LED ZEPPELIN / THE WANTON SONG /LIVE 1975/ DRUM COVER

- Zep only performed The Wanton Song a few times live, this is from their first show of the 1975 U.S. Tour, in Bloomington, MN on Jan. 18 1975. This is a partial soundboard recording that came out a couple years ago.
You often hear people say how Bonzo always laid back on the beat, but I disagree. He definitely did sometimes, like on Since I've Been, Kashmir, No Quarter.... but he also often really drove forward, with a lot of urgency... like on this tune, Trampled Under Foot, Sick Again....many other examples. He wasn't playing behind the beat on this!

As usual his interpretation mr. Fludas is remarkable. I will never tire of writing it ☮️🙏❗🥁
This is their best album. And John is following and playing all the guitar licks, awesome way to play drumes on a song, follow the guitar. Thanks George for amazing playing😀
I play this in my car in the morning,it energises me ...thankyou sir!
Your touch and ghost notes are pure feeling. Brilliant... thank you
Thanks! 🙏🏼
Led Zepplin ~ greatest band ever!
another A+ for Mr. George.. straight artillery
Terrific!
Thanks
That f’ing rocks!!!
I wish I could give this two thumbs up!
Only Led Zeppelin could combine R&R with heavy metal and funk in the same song and only George could readily display that so brilliantly for us.
Thank you, George!
My favorite is the lick at 3:20. I lost it when they played this during the second Page/Plant reunion. Too bad it's not on Celebration Day.
Yeah, quintessential Bonzo
Oh hell fuckin yea. Been waiting for this! Solid as titanium there Mr Fludas!
Thanks!
Spectacular
George never disappoints
George, you are spot on, brother!
Great job, loved the tympani rolls! Kuddos to Terry for letting 'Amber' spend the weekend at Uncle Geo's place!
The finesse behind the power of those thunderous Vistalites provided a welcome midday energy.
Thanks!
Great job! I'm sure Bonzo would approve.
So great!
Two hand and two feet, all playing a different pattern...how do drummers do it? Incredible!
I want to live next door to George. Imagine walking to the mailbox and hearing this!
Outstanding, George.
is my humble opinion ... But this is a stratospheric piece. Bad and intense at the same time. A song that made school in the heavy metal genre that would come later. Thank you for sharing ❤️❤️❤
excellent job covering this song. well done
Your solid drumming really makes Robert's rough voice and Jimmy's very loose playing very noticeable
Impressive versión of one of the heaviest songs of Zeppelin, with a tight riff paired perfectly by the bass drum / snare rhytm pattern . Loved those fills played on the timpani and the hi-hat /snare fill at 02:15. Indeed Bonham could really played behind or on top of the beat depending on the song and or the section of the song . Congratulations for the outstanding performance. I remember how Page and Plant opened their concerts in 1998/1999 tour with this song. Pietro
On point man! Absolute fantastic!
HELL YEAH!!!!
T!!! These Vistas are the cats ass !!
The live zep version i heard of this, Bonzo did something cool with his cymbals. either a wash or a choke. I cant remember. i was hoping to see you do it. doesnt matter, you rocked it. love all your videos George.
Excellent as always!
Love it! Great rendition! ❤
Nice
Good job
I always thought this would have been a perfect set opener for the 75 tour. Wanton stright into Sick Again would have been AMAZING! I love the shows that opened with SRTS but for this tour, I thing The Wanton Song would have been a better fit. You sound beautiful as always!
I'm sure they dropped it because Robert just couldn't manage.. especially for 1975.
Let alone for the first track of the evening, when his voice was at its weakest point of the night.
@@zachramsden9549 Very good point. Not that Rock and Roll was much easier, but he always altered the melody notes live and sang them lower. Harder to do with Wanton Song
That's very true I'd say you are 100% right why they did. Didn't he have a bad cold during the first few shows? It's a shame his voice so off and on post 1972 but he still could give wonderful performances here and there. Maybe 1977 or 79 RP could have had a better time pulling it off.
It was great opener in 1998 in Zagreb, Page and Plant "Walking into Clarksday" tour.💪
Michael Lee did great job, very energetic!
Fantastic Cover ¡¡🥰
1 of my favorite LZ song
Love this! George nails Bonham’s sound - nobody out there doing Zeppelin covers this well! 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice, George!
TIGHT!
My favorite Zep song! I rank it as their best record. It has a bit of everything. Brilliant.
I thinks it's great that you tackle the live versions and not just mimic the studio versions, more of a challenge to interpret I bet. A pleasure to listen to George.🥁👏
3:20 one of favourite Bonzo drum breaks.
Mine as well! Element of surprise!! 💥
Hell Yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
George's 26 minute "Dazed" from TSRTS made him an instant legend. This is also one of his best, short and sweet but such terrific feel. Why Wanton and Custard Pie weren't on every set list the last 3 tours is mystifying.
George…the volume swell with the tympani leading back into the verse? I almost fell out of bed. Fantastic.
