NOTES, CORRECTIONS, AND FOLLOW UP INFO: WRITTEN VERSION OF TIMELINE: www.tumblr.com/fordtato/721241687528177664/the-gravity-falls-timeline 1.) Mothra (1961) is a more accurate reference match for the Mothgar poster in the room, mentioned in chapter 3. Thank you to those who have pointed it out. ^_^ 2.) THE STAN O WAR THING MIGHT HAVE BEEN 1961, but I am not sure, and it is killing me. Upon looking closer, Stan says he was 10 when he started writing Lil Stanley comics. And I can not tell if this means that the Lil Stanley comics were BEFORE they found the Stan O War by a few years or if they found the Stan O War when they were 10. Looking very closely, the Stans look younger in that panel when Stan is drawing than the Stans do in the show, AND younger than the way the artist draws 12-yr-old Dipper and Mabel in that comic, and Stan appears to have one less front tooth and is wearing a different outfit than both of his other Young Stan appearances. But also, the mess in their room looks the same as when they find the Stan O War in ATOTS. BUT ALSO THE FURNITURE does NOT match the furniture in ATOTS, so it might be a different year actually? But also, Stan has a bandaid on his cheek, similar to ATOTS and The Jersey Devil Comic (but the bandaid *is* in a different placement in the JD comic, and we know Stan gets THAT injury by getting cut with glass when he breaks into the chain case, seemingly AFTER finding the Stan O War, so the bandaid on his cheek might be from a different injury in the Lil Stanley flashback.) But if it IS 1961, this would make the Lil Brucey quote make more sense. It would mean that the references to xmen and skimparella need to be treated similarly to the pop culture references in the Journal (We know when the X-Men came out, but not when the X-Cessive force came out.) I gotta think about it. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SHARPIE? ... Hana, you hack. 3.) I have not been able to confirm the validity of the tweet from Hirsch regarding Ford being dragged to a party with weed in college. I remembered seeing it, as had several friends of mine, but upon searching after this video was posted, we could NOT find the original tweet. I am not sure if the tweet was deleted or if it is a fake tweet, but I had a responsibility to verify this tweet before I included it in my video, and did not check as thoroughly as I should have. If it is fake, apologies. 4.) Thank you to everyone who has watched and commented so far.
@Hana Hyperfixates Okay so I'm at 57:15 and you are talking about how if the picture in the principal's office is Nixon or if it's the other guy who ran just before him. And then I remembered something, in Headhunters there was a wax Nixion statue that looks just like the picture! I don't know if you point this out later, so sorry if you did already! Sorry this is such a weird tangent, but I thought I'd point it out.
@@jinnie4271 yeah, my tangent on whether or not it's Nixon or Johnson was really based on a late- night realization that they look similar-ish and my subsequent worries. Honestly, it's pretty obviously Nixon, but I kept the Nixon-Johnson tangent mostly because I thought it was funny that I was so worried about it to begin with. Those late-night film sessions will mess with your brain lol
I am now headcanoning that stan has no idea what age he is. Hes lied about it plenty, and it just doesnt seem like something hed care about. Ford on the other hand ...
@guggelguggel7491 true, true Although he does seem like the kind of person who would think it's fun to try and calculate his age with dimensional travel taken into account. I also wouldn't put it past him to get frustrated with it and give up though
@@melonyrobinson9944he would but also he probably has his birthday memorized down to the minute (I do personally) so even if he couldn't account for dimensional travel, he could recalculate once he returned to Earth.
After ford got pushed through Stan kinda just fell apart, omg imagine if its not a secret depressing birthday for Stan,he doesn’t think he deserves a birthday, it’s for Ford
I'm just imagining Ford, slowly slipping in to madness, being all "fine Fiddleford! go back to your loving family! In fact, it's great you're gone, I can finally listen to my music instead of fucking bluegrass!" ~turns on the eurythmics~
Sorry I’m commenting a year later to say this is the funniest thing I’ve read all day. It’s midnight and I’m holding in my laughter so much right now. This is 100% canon to me.
I always took “debate politics with Reagan” to mean Ford disagreed with Reagan’s policies enough that there would be something to debate. And unlike most people, he also just seems like the kind of person who would actually enjoy arguing politics
Fords probably been around so long, he sees all sides of every argument and just argues for the sake of it. I like to think sometimes he switches sides mid convo
Wait if he created the mind control tie for someone to control Reagan did he mean "debate politics with Reagan" as using Reagan to debate politics? That feels like a very Gravity Falls interpretation, Ford seems like the kind of guy with few enough morals to think that would be fun
For me, what clinched this interpretation was Hana mentioning in that segment the way that Reagan was generally regarded by scientists, and the way he tended to defund science research. I think Ford would have been as pissed off at him over that as many other scientists were, and I could kind of see Ford wanting to debate with him about those policies (i.e. tell him how stupid it is to defund medical and climate research, and alternative energy research, for example).
I'm only an hour into this ten to thirteen minute timeline video and the idea of telling teenagers they can't get pregnant because it will mess up the timeline is very funny to me
1:32:54 I was always under the impression that Bill wrote that mushy shit about himself while possessing Ford as a big fuck you to the guy and Ford scribbled it out when he woke up. Bill is petty enough to do that.
This is why you date your journal entries. Just Just Incase you're actually part of a cartoon and some poor kid is going insane trying to figure out what your birthday is
I feel like the reason stuff could be written out of order in the journals is because in the moment while out on the feild, Ford just opened to a blank page and went for it. Could even be that he was working on the journals partly at the same time, just grabbing a book before running after something and added the whole 1 2 3 thing later for dramatics
and it adds to the fact that dipper and mabel’s parents are possibly going through marital issues because most relationships started in pre-teen/teen years split up. especially after marriage if they haven’t broken up yet
Exact same thing happened to me! I was vaguely wondering what the timeline was with Hana's interview with him and if that could've been an intentional bit of yanking their chain a bit while writing the book since I'm pretty sure the Sweet Dreams bit came up in the interview😅
The Ice Ice Baby code could have been written by 2013 Ford. Considering he missed the 90s, it would make sense that he’s consuming media he missed. Maybe he liked the song and wrote it down somewhere in the journal while looking back through it.
Unfortunately, it appears in the episode Into the Bunker, before Ford returns. But considering pages of the journal in the show aren't completely canon, that might be possible. Though I wouldn't put it past him to like the song lol
To be completely honest that idea is probably the most correct and plausible but in my mind it's now canon that Bill Cipher wrote Ice Ice Baby because of course he would. Why not?
The "debate politics with Reagan" part really shows Ford's shallow idea of fame. My guy seriously thinks that by publishing the research EVERYONE is gonna love him (from a distance, because Ford loves the idea of being admired without needing to form connections) and he'll get to hang out with every famous person there is.
