined for 35 minutes, 22 points and 7 boards. Only one played less than 14 minutes. There's your difference. I can't blame the refs. They call it how they see it. Kim Mulkey said it best, my friend: “Well you’ve got 10 McDonald’s All-Americans. Flip a coin, y’all can play any of them you want. Got to keep them happy, right?” Mulkey said. “I don’t have that. I’ve got to go with what I have, what I feel in my gut. Coach Mulkey hasn't developed any of the bench players over the last 2 years. As a result, it's hurting the team. I think Del Rosario, Richard, Sheppard and Gilbert all transfer out next year.
@ChrisHill-w3j Yes. I told my wife the same thing last night about Del Rosario. My wife has a family friend whose daughter played under Mulkey at Baylor that got railroaded after being a highly regarded recruit in high school. Needless to say, Mulkey has a track record. If you are not a favorite of hers, she won't put you in.
LSU is a better team in the one on one game. SC just suffocated the space for that talent and took the game home with her BIGS.. Dawn is not developing her team for the future..She just make them a team that if drafted into a single Franchise will never be defeated. But look at her top tier draftees in the WNBA..Boston and Cardoso arent playing as higher as drafted.
This game was won based on 2 things. Home court & refs. By the way, what’s South Carolinas scoring average this year cause I keep hearing how SC held LSU G to 56 points?? I believe they averaged less than a point per possession in their own gym.

However, those two calls wouldn’t have made any difference. Referees had some bad calls against SC. Just play the game!
Mulkey is stubborn and always gets out coached by Staley. You have a 6’5” Wolfenbargrr 6’6” Del Rosario and they get limited minutes is bizarre to me.Day- Wilson is the best ball handler on the squad and should focus on being the floor general.Run some sets for the bigs on offense.Should be going 9-10 into the bench.
are you slow? Del Rosario SUCKS! why play someone more bc they are tall. Everytime yall talk, you show why you aren’t a coach and on the internet sounding like a clown. All the accolades this lady Coach Kim has and you seriously think you can do and know better!? lmfao 🤡
I take it that you don't watch LSU basketball. Del Rosario is horrible. She's picked up some weight and is even slower than last year. Wolfenbarger is actually a guard. She's playing out of position. She doesn't have the dawg in her or the skillset to play post. As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't miss either of them if they decided to transfer out.
What cost LSU this game was the absence of Angel Reese! That and snow on the ground in Baton Rouge! Kim Mulkey, just like Dawn Staley, was an All-American point guard. Why can't she train her point guards to play the game right? And I believe LSU has a bench. It's just that Kim Mulkey does not use her bench.
That's not true. Every team AR played on against SC lost. So please stop bringing that Lady up. 18-26 and 7-9 is what cost LSU the game. That's the free throw discrepancy. Training a player to do anything is like training any of us to do something. But that's besides the point because the ones opposite are trained to counter. So, I'm not understanding that point.
Now, I need to call you out Quita. Anybody saying LSU was tired in the first quarter is full of it. Bench production does not always amount to scoring. When u get in the game, can you get a deflection, set a nice screen, etc. Looking at the box score, they each played 9 players. Most minutes played was 38 by Morrow. To not say fouls weren't a factor is BS and you're riding the hype train. SC was 18-26, and LSU was 7-9. Take away free throws and LSU wins. So, did SC really beat LSU or did the officials? LSU clobbered them on the boards. So make sense what you're saying. Yes LSU had some untimely turnovers but SC did not beat LSU as badly as many say, considering free throw discrepancy. And to take this team as a non contender is foolish.
@artdogg50 that is a lot, but what team outside of one team with 10 McDonald's AA doesn't play their best players anywhere between 65-85% of the minutes? Even the best team in the NBA plays their starters a lot of minutes. Only the 6 and 7 rotation players see any significant minutes outside of that. But to say first quarter is asinine. I guess SC was tired too because their starters played more than normal too.

