I swear you have the best fish channel. I have just watched like six videos on this topic from other youtubers, and they just don’t know how to explain things well, half the time I end up just shutting their videos off a minute in cuz I can’t stand the sound of their voices, I feel like they were all just frustrating me and you just made the whole set up process so easy just by watching your video. @KaveMan Aquatics Exactly!! New tank as well. I have a ton of substrate to rinse first. Do you reccomend only setting up one of the fx6's until the tank clears up from set up so I don't have to wash them both out?
Nope! Hook up and have them both running to get as much bacteria growing on your media as fast as possible. After your tank clears up just replace the white pad with a fresh one and you’ll be good to go!

Very informative video Kaveman, I too run two FX6 canisters on my monster S.American cichlids tank to keep the water clean and clear. I have modified the intakes with pre-filter sponges and the returns with a 90° elbow so it’s not longer dual outlets, gives better flow with the directions they’re pointing. If I never had the FX6 I would say this is probably the best video I’ve seen for set up👍👍👍

@@KaveManAquatics I watched it and quite a lot more. Thank you for taking time to help us inexperienced folks! One last qustion. You are putting both the Purigen & Chemi-Pure Blue to the filter? You just had it in the one already running.....
Hey Kev...my name is Kevin, and I am your new subscriber from South Africa. I owned a 4ft Malawi tank a few years back, and at first it was all going well, I had about +-25 Malawi's ( peacocks and mbuna's) oh and 2 frontosas ( my most favorite). They were around 3 to 5 cm. My frontosas were bigger though. Unfortunately, they all gradually died, so I did not take too well to it, and that led me to sell the entire setup. I have been watching your videos for almost 2 weeks now, and I have realized where I went wrong. I must say all your videos are by far the best I've seen, easy to understand, and most inspiring no disrespect to the other aquatic channels, but your videos stand out bro, because anyone can see just how passionate you are about this and most of all your honesty and transparency, you have inspired me to give this another try, with your videos I am confident that I will succeed. I did enjoy this video. However, I prefer sump filtration over the cannister.I would highly recommend your channel to others, fun to watch, and thank you very, very much Kev... God bless you and keep those videos coming, bro.
I'm just starting my own aquarium and your videos are definitely the most helpful in getting me setup correctly with clear water! I do have a question though. I'm looking to house a betta and some smaller fish like neon tetras.. which should I add first to the tank? I've seen nothing about an order specifically but thought there must be lol
I just joined 🎉 . I've just purchased a 75 gallon aquarium primarily for angelfish. I'm trying to figure out what filtration to purchase that is not too much flow for angelfish. I asked someone and they suggested Eheim filtration. I watch alot of your videos and would like your perspective. I see this canister has alot of good reviews. Appreciate all your help!! Blessings!
Eheim is a well known brand but I prefer Seachem or Fluval. If you’d like to go with an HOB the Seachem Tidal is the best. If you want to go canister I suggest the Fluval 407. Either one will work great for your tank with Angels 😁 Btw, Thanks for joining the membership. I appreciate your support! 😊💪
IDK brother man, I’m probably gonna have to try your method. I just got back in the game about 2 years ago after a 10 year hiatus from the hobby. Back then the FX 6’s we’re just coming out. When I started my aquariums up again went with an eheim 2262 and an FX 6. And so far the FX 6 has left much to be desired. But I’m gonna try to hang with it. So my next maintenance day, gonna try your method.
FOUND YOUR CHANNEL. u rock i had many tanks in past lost all due to hurricane 5-6 yrs ago started new tank never thought of new tank cycle i let it cycle for 2 week put some barchardi in . 1 week later only 1 fist left( ammonia). steadily watching your videos. thx for all your effort putting videos out. new subscriber
Hai brother, im from malaysia and I do watch ur videos, it's very knowledgeable and helpful for my hobby. Thank you for that 🙏 . Can you please explain me the pros and cons of the lava rock and crush coral to use as bio media?
I clean my canister and filter pads about once a month, I have big fish that poop a lot and if I don’t my pads get full. I use tank water, just give them a rinse and put them back and replace the carbon pads.
All the pads every month? The FX6 can go much longer than that, even with big fish. Leaving it alone longer also helps to maintain a healthy colony of bacteria. Try letting it get extra dirty, go 2 or 3 months without a full cleaning. Just replace your fine pad and carbon monthly and let me know if you see a boost in your water clarity! 😁
@@KaveManAquatics Oh no bud lol just the carbon pad. I’ve noticed that if I go longer the more nasty they are and harder to clean. I’ve had to completely replace the other pads because they were so clogged I couldn’t just rinse the gunk out.
I know this is way off topic for you great video, but would you be able to do an explanation video on water evaporation and how to add water during nitrogen cycle (fishless and fish-in) and established tanks?
Hey, thanks for your videos, happy to see a fellow Dominican on this platform. So my question is, I have a 75 gallon, prepping for peacocks. I have 2 FX4! I was told by my reputable LFS that just one fx4 would suffice for this project. I got 2. Is this enough?
I just set up an FX6 using your method. I almost cried when I saw how nice my 150 Tall looked this morning. It has been such a struggle that I was considering leaving the hobby. Thank You so much for your videos!!!!! Do you think using this media set up will work with non Fluval canisters as well?
That’s awesome! Glad I was able to help you overcome that obstacle and stick with the hobby!! Yes this will work with non fluval canister but keep in mind you need to know the direction water travels in that filter and load it up accordingly. 😁
Tried this way of setting up the fx6 with the matrix and used the top tray and sandwiched the chemi-blu between 2 of the Quick clear pads and water is still cloudy 4 days later. Rinsed the matrix media very good also. New tank set up 125 Gallon.

