- Shadow Minister for Digital Economy Paul Fletcher says the government’s billion-dollar computer deal was clouded in “secrecy” and set up so that PsiQuantum could win.
The government committed to $940 million to the US start-up company’s bid to build a commercially viable quantum computer in Brisbane.
“This process has been clouded in secrecy, there was no public transparent expression of interest process to call for applications," he said.
“A small number of companies were invited to participate, as I understand it, but they were required to sign disclosure agreements.
“And as I understand it the terms made it look like this had been written so that PsiQuantum was going to be the winner.”
Corruption? I thought use of taxpayers funds need to be open and transparent.

Nobody in their right mind invests money like this. Untried technology? The scientific participants themselves have no real idea whether this Quantum technology will be viable scientifically or even more problematically as a commercial success.
The latest quantum computing breakthroughs are only at a technical "demonstration of concept" level, and even if successful have a very niche application.

It comes across that Labour loves to take money that isn’t it theirs to give to “companies” That ultimately will benefit them behind the scenes. This government must go. I would rather see Australian taxpayer dollars used to support a return of pharmaceutical manufacturing back to Australia.
