Heydon is PRICELESS.
YOU GIRL ARE LUCKY.
I did say he was a keeper 😃.
Turns out I was right.
Loving how you are doing so well.
Keep Safe over there. From Devon. England.
Haha yes, he’s a keeper 😉
Reese is growing before our eyes. I have really enjoyed following along with your cabin build.
Reese seems to change every day! Glad to hear you enjoyed the build
You are looking very good now Karen since the birth....keep on looking after yourself.youre doing something right...to look that good..
Thanks David!
Hi Karen, you both turned this
into a very sucsessfull build.
The reality for us was a contractor supervised our house build, and cut corners.
We spent lots of money and time in the first 5 years rectifying the problems. So,lucky you were hands on.
We were too busy earning the money for somone else to do the work.(5 bedroom,4 bathroom). Reese ,is a sweetheart 🥰
I’m so sorry to hear you had a bad experience!!
Great explanation, and yes wood prices are ridiculously overwhelming to deal with...but the end product is wonderful...thanks for sharing... Vic
I really do hope wood prices drop back down soon…
Those extras, nails etc add up! I've found that in doing my second hand material van build. A real surprise. Baby is looking well good job.
Yes! All the little fixtures are a surprising cost
Interesting. I know how fast everything adds up. I have done my share of additions to my house.
Anything with wood or metal has jumped up in price during the pandemic. Some metals like copper have sky rocketed.
Glad you have the cabin. I cannot imagine you and Hayden and Reese only having the caravan or the bus.
The large window and sliding door were good choices. Always nice to be able to look out and you have a terrific view.
I have a big picture window on the front of my house, sufficiently large for the dogs to be able to see out while on all fours. They also love being able to see out, but for them it is to ensure there are no "invaders" to fend off by barking. LOL
Dave.
Aww I can just imagine your dogs peaking out the window
The cabin is so wonderful! I am always impressed that Hayden can get so much done by himself. You seem to be settling into motherhood!! We have five children and I think the first is the hardest, so many things to learn and adjust too.
There has been so much to learn!! Lovely to hear you have five
Arrr babs didn't take his eyes off you he,s grown so much x
This was good. If you had hired out the cabin build labor, the final cost would have more than doubled.
Both of you did an outstanding job- the meticulous build quality is highlighted in this video. Reese, and that vista, are dreams come true.
Yes, so glad Hayden has these skills!
You have a really cosy, well-built den with fantastic views, and nicely weather-proofed for the winter. What a great place for Reese to grow up, with plenty of outdoor space and a cosy home. Making the place more permanent can wait. It's been real fun watching the build and seeing Hayden in action. Thanks for all the videos.
It’s been toasty warm for winter. I just wish we could add a kitchen and shower too!
Off grid living isn't cheap, is it? The satisfaction you both must feel, however, in doing it yourselves is priceless. Having a consistent supply of hot water to shower and electricity via solar is really a priority now. Hopefully, since these videos are from awhile ago, you have these things sorted out. You and Reese are looking well.
We’ve got a Califont for hot water and set up a decent solar system too 😀 We’re slowly getting there
Great job breaking down the costs. Your son is absolutely precious! Poor little guy was being attacked by your beautiful long hair. Hayden is so amazing; what a cozy home he has constructed. You are both so talented. Greetings from California.
I hadn’t realised my hair was in the way til I was editing 🤣🤣 Hayden did a great job
Well done guys. I hope you are enjoying your new home.
You are looking really well! Im going to just buy a tiny home once i get land
Tiny houses are so lovely!
Done right, for sure. You both look great - I hope thing are going super!
Thanks!
Very well done ...Nails add up : )
Good explananation :)
Great to have an update and breakdown of costs. You have created a fantastic space for a very good price considering the cost of materials. I think a typical building is around $2000 per square metre currently
Well on the ceiling you could do a Dutch look with 1X4's on the seams stained dark to cover up the seams
bravo
good vid
Amen~!
That’s interesting. Always helpful to know the costs. The cabin was very well made and it will last for many years.
Hayden did a good job 😉
Yes, I wonder who much and ditt you have monny for alt that, godt to see you again!
Would you be able to list all the items that you used for the cabin, including the costs, please?
I'm a renter, I have a fluffy white cat..... and the current place we rent has dark grey carpet....yep, it's really obvious the fur and mess
That is not a bad cost to be honest. Understand it is slightly higher over in New Zealand. But a lovely little cabin non the less. Have to start somewhere.
It’s about what I’d estimated too!
