I had the exact same car but with tan interior! Sold it almost 20 years ago but I miss it every day! The sounds when you start it up really takes me back in time...
My great uncle had one and we still have it. Sadly my great uncle died so we sold some of his vehicles but I'll be getting a '88 Trans Am which is what it was for a Christmas/ Birthday present when i pass my driver's test.
@jason9022 Ok, nobody has these cars in good shape at a 2 grand price point. Especially now that they are considered classics. Check out what nice example 3rd gen Camaros and Trans Ams go for. Of course you get dealerships trying to sell them for ridiculous prices but you're going to pay a hell of a lot more than 2 grand for clean 3rd gens.
T.F.D 1982 I KNOW!...I mean, if you’re ready to move on, then I’d want to SELL it to someone. It would have been fun to sell that car to someone, not to mention the difference in price you’d get.
I ordered a brand new 1988 GTA back in October '87. I opted for the 5.0 engine and 5-speed trans (which you couldn't order with the 5.7 engine). I also ordered the car with black cloth seats, t-tops, and analog gauges (much nicer than the digital crap). It was a great driving car that I regret ever selling. My wife told me (years after I sold it) that she once drove the car up and over a concrete curb in a parking lot. I'm still mad at her...
That's like a dream I've had for years, going back in time and seeing 10, 20 of these brand new cars parked on a dealer lot. I'd spend all day just browsing, checking out new 80's cars.
I think the Formula 350s are even more desirable than the GTAs today. Was few hundred pounds lighter than the GTA because it didn't have all the extra ground effects to weigh it down.
Nothing on the lot looks as good as this car. I have that problem every time I think about buying a new car. I want something that looks good and different from every a to b transportation model sold.
Christian Barrett 350s came only with automatic transmission and 305s with automatic and manual so manuals are not very often. About price, I’m from Croatia so I’m not sure but clean and low mileage third gens sometime have price over $12000, $15000
I had an 89 with the black mesh wheels and black interior 5.7 TPI auto. It was my first car bought it in 1999 traded it for a F-150 in 200 because I needed a truck. Man I wish I still had that car.
I sold Pontiacs that year and was an exhibitor for this car, same color,at the car show. What you failed to mention is whether or not it had the 5.0 or the 5.7!!!!!!The 5.7 car made me alot of money and was ALL the rage back then, but thanks for sharing, beautiful ride.😎👌👍
@mrwp819300 The 350 5.7 liter were only available with the 700R automatic because the torque rating was too much for the Borg Warner T5 speed, regardless of what model 3rd gen F body IROC or GTA. Also the the Camaro/ Firebird 350 TPI had similar specs to the Corvette TPI, but only the Corvette's had aluminum heads for weight savings. So the engines were not exactly the same.
My buddy got this car new and totaled it 2 weeks later but the silver lining is I was rebuilding an 82 firebird at the time and stripped it down for mine. Came out great…for really cheap too. Got to it before the insurance company did ahahaha!!!
Had one exactly like this, same color in & out, all digital, same interior and exterior options, same 5.7L TPI with 700R4 transmission, all options except leather on the seats. I bought mine with 74K miles on it and brought it back to show condition over the years. Later came some suspension and engine mods that made it own the big boys (Cobras and C5 vettes). Nothing but great memories and driving fun coming to mind! Lost it in a car accident some 15 years ago (not my fault), still miss it every day!
Had one, or my first ex-wife did, we called it her car, LOL. It was white diamond and had a very high $$ Alpine sound system(it was a show car). I'm a Trans Am nut and a GM person for the most part. But I had a Thunder Bird Super Coupe at the same time that would blow it away. That being said, the Trans Am was a cooler car and drew more attention.
I love your GTA trans am those were as popular as the IROC Camaro they were more expensive 25 k at the time. The GTA model was its own brand at Pontiac separate from the regular trans am
The 20th anniversary trans am was GTA at the base equipped with a 3.8 litre turbo Buick v6 previously used on the GNX its was a blast to drive the price was 30 k
Why trade that in? You could get exponentially more by selling it! Those 3rd gen F bodies are starting to hit their stride on the collector car market now and are bringing good numbers (not peaked yet) but good. Decent GTAs are selling for 10 to 15 grand. Nice low-miles GTAs are selling for 15 to 25 grand right now. I bet this dude didn't come close to that on trade!
Yes, He traded it in for a new car but, How much did your shop accredit him for that highly sought after, low mileage, top of the line 3rd gen, Pontiac Trans AM-G.T.A.? I would not have accepted any less then somewhere between 20-23k.

I noticed that the fog lights are missing in the lower openings of the front bumper... beautiful car, but makes me suspicious of why parts are missing from a car that looks so good.
I've seen a few Firebirds in good, stock condition here, in Lehigh Acres, Florida. A Formula, too. I agree with Trisha though, it's getting to that point where the GTAs are being garaged and collected by now, most of them in nice shape are going upwards of $15K these days. That's almost brand new price back in the 80s, lol.