I hear you, but, alternatively -- look at who was one of the major figures Ford admired, Carl Sagan. Carl Sagan was absolutely a hugely respected scientist. But even before 1980, he had also become a hugely famous science communicator for popular culture. Cosmos is just where he REALLY blew up big. (Hana doesn't mention it, but for Ford to have had a Carl Sagan poster on his college dorm wall in the early 70s, he would have had to be following Sagan's career before Sagan became such a household name. However, Sagan WAS already known in scientific circles, and there's another interesting parallel that makes Ford's admiration of him make sense: Carl Sagan was a Jewish scientist originally from Brooklyn, NY; which is close enough to northern NJ where Ford grew up.). Anyway, my point here is that Ford may not just be thinking about how famous scientists can become; he may be thinking in terms of how he could be both a renowned scientist and a science communicator like Sagan. How he could do for anomalies and interdimensional travel what Sagan did with Cosmos, and bring this knowledge to the masses. That would absolutely make him famous enough to rub shoulders with famous people and get invited to the White House. (Now: did Ford, at that age, really have the chops to be a good science communicator on Sagan's level? i.e. could we see Ford writing and hosting a Cosmos-like show for cryptids and dimensional weirdness? Ehhhnnnn; I'm as big a Ford fan as Hana is, but I can admit I'm not sure that younger Ford would have been as good on TV. I'm not even sure older Ford would. Still, I think that might be what Ford was thinking when he said that.) I wrote up longer thoughts about Ford's attachment to Tesla, and to Sagan, back in 2016, here: www.tumblr.com/eregyrn-falls/149422460228/ford-tesla-and-sagan?source=share
After Book of Bill. Bill having a thing for Monty Python and living in medieval ages just for fun. Yeah I believe that he wrote Ice Ice Baby before it’s time or listen to it and told Ford about that song.
I’m only partially through the video- I’m up to the part where you get “possessed by Bill.” Absolutely love it. Do you get trapped in a box?!? This is so creative.
I genuinely gasped out loud when you said “sweet dreams.” You did such a good job as a writer - even in this context, which isn’t really a fictional story - of bringing the watcher through so many different emotional journeys. I loved this, will rewatch it in the future, and feel so spoiled by all the secret codes and extra effort you put into this video.
@@mikripetra9704thank you so much! The "inside a shed possessed by Bill" scene was my favorite to film and I had a blast. I'm still pretty new to RUclips but I'm glad to be trying all this stuff out.
I like to imagine Bill just really likes Ice Ice Baby and being an all knowing being knows it throughout all his life. Hums it once in front of Stan and he writes it in code not knowing any of the rest of the song and thinking it may be important.
When they said "would someone really gush like that just to scribble it out dramatically?" all I could think was, when fighting a Gremloblin, use water . . . ONLY as a last resort, as water will make it much, MUCH scarier!
10/10 video, I love Gravity Falls' inconsistent but relatively working timeline :') ...Though the Journal forgetting Soos' birthday was on July 13th is going to bug me forever! I forgot about that until you mentioned it and I was like "NOOO.....NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" in agony. God DAMMIT Hirsch!!!! I fully believe Ford Would have listened to Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This on loop finishing up the portal. He has that energy.
I always figured the journal changing Soos’ birthday was an intentional retcon (for once) because they realized that it’d be way too hard to cram all of season one, the shorts, and every preceding season two episode into June and early July, plus Sock Opera includes an unspecified 13th in its timespan and July 13th would make more sense with that episode’s placement than June or August
Normally I'd be a bit suspicious of someone trying to put together a timeline not being able to tell the difference between a two years ago and four years ago... but I think we all are having difficulty registering that we're three years on from early 2020.
i actually cheered when you brought the whole timeline together with the eurythmics bit. your dedication to this timeline is SO admirable. looking forward to all of your future projects!!
Shout out to every post-it note that fell- the true MVPS of this video XD Amazing work. Not only among the best GF timelines I've ever seen explained, but also the funniest and best produced. You did a spectacular job, well done!
“now, I know what you’re thinking. Hana, this is crazy-“ Hana we are 2 hours in to watching you dissect the timeline of a cartoon from 2012. I am not about to throw stones in a glass house
To those curious about the code at the end in blue letters who might not want to slowly go through it all, it reads "Two codes, but where are the keys? One in the black light, one in eighty three" I'm really curious to look into this but don't currently have the time so if anyone knows more than I do please lmk!
the 83 key is the eurythmics, cause at 2:32:17 you can see a key post-it above it. Also it's the key to putting the timeline right, haha. Also one of the codes is probably at 2:04:34 I think that this is the other code at 10:53 don't know about the second key though i like finding stuff, but i don't know how to crack codes very well. but that's all i found, i don't really know what to do with it or if it's right
first code key: KH LV FRPLQJ decodes to: HE IS COMING next to the BILL IS WATCHING (decoded from ELOO LV ZDWFKLQJ) on the blacklight wall during chapter one, we see "dae vqh". using the key HEISCOMING in a vigenere decoder, i got "www dot". in chapters 4-7 we see the code "gvsgtmta" and i dont yet know what that decodes to. around 2:04:33 we se "PW: al mw grrvouvi" and "Texq'p qeb pbzlka HBV?" the second of which decodes to "What's the second KEY?" and the first of which.... decodes (if you treat PW as separate) to.... "he is matching". whether this is a typo and it's supposed to be he is Watching, or if thats what it actually is, i have no idea. 2:32:18 - hana says "The Eurythmics was the key!" and there is a blue post-it of a key right above the post-it that says "The Eurythmics". on the fridge at 2:34:28 we see "rab gatftj fcf kbs", as of yet i don't know what it decodes to. im very tired so im going to bed, and i copypasted this to my own comment (so you dont have to deal with notif spam) so dont respond to this one, but i wanted to let you know im working on it
whats truly more important: canon details shown explicitly in the show that set clear timeline details or THE EURYTHMICS BABY THE EURYTHMICS seriously i love all your videos im going back to binge them now that the gravity falls fixation is back lol
Can’t believe i just watched 2 and half hours of someone slowly loosing their mind… it was great! Srsly i love the amount of work you put into the sets and transition scenes, the bag of ‘powdered sugar’ at 1:21:52 actually made me laugh out loud
im a year late to this video but my first thought about the memory gun is: he could have made it but not used it. we dont know what he saw, so it may have been something smaller, and personal - just enough to leave him in a panic but then after completing it maybe used it to only hide that one single memory or just talked himself out of using it. but then come the portal, thats too big and too much. so either finallt uses it for the first time or the second time. either way this is so wildly satisfying a timeline and incredible
Also... its a memory gun. He could have forgotten that he used it, later realized that he'd miscalibrated and lost too much memory, and then committed to recording any further uses afterwards.
We do know that Fiddleford used the memory gun prior to leaving the project. (We also know, from the blacklight journal, that he used it, possibly multiple times, on Ford. But it's also specified that Fiddleford uses it on the lumberjacks who help them build the Bunker, so that the lumberjacks will forget about the Bunker; and Ford is disapproving of that.). However, I think you're still on the right track here -- Hana doesn't mention this, but almost the first thing Fiddleford says in that video on "DAY 1" is "I decided to quit the project". To me, that makes it seem like he started the video only after he quit the project; and that for the sake of simplicity in the video, he chooses to just make it seem like he only just now made the memory gun, even though he made it the previous year and has been using it (less often). For me, it sort of makes sense that he's operating as a scientist who is bending the truth a little bit, for the sake of a neater narrative. I mean, like -- as we saw in the Robbie memories, there's nothing intrinsic to the memory gun that compels people to tell the truth. When Fiddleford was using it in those early parts of the video, he had nobody else to call him out if he was fudging the truth a little -- and he's only fudging the truth by claiming "I think I've made a device...", when the truth is that he already knew the device worked. What happened to the memory tube/videos of his earlier uses of it, on himself, Ford, or others? Well, who knows. Maybe he kept those somewhere else. Maybe they're somewhere in the piles in the Hall of the Forgotten. Maybe even he doesn't remember. I do also think it's possible that, depending on what he erased prior to that "DAY 1" start of the video, yeah, he might not remember exactly WHEN he created the memory gun, or what he remembered before. (I mean, if he makes it for the Gremloblin incident, and he successfully erased that memory, then he cannot exactly date its creation to the incident he can no longer remember, right?) 74 days is, of course, about 2 and a half months. In the video, it says he created the SOTBE on DAY 22. So that all works. He begins this particular memory tube right after he leaves the project (because he now has something *much bigger* to forget than what he'd used it for before). 22 days later he creates the SOTBE. That still leaves time for Ford to encounter red-robed SOTBE cultists in town, prior to Ford disappearing through the portal.
