Then came this video, a cover of You'll Miss Me When I'm Gone USING the idea of the Cup Game to create the beat. Then Pitch Perfect used the idea. From what I've talked to people about and looked up, this is how is goes. Please do not be angry if I'm incorrect on any of this, but I'm 90% sure this is the line of history.
Actually, "When I'm Gone" was first recorded by the Carter Family 'way back in 1931. Lulu and the Lampshades (who are British) covered it in 2011. Then Anna Kendrick picked it up, which is when it showed up in "Pitch Perfect."

This is an old traditional tune called "When I'm Gone," someone changed a few lines in it and somehow people are calling it "The Cup Song." Believe it or not, music did not begin in the year 2000. Not sure how this song got ripped off with no acknowledgement to its roots.
