There’s an easy way to prevent theft if they’re so worried about it that they follow an innocent man and harass him in the store. Put security tags on everything. I’m not talking about the clunky plastic ones they used in clothing stores but the ones that are embedded in the barcode. Get rid of self checkout and hire actual people for all the registers instead of one, keep the phones to inbound only, make all employees keep their personal items in their locked cars/purses/employee locker or a security room if lockers don’t exist, and have them actually work. Guarantee you that if loud sirens go off once a customer goes across a security line if the barcode isn’t scanned by a register logged into with an active cashier’s ID code, the thefts will stop.
The keyword in this story is “ former employee” so Walmart did find evidence of profiling and had to fire the employee , so they lied in the letter and to the customer .

There’s an easy way to prevent theft if they’re so worried about it that they follow an innocent man and harass him in the store. Put security tags on everything. I’m not talking about the clunky plastic ones they used in clothing stores but the ones that are embedded in the barcode. Get rid of self checkout and hire actual people for all the registers instead of one, keep the phones to inbound only, make all employees keep their personal items in their locked cars/purses/employee locker or a security room if lockers don’t exist, and have them actually work. Guarantee you that if loud sirens go off once a customer goes across a security line if the barcode isn’t scanned by a register logged into with an active cashier’s ID code, the thefts will stop.
The keyword in this story is “ former employee” so Walmart did find evidence of profiling and had to fire the employee , so they lied in the letter and to the customer .

It so demeaning when this happens, we had a security guard accuse us of stealing, then said he could get us thrown out etc, it was humiliating but we were lucky as the old white couple next to us supported us. Hubbie and I are in our mid 50s, 🤷♀️