It does seem like fun, but I can't think of anything that I would add that hasn't been covered by others. But I do have a few other Gravity Falls ides to ruminate on. Thank you!
I don’t comment a lot but your content genuinely fills me with so much joy, gravity falls was my first media related special interest and whilst it’s still around I find it fades in and out but these videos have brought it back with a vengeance both times. Your sense of humour made me actually laugh out loud at times and the presentation is stunning and really welcoming in a homey way. I look forward to anything you make in future, gravity falls or not.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos - I have a few more in the pipeline (actually set to come out this month) and it means so much that they bring joy to others - it makes me more excited to release the projects I've been working on! Thanks for listening to me go on about these old geezers ^_^
Stan said he wrote his comic at age 10, and he and Ford look the same as other flashbacks. Along with Soos' birthday, there's also Saturday of NWHS directly followed by DD&D on lazy Tuesday. And the portal activating 18 hours after 5am must be no later than 11pm but it's still not dark out. I also tried determining the chances of Eda being Marilyn, though things started flopping around revealing she mid-40s, and got earth access as a teen, on the other side of the country. Yeah, TOH's timeline is feeling really screwy on concrete dates.
I reread the comics last night and saw the "when I was 10" line, and I'm already working on a "Things I got wrong" follow-up video. I DO think that this might mean they found the Stan O War in 1961, then, and it would make the Lil Brucey thing make more sense. (Though it is possible that he started the comics before he found the Stan O War, but the state of the mess rooms being identical to the series makes me doubt that, THOUGH, they do have a different furniture arrangement, upon closer inspection .) But also they look a little younger, and Stan seems to be missing a tooth? so maybe they're 10 when he draws the comics, but 13 in the show? The jury is out, but it's going in my "corrections" short video.
Yeah, I think Eda is definitely younger than Stan (TOH definitely takes place after Gravity Falls, just looking at the technology, and Eda is 40smth during TOH while Stan is 60smth during Gravity Falls) but that still doesn't mean she can't have been Marilyn, because we don't know when the Vegas marriage happened. Eda had the portal to Earth for several years and I imagine she'd spent a lot more time on Earth after breaking up with Raine
@@sofig1237 I always figured the Vegas marriage to Marilyn happened before Stan came to Gravity Falls. But, you know what -- I don't think there's anything verifying that. So sure, it COULD have happened at any point prior to the year 2000, I guess?
What if Fiddleford made the video logs after the portal test? It’s after he leaves that Ford starts to notice all the Blind Eye symbolism appearing. I might be wrong, but I think I remember in Journal 3, Ford mentions that after Fiddleford left, the memory gun also disappeared. We know he saw… terrible things… in the portal, that might have been the incident that led him to start really testing on himself. It would be a bit of a retcon from “Society of the Blind Eye” but at least then, he would actually be (more) right when he said he’d been with Ford for a year.
That actually makes a lot of sense, and I am considering including that in my written version of the timeline - the only issue is that Fiddleford calls himself "Test Subject 1 - Fiddleford" when he shoots himself with the memory gun, and we know he's used it several times before then (on people he hired for construction, etc/ on Ford), and has even begun talking to Ivan, etc. BUT he likely wouldn't want to divulge that on tape, so perhaps he lied on his official records? I'll have to think about that!
@@hanahyperfixates I'm not sure how the video logs (created by the memory gun, but not from its POV?) or the dates on them (the last one is "Day ???") really work, anyway.
@@jvgreendarmok I'm just not sure what else the numbers would indicate if not the number of days since the first log, but i suppose it is hard to be sure. I really wish the show had committed to dates, you know, but i assume they wanted to avoid them?
@@hanahyperfixates Oh, yeah, that's definitely what they refer to, but since we don't know how the dates are added to the "logs", it might be possible, if necessary, to say that they are not entirely accurate, as a result of Fiddleford's declining mental state and/or the Society of the Blind Eye not being sure when they were recorded.
@@hanahyperfixates Hana, I commented above, but -- this IS what he says in the video. "DAY 1: I decided to quite the project". Sure, why does he talk like he only just made the memory gun? (Because Alex etc. hadn't decided to retcon that yet.). Well... yeah, I think we could theorize that either he's sort of lying to himself there. Or, that basically, he's erased all of that prior to starting this new video. I mean, he creates it for the Gremloblin incident... and erases that. So of course he can't date the creation of it back to that -- he doesn't remember that incident at all. By this point, it seems very likely that he felt bad about using it on Ford and the lumberjacks, so he just erased that too. So perhaps, to him, as he's starting this new vlog, it "must be" the first time. He can't remember the others, and even the details of creating the gun are fuzzy (which is why he just "thinks" he's made a device that will erase memories). I also wanted to point out: if the portal test is 1/18, and he starts this vlog on 1/19, that would put the creation of the SOTBE on DAY 22 as 2/09. That's good, because we know Ford saw red-robed SOTBE cultists in town, and that's still within the time period when he could have done so. But since this is post-portal-test, DAY 74 really no longer matters to us. Ford doesn't see Fiddleford after that, so how much of his mind Fiddleford has lost during that period in the spring doesn't affect the timeline of Ford going through the portal in late Feb. 1983.
my cat Ringo was incredibly invested in this video and kept pawing at your face, you've got his seal of approval incredible work by the way! the outfits and set design are insanely awesome
Was gonna skip out on the video, not huge into timelines, then I saw who posted it, thought to myself, “wow they made the best video I have ever seen on youtube” and then decided to invest three hours of my chaotic life into watch this one. No pressure!!
Stan eyebrow theory: he plucked them on a bet or something and that's why they're randomly thin at one point. I think this would be in character, and also, funny.
Watching this video and hearing you talk about Ford's paranoid era and how we don't get much of it, in a post-Book of Bill world is deeply fascinating to me. Really hoping to get some kind of video talking about the book as a whole from you
This video was INCREDIBLE. I 1000% appreciate the defense of the Tad Strange Theory(I was a demon tad enthusiast when it was happening) and as always I LOVE the amount of effort you put in. I also wish you the best of luck in taking things easy and whatever future topics you have on the docket are ones I’ll be sure to check out!
I saw WTNV live last year. Cecil Baldwin is fantastic at physical comedy, to the point that it being a podcast is a downright shame. Still one of the coolest experiences l had that year. (I bought my original tickets 3 years ago, thanks pandemic.)
