  • Missouri state Sen. Jason Bean was a guest on @stlpublicradio’s Politically Speaking, where the Holcomb Republican talked about a range of topics - including a likely statewide vote to legalize abortion.
Before Bean was elected to the legislature in 2020, Missouri lawmakers passed a bill that would ban most abortions if Roe v. Wade was overturned. That happened in 2022, leading to a ban that had no exceptions for women who became pregnant because of rape or incest.
While some Missouri Republicans have contended that @moconstitutionalfreedom amendment goes too far for voters, Bean said a lot of people in his southeast Missouri-based district say the abortion ban goes way too far.
For context: The 10 counties that encompass Bean’s 25th Senatorial District voted for Republican Donald Trump from anywhere from 71% to 85% of the vote. That makes the district one of the most Republican leaning in the state.
