- Day 31 since buying 101 acres. It's time for some tractor time. We planned our move around using pallet forks on a tractor to do most of the heavy lifting. With pallet forks and 101 acres of trees in mind, we knew a tractor loader would be getting a workout from us on the new property. Because of that, I chose a Bad Boy 4035 tractor due to it's loader lifting capacity of 2,200lbs.
In this video I installed the SpeeCo quick hitch, a Piranha bar to the front bucket, and assemble and install the @woodlandmills WG24 stump grinder. I also chased a tire leak that I still can't find.

Jay, I used the bottom part of the steel crate to make a dolly to move the stump grinder around and out of the way when I'm not using it. It's perfect for that. I also used the top part of the crate to make a small workbench.
I've been following you since the little appartment workshop. The green Ryobi tools, nailer synced to music days.
Never seen you more settled and satisfied than at the mark of around 1:50.

When my father and I got a Case IH Farmall 55c Series II tractor, the very first thing I got for it was a quick hitch. I love it. I mostly use pallet forks on it to lug around a DIY "carry all" thing I built, but it makes short work of putting on a snow blower come winter time. The only downside with my setup is that I can't lower my hitch low enough to disengage some things, so I park these attachments on top of blocks or pallets. My goal is to make better rolling stands for these things to sit on but I've never gotten around to it.
I put a Piranha tooth bar on my little Kubota BX-22 when it was time to do the ground work for my shop building in the summer of 2022....it was a game changer. I removed about 30 tons of soil before moving 60 ton of modified stone to take its place and create the compacted pad. That tooth bar dug things out "like butta' " . You will find that yours will multiply your diffing power noticeably.
Look into having your tires foam filled. Even if you run over something sharp in the field your tire won't go flat and leave you stuck. It's not real cheap but, it might be worth it.
Take the bad (chiggers, poison ivy, etc) with the good (family, a chunk of land, memories, etc, etc). Keep the proper perspective-at the end of the day you have your wife and daughter that love you and ultimately that is why you do what you do. And on the realy positive side of things you don't have a snake bite. Be safe, be well, and looking forward to the next update.
I only have 2.5 acres. But my Kubota has been a godsend. There is so much I can do now without thought because of my tractor. We spread much today on 5 beds and barely broke a sweat. Great choice on getting your tractor. You will not regret it!
Makes me itch when you say poison ivy, and again when you mention chiggers. Good luck with your Big Project.
I remember camping as a teenager and ending up with chiggers in the underwear area. That’s was a first for me and gave me lots to think about when it came to further camping trips.
That's the worst.
Similar to Murphy's law, Youmans law is that whatever tool I need next is one that I failed to put back where it goes and a search ensues. I'm the only person I know that can never move from a spot and lose a tool while still in that spot lol! And likewise, if you have an object that doesn't have a particular place where it goes, anywhere you move it to will be the next spot you need to work in lol again! Love your vids!
Sometimes, with your tires, dirt/sand gets into the bead and as your using the tractor it lets the air out little by little. Unfortunately that requires pulling the wheel, breaking the bead and thoroughly cleaning the tire and bead rim.
I love using essential oils. For so many things. You are probably wondering… what the heck does that have to do with anything??? Well… the brand I use is doTerra. And the absolute best thing I’ve found to keep bugs away is a product they have. There’s actually two. One is just Tea Tree oil. But now they have a blend. It’s called Terra Shield. It comes in an oil or a spray. It’s the best thing I’ve ever used. And it’s natural so great for kids as well. My best friend went to a jungle and took the tea tree with her. Her boyfriend didn’t believe in “all that hocus pocus” and used traditional bug spray. He got ate up all over. She had like two bites. Their guide actually asked her for some and ended up using it. Try it!!!
Interesting. Our favorite mosquito spray is a lemongrass oil base.
Nice of them to give you a welding table base with your stump grinder.
I'm one of those, "Poison ivy doesn't affect me" people too. However, I've been lucky in that it has held true for nearly 53 years so far. Growing up in Michigan on 2 acres of our own land with hundreds of acres of public land butted up to our property, I'm very familiar with those damned little red crab looking chiggers. You couldn't walk out the front door without getting covered with them.
Another benefit of the Bad Boy over the Kubota, it's about half the price, if not less. They're made by the same company that makes Kioti so those Bad Boys are some... pretty bad boys..?
With the quick-hitch, you might want to look into the hydraulic top link. Makes hooking up to different implements a little easier.
It'll work with that rotary cutter. You just have to move the spreader bars to the outside of the bottom tabs. That'll move the pins out where you need them to be.
A hydraulic top link is on the bucket list for this summer. Holding off until after I get a box blade.
Welcome to my world circa 2001. We just bought a house and I was clearing the old fence row to install a new fence to keep the dogs safe. Not only was I sunburned the worse of my life but POISON IVY, ticks and mosquitos kicked my A$$! I can laugh some 26 years later but I was miserable for a SOLID month !!!