For the Reagan bit, it could be that in the Gravity Falls universe, Reagan is actually somewhat smart / interesting. There's been a precedent in the show of the US government just kind of doing whatever they want when it comes to US presidents (Quentin Trembley), perhaps they used Ford's tie in order to make Reagan a puppet rather than the possibly capable politician he could have been. That way Ford could have wanted to debate him because he knows what Reagan was actually like? Idk, just a possible explanation I thought of. EDIT: And we could also say that Reagan was hypothetically a good person in this universe, but turned into who we know him as through mind control. Making it so Ford doesn't like Reagan in the sense that we might think, but rather imaginary cool gay left-leaning Reagan.
I relate to you a lot on the Tad Strange Intermission. Not with this specific case but in other fandoms like Zim and whatever. At least a bunch of the other creators understand they shouldn't be making fun of the fanbase that's GIVING THEM MONEY! People would ask Jhonen Vasquez questions about what he hated about the fanbase and he'd refuse to answer and honestly I think that's the best thing! Sigh. Edit: I wrote this very late at night so it's poorly phrased, what I meant was less with the monetary transaction between fans and creators and more about how humiliating it would be to spend money going to a con to see your favorite creator, and then they openly mock your ideas on stage. Can you imagine how embarrassing and hurtful that might be? Why would any creator think that's okay to do to their fans?
Yes, exactly! Like, it's hard to get unanswerable questions (especially after trying so hard to keep the timeline consistent), but that doesn't change the fact that he mocked his fans *to their faces*. If I were in that crowd, I would have felt so stupid. Alex made a show we were supposed to analyze, but apparently the fans went too far by,,, creating a character from the little material they had? That's a really odd place to draw the line. Overall, it was an incredibly mean response. Jhonen's fan-creator boundaries have always stood out to me. He isn't afraid to disappoint fans, which, let's be real, is the worst-case scenario of not answering. That got him through some rough Q&A panels. Not to shade Alex too hard, but we love a man who knows when to stay quiet.
I feel like the the monetary transaction between fans and creators is a weird thing to focus on. Like it implies that if the show was free and had no merchandise/the creator didn’t need money that making fun of fans would be alright. That said I’m also tired of people being called “crazy fans” when they’re expressing genuine love and passion for something just because it’s not socially acceptable.
@@TJ_Sauce Right! That would've been humiliating D: I get being frustrated or not getting it, he's under no obligation to, but to mock them? Imagine how embarrassed and hurt some people in that audience were. Yeah I've looked at a LOT of jhonen interviews- got a ton in a playlist on my channel. I think he's a pretty funny guy that isn't afraid to disappoint fans but even when he doesn't really like what they're doing he doesn't mock them on stage (even when they were CLEARLY acting out of line)
@@mimipeahes5848 yeah I agree it was a weird thing to focus on, I wrote it really late at night. What I meant was more along the lines of humiliating your fanbase in front of your fanbase is a poor move. I might edit the comment to reflect that
I could be wrong about this, but I thought the moth monster poster was a Mothra (1961) reference. I don't remember if 1961 fits within the correct timeframe for the items in the room, though. Anyways, you really knocked this video out of the park! Can't wait to see what other topics you'll cover in the future.
Wow. As an also over-obsessive/overthinking Gravity Falls fan, you went all out with this. The amount of work it must have taken for the historical research is unfathomable. Excellent job on this!!! Though, I’ll be honest, the show taking place in 2013 feels… wrong to me. Like, I know that it’s just as likely, based on the conflicting evidence, as 2012, but it just feels… out of place. Idk, but regardless, great job with everything. Wklv zdv ixq wr wklqn derxw!
Honestly, if this video taught me anything, it's that it's hard to be sure about anything, including 2012 vs 2013 (though the 1961 or 1964 date was the toughest to crack, for me, and still my biggest back-and-forth). Wkdqn brx iru zdwfklqj!
you: no piece of art is meant to be looked at with a magnifying glass me, about to prove you wrong: makes an excel spreadsheet for the timeline of my own stories
Another thing you didn't point out that bugged me off when I discovered it is the post-weirdmageddon pages: Dipper says he found the Journals in the wood on August 25th but this can't be! So "dipper and Mabel VS The Future" is A WEEK before the twins birthday, so if you do 31-7=24.and the episode ends(and so Weirdmageddon starts) thenight of August 24th. Then in Weirdmageddon 1 there is a timeskip pf three days so we are OVER August 25th, now it's the 27th. Then we know that weirdmageddon lasted AT LEAST 4 or 5 days!! So what? There was like a time reset? did bill mess up with time after defeating time baby? IDK!
Doesn’t bill freeze time at the beginning of weirdmageddon? He says “time is dead and meaning has no meaning” so I assume time is frozen during weirdmageddon and when bill is defeated, it’s still the 24th.
@@Jewls2 yeah, and since Journal 3 says it takes about a week to recover Stan’s memories, that would mean his mind is restored by their birthday a week later - which it is. So it all falls into place.
@@Jewls2 Yeah, it's journal (and comic) canon that Weirdmageddon didn't "really" happen timelinewise. What's the more confusing bit is why, if that's the case, it's daytime out when Weirdmageddon is reversed when it started in the evening. The best I can think of there is that Bill implies he didn't have full control over time until he killed Time Baby, so there was a night's worth of non-frozen time between Weirdmageddon starting and Time Baby getting killed?
You're so right about the Tad Strange theories, like what the hell do you expect is going to happen when these kinds of crumbs are dropped to a community thats fostered this kind of wild theorizing? And ultimately I don't even care if it was ever right or not, I care that people had so much fun with it! It even led to a whole AU where eveeyone had a lil one eyed shape guy following them around and it was so cool to see people being creative with it! (Also I've always been irrationally pissy about Alex saying he was purple because its the opposite of yellow, no he was NIGHTVALE PURLPLE)
My headcanon is that the memory reel of McGucket that we see is recorded after the portal incident (since he said that he had quit the project) but that was when he invented a new version of the memory that was more effective (he emphasized "permanently") and that for the same reason affect the brain aggressively and dangerously. I believe memories erased with the old gun that he invented after the Gremoblin incident would eventually come back on their own without visual aids - like how Ford in one of the blacklight pages describes how his memories have come back - and didn't cause neurological damages with repeated use, since we don't see that with Ford and Fiddleford in that period. Tbh I came up with that theory after mistakenly thinking I had identified discrepancies between the gun schematics in the journal and between the show, which I just checked again and they aren't really there. Though now I've noticed that in the journal it is said to blast "a wave of radiation" and not the lightning beam we see with later iterations. But on the other hand, on the aforementioned blacklight page, there does appear to be a flash, so it is actually established that the 'former' one also caused a flash somehow. Well, even if they look and maybe work (mostly) the same way, I still think it fits if "anal-retentive" Fiddlefore (Ford's words, not mine) treats some tweaks he made to an existing prototype with the same hubbubb than a genuine new invention, especially because the changes would have been so important to him. He whose aim was to forget traumatic events couldn't deal with not having succeeded preciously in preventing them from coming back, likely causing him to relive them like the first time (and that over and over again).
As other people have pointed out, the bill cipher page discrepancy could have just been because ford opened a random page and started writing, but i think its interesting to note that in the real life journal 3, the bill cipher page is *exactly in the middle of the book* (or at least very close to it, im not 100% sure) which i think is cool when you think about how, when ford assumedly wrote it, bill was the centre of his attention, the sun in his solar system.