What different level? 18-26 and 7-9 and win by 10? Does SC not foul shooters? Cause that's the only different level I saw.
@@michaelpinell1861 I bet you think refs didn't play a factor in this year's football game...the LSU fan base is delusional...y'all flat out lost...17 straight LSU doesn't belong on the same court as South Carolina
@@dylanwheat5729how you switch over to football?! That’s not the topic. I love both these teams but the refs did call the game lop-sided. The fact that the refs felt they needed to do that is wild. Dawn Staley is a gift to women's basketball. The sooner the rest of the coachless follow her lead (and I'm not just talking about in coaching), the better off the genre will be.
Women basketball has a lot of gifts, my friend. Some came before Dawn, some with Dawn, and there will be others after Dawn. They all have their own style, my friend. †

@@GreatlinClarkFan-c5h
In your initial comment, you said, *"And I'm not just talking about coaching."* Then, my friend, you finished your last comment talking about "coaching." I personally don't know what WNBA coaches getting fired has to do with Dawn Staley having class or being a gift to basketball especially when she has never been a WNBA coach. Neither has she won a WNBA title or been a WNBA MVP.
Since you were indeed talking about basketball, and since she is a college coach and you like the here and now, Geno Auriemma with 11 NCAA titles and the most WNBA players would be a greater gift to the sport. Kim Mulkey has also won more titles.
You mentioned class but didn't provide an example. Class comes in many forms, and while I'm a huge Dawn Staley and SC fan, Neile Ivey has as much as anyone, my friend. †
LSU down the stretch looked out of condition when SC applied their pressure defense
Dud.. They're not as deep as SC
@ikewilson4500 They are deep. Mulkey just didn't play her bench. As soon as they made a mistake, she benched them or didn't play them at all.
@MsLawson34 Wrong.. Not the same talent level. She'll get it, though. It's only year 4
I wouldn't be surprised if Del Rosario is playing for USC next season. Kim runs those starters too hard.
Again, I would like to thank UCLA for handing us that L. Y’all woke up the beast
As a Gamecock fan, I didn’t expect to go undefeated. Plus we miss that tall height that we had with Boston/Amihere/Cardosa.
I’m not surprised at all and knew was going to happen!! Go Gamecocks!!
But I do expect she will be in the conversation the next few years.
same can be said about Aja & Aliyah’s canpaign.
Fagin just starting to blossom!
This only makes march more interesting.
Aneesah Morrow should be brought home to Chicago Sky to play 2, 3, and occasionally some 4.
The girl has toughness, relentlessness, handles, 6-15 from 3pt land this year, terror on boards, midrange terror, and doesn't mis layups, an bring the ball up and start a play
no she shouldn’t
Fantastic game. I do think SC got some favorable calls, and man did LSU's ball circle around that rim and pop out 4-5 times!
18-26 (12) vs 7-9 (19) that's the difference in the game. Take it away and LSU wins by 1. I checked the box score, to see what I already knew and I was not shocked. This should be LSU's only loss going into the post season.

LSU lost because they began their year by playing 11 homes games and no games against aany ranked teams. Whereas, Carolina played against 8 ranked teams beforre they played LSU, which was their 9 ranked team. And Carolina's DEFENSE ruled!!!
All that being said then SC should have blew them out. SC was struggling most of the game just like LSU. SC just made little more plays to win

Y’all should have lost to Rice and Middle Tennessee in the tournament last year. LSU. Couldn’t have won this game lol Johnson and Johnson was playing great guard defense

Not to bash our players but Day-Wilson didn't crack until the second half. She gave some quality minutes and hit some timely buckets at times. That 18-26 and 7-9 is what bothers me. They don't individually play the minutes to have 2 or 3 huge scorers. If Joyce played the whole game she would definitely have 20+ each game.
The LSU GUARDS were a mess. Gilbert didnt have her usual energy.
The referees gave UCLA the game and took the gamecocks off their stride. I don’t feel the gamecocks lost that game.
Isn’t it suspicious that none of those 11 blocks were fouls??!!
Sakima leaves much to be desired. I’m not sad to see her ride the bench. I wonder if her former NBA dad forced her to play the sport.
LSU is a better team in the one on one game. SC just suffocated the space for that talent and took the game home with her BIGS..
So, I'm not understanding that point.
you can train PG all you like but if they are hard headed and selfish what can you do?
Lsu choked, unfortunately
💯!!
Morrow played 38 minutes, Williams 37, Wilson 34, and Flau'Jae 33. I mean that is a lot.
