      @jason9022 Ok, nobody has these cars in good shape at a 2 grand price point. Especially now that they are considered classics. Check out what nice example 3rd gen Camaros and Trans Ams go for. Of course you get dealerships trying to sell them for ridiculous prices but you're going to pay a hell of a lot more than 2 grand for clean 3rd gens.

    I ordered a brand new 1988 GTA back in October '87.
    I opted for the 5.0 engine and 5-speed trans (which you couldn't order with the 5.7 engine).
    I also ordered the car with black cloth seats, t-tops, and analog gauges (much nicer than the digital crap).
    It was a great driving car that I regret ever selling.
    My wife told me (years after I sold it) that she once drove the car up and over a concrete curb in a parking lot.
    I'm still mad at her...

    • @rockytransaman8288
      @rockytransaman8288 7 месяцев назад

      @mrwp819300 The 350 5.7 liter were only available with the 700R automatic because the torque rating was too much for the Borg Warner T5 speed, regardless of what model 3rd gen F body IROC or GTA.
      Also the the Camaro/ Firebird 350 TPI had similar specs to the Corvette TPI, but only the Corvette's had aluminum heads for weight savings. So the engines were not exactly the same.

I bought mine with 74K miles on it and brought it back to show condition over the years. Later came some suspension and engine mods that made it own the big boys (Cobras and C5 vettes). Nothing but great memories and driving fun coming to mind! Lost it in a car accident some 15 years ago (not my fault), still miss it every day!

    Why trade that in? You could get exponentially more by selling it! Those 3rd gen F bodies are starting to hit their stride on the collector car market now and are bringing good numbers (not peaked yet) but good. Decent GTAs are selling for 10 to 15 grand. Nice low-miles GTAs are selling for 15 to 25 grand right now. I bet this dude didn't come close to that on trade!

      Yes, He traded it in for a new car but, How much did your shop accredit him for that highly sought after, low mileage, top of the line 3rd gen, Pontiac Trans AM-G.T.A.? I would not have accepted any less then somewhere between 20-23k.

    • @chucklucas5326
      @chucklucas5326 5 лет назад

      @@d.j.9961 That's a bit steep, but definitely worth far more than they gave for it! I'd venture to say they probably gave around 3 Grand for it, then, they're gonna ask probably around 10-12 Grand for it. What an IDIOT!! Whoever traded this in, that is!!!! I'm thinking it's a 305 car. I have one that's White with tan interior and Gold wheels. Mine's a 5.7 TPI Hardtop, but my alternator is on the opposite side of this one and so is my A/C compressor. I'm not sure, but I think that's how the 305 GTA's came. I bought mine from the original owner with 23K miles on it 21yrs ago. I've done just about every upgrade you can do to one of these. Getting my money together now for an LS and T-56 swap. And, mine has wheels just like these but in a 17×9. Hawks Motor Sports sells them and they're not cheap knockoffs either, they're made by the same company that made the original ones. Japanese Wheel Alloys. I have BFGoodrich G-force 275/40's all the way around it, they have the wide lip front and rear, looks Badass. Money well spent! The factory ones are 16×8 and the fronts have a wide lip and the rear has a narrow lip, don't know why they made them like that. The IROC wheels were the same, you can run fronts on the rear, but you can't run rears on the front. It's not as noticable on the IROC as it is on the GTA.
      This is a beautiful GTA though, I would have loved to got it!! Someone was an idiot to trade something in like this!!

    Not sure what you guys gave this guy for that car but at least your store will entertain these types of cars, my gm just turns anyone with a classic away. I haven’t seen a 3rd gen F-Body that clean and unmolested since I was a little kid and they were new

    Probably traded in for a damn Dodge Caravan, or something. People are convinced that kids won't survive in the back seat of a car, these days. I rode in the back seat of a 1970 Camaro, happy as a lark. I didn't know any better. We're spoiled. And, in this case, STUPID. But, someone's loss is another gem collector's gain.

    Guys if you plan on buying one consider your height if your six foot 4 inch you won't fit I'm 5'11" and my right knee was about 2 inches away from the steering shaft and that's all the way back

    I have a trans am 88 gta but with t-top and dark red paint. But i have rebuild engine to 383 and rebuild th700r4 to shift Hard. And remove both ac and egr. To fit headers and True dual exhaust 2,5"!

    • @trillrifaxegrindor4411
      @trillrifaxegrindor4411 5 лет назад +2

      no,you do not need to remove the ac,idiots do it because they arent bright enough to realize ac is one of the best options a car can have and interferes with nothing.

      @@trillrifaxegrindor4411 my ac was already broken and fixing is its more expensive then to repair the engine. You know i live in Sweden and here everything is expensive to buy from US. And besides i put money in engine instead... We dont have many days over 30+ degrees. So i can live without ac...