For your leaky tire buy some green slime , it goes in at the valve stem and then you drive around, and it coats the inside of the tire, plugging that
" Chigger" of a leak.
I've not had good results with that product. I put the recommended amount in my lawn mower tires and it didn't stop leaks. I put more in with the same results.
We call it a Brush hog in farming world
All you need now is a 1/4 plate
To weld to the top of the frame and you have a welding table
I was thinking the same thing when I saw that.
Another super useful addition to your tractor kit is a 'hydraulic top link' . It replaces the manual one for your 3 point linkage. I fitted one to my Kioti about 12mths ago, and now I don't know what I did without it.
It's really handy in conjunction with a boxblade or slasher (rotary cutter). You'd probably find it good with your stump grinder as well. Being able to tilt your implement on the fly from the drivers seat saves so much time.
Its definitely on my summer to do list. Saving it for after I get a box blade.
check your schreader valve on your tire
FLAT OUT tire sealant contains Kevlar fibers, and everyone SWEARS by it-those who installed it into their tires have reported that it’s been YEARS since they’ve had a flat, and these are people who ride/drive where they have goathead thorns.
I recently installed it into my rear bike tire, after getting a flat, and after inflating the tire afterwards, was able to ride it again, as if nothing ever happened-it gives me so much peace of mind. When I got a flat, I was fortunately only about 2 miles from home, so I called my sister to come pick me up in the minivan. I could easily have been further away, with no one to help (it was also at night), so I love this extra bit of insurance. 🙏
5 gal bucket ..load up with dawn soap and water and pour over tire..small leak will shop up..used this on my tractor
Oak n Ivy is a poison ivy/oak/sumac soap. You MUST wash with it several times a day, but it works, it removes the oil.
Imagine you worked on a greasy old truck axle, the way you scrub that off your skin in the way you need to scrub for poison ivy, and you will see exactly where you missed
i have had better luck with Pat's Quick hitch over the quick hitch. I have found that Pat's quick hitch fits more implements than the quick hitch.
Instead of buying a new PTO shaft for the wood chipper, consider getting a PTO Link kit. It's basically a quick-connect that makes it super easy to connect and disconnect the PTO shaft. As a side effect, it adds just enough length to make up for most quick hitches.
I bought the PTO Link partly so I wouldn't have to get a new shaft for my tiller when I added a quick hitch. But I mostly got it because hooking up and unhooking the PTO on my Kubota B2601 was a total pain. It's a small tractor (Kubota's 2nd smallest) and there's not much room to work back there.
I have lift capacity envy after hearing about your Bad Boy. It looks like a nice tractor. My little B-series lifts only around 950 pounds max. I recently bought a Hammer A3-41, and my tractor could barely lift it, and only a couple inches off the ground. (Fortunately that was enough to get it off the trailer and into my shop.) But I only have around 1.3 acres, so I wouldn't want a much larger tractor
Some days were just not meant to be. 😬. No problem with Bees or Mozzies, it's the sand flies that get me. I itch for at least a week. I always wear long pants and boots when I'm in the bush. we have lots of nasties here in Australia.

