The funny thing here tho is that the into sequence for Disneys Dinosaurus where the Pteranodon flies over the herd is filmed in the tepui mountains wich are huge plateaus and mountains in north east South America and the oldest mountains in the world and I belive almost all of them have ecosystems completly unique to a single mountain at times with massive cave systems bellow them. And the Lost World just so happens to be on a plateau in South America.
So yeah Id say your not far off there Edaph.

Dinosaur Summer is a good book, though, if you can find a copy of it. The worldbuilding of a world that has had live dinosaurs around in zoos and circus' for decades was really neat...plus what they find on the Plateau has some very horrifying things.

I loved this movie as a kid, I'm glad it is getting more attention now, it's really underrated. I loved dinosaurs as a kid and this one, along with Jurassic Park and The Land Before Time were my favourite dinosaur movies, I have a lot of nostalgia for it. The animation is really impressive and amazing for a movie from the year 2000, and the soundtrack is so epic, emotional and memorable.
I always assumed that the asteroid in the movie was not the one that caused the KT-mass extinction, but a smaller, hypothetical one that struck the earth earlier before the big one. This would also explain why there are dinosaur species that were already extinct when the big one struck the earth, because the movie is set many million years before the KT-mass extinction.
And regarding the lemurs, as a kid I always imagined the lemurs in the movie to be the ancestors of humans.

@@RaptorRockDrakeJesusAll I’m gonna say is that he said it’s okay to like it even though he doesn’t. I haven’t seen a single person who doesn’t begin their explanation as to why they like Dinosaur without “when I was young I enjoyed it” or “when I was a little kid I loved Dinosaur” I know there are probably plenty of people who like Dinosaur without nostalgia goggles on but the people with them on are 100% the vast majority. Hell even I liked it when I was young but don’t like it now. I know all the people in the comments are probably just being half serious but I just think most people only like it because they grew up on it.

Facts that support the theory: Iguanodon and its branch family is perhaps one of the most successful species of dinosaurs, added to the fact that, without natural predators, Maple White Land could have been overpopulated until the Carnotaurus arrived, it would result in a change in the flora and the extinction of fauna such as Styracosarus or Parasaurolophus; it would not be until the Carnotaurus that the ecosystem would stabilize. Also, I believe that the meteorite that fell was not the one that killed the dinosaurs but a small part of it (although it was actually a comet) that preceded the larger one, something like a shower before the major impact. This would give rise to more dinosaurs like the Stegosaurus (which curiously the concept art of its cousin is more similar to the one seen in the novel than the current Stegosaurus) would come to take refuge in Maple White Land

wether the parallel was voluntarily drawn or not, we can't tell. But that's a pretty cool theory imo ; and would be the perfect setting for a Disney's The Lost World adaptation, serving as a low-key sequel to Dinosaur (a beloved movie from my childhood).
Now, i'm pretty sure Disney would heavily modify the story, making the "savage" human the bad guys treating dinosaurs as livestock and persecuting the "lemur-men" chilling in the forest, eating fruits and raising stray baby dinosaurs ; dinotopia-style. . .
I sure would watch something even as bad as that

I loved this movie as a kid, but then again I also loved Jurassic Park 2 and Were Back.
Looking back, it holds up a little bit. The visuals and music are awe inspiring. I don’t think anyone has ever made such convincing CGI dinosaurs sense the first Jurassic Park movie. And the music swells my enjoyment every time (the opening scene is worth the price of admission).
The downside in my opinion, is that the story is a bit lacking. It’s as you said, exodus with dinosaurs. It’s not they poorly told, but the characterization needs more work. Still, it’s not as bad as people say it is.