Good news Karen Lumber prices have crashed at least on the wholesale level current prices on the Chicago mercantile exchange. This tends to set prices internationally .however there are still extensive high priced inventories which retailers will try to sell at reducing prices.I would suspect NZ is pretty much self sufficient in lumber .Demand always reflects demand driven by national house construction.I think your cost is very reasonable.
Reece is looking wonderful as are you .Take care good luck Luz ya lotsXX
That’s very interesting to hear 🤔 I wonder if it’ll affect NZ. At the moment, there’s a 5 month wait on construction wood apparently. Most of it is being shipped to China!
Reese is SO cute :D
I'm sure in England with Windows you would transport the frame and the glass separately ,then assemble them on site...
Is this NZ being more relaxed?
If everyman in NZ had Hayden s skills...domestic trades would be non existent....ive never seen him hire labour..skills,he does the lot.he can do anything he puts his mind to..
Hi from Danmark 🌍🌻🌈
Nice work looks cosy 🙂👍
Ah yes the cost of fixings, 😥 often over looked but never ever forgotten! I’ve had my a55 handed to me in a big way with that little gem 😉
How’s your build plan progressing?
Thanks for the cost breakdown. Looks really nice!. As a side note, your accent when you say the letter 'R' (such as 'builder')sounds exactly like ours here in Bristol Uk! Don't have long lost roots or relations here do you lol
G'day yung Reece, ya lookin real good lil m8, how you enjoying your self? You did real well with the cabin an Hayden with some help from Jack [?] did a real good job building it. You did a good job keep a track of the cost an all. You an yours stay safe an well now eh, winters here now.
Thanks Greg!! I’m hoping Reese is enjoying himself 😉 And was great getting Jacks help
Reece looks very much like Hayden.
I am curious to see how he looks in a year or too
Hello to the 3 of you hope your all well and great video and Wow I wasn't expecting the build to cost that much and your still not finished but Wow it is a great cabin but hope your OK all the best
It was a really useful exercise for learning about costs 😀
@@TravellingK ow good but at least it's nearly finished you have all done a amazing job well done Hayden you done amazing mate it's your winter over there isn't it how you getting on with it
Baby Reese stole the show 😉😍
🤣 He was noisy that day too!
@@TravellingK cherish every moment it goes incredibly fast.
Well interesting, Your looking lovely there Karen,. Next divide your land into building plots Get about 5 should work out most useful, Cheers
Thanks Derrick! Building plots? I’m keen to keep all this land 😉
Good to get an idea of costs. Buying a house is not realistically affordable these days and not worth the cost. We are looking at land and the possibility of a small cabin, but there are five of us so could get tricky hahaha.... Reese is super cute... growing so fast.
Ohhh that’s an exciting plan!
Hi Karen it should start getting warmer over there soon...
The Cabin is nice....
Maybe getting a 2nd hand Static Caravan would of been a cheaper optiion,it would just need some better insilation installing in the Walls,,Roof & floor...
A ready made home...
Just a thought...
You baby boy is looking content..
Bless him...
Take care....😘
Static caravans like in the Uk are very rare here and so are pretty expensive! Otherwise I’d gave happily got one. Looking forward to spring
@@TravellingK Ohh was just a thought, yes quite a few things are more expensive over in NZ,we are kind of spoilt for choice here in the Uk & they are quite cheap, but NZ is so much Quieter & scenery is breathtaking😊
Excellent report.. and lil puddins a cutie ..😍😎😁pip pips and carryon pilgrims
Thanks Patrick!
Out of curiosity were you paying RRP for the timber or did you have a trade discount at M10?
i want to know what the solar cost. you have done well . Douglas from Matamata
We got the solar kits from here: gridfree.store/collections/complete-off-grid-solar-kits
The biggest cost would have been the labour if you had had to pay someone to build it. Looks like a fantastic and extremely solid well built cabin😀
I read somewhere that labour doubles the overall cost??
KAREN & HAYDEN, hello, but if you DID NOT have your handy home contractor, you both would have spent a hell of a lot MORE, REESE. looking well, goo look to all stay well. Cheers 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yes, labour costs would have really added up!!
Be interesting where you go from here
Keen to talk about our ideas once we’re back on the land
The little poppet has grown
Karen your son is adorable 🥰 I can see another mummy cutting her long hair now that a child is grabbing it eating it and getting tangled in it hehe. In terms of the carpet showing marks of outdoors would you not just take your shoes off before going indoors 😂🙏🌸
Yes, I’m not sure how sensible long hair will be around Reese!
@@TravellingK lol yes we’ve all been there … maybe plaits or pony tails cause your hair is fab … but you would suit shorter too but I’d wait 😀💕