it took me forever to finally get around to watching this video and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. fantastic as last time, and i loved the transitions with the gradual increased frenzy and codes before the conclusion shows you wiping it all away, which i thought was super neat and poetic and whatnot. and the thing with running out of space on the corkboard and the shed. (the implication that you made a deal with bill to have more filming space is both genius and really funny). questions were answered, good times were had. sorry if this makes no sense im struggling to find words other than "i really really enjoyed this thing". also i hope you end every video from now on with something related to sweet dreams are made of this /hj
Thank you so much for watching, and for all the kind words. I'm definitely proud of this one. Even if I don't mention Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This in the next video, I promise it's there in spirit.
somebody has probably already said this but with the kissing robot stan says “it was basically…with a rubix cube for a mouth” so i think it’s most likely that he is making a comparison here using a product that he knows of at the time of the commentary, so he isn’t saying that the mouth was literally a rubix cube, he’s just using that as a descriptor looking back on it.
I think that Shermie had to be a baby because an older Shermie complicated Stan & Ford's relationship. Shermie being a baby means that Stan & Ford don't really have a relationship with him, thus explaining why he's almost never mentioned.
@@gracekim1998yea thats what i thought. maybe he had a kid *right* before being drafted? not sure. but again, shermie being the baby is interesting too ngl
For me, it kind of works if Shermie is a LOT older than the Stans. Like, say Shermie is 15 years older than they are. By the time Shermie is 18 and able to leave the house (perhaps already enlisting in the military), they are only 3. They would have effectively grown up without him, barely knowing him; and if he was in the military, or for example had already moved out to California, they would not really see him much, either. But when they did, he's really kind of just this older relative, not someone who has been a daily part of their lives for the period they can remember best. That would leave them truly having nobody else but each other. (Another possibility: Shermie is Filbrick's son from an earlier marriage? That way Shermie still bears the Pines surname, but is likely much older than the Stans, and didn't live with them while they were growing up.) To be clear: the baby was absolutely meant to be Shermie. It's just that, I feel that gives fans the choice whether to run with that idea (and I've seen some good fanfics that DO address the "multiple teen pregnancies" idea), or to come up with an "older Shermie" theory, according to their taste. I personally like the "older Shermie" theory, because when I was growing up in the 70s, my brother was 10 years older than me. If he had left home for college, he would have left when I was 7. As it was, he stayed and lived at home for college, and got married at 21, when I was 11. For all of my youngest childhood, my brother felt less like a sibling to me and more like... an older babysitter? And in that way of little kids, he began to seem more "adult" to me once he reached his teens. Furthermore, my maternal grandmother had siblings who were, no lie, 19 years older than she was. So this is why, to me, this seems like a perfectly normal possibility.
Halfway through here, but on the topic of Ford misremembering TTRPGs that he played and the weird copywrite date there I think are three equally understandable explanations (that aren't just the writers making an oopsie whoopsie). First and most likely, he doesn't literally mean Stanley mocked him for specifically the D&D analog. It's likely just him referring to all the versions as one game, the same way people today classify D&D 3.5, 5 PF, PF2E as one game with different rules between each version. The second is that the game he cited was copywritten in 1974, but he played an open source more word of mouth loosely defined version of it previously. It doesn't line up with reality but neither does 90% of the show. The third point is just that he misremebered the copywrite year, and/or wrote the last one he remembered seeing which could have been an updated copywrite year. Which I believe is more plausible than him forgetting which game he played. I mean the real reason is that's the year the real game came out, and the writers didn't think about the timeliness. A shocking revelation, I know
ive listened to this video.... alot. of times. but when i first opened that description box and saw that youre fordtato on tumblr it was like a second author reveal for me for a sec😭 thank you for the countless hours of neurodivergent joy you have brought me over the years. i was almost able to recite that tumblr timeline at one point.
I was thinking D, D & more D had another name before 1974 and rebranded during that year. They did it in the 90s and became "Diggity Dungeons and All That" before rebranding back to the name we know it as, so maybe it was just something the game did sometimes. I mean Dipper did say they change the art style every few years, too
I find it absolutely hilarious that you say “let’s start with ford and Stan in 1960 something “ and immediately get cut to a trailer for a movie about the year 1969, excellent timing on RUclips’s part
2:08:34 as a lifetime Oregon resident, winter here is crazy. I live on the coast, and last winter we had 3 inches of ice but no snow, at the same time my family (near Salem) had about 4 inches of snow, though it had rained all winter up till then, and my grandpa in southern oregon had about 2 feet of snow. gravity falls is shown to be in the woods in the more southern part of oregon (where my grandpa lives) so a blizzard-especially in February, winter tends to come late here-isn't out of the question
This is such a fun video! It was a great watch! :) I just wanted to say my little theory about how the "kissing robot with a Rubik's cube mouth" comment from Stan could fit into the timeline! My thought was just that, it was a simple way for Stan to explain what Ford's robot looked like to someone who had never seen it. Maybe it wasn't an actual on brank Rubik's cube for the mouth, but rather a complex jumble of electronic parts that ended up kinda resembling a Rubik's cube in hind sight? That's my little headcanon anyways!
Ahh this video is so perfect! I honestly love how your videos have "story", like the time at the end when you mentioned Sweet dreams, I almost screamed by the realisation - I remembered that you mentioned Sweet dreams in the last video and- oh my god I just love your work so much. It brings me so much joy that I'm getting that 2012-2016 gravity falls fandom feeling. The feeling when it all comes together. Plus the video is over all very well made- that invisible ink part? Hello, this looks epic! Am I watching cartoon theory on RUclips or action mysterious movie?? Thank you for your work!!
I LOVED this video! You're so funny and everything is so well-researched. Some things you talked about made me feel so vindicated, and others were totally mind-blowing-- I had never thought of them before. The bit with the Jewish calendar is absolute chef's kiss. And the thing about how J3 has August and July out of order? I never even noticed that! Just an excellent video with so MUCH in it.
YAAAHOOOOO I WAS SO EXCITED FOR YOUR NEXT UPLOAD AND THIS DIDN'T DISAPPOINT!!! its mad how much time you spend in this fandom but i live for it you are so based for it (PLEASE DO NOT BURN YOURSELF OUT THOUGH!!!). banger vid, keep it up!!
I’ve binged watched all of your videos in the past two days because I love them so much, even though I’ve already watched most of them before, and I was shocked to learn in this video that you started relatively recently. I’ve never really been in the fandom properly, but I love this show and I love how much you care about this show too, and I love learning more about it from you.
I loved how the plot kept thickening like with the Calendar and Nixon, even giving a whole nother reason for Ford to be mad because of the time they lived in. Pug trafficking turning into dr*g trafficking. And last but not least: A fcking synth pop song tying it all together. Never would have expected that. I know much of your hard research wasn't the writers intention but that's okay. It was fun. And it did come full end in unexpected ways. Enjoyable until the last second
@@hanahyperfixates If anything I have to thank you. Usually I just stop in the middle of these types of videos because they are too long and I get bored(I have ADHD too). And the little messages for which you have to pause to read them and the codes themselves. You already know how to make a video interesting even though you only posted two videos so far