OH THE TYMPANI!!!! YES!!!!!
Rare one to hear live, I heard Page had a broken pinky! Awesome hearing that timpani too 👊💥
Thanks Andy, yeah his finger was caught in a train door, supposedly, before the tour.
I had not heard this version and wow it cooks. a real showcase of bonham's phrasing. thank you george you killed it!
This is so epic. Cheers! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🥁
Always one of my favorite Bonham grooves. Real nice job
Thanks a lot!
Maravilhoso, como sempre, George!
Electric magic right here George, with one of my all-time Bonham / Zep favorites. I wish they would have played this one in the set list way more, as it grooves! ✌❤🥁
Always excellent drumming.
Zep fan for life, even for me some songs I wasn’t into but could always zero in on what Bonham was doing in the song and for it to become a favorite . Only song it didn’t work for me was ALL OF MY LOVE.
Love it!
Snare sound from Valhalla George!!
I think Bonham's many best perfomances come out from '75 tour.
Fantastic! You always sounds as if I’m listening to Bonham himself!
The engine sounds great!!!!!! Sweet pick!
Always a favorite of mine! Great playin' George. There's some really cool dimishined chords in the chorus that really accentuate the feel. Then, that driving riff, quite a bit harder to articulate on guitar. Made my day my brother! Thank you!❤
Thanks!
Thanks George, how’s anyone supposed to do Zepp drum covers now?❤❤❤❤
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Tight but Loose.Masterfull in every aspect.
Thanks!
Muito bom 👏
Another excellent cover! Could you possibly do a cover for levee breaks live? The break down half way through is one of the heaviest things Zeppelin ever played in my opinion
That was done the same day! I'll post soon. Thanks, Alex
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍💪🥁💥❤️
Any thoughts on a play through of the super early Whiskey a Go Go gig?
Nice. Hey George can you tell any difference between the black dots and Ludwig silver dots?
I really can't because I haven't played silver dots for a really long time. Bonzoleum would be good to ask.
So he doesn't play two doubles on the bass drum all the time. Thank you George, such a joy to watch you every single time. Being in Netherlands now I listen again after years a lot of Focus. Would be nice to see you covering one track of them just in case you ever feel like.
I think Bonzo rarely plays the same thing over and over. Yes!! I've been wanting to cover Hocus Pocus! Thanks.
@@BONHAMOLOGY You're right he wasn't following the same pattern. Hocus Pocus was in my head imagining you covering it and not just because it's their "smoke on the water". Looking forward to it!
George those cymbals are 😍😍😍😍
Whats the set-up here?
Nicely done! Is that a Ludwig Speed King under your right foot?
Yes it is
Bonzo was surely ahead of his time 😅👍👍👍 🏃♂️
Dear mr Fludas please please pretty please could you play the 1979 knebworth version on nobody’s fault but mine. John bonham at his heaviest. Loaded with absolute monster thumping fills….
It might be more accurate to say he played on the tail end of the back beat? I personally think he just knew exactly how to make it feel good ☝️ this is very classy George and very skillful too I think I heard you make some micro adjustments in places, probably a nod and a wink between jpj and bonzo. Have you seen the footage that’s popped up recently of nirvana playing a benefit show for Mia zapata in 93 they jam on no quarter at the beginning
I haven't seen that, I'll look for it! Yeah, there is some elasticity in this version, a little to follow exactly.
can you tell me what cameras you are using and how you have the overhead mounted
Are those paiste giant beats and or 2002's also?
Could you play the ocean on that kit?
Is the Ludwig rug new lol? How do you like it?
It's okay, I would say not bad. Not great. My main complaint is it's a bit thin and the material is very kind of Sheen. So if you don't have a pad under it, the spikes of the bass drum spurs cut into it pretty easily.
That snare drum sounds great. What head do you have on it? Love your playing. Thanks for the videos
Thanks. It's just a Remo Ambassador
did Bonham bury his beater like you do here on your bass drum?
I think sometimes he did, you can see some examples of him doing that in the denmarks TV show, but I assume that he often did not. Just depends on the kind of effect you want.
Sami hagar
Hey kids. Don’t learn to bury your kick beater
It's all part of bass drum technique, you get different sounds, feel, attack. I Don't always bury the beater but often I do. There's no way to get a really solid loud smack by not burying. There's video footage where you can see Bonzo bury the beater and footage where he doesn't. There's no hard fast rule.
Everyone needs a giant brass #GONG in the house. And you complain about guitarists playing thru 100W Marshall Plexi's with no Master Volume inside the house.
😂
Why no 1080 resolution?
I have no idea, I shot this in 1080, something must have happened in the transfer process in iMovie. Weird
Open the sock abit....... gotta a bit sloppy to loosen up
I thought they played this too fast
I agree, this is a bit too fast. There might have been some Colombian marching powder to blame.
Cocaine's a powerful drug 😂
@@slimsuits3231😂
I don't like the tempo on this live version .. too fast it really takes away from the beat
