This song was written by a Scot loyalist who fought with the King. They had just lost a Revolutionary War battle in North Carolina against the rebels. The author then wrote this song.
@ The author's name was John MacRae from Kintail, Scotland. He emigrated to North Carolina around 1774. He joined the Loyalist army and fought at the battle of Moore’s Creek on the 27th of February,1776. The loyalists lost and he wrote the song, (I am weary of this exile).
Same with Spain; especially in the Northwest. In Galicia and Asturias, we happen to owe a lot of whatever "Celticness" is left in us, to the waves of Breton settlers that arrived here in the 5th and 6th centuries, fleeing from the Germanic raids and invasions of the British Isles and Gaul. The languages (Breton, and the indigenous Gallaecian, Celtiberian, among others) have long been lost; but at our core, a Celtic soul still remains.
@@beaed9296 Well; back then, the Welsh and Bretons were practically the same people (they both saw themselves as Britons) and spoke the same language, "Brittonic". The thing with the settlers is that most came from Brittany; but some did come from the Isles. Particularly, from Cornwall and Wales.
LOFE❤❤❤❤
Well yes but the premise is he is a Scot scraping by after Culloden, they couldn't wear plaid, tartan or speak Gaelic. He was tired so he came to America and fought with the British. They lost a battle and he became an outlaw and exile and the song says "and I am tired". The Rebels finally caught him and devised a rather brutal death because his songs were an inspiration. And they are an inspiration. I've listened to this 16 times!!!!
Thank you for the share on instagram. I had to listen straightaway! This is so amazingly beautiful! Love the scenery and seeing you sing again amongst the mountains ❤
Sgrùd sinne an dàn seo aig SMO dìreach an-dè. Tha e uabhasach àlainn is drùidhteach a chluinntinn bhuat a-nis. Mìle taing is sin thu fhèin! Meal do naidheachd is beannachdan mòra
I wonder what the rebels did to him when they caught him. In history it is said his songs were so inspiring especially for the Carolina Gaels that they devised an especially terrible death. Must of learned hanging, drawing and quartering from the British. That was their thing so I wondered what the hell the Rebels did to him??
At once I am homesick for a home I don’t know…❤

@@dferg5865 oh hell yeah! I know what im reading all day today
@@dferg5865seems strange to leave a country under a king’s rule to go to one trying to establish itself away from the same kings rule, no?
Thank you for highlighting this ❤