The retcon of the memory gun being made because of the Gremoblin thing really was the straw that broke the camel's timeline, like, there wasn't really any reason they had to do that. They clearly meant from the start for the portal to be what drives Fiddleford to madness, and it matched up perfectly with the timeline, i have no idea why they decided they had to retcon it to be made earlier.
@@sackfu7952 actually in my interview with Alex (its on my channel) I asked him about it and he gave an answer that made sense from a writer's perspective.
This is an amazing video! I'm too dyslexic to understand all the dates but I still appreciate the effort and personality in this video :D. I will most likely come back to this video to watch it over and over again
another amazing video!! the way you managed to crack it in such a satisfying way, only for it to end with that blatant error was peak comedy lol and god you’re right about that fucking baby haunting every gravity falls theorist. i remember after the episode aired I was still trying to cling to grunkle4grandpa and the idea that it was dipper and Mabel’s parent and also stan and carla’s kid bc it just didn’t make sense for it to be shermie, and Carla has the same style of curls as Mabel. all the G4G theorists I followed were just like “WHO?!” when stan just casually namedropped shermie after going the whole series without even mentioning their grandparents, we were in denial for a bit 😭
I was lurking in the G4G tags for a while after the reveal like "oh man are they okay?" Soon that sentiment became "oh they're fine. Mostly because they're still in denial. Respect." But I feel your pain. I was holding on to Mystery Trio until Alex struck that down after the finale. (also, sorry I targeted g4g for a joke in this
I like how Hana included "Who is the baby?" in the thumbnail, clearly knowing that it's the first question on anyone's mind when it comes to a Gravity Falls timeline. (Much like TheRealJims knew that the first question on anyone's mind when it comes to the layout of the Simpsons' house is the rarely seen Rumpus Room behind the garage)
Alright, I'm back to decipher some stuff. The chapter title "Wkh Zulwlqj Rq Wkh Zdoo (Theme Song)" uses a Caesar cipher (all letters are shifted over a certain number of spaces, in this case, three). When shifted back, "Wkh Zulwlqj Rq Wkh Zdoo" translates to "The Writing On The Wall."
2:04:33 has a couple of codes. The only one I can decipher right now is "Texq'p qeb pbzlka HBV?" When run through another Caesar cipher, it reads" What's the second KEY?" I presume this means that "KEY" is the code for a Vigenere or potentially Slidefair cipher. I tried both for the other code (PW almw grrvouvi) on the screen at the time, but didn't get any results. So, we're going to have to do this out of order.
@@Patch-lz9yi Idk if you noticed but in the video credits some word are marked in blue and this put togheter make the phrase:"Two codes but where are the keys? One in the blaclight one in eightythree"
The blue text at the end spells out, "Two codes, but where are the keys? One in the black light, one in eighty-three." (Punctuation not initially present because my mind won't let me type it out without punctuation.) I believe the one I found at 2:04:33 is the one in the black light. I know there are a few codes in the video, but I need to grab dinner, so I'm leaving it here for now.
@@Patch-lz9yi saw another code at 2:34:29 which i believe is rab gatfti fcf kbs but it doesnt fit the cipher for "what's the second key" so ur def right its not a cipher
ALSO on hana's tumblr, fordtato, there is code in their announcement post for this video which translates from "D sxccolqj frgh, L krsh wklv pdnhv lw ehwwhu: Ilqg doo wkh slhfhv dqg sxw wkhp wrjhwkhu." to "A puzzling code, I hope this makes it better: Find all the pieces and put them together." maybe the key for the vigenere is split up and hidden in the black light and in eighty three (?) and we have to find the two halves and combine them to make a key thatll solve the unbreakble codes?? i may be wrong lol im not the greatest at code solving
Watching again because of the codes. One of the chapters has code. It translates to "The writing on the wall". The next chapter has blacklight in the background. One code translates to Bill is watching and I couldn't figure out the other one
NOTES, CORRECTIONS, AND FOLLOW UP INFO:
WRITTEN VERSION OF TIMELINE: www.tumblr.com/fordtato/721241687528177664/the-gravity-falls-timeline
1.) Mothra (1961) is a more accurate reference match for the Mothgar poster in the room, mentioned in chapter 3. Thank you to those who have pointed it out. ^_^
2.) THE STAN O WAR THING MIGHT HAVE BEEN 1961, but I am not sure, and it is killing me.
But also, Stan has a bandaid on his cheek, similar to ATOTS and The Jersey Devil Comic (but the bandaid *is* in a different placement in the JD comic, and we know Stan gets THAT injury by getting cut with glass when he breaks into the chain case, seemingly AFTER finding the Stan O War, so the bandaid on his cheek might be from a different injury in the Lil Stanley flashback.)
But if it IS 1961, this would make the Lil Brucey quote make more sense.