I use 2 FX6s on my 120g cichlid tank. Great vid. Just a little note Kev. The Stability should be added after the Prime so there is no interaction with untreated water. Your tanks are rockin! Question, why do you run your intake hose halfway into the tank?
Chlorine doesn’t kill bacteria instantly. I sometimes begin adding tap water to the tank and then add the prime. Either way has shown to work fine without any issues 😊
I love your channel. What Fluval filter should use for my 50 gallon fish tank? Fluval 307 or 407? I will be glad if you reply my comment. Thanks for all your educative vidoes
Setting up a new 75 with a background soon. Does your background have holes in it? The reason I ask is how does all the fish waste get behind the background to the filter intake?
Hello! Super cool channel, greetings! I want to ask you, started a new aquarium 480 liters / 125 gallons. I have installed 2 FX 6 filters, 2 wavemakers, 1 FX UVC In-Line Clarifier. I have upgraded the media with matrix, Glass ceramic Bio-MAX White Fluval, Carbon with zeolite and Purijen by Seachem. Can I put the following fish in the aquarium: 2 Oscars 2 Parrots 1 Jack Dempsey 1 Green Terror 3 Blue Acara Cichlid 1 Polypterus
If you put the chemical on top like you say don’t you think the nitrogen process will be disturbed by the purigen removing what was intended for the bio media (nitrogen cycle) ?? Seachem also states this about Purigen
@@KaveManAquatics thanks for your fast response 😊 I bought an fx6 and would like you to show us how to do a water change with it since i did a water change but im not sure if i used the correct method. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work

I searched for a video on tetra glofish by you but can't find . if you haven't done one ,I request you to do one . That would be very helpful. And thank you for all the wonderful videos .😊
With all the experience you got, you should have an online store for selling Cichlids … You will have tons of customers. Excellent channel!
Maybe one day 😁
Always posting great content! Love to see it!!👌🏼
Thank you bro! 😁 Glad you enjoyed it!
Yo Kaveman, Thanks for all your video's... I'm an OG Fish guy getting back into the Hobby. I have purchased the FX6 and will follow your guide on this video. I have a brand new 75G that I'm going to put South American Cichlids in itonce I have it up and running and cycled.... i know your video appears to be a year old. Anything else you want to add that might help me with my new setup....
Congrats on finding your way back to the hobby and on that new monster tank! 😁 Just to refresh your memory, my playlist for beginners will be very helpful for you 😁 - ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er
@@KaveManAquatics I watched it and quite a lot more. Thank you for taking time to help us inexperienced folks! One last qustion. You are putting both the Purigen & Chemi-Pure Blue to the filter? You just had it in the one already running.....
Excellent as always!!! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congratulations on your new Sting Ray! Oh and filtration system!
Thank you! 😁
My dog *Trey* was very interested in this video 😆.. Man I don't need this FX6, but I want it so badly 😂
🤣🤣 Just convince yourself that you most likely WILL need it in the future anyway. Thats what I do 🤣🤣
Thanks for the update Kev! Good stuff, answers a lot of my questions.
My pleasure bro, glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Another 🔥 Video
Let's Go!!
Thank you bro! Glad you enjoyed it 😁💪
Hey Kev...my name is Kevin, and I am your new subscriber from South Africa.
Thank you ! This made it so easy to set up:)
My pleasure! Glad it helped! 😁💪
Great video, great channel. Appreciate all the info.
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
Either one will work great for your tank with Angels 😁
Btw, Thanks for joining the membership. I appreciate your support! 😊💪
Great video as always!💯
Thank you bro, glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Page 10, Para 9, Art B12... Bwahahahaha, i fell fer that 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣 You like that one huh 💪
Thank you for the videos

