China is trying to suppress information about a woman named Rebiya Kadeer, both at home and abroad.
Interesting life she's had. She was persecuted during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, she was a millionairess, she's mothered eleven children, and now she's an exiled figurehead for Uigher autonomy.

As I type, on 1 August, Chinese hackers are attacking the Melbourne International Film Festival web site, in an effort to punish them for screening a documentary about her.

my friend, as a Uighur what I can tell you is our experience:
We had an independent republic called East Turkistan in 1940s. China and the Soviets cooperated in invading our land in 1949. They promised us a "great autonomy" at the time. however, what the Chinese did in last 60 years is killing 2 million Uighurs and having 46 nuclear test in our land. bringing millions of Chinese into our land and taking our kids to Chinese cities as cheap labors. China is a imperialist invader.

Thank the Communist Party of the People's Republic of China. If they hadn't tried to bark orders at the Melbourne International Film Festival, I would probably have never heard about Rebiya Kadeer or this film.

Israel is the "Holy Land" mate. The Jews believe it is the land given to them by God. The Christians believe it is the birth place of Jesus. And the Muslims believe it is the place where Mohammed ascended to heaven. That's what all the fuss is about there.
Xinjiang doesn't have anything like that kind of significance. In fact, outside China, it doesn't really have any significance at all. But a figurehead like Rebiya Kadeer could change that.
