Thanks for the hourly pay breakdown! I have 1000 cards listed so far and I sell 1 postcard a day on average. I'm happy with that for the amount of listing I have.
You will be amazed how it jumps when you get up to about 5,000 - 7,000 listings. Then you have to list more to keep feeding the
machine!
Right now I have 824 postcards listed in my ebay store. I'm almost at the point where I make sales every day. Just before I posted this I sold one that I just listed this morning. I have along ways to go before I hit 5-7K but I'm getting there. I love it when I'm working or watching your RUclips videos and I hear that "Cha-Ching" go off on my phone. :)
Yes that sound is always good to hear! As you grow you will hear it more often!
You never gave the price for the first postcard lol great video
I love all of the information you give in your videos
Thank you!
You are so welcome! I will have to rewatch it that one has Benn out there for a while :)
Didn't know about the ban on confederate flags; thanks for the tip. I'm starting to have a few postcards and need an organizational strategy to find them when they sell. i'll look through your videos to see if you've already done one.
I have Postcard Inventory video out there.
Hi, really enjoying your videos. Im new to selling postcards. i was wondering do you take any action on cards not selling after a certain time or do you just leave them?
I just list them and let them run. I have sold cards just today from years ago.
With the eBay Premium Store you can I think 50,000 listings in the Collectible Category for 59.95 a month. So really no extra cost to leave them up.
Mark
Mark - I've been selling postcards for about 4 months and am pretty good at determining the era of a card. The situation that stumps me once in a while is I have a card in very good condition and unposted. The back of the card just says "Postcard", has a description of the scenery, and has a stamp block saying "Place stamp here". I can't find anything that dates the card. No writing, nothing in the image. How can I determine if it is Chrome or Divided Back? I usually just err on the side of caution and list it as Chrome.
Rick that is probably one of my biggest struggles also, 90% of the time I can tell what era a card is but you get those that are
just on the edge of one or the other. The one you describe sounds like a chrome. When I cannot tell what era I normally leave it blank and let the collector decide or ask questions. One long time Postcard collector said for RPPCs if not sure leave it up to the buyer/collector most of the time they will know. One of the goals or hopes of doing these RUclips videos is I can gain some more knowledge on Postcards by interacting with Postcard people. I cannot wait for Postcard shows to start up has I just have a ton of questions just like yours I want to ask the experts about. There is just so many opportunities in selling Postcards. I might be weird but I really enjoy doing the Chromes and Linen cards the most. Guess with my age I can relate to those more.
@@SMPostcards I agree. I really enjoy Postcards too. I just tried them out as something different for my Ebay store. But being 57 I am getting more nostalgic and these fill that need for nostalgia. I also love learning new things about geography, locations, people, etc.
My wife said "I never knew you were into postcards". I said "Me neither!" :)
Your story sounds like mine, I'm 56 and retired about 1.5 years ago from a long career in IT Management for a major utility company.
I wanted to find something to do and Action Figures was the first step and then Postcards came around. Postcards have now started beating Action Figures in sales. I could list faster if I stop reading and looking at the cards !
@@SMPostcards I've been selling on Ebay for 15 years, but just stuff around the house once in a while. Then 5 years ago I went legally blind. I had to sell off all my hobbies - comic books, sports cards, golf clubs and wood working tools. I found I really liked reselling so I kept at it as it gave me something to do. It takes me longer due to my disability, but I found ways to cope and do things differently.
On the first card that you show, you mention the red writing. What does the red writing signify? A certain era or publisher? Thank you for this content, I always enjoy it.
Not sure if the Red color means anything special. When I review a Postcard the writing like this tells me to start at Divided Back era.
That is just from experience and what I have seen on Postcards.
@@SMPostcards thank you!
great job - how do your florida cards sell?
Thanks, Florida cards can be fast or really slow just depends on subject and location. Older Chromes seem to do the best for me. Beach scene also do good.
So you don’t use the tracking label? Only a stamp
This video was published before eBay Standard Envelope was introduced, and yes I used just a label and a stamp before then. Now I use eBay Standard Envelope, which has some tracking.
Oh great I’m happy now. Live your videos..and cards. ✨✨💫👍
In your experience, is there a big difference in sales between the 3 1/2 inch x 5 1/2 inch postcard versus the 4 inch x 6 inch postcard sizes? Thank you!
Yes Standard 3.5 cards sell way better than the newer Continental 6x4 cards. I do not list many 6x4 cards.
@@SMPostcards Thank you!
@@SMPostcards Out of curiosity... Why are the 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch cards more desirable? It really makes no difference to me, but I am new to postcards.
I would say due to the 6x4 cards being newer. I have a video on these cards and Jumbo cards.
@@SMPostcards Thanks. I'll check them out. As a newbie, I am trying my best to avoid buying a bunch of postcards that I cannot sell. Mistakes are learning experiences, but I want to avoid BIG learning experiences.
🥰
Thanks
I have manei old post card seal this
? Not sure I understand?
What if I got postcards from the 60's and don't want to do it myself-know anyone willing to buy them
Many ways 1. Leave a comment in my latest video what you have sometimes people will see it 2. Throw then in a box put on ebay or Facebook as a lot one price 3. Send me an email of what you have maybe I could be the guy or I will send the email to others. My email contact@shelmarksales.com
If you Sell a card that you've had a couple years, do you carry those inventory (cost of goods) dollars year to year?
Yes I do not expense COGS until the item sells in my accounting.
@@SMPostcards so you have multiple years of cog that you have to give your accountant?
do African American subjects sell -
Depends on subject, some Americana is banned from being listed. I have a video on 5 Banned Postcards on eBay.
