Hey guys, sorry this one took long to release, been pretty busy with school lately. Anyways, finally finished another boss theme from Bravely Default! There's still one more I like to do :)
Usually I don't care for 8-Bit remakes of newer music, but I can't deny how fantastic this sounds!
Natalie Manahan Denys can deny it though
I love this remix! This one in particular gives Wicked Flight an overtly creepy vibe that is incredibly appropriate and works beautifully. Makes me sort of wish the original felt as creepy as this.
I blame (not in a bad way) the subtle vibrato on the high notes.
Just have to say, this is awesome. Usually, when I'm listening to a remix of a song, I'm thinking "this is nice and all, but it kind of just makes me want to listen to the original", especially when it comes to Bravely Default. This one, though, never made me feel that way. It's hard to explain, but it's like it has my favorite parts of the song while still having its own feel, if that makes any sense. Keep it up!
Hi, I'm from 2020, just here to remind you that, you know, AIRY LIES.
my question is : why do they trust airy if you do the vampire quest early ?
Airy is 2020
@@ildathet i think because you're able to do the vampire quests wheever you want
@@ildathet unfortunately this is a flaw in the bravely series...the side quests are not accurately aligned with the main quest. So some events are out of place, finding out a truth on a side quest doesnt change imediately the next interaction on main quest.
seeing the little title on the bottom right of the vid i can never unsee it now
spoilers below
F"lying" F"airy"
freaked me out when i first say it playing BD
Im confused I see it but what does it mean
@@ScottQ1
HUGE SPOILERS FOR BRAVELY DEFAULT DOWN BELOW, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
airy the fairy is evil thus if you take out the "F's" it reads "lying airy"
in the English version it says "where the fairy flies" instead of the Japanese version of "flying fairy" and if you get to a certain point of the game and boot it up the "where the fairy flies" turns to "airy lies"
Thanks dude much appreciation
As always, your work is just AMAZING. I love it :D
+LeoLuxo Well thank you :D
This one sounds great. I really like it :>
J.E.N.O.V.A.
jenova? why?
Federico Almiron In Final Fantasy 7, there was a theme for the several JENOVA based bosses in the game, and it sounds rather familiar to this in a few ways. Mainly the very beginning.
Jenova 2 fairy boogaloo
Bloody Davey Lmao it's true
L.Y.I.N.G A.I.R.Y
Love it as much as the original :D
+Badr Oyd Thanks!
This is amazing! :)
Good job, although I just wonder why everyone who does a cover of this song uses DPCM bass.
+TheMusikage Thanks!
and I did try putting the bass in other channels first but I felt like the DPCM bass sounded the cleanest. Plus, It gave me an extra channel to work with.
+TheMusikage That's because the OST score has a very loud bass which is better emulated by one of Sunsoft's sampled bass than the classic triangle bass.
However, i believe a 4 voice + no sample at all (potentially DPCM "popping" for rythm like in FF3) would be more faithful to square's NES sound design since BD is heavily inspired by FF.
*Spoilers*
When the F’s are removed from Flying Fairy. 😳
Could I please use this in a Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth mod? It's fantastic!
+Robin Goodfellow Go ahead! I would like credit though
Absolutely. :)
+AtomicMelodies also, just asking, is there any chance of ba'al theme soon? Maybe in honor of Bravely Second coming to the states? :)
Would love to see your take on Adelle's theme. Or Elvis' Special Attack theme
this could be a pokemon league theme
no
Could definitely be a Champion theme. One who specializes in bug and fire.
Champ theme or an evil team leader theme maybe
Dark and ghost champion will match better imo lol
Too bad End Layer will probably never come out in America.
+Ambiticus We can always hope
AtomicMelodies And force Starman.net to make a translation patch.
It's been announced for release in America. The only real question is how ridiculously long it will take to get here.
***** Isn't it like August though?
+Ambiticus At least in America comes good games, in Europe... well, just less games, stupid region block
This is the thing that makes burger kings mayonaise taste like churned cow semen.
Seriously.
What the literal fuck did I just read?
Your guess is as good as mine.
This sounds like Wicked Flight from Bravely Default. Am I correct in my assumption?
that's what it is
Do not know a troll comment when you see one?
+GROP GROP do you know a sarcastic comment when you see one?
+winnelle I know enough to know I know nothing.
@@emme6080 Your comment didn't feel very sarcastic.
the link is wrong.
+shadowincvides Sorry about that! Its working now.
+AtomicMelodies working now
this is chiptune, not 8-bit
This is running off the limitations of the konami VRC6 chip, Which was available for some NES games.
+AtomicMelodies Does that mean that if I were to somehow insert this song into a NES game cartridge that had that specific audio chip, the song would be able to play on the system?
John Frank it IS less complicated than Tim Follin's work, sooo...
@@johnfrank3575 Simple answer: Yes, but only on a _Famicom_ because the VRC6 chip wasn't available outside Japan.
Long answer:
The NES actually has a long and storied history of cartridges including extra hardware to perform certain tasks beyond the visibility of the console itself. Notably, as game sizes quickly outpaced the NES's ability to actually _use_ that memory space, companies developed a series of "memory mapper" chips that allowed NES games to set a value at a specific memory address to "switch" which region of cartridge space (ROM or RAM) was otherwise visible to the system, much like the EMS/XMS days of MS-DOS computers (which were limited to ~1MB of addressible memory at a time).
Some of these expansion chips also included audio hardware that could be mixed into the system's usual audio output, thus allowing more audio channels than the system was otherwise capable of. Konami's VRC6, for example, which added two pulse wave channels (with a wider range of available duty cycles / timbres) and a sawtooth wave channel. Nintendo's MMC5 chip added two more pulse wave channels (mostly identical to the baseline channels) and one extra DPCM channel.
BUT this is also where you start to find differences between the Famicom (in Japan) and NES (overseas). Crucially, Nintendo controlled virtually all manufacture of NES cartridges, so developers looking for an overseas (NES) release could only use Nintendo's own mapper chips (MMC1, 3, and 5) and not just build their own (as they did in Japan). Also notably, despite the MMC5 mapper chip including capability for two additional audio channels in Japan, these features were apparently disabled for Western releases using the MMC5 chip, otherwise late-era NES games like _Blaster Master_ and even _Super Mario Bros. 3_ could have had expanded audio (because they did, in fact, use MMC5 chips).
Ultimately, when analyzing a chiptune for authenticity to contemporary hardware, it is important to know if there existed expansion chips adding extra audio capabilities _to_ that hardware. The "VRC6" in this video's title should be a signal that this cover was written to take advantage of extra channels that some games did, _in fact,_ add to the NES's baseline capabilities.
