She really is amazing. Can even give Caitlin Clark her super-deserved props. Most Chicago fans can't. Quita's parents are fair too. You see where she gets it from. Amazing parents. Also just all hoopers who appreciate talent no matter team, color, or creed.
It seems like a lot of front offices in the WNBA aren’t ready for the big time. At least Seattle didn’t let Jewel Lloyd walk for nothing **cough, cough* Chicago Sky *cough, cough*
I think the general consensus is that LA might have overpaid given the uncertain nature of contracts with the new CBA coming. This might actually discourage further similar trades.
I didn’t think about Satou going to the Valkeries. That’s a good perspective. Alyssa and Dejauna make since to Phoenix but what does Conn Sun get in return.
Also keep in mind that the Los Angeles Sparks STILL have a 1st round pick (No. 9) in this year’s WNBA Draft. They could entice Dallas to trade Satou to them for the No. 9 pick as well. The Sparks are now in the enviable position of having TWO stars in Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby + TWO young elite talents in Rikea Jackson and Cameron Brink. Satou would be going to an LA Sparks squad that is every bit as loaded talent-wise as the Indiana Fever is.🤷🏽♂️ The Sparks also have other young talent that they could part with to entice such a trade with the Dallas Wings. In addition to the Sparks’ No. 9 pick, the Sparks have Rae Burrell and Zia Cook. Keep in mind that the Sparks are sick and tired of missing the playoffs. The Sparks now have the assets and the motivation to leave their cellar-dweller days in the rear view mirror. Stay tuned!😉
The fact that Satou said "ring" on a video, I think she's wanting or expecting to go to the Liberty (since they just won a ring). I could be wrong though.
Remember, Dallas received #3 pick from Atlanta for Alisha Grey who had one year remaining on contract. And of course Alisha re signed with Atlanta. Market for good players has been high for years because its not really for 1 year.
Keep in mind that wanting something and getting something are two completely different things.🤷🏽♂️ Satou is a fantastic player..when healthy. THAT is the issue that Dallas will be dealing with in trying to get the best assets in a Satou trade. Remember, availability is also the BEST ability. It doesn’t matter how good or how great a player is. What matters most is are you able to count on that player being available more often than not. Satou has yet to prove that at any point in her WNBA career and THAT very alarming for a player who is still only 24 years old.🤷🏽♂️ If I’m Dallas, I wouldn’t get too comfortable thinking that they’re going to get the same value that Seattle got in their blockbuster trade with Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
If this is the going price for a top player trade, the Fever need to stay away from Sabally unless Mitchell wants to leave the fever. The alternative would just be too high a price.
My understanding Hamby wasn’t supported by the Aces players when Hamby filed lawsuit. There were interviews about that earlier. Sparks needs a PG not a SG. Plum really doesn’t fit the role. Indy has options besides Satou. Amber was looking overseas. This will be one of the more interesting drafts. A T would be good for Phoenix. I could see Bonner there too. 🩷🏀
I am not sure this trade sets the market. I think the CBA opt out is a big factor. Alyssa Thomas to Phoenix may factor into the market. Even though Kelsey and Jewel have championship pedigree, Alyssa is a bigger, better more impactful player than either of them. It would be interesting to see if Gabby Williams comes back to the W, she wasted no time exiting and was mad at the league. Seatlle may have cored her just to retain trade rights.
I really think if this is possible: Dallas gets 5th pick from GS and 2026 First Round pick from Indiana GS gets Nalyssa Smith & 2025 Second Round pick from Indiana Indiana gets Satou Sabally from Dallas and 2026 Second Round pick from GS
First of all, teams dont give up lottery picks or even high first round picks to players on one year deals without having a strong promise from player/ agent that they will re sign as a certain dollar amount for certain number of years. So, Dallas should require a lottery pick or two first round picks and a player for Soutou. Knowing Soutou, she would prefer NY for market and sister, but NY typically drives a hard bargain in trades. India should do deal to win a championship, but likely Soutou doesn't want to live in Indiana for 4 years. Would Seattle give the #2 pick for Soutou? Or do they want to give #2 pick plus Horston and Ezii for #1 (Paige) and McCowen.
What’s wasting a drafts time? It’s not like the nba where there’s months between draft night and training camp. If you know where your going allow the rookie to get the best opportunity to stay and play in the league
I doubt that ALL the players sided with management. I suspect opinions were split, with some loyal to the management and others loyal to friendship with Dearica. In a team of 12 people, some players will form great friendships with certain teammates, while feeling less close to others.
In reality, LA didnt trade the #2 pick for Plum, they swapped the #2 pick and and Plum for the #9 pick and a 2026 second round pick. Based on that, Dallas wouldnt be entitled to a first round pick for Satou unless they are also throwing in a #1 and #2 in either this years draft or next. There a big difference between trading a #1 pick and a pick swap.
I personally think from a contact standing trading #2 is short sighted .However, there in no guarantee Miles, Paige B., of F. Johnson will be there...all 3 have college eligibility remaining and could stay in school. Still questionable move.
