- An easy & quick way to understand how to use the New York City Subway.
For tourists and NEW New Yorkers.

I remember how anxious I was when I moved to New York. I found everything overwhelming and confusing because the commute in London was just so easy.
After living here for nearly 3 years, and getting used to the system. This is how I would have taught myself on how to use the Subway.
There has been some changes with the charges since I moved here. The fare is now $2.90 per entry, ($2.75 previously). And the 7-Day Cap now starts any time within the week of your first tap/charge, (the cap strictly started on a Monday and ended on a Sunday previously).
When doing the maths, you get to save about $163 per year if you use the 30-Day Unlimited pass through the MTA Metro Card. It’s worth mentioning that the MTA plan to phase out the MTA cards by 2024, but no definite dates yet.

***TIP: Uptown Trains usually run on the RIGHT side of the road, or Upward traffic.***
***TIP: Downtown Trains usually run on the LEFT side of the road, or Downward traffic.***
Trainlines and flow try to mimic the flow of traffic for less confusion & easy accessibility.

AVOID BEING LATE: Always be at the platform a few minutes before the listed time because trains (and buses) usually arrive earlier than stated in APPS.

WHEN USING CONTACLESS: Always use the same device to avoid double charges. - Хобби
The New York City Subway can be so intimidating. This simplifies the whole thing. :) Great resource.
So if I am a tourist and would like to use subway and buses for 4 days, i can just start paying contactless, the system will charge me for first twelve fares and then it stops.
Do i need to do anything else (than paying contactless) to use this option?
Correct. Just use ur contactless payment device or card. Nothing else to do. :)
If ur using iPhone to pay. To make it quicker to pay, go to settings - Wallet & Apple Pay. - switch on “EXPRESS TRANSIT CARD” . So that it doesn’t have to do facial recognition or ask for passcodes when u have to pay.
