So it looks like Kia/Hyundai managed to make a good start by basing the EGMP on strong fundamentals from their ICE cars. A good choice; too many manufacturers bumping up their costs and lowering value proposition to customers by trying to re-invent the wheel. If a good steel BIW can accommodate a 300+ mile range EV drivetrain AND remain one of the lightest, and safest EVs available in this market segment, it proves that they're doing it right 👍👍 No wonder, with the amount of Ioniq 5s and EV6 there are here on the roads in the UK already.
The investments in the platform and body are easily dwarfed by having your competitors making battery deals before you. Now instead of you making the drivetrain it is somebody else. That is why subcontracting automakers struggle. Volume is obviously always a factor.

Does anyone know if the Ioniq 5 SE, SEL, and Limited use the same wiring harness? Would be curious to if you could take the cameras from the Limited and put them in a SEL or SE and the surround cameras would work. Is it a hardware limitation because the connections are not there along with the proper trim or is it a software limitation to the model?
Yep Honda is one of the early pioneers with “ACE” as well as Volvo as well doing edge testing. And by edge I mean edge case testing as opposed to testing merely to pass tests
Kia/huyndai has some major or minor problem of the e-platform because on thr facelift they have to make some changes and strenghtening on the body frame. Allso kia ev6 has really problem with the ride quality. It doesnt drive directly.
In and of itself, the video does a great job of explaining this "compromise chassis" (for ICE, PHV, & BEV). Unfortunately the "itself" counter person was less capable, since about 1/2 dozen "itself" utterances were uncounted in the tally. 😁

I disagree.. Tesla using those huge aluminum castings front and rear and also with the entire interior being mounted to the battery and installed from underneath; it's just better
weird this feels like watching a component in the ICE vehicle period/age. The Cybertruck is setting a new paradigm in car building. I think the future is more straight line structures, body lines and stainless steel. While ugly to most people at first, it will become norm pretty fast like how European or traditional buildings were done vs the modern architecture we have today which is more practical and cost sensitive.
Stainless steel is a material which is unnecessarily hard to form during the manufacturing process,. Let alone repair through the life of the vehicle. A dead end.

MUNRO - the Hyundai e-GiMP platform is Factually OUTDATED, too Heavy , with too many Fastners and too many Brackets holding up MORE brackets. Hyundai is lacking the MOST Advanced BIW , the TESLA Front & Rear Gigacast, and 4680 Structural pack.
My 2023 Model Y long range rattled like crazy as well. I traded in because of the rattles and insane phantom breaking that threw my kids heads into their child seats. Never again will I own a Tesla. Overpriced Elon Trash cans.
It is interesting to watch this BIW overview next to the Tesla Model S BIW overview. The progressiveness of the design can be argued, but the quality of the welds and application of the adhesive looks decidedly better on the Ioniq 5 than the Model S.

MUNRO - at end of the day , Hyundai e-GiMP platform is an OUTDATED gas based platform , Designed for Combustion cars, Hybrids (combustion) , Fool Cells and a BEV platform. but , e-GiMP is only using the Hybrid & BEV Variants . still, the Platform is too Complex and too Heavy.

How viable would flow drilling+tapping the front crush beam be? Are there material or thickness limitations to these processes?

MUNRO - the Hyundai e-GiMP platform is Factually OUTDATED, too Heavy , with too many Fastners and too many Brackets holding up MORE brackets.
Hyundai is lacking the MOST Advanced BIW , the TESLA Front & Rear Gigacast, and 4680 Structural pack.
Yet the Tesla I owned was a total rattle box-Tesla=PURE RUBBISH. Horrible build quality.
My 2023 Model Y long range rattled like crazy as well. I traded in because of the rattles and insane phantom breaking that threw my kids heads into their child seats.
Never again will I own a Tesla. Overpriced Elon Trash cans.
It is interesting to watch this BIW overview next to the Tesla Model S BIW overview. The progressiveness of the design can be argued, but the quality of the welds and application of the adhesive looks decidedly better on the Ioniq 5 than the Model S.

MUNRO - at end of the day , Hyundai e-GiMP platform is an OUTDATED gas based platform , Designed for Combustion cars, Hybrids (combustion) , Fool Cells and a BEV platform.
but , e-GiMP is only using the Hybrid & BEV Variants .
still, the Platform is too Complex and too Heavy.