@quitalovessports, Tomorrow night, the UCONN women will be at DePaul at the WinTrust Arena, a chance to see the presumptive # 1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft Caitlin (Paige) Bueckers.
I don't think Aja plays in any of these leagues or overseas in the off-season. She still comes back playing on a different level every year so maybe the rest does her good.
Quita, What is this NEW Women’s “UPSHOT LEAGUE” Women’s Professional Basketball League ? It will be Based in Jacksonville, Florida. It is Beginning May 2026 ! Cheryl Miller is Associated with this League !
As always, thank you, Quita, for another insightful analysis! Both the Aces/Sparks/Seattle trade and now the Mercury/Sun trade are really interesting developments. Not surprising, but interesting to see them settle out. I do wonder what Mercury will give Sun in exchange for Thomas. I'm sure we'll find out soon. I agree with you that Fever shouldn't give away draft picks to get Satou. Satou is a great player, and I'm cutting her some slack on her disappointing Unrivaled games (giving her a chance to figure out the 3x3 rhythm). But her history of injuries definitely degrades her value. I would have been supportive of Fever offering her a contract outright if she had remained truly a free agent, but with Wings deciding to core her, I don't think it's a good move to give up whatever Wings are likely to demand in a trade. Fever has choices other than Satou - hiring an overseas player, hiring either Natasha Howard or Izzy Harrison just for a year to share minutes with NaLyssa Smith (if Coach White thinks NaLyssa is salvageable), trading NaLyssa with a 2025 draft pick to another team to get either Sophie Cunningham or Megan Gustafson, etc. Fever already saw what it was like to have a key player (Temi) sitting out for a huge part of the season and then being subpar when she came back due to being out of shape. I'm not eager to see Fever repeat that experience with Satou. I think 2025 draft picks are kind of disposable, due to the expansion draft adding TWO new teams this year. Any promising bench players acquired through this draft will be candidates for the expansion teams to raid unless they've got enough star power to be starters. I wouldn't give up a 2026 draft pick, though. Those will be gold.
Curt miller effect he wanted Paige in LA they tanked to get her he got fired …and then he gets hired at Dallas for the Gm and they get the number 1 pick no other then Paige Curt said he gone get Paige no matter where he go 😂😂😂 it’s funny but sad because she don’t wanna be in Dallas
If I were The Sparks, I would have traded the second pick, & Cam Brink for Beckers. Cams career is over. She’s to tall and Skinny to every play 100 percent healthy. She also was awful in the games she did play. The only thing that was consistent about her game, was getting benched early with foul trouble every single game.
As a Wings fan, I’ve been saying for a while that I hate that Satou is leaving but it feels like a mini bidding war is brewing for her between the Fever, Liberty and a couple of others and I think we are going to get a lot back in a trade. 🤠
Yeah no I'm okay without sabaly in indi this year. One year deal will prolly lose draft pick. I'm not convinced that Boston is the big to get us to the chip so I think we use the draft pick sell smith for a high draft pick and play for a year down the road to go all out for a chip idk that we ready for a all out push
AB isn't the big to get indy to a championship? Dude AB was the main reason Indy was competitive this year, she led the team in Winshares and is the best defender and rebounder on the team other than Hull. Indy wasn't going to get Satou regardless, their trade package wasn't going to be good.
LA only did a 1st rd pick swap & traded a 2nd rd pick to get KP. Which is what I said all along you can get these cored players for very little. The Sparks won that trade because they got a proven player at a position of need instead of hoping on potential. The Fever should do the same. Having a proven players is better than hoping on potential especially a 1st Team WNBA talent player. There not 1 in this years draft trust me 😂especially where the Fever are picking it’s no brainer to trade for Satou. The Fever should be willing to swap their 1st rd pick for the Wings 2nd rd pick or give the Wings their 1st & 2nd rd picks in this year’s draft if needed. Because there are not two players in this draft that would be worth more to the Fever next year than Satou. The draft picks are not guaranteed to make the roster especially the 2nd rd pick. It’s very difficult for any draft picks to make a roster after picks 1-4 in the 1st rd because after those picks are playoffs teams. The Fever can easily get Satou there’s no issue & they should do it. But remember Satou has to want to come to Indy first because she has trade veto power which means she’s only going to the team she wants to play for. There will be no bidding war because this is not a normal trade because she’s a cored player.
One issue I see with WNBA is that they don't suspend players for their actions... I've never seen so much bickering at the refs like this in my 20+ years of coaching, and I've coached 37 teams from youth to college
Sparks got fleeced in this trade. Plum is not who y’all think she is. Olivia Miles the likely #2 would’ve made way more sense long term for the Sparks. Already close to Plum’s level and fits the Sparks timeline. Jewell Loyd is washed, but at least Vegas got its pick back. Seattle Storm, on the other hand, made out like bandits.

Want a video about the options for the Fever to pursue and what you would do, Quita.
That would be awesome
Yep, Annie just confirmed it. AT is going to Phoenix. 👀

And so is Ty Harris 😊 If KiKi Herbert-Harrigan makes the Mercury traing camp again, Ty will be reunited with her South Carolina teammate❤
