  • I took my Versys X 300 on a road trip to Summer Lake in eastern Oregon. My first motorcycle road trip, completely solo.
    It was a good time, lots of isolated roads, fantastic views and only minor calamities.

    Just found a 2017 with 950 miles.. Bought it cause of all the good reviews, wieght, reliability ive seen so far on utube an first nice lighter bike. Was this or DR650. But this thing is was like brand new. Thanks for video , getting all upgrades, bash plates, etc on mine.. fixing do my first solo. Im 67 an looking forward to this since High School. Hows vibration, handle bars.. my throttle side bit buzzy. yes ive practiced loosing my grip till I damn near let go an i have placed grip puppies on it. Im gonna get different end wieghts but was kind wondering if anyone else had slight vibe handlebars...YES SEAT IS LIKE SITTING ON A BRICK! BUT SOME CHEAP MODS DO IT YOURSELF ON UTUBE.

    very beautiful travelogue, didn't you get tired of the many turns of the engine on the long straights? , we in Greece have more twisty roads, where the x300 does great! Always be upright!

      Yes, it was very tiring. Pretty much the entire time, the engine was 8 - 9,000 rpm at highway speeds. I did have earplugs in the whole time so It wasn't too bad. Thanks for watching!

    Aweaome! Awesome also! I live in the mountains of PA. I use Shinko Big Block-E804 front, E805 rear.....
    I ride mostly backroads, state game lands/forest-log roads and old?rail road grade-washed out creeks, n endless fields and fire roads.
    I do have to ride a lot of hard road but most mph 55. I call her my mountain goat, she can go pretty much anywhere you want her and shes light enough, just.
    Blessings on your travels....

    Pretty good on the video despite the technical problems. (Itchy Boots is on hiatus. Here's your chance!)
    Agree about.the noise. My '91 Kaw EL250 is.turning about 9 grand at 60. My CB 500x is much quieter and more relaxing as a.result

    8:05 you really need to use the rubber retainer that goes over the corners of your phone. The X-grip on its own is definitely not secure enough. Upgrade the Ram mount by swapping the X-grip for a Quad Lock adapter, or ditch the whole thing for a Tech Mount.

    The amount of gear you packed on that bike looks like your moving across country. I mean damn. Less is more. The ride is more enjoyable with a lighter setup.

    • @jamesgregory6903

      I don't have a specific link since there are so many to choose from, but I went to aliexpress.com and searched for "versys x 300 hand guards". There are a bunch that look like the Kawasaki ones for a fraction of the cost. Shipping will take forever, just a heads up.
      The panniers: www.revzilla.com/oem/kawasaki/kawasaki-99994-0993-kit-accessory-pannier?sku_id=1371158&srsltid=Ad5pg_FvjZ0q8_QbHy7-EY660rca6zihOvPgBDVJcTLXCct1irYpBkOCNI4
      For those, you're at the mercy of Kawasaki price gouging since I've never seen them for less than $400. You would be better off buying some aftermarket panniers that are affordable and have better capacity.

    hi bud, where did you get the hand guards? as you said, the kawa ones are way to expensive, i got a pair on line but they are not made for the versys, yours look great!

    • @jamesgregory6903
      @jamesgregory6903  Год назад +3

      I searched for "hand guards versys x300" on Aliexpress and they have quite a few X 300 knock off parts for dirt cheap on there. I picked the one that looks like the Kawasaki ones but aren't branded. Just a heads up for the hand guards, the instructions that come with them are near useless. It's mostly trial and error to install them.

      @@jamesgregory6903 cool, I'm looking for some Versys for sale. Is this a good beginner bike?
      Or should I go for a bigger bike cb500x or something like that?

    • @jamesgregory6903
      @jamesgregory6903  2 года назад +2

      I think the Versys 300 is an excellent beginner bike. Low seat, forgiving engine, big gas tank, ability to go highway speeds and go off road to name a few. I highly recommend it if you are the type of person that wants to do on and off road but bias towards on road. The CB500X is pretty similar to the Versys on paper specs wise. The only major differences I've noticed are the CB has a bigger engine and price tag. I like both, but I got the Versys because it was $1000 less than the CB. (at the time I bought my bike. Now I think the CB is close to 7,000 and the Versys is 6,200) Both are great and very similar to each other. It comes down to what you can afford and which you like better.

    Never ceases to amaze me how many people don’t use real GPS systems and rely on their phone. Then when they have no service they are lost.

      Phones have GPS receivers, you don’t need cell service to use it. You just need to make sure you have map data downloaded for offline use.