Okay so I'm at 57:15 and you are talking about how if the picture in the principal's office is Nixon or if it's the other guy who ran just before him.
Those late-night film sessions will mess with your brain lol

as a con man stan has probably made up so many different birthdays and ages throughout the years that his actual age has become a mystery to him 😭
On the other hand Ford Was stuck on the other side of that portal, so maybe his time count would also be inaccurate.

Wait if he created the mind control tie for someone to control Reagan
did he mean "debate politics with Reagan" as using Reagan to debate politics?
That feels like a very Gravity Falls interpretation, Ford seems like the kind of guy with few enough morals to think that would be fun
For me, what clinched this interpretation was Hana mentioning in that segment the way that Reagan was generally regarded by scientists, and the way he tended to defund science research. I think Ford would have been as pissed off at him over that as many other scientists were, and I could kind of see Ford wanting to debate with him about those policies (i.e. tell him how stupid it is to defund medical and climate research, and alternative energy research, for example).

I can't believe they covered the entire timeline in 15 minutes. Truly impressive.

Me, 25min later: “This is the best.”
1:32:54 I was always under the impression that Bill wrote that mushy shit about himself while possessing Ford as a big fuck you to the guy and Ford scribbled it out when he woke up. Bill is petty enough to do that.
That actually makes so much sense
I wholeheartedly agree; the cadence of it also sounds like Bill more than Ford to me
That’s so fucking funny
This is why you date your journal entries.
Just
Just Incase you're actually part of a cartoon and some poor kid is going insane trying to figure out what your birthday is
Or if you yourself have terrible memory and are trying to figure out a timeline of your own life....
I feel like the reason stuff could be written out of order in the journals is because in the moment while out on the feild, Ford just opened to a blank page and went for it. Could even be that he was working on the journals partly at the same time, just grabbing a book before running after something and added the whole 1 2 3 thing later for dramatics
I think shermie and his kid both being teen parents makes sense. Kids of teen parents often become teen parents themselves 🤷🏻♀️
and it adds to the fact that dipper and mabel’s parents are possibly going through marital issues because most relationships started in pre-teen/teen years split up. especially after marriage if they haven’t broken up yet
Seeing ford mention sweet dreams by the eurythmics in the book of bill made me think of you and this video and i said "oh no.." aloud
I can't believe it actually still lines up im sick
Exact same thing happened to me! I was vaguely wondering what the timeline was with Hana's interview with him and if that could've been an intentional bit of yanking their chain a bit while writing the book since I'm pretty sure the Sweet Dreams bit came up in the interview😅
Maybe Bill picked it because it was one of Ford's favorite songs
Why not?
2:01:57 "Who among us hasn't given our bodies over to interdimensional demons? I know I'm not innocent!" ...Foreshadowing is a literary device wh-
y'all the amount of times I had to edit this comment before I spelled "interdimensional" correctly is unreal
Still, I think that might be what Ford was thinking when he said that.)
I wrote up longer thoughts about Ford's attachment to Tesla, and to Sagan, back in 2016, here: www.tumblr.com/eregyrn-falls/149422460228/ford-tesla-and-sagan?source=share

One in the black light, one in eighty three"
I'm really curious to look into this but don't currently have the time so if anyone knows more than I do please lmk!
the 83 key is the eurythmics, cause at 2:32:17 you can see a key post-it above it. Also it's the key to putting the timeline right, haha.
Also one of the codes is probably at 2:04:34
I think that this is the other code at 10:53
don't know about the second key though
i like finding stuff, but i don't know how to crack codes very well. but that's all i found, i don't really know what to do with it or if it's right
first code key: KH LV FRPLQJ
decodes to: HE IS COMING
next to the BILL IS WATCHING (decoded from ELOO LV ZDWFKLQJ) on the blacklight wall during chapter one, we see "dae vqh". using the key HEISCOMING in a vigenere decoder, i got "www dot".
in chapters 4-7 we see the code "gvsgtmta" and i dont yet know what that decodes to.
around 2:04:33 we se "PW: al mw grrvouvi" and "Texq'p qeb pbzlka HBV?" the second of which decodes to "What's the second KEY?" and the first of which.... decodes (if you treat PW as separate) to....

My new favorite headcannon is that Bill Cypher wrote Ice Ice Baby, this whole video is beautiful
whats truly more important: canon details shown explicitly in the show that set clear timeline details or THE EURYTHMICS BABY THE EURYTHMICS
seriously i love all your videos im going back to binge them now that the gravity falls fixation is back lol
Can’t believe i just watched 2 and half hours of someone slowly loosing their mind… it was great! Srsly i love the amount of work you put into the sets and transition scenes, the bag of ‘powdered sugar’ at 1:21:52 actually made me laugh out loud
im a year late to this video but my first thought about the memory gun is: he could have made it but not used it. we dont know what he saw, so it may have been something smaller, and personal - just enough to leave him in a panic but then after completing it maybe used it to only hide that one single memory or just talked himself out of using it. but then come the portal, thats too big and too much. so either finallt uses it for the first time or the second time.
either way this is so wildly satisfying a timeline and incredible
yeah that makes a lot of sense
Also... its a memory gun.
(I mean, if he makes it for the Gremloblin incident, and he successfully erased that memory, then he cannot exactly date its creation to the incident he can no longer remember, right?)
74 days is, of course, about 2 and a half months.
I need an animatic of Ford losing his mind as Sweet Dreams plays so badly it would be so funny

The jury is out, but it's going in my "corrections" short video.
sounds like there's demand for a toh timeline breakdown.. you'll never guess what i thought would be fun to do as soon as i finished this video
"Ronald Reagan is real and he's hiding under your bed" *looks at my double stacked floor mattresses* Ah. So he's in hell. That checks out.
my cat Ringo was incredibly invested in this video and kept pawing at your face, you've got his seal of approval

This video wildly improved my day. I had found out that I had a dual ear infection. However, I loved watching this video!