When I bought my JD in 2021 I didn't know about the Speeco quick hitch so I bought the Imatch with the JD. It works great but you need the bushings. I started watch Good Works as well and wish I bought the Speeco, although I don't change implements that much so it has not been a big deal but the quick hitch is great!!! Also I had my tires filled with Rim Guard and love it so far but you are right if you get a hole in one it will be a mess but having the extra ballast is worth it to me.
If you use Skin-so-soft (an Avon product) it will keep chiggers away. I use it because I can't stand the smell of deep woods off. As far as the poison ivy, there is Technu product that may help your itchiness. It's kind of expensive but it works really well for me. I hope this helps!
Hey Jay, I have watched you for many years. Congrats on the land! Looks pretty awesome! I personally think you would find much less mud if you used gravel on your pathways (at least on the major paths).
I bought a Woodland Mills log mill about 5 years ago and it has been an amazing piece of equipment. I think it was a good choice on the stump grinder and chipper from them. I believe they will last for years!
Hopefully things all go smoothly for your future shop and house builds and I will be watching your YT channel for all the updates!
We're going to gravel the driveway. According to google earth, we currently have approximately 6500' of established trail and approximately 6700' of new trail to create. I can barely afford gravel for the 1400' driveway. Most of the mud issues we face right now are being resolved. Mainly drainage.
Need to get there saw mill also.
I feel your pain brother Jay. I used to be completely tolorant with Poison Ivy, I won't explained with my troop of Boy Scout, some are and some aren't and proved my point wallaring around in a patch of PI with no ill effects. Not one of my proudest moments in my late 20's, but did cover my tail side NOT to try this to the scouts. But finding in my later age (60's) that things change so I don't chance it anymore LOL

Pat's quick hitch is way better than those fixed width quick hitch ones. That's what I use on the farm. You can have any width 3 point implement (my implements are all different old and new) It's not a fixed width

Relative's land. My wife's family compound has a combined 270 acres that are all connected. This tractor shed is on the land.

With them being as thin as they are if you have a brake shop close by see if they have a brake pad sheet that they can take one of your discs with you to make discs out of the brake pad sheet
They will last a lot longer than the thin discs that came with the pto
I did that on my 15ft mower never had a problem after that

Yes. Lots of em. Mississippi is home to 6 venomous snakes.
Do yourself a favor and buy a battery-powered grease gun. The easier you make it to maintain this equipment, the more likely you will be to maintain it. Sorry to hear about the poison ivy - miserable stuff. Maybe you need MORE exposure to it to build up a tolerance? ;-)
Rei sells some DEET 100% & other chemical repellents for ticks/chiggers. Don't get either on you, just spray clothes.
That itch is miserable.
Some more random thoughts as I'm just getting 5 minutes into the video...
1. You are going to have to figure out a way to deal with the poison ivy. Certainly not good for your health. I'm thinking burn it up with a flame thrower....
2. I think you're going to have to learn to weld...if you don't know how already. (Put this in the category of 'Things I already know....')
1) This video was shot 2 weeks ago. The best solution is prevention. Long sleeves and pants when going near it. Also, never burn poison ivy if you can help it. The smoke reeks the same havoc the oil does on your skin to your lungs.
2) I do know how to weld. Not professionally, but nothing I've welded broke at the weld. Ugly, but works.

Seven year itch is a real thing. Our bodies change, from mind to chemistry. Marriage becomes divorce. Men/women learn that nature rules throughout our lives. It’s a true country life. Kind glad your getting much of the done at same time besides divorce. I don’t wish that on my enemy and my divorce was simple and cheap. Just life changes are known to go where you don’t expect them overall is the point.
So what's worse? Poison oak or poison ivy? Last time I tangled with that stuff I had leaking pustules on my legs. My arms had it too. Ended up having to get a steroid shot.
