  • Got a new OEM steering rack since mine was hemmoraging PS fluid.
Had to buy a return tube fitting and steering shaft bushing as well since the originals didn't survive the removal process.
Got Moog End links and sway bar bushings because those also did not survive removal.
Did end up cutting off my sway bar bolts please dont flame me, I know I knicked the subframe quite a bit and I do feel bad about that. First time ever cutting anything off. I tried everything to get them off.

This is a very accurate representation of how you can expect this job to go. I'm not done yet, but had to purchase a new high pressure line, low pressure return barb, and new end links in addition to the rack and outer tie rods.

Hey bud, I appreciate the video. You don't happen to remember which area the power steering end fitting went in do you? I just bought a tacoma and both the High pressure hose and it were already removed... it's the male nipple that screws into the rack, then the hose clamps on it back to the power steering pump.

at 10:38 you can see the return tube end fitting is attached to the top hole near the pinion shaft. i think that answers your question?

always fill system back up with front wheels of the ground and turn wheels to and fro, filling with wheels on ground and engine running can damage steering pump.

When you get to the lines in the rear all you have to do is follow the 2 back and unbolt the Bracket and that will give you extra play to slid it out and get to them easily

Yea this sounds and looks exactly how I work on cars. The only thing that's missing is all the trips to the auto parts and hardware stores to get the parts I broke or were broken already or that I didn't know I needed before hand and replacing striped or mismatched nuts and bolts.

Haha 😂. Yeah, I think of including those but then these videos would be an hour long!

Currently installing a 6" lift on a 98 Tacoma and this mf'ng rack and pinion has by far been the worst part. Pinch bolt loosened but i guess the metal to metal corrosion brought the 12" steering extension down with it from the steering column when I finally got it all to come down, so looking forward to getting that back in. Thanks for the video though, glad we are on the same page, I had almost all the same inner dialogue with a few more curse words.

Trying not to curse because my younger cousin watches sometimes. But in some videos I do let it rip and have to censor it lol.

Why did you spend money on new rack and use the old tie rods 😢
Money well spent to go ahead while it’s apart.

    • @ErikSeastead

That doesn't make any sense, imo. The tie rods were fine and they're very easy to get to when they do need to be replaced. 🤷‍♀️