Honestly, if this video taught me anything, it's that it's hard to be sure about anything, including 2012 vs 2013 (though the 1961 or 1964 date was the toughest to crack, for me, and still my biggest back-and-forth). Wkdqn brx iru zdwfklqj!

IDK!
Yeah I looked at a lot of the events of the show and the journal and decided "this video is over 2 hours. I'm not touching that."
I was literally thinking that same thing, thank you!!!
@@smhall02 omg really?? That makes my day!

(the implication that you made a deal with bill to have more filming space is both genius and really funny). questions were answered, good times were had. sorry if this makes no sense im struggling to find words other than "i really really enjoyed this thing". also i hope you end every video from now on with something related to sweet dreams are made of this /hj

somebody has probably already said this but with the kissing robot stan says “it was basically…with a rubix cube for a mouth” so i think it’s most likely that he is making a comparison here using a product that he knows of at the time of the commentary, so he isn’t saying that the mouth was literally a rubix cube, he’s just using that as a descriptor looking back on it.
I think that Shermie had to be a baby because an older Shermie complicated Stan & Ford's relationship. Shermie being a baby means that Stan & Ford don't really have a relationship with him, thus explaining why he's almost never mentioned.
or he's a teenager and the baby is his kid
That way Shermie still bears the Pines surname, but is likely much older than the Stans, and didn't live with them while they were growing up.)
To be clear: the baby was absolutely meant to be Shermie.
The time AND effort you have put into this timeline is wild, respect for you Hana
The phrase “floundering anxious Icarus” is beautiful. Condolences on the video’s sudden and dramatic expansion 😂 I’m very excited to watch it!
I was thinking D, D & more D had another name before 1974 and rebranded during that year. They did it in the 90s and became "Diggity Dungeons and All That" before rebranding back to the name we know it as, so maybe it was just something the game did sometimes. I mean Dipper did say they change the art style every few years, too
This was such a joy to watch, I felt so happy at the end when you figured it out!
I find it absolutely hilarious that you say “let’s start with ford and Stan in 1960 something “ and immediately get cut to a trailer for a movie about the year 1969, excellent timing on RUclips’s part
you know, even tho there were a few things that didn´t line up, you sill managed to make almost everything work, great work

I just wanted to say my little theory about how the "kissing robot with a Rubik's cube mouth" comment from Stan could fit into the timeline!

What an absolutely insane video. It was an incredibly fun watch, I hope it was at least a fraction of that much fun to make
YAAAHOOOOO I WAS SO EXCITED FOR YOUR NEXT UPLOAD AND THIS DIDN'T DISAPPOINT!!! its mad how much time you spend in this fandom but i live for it you are so based for it (PLEASE DO NOT BURN YOURSELF OUT THOUGH!!!). banger vid, keep it up!!
Thank you so much for watching! I enjoyed reading your comments.
@@hanahyperfixates If anything I have to thank you. Usually I just stop in the middle of these types of videos because they are too long and I get bored(I have ADHD too). But you made it so interesting and exciting, changing locations, changing the setup and not staying the same. And the little messages for which you have to pause to read them and the codes themselves. You already know how to make a video interesting even though you only posted two videos so far
i don't watch video essays anymore cause i realised i forget everything the second it's finished but binged this and could tell you the year sharpies were invented. uhh early sixties so totally worth it IT REALLY WAS i was like oh i'll stop in 10 minutes and i'm at the end rn SUCH AN AWESOME WORK i wanna comment on every single line but sadly not possible hoping to see a video realted to fiddauthor sometime 🤞🏾
It is 100% Nixon. In Headhunters, look at Wax Nixon. He is drawn exactly the same, with those same jowls.
another amazing video!! the way you managed to crack it in such a satisfying way, only for it to end with that blatant error was peak comedy lol
and god you’re right about that fucking baby haunting every gravity falls theorist. i remember after the episode aired I was still trying to cling to grunkle4grandpa and the idea that it was dipper and Mabel’s parent and also stan and carla’s kid bc it just didn’t make sense for it to be shermie, and Carla has the same style of curls as Mabel. all the G4G theorists I followed were just like “WHO?!” when stan just casually namedropped shermie after going the whole series without even mentioning their grandparents, we were in denial for a bit 😭
I was lurking in the G4G tags for a while after the reveal like "oh man are they okay?" Soon that sentiment became "oh they're fine. Mostly because they're still in denial. Respect."
But I feel your pain. I was holding on to Mystery Trio until Alex struck that down after the finale.
(also, sorry I targeted g4g for a joke in this
@@hanahyperfixates dw you’re good haha, it’s just kinda funny looking back
I like how Hana included "Who is the baby?" in the thumbnail, clearly knowing that it's the first question on anyone's mind when it comes to a Gravity Falls timeline. (Much like TheRealJims knew that the first question on anyone's mind when it comes to the layout of the Simpsons' house is the rarely seen Rumpus Room behind the garage)
I haven't actually watched gravity falls but I'm just so oddly entertained by your vibes and storytelling
One in the black light, one in eighty-three." (Punctuation not initially present because my mind won't let me type it out without punctuation.)
I believe the one I found at 2:04:33 is the one in the black light.
ALSO on hana's tumblr, fordtato, there is code in their announcement post for this video which translates from "D sxccolqj frgh, L krsh wklv pdnhv lw ehwwhu: Ilqg doo wkh slhfhv dqg sxw wkhp wrjhwkhu." to "A puzzling code, I hope this makes it better: Find all the pieces and put them together." maybe the key for the vigenere is split up and hidden in the black light and in eighty three (?) and we have to find the two halves and combine them to make a key thatll solve the unbreakble codes?? i may be wrong lol im not the greatest at code solving
i love this video so much your videos have been fueling my book of bill induced gravity falls hyperfixation and i appreicate you sm for it
The bit about the one way street sign has destroyed me the most for some reason. Too relatable
Honestly, that really IS one hell of a detail to actually be accurate!
AyE I'M doIN a GRaviTy FALLS
AyE, I'M GraViTy FALLSIN' HERE
Here we go 🤓
I love your channel please keep being unapologetically yourself 🥰
Watching again because of the codes. One of the chapters has code. It translates to "The writing on the wall". The next chapter has blacklight in the background. One code translates to Bill is watching and I couldn't figure out the other one