I like how every video hes like “dont tell my wife im using this sink”
🤣🤣
I'm so ratting you out lol 😆, Thanks for the tutorial

Key, wing, thumb clamp to replace the supplied clamps works better and easier
IDK brother man, I’m probably gonna have to try your method. I just got back in the game about 2 years ago after a 10 year hiatus from the hobby. Back then the FX 6’s we’re just coming out. When I started my aquariums up again went with an eheim 2262 and an FX 6. And so far the FX 6 has left much to be desired. But I’m gonna try to hang with it. So my next maintenance day, gonna try your method.
Cool bro, hope to hear an update from you on how it goes! 💪
Thank you! Glad you didn’t give up and found your way back to the hobby 😊
kaveman Hey brother my daughter said nice Double fishtail bracelet.. she loves making them. She makes different kinds every day
Tell her I said thanks! My daughter made me this latest one. My kids love making them too 😁
I have 2 brand new FX6 on my 75 gallon. I got a good deal on them.
Nice! Congrats! 😁💪
2:53 haha "These are cute, but were not using them!" My kinda guy!
🤣🤣
Instead of the quick clear pad have you thought about getting the new Fluval UVC in line clearer?
@@KaveManAquatics
Oh no bud lol just the carbon pad. I’ve noticed that if I go longer the more nasty they are and harder to clean. I’ve had to completely replace the other pads because they were so clogged I couldn’t just rinse the gunk out.
Viewer request! Put some bulkheads in your tank and hook up the fX6 that way so I can watch you do it (and then do it myself). Thanks! 😊
Hey kave do you have a video on how to upgrade your FX 4
I know this is way off topic for you great video, but would you be able to do an explanation video on water evaporation and how to add water during nitrogen cycle (fishless and fish-in) and established tanks?
Hey, thanks for your videos, happy to see a fellow Dominican on this platform. So my question is, I have a 75 gallon, prepping for peacocks. I have 2 FX4! I was told by my reputable LFS that just one fx4 would suffice for this project. I got 2. Is this enough?
Just looking at getting a new aquarium after a few years out. Found you from insta, top quality video pal very informative 👏👏
Thank you! Glad you're finding the channel helpful! 😁💪
You are most likely going through a bacterial bloom. Search for “kaveman bacterial bloom” for a great video 😊

Go with the 407 😁
@KaveManAquatics ok thank you 😊
Setting up a new 75 with a background soon. Does your background have holes in it? The reason I ask is how does all the fish waste get behind the background to the filter intake?
The intakes create suction behind the background.
Wouldn’t adding tap water before adding prime kill the beneficial bacteria in stability ?
Can I put the following fish in the aquarium:
2 Oscars
2 Parrots
1 Jack Dempsey
1 Green Terror
3 Blue Acara Cichlid
1 Polypterus
If you put the chemical on top like you say don’t you think the nitrogen process will be disturbed by the purigen removing what was intended for the bio media (nitrogen cycle) ?? Seachem also states this about Purigen
Could you do a video on how to do a water change on an FX6
Not sure what you mean by "on an FX6" But here's my playlist with tons of FX6 content 😊 - ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8N4952LL3ElXj3J9R9iacFv
@@KaveManAquatics thanks for your fast response 😊 I bought an fx6 and would like you to show us how to do a water change with it since i did a water change but im not sure if i used the correct method. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work
Here's a great video on water changes, not much changes when having an FX6 - ruclips.net/video/y2rOo5UcO94/видео.html
@@KaveManAquatics Thanks a lot
Could you please share and describe what are chemical media
Chemical media can remove unwanted dissolved organics, tannins, and even medications from the water. They can help in getting your water clearer than it is. But chemical media is always just optional, never necessary. I highly suggest you check out my playlist for beginners. It'll be very helpful for you 😁 - ruclips.net/p/PLP5OXTIIDO8NYvhUHAmwAd54WFmS4d8er
kev!!! do you have a setup video for a fx4 by chance?
No, but you can setup the same way as this. You just have 1 less tray for medía. 😁
I managed to get a 2nd hand but unused fx6 for £50… When here in the uk they cost £250 new
hey man, how wide is the widest part of the filter, i don't think it will fit through my cabinet doors
Hello. I just bought an fx6 to replace my cascade 1000. Can I use my chemi pure blue in this filter? Thanks.
Hey kev, How come you chose canister filters over sumps?
