It's obvious. French, German, Chinese and other Governments have a very high proportion of Engineers as MPs. We have very few. So our select committees and commissions can barely ask the right questions, and have insufficient visceral understanding of the issues to qualify the replies. That PPE degree at Oxford is the entry ticket for the mentally challenged progeny of the wealthy. I've been there, they really are "nice but dim". Theresa May did History. Johnson did Classics. The last PM to do a hard subject at Oxford (Chemistry) was Margaret Thatcher.
Wait till you see the cost of netzero. To replace our grid with full renewables will cost £3 trillion. To upgrade our properties to 80% efficiency£4 trillion. To replace all the transport fuel and all the heating and hot water with elec will cost. another 6 trillion, and to provide battery backup to renewables will cost a minimum of 30 trillion at todays prices based on reports that USA would be $350 trillion. Our govmt are only costing replacement of our grid which is only 25% of the 2050 target
On another topic, I note in the paper this morning that Hunt is not including any change to Inheritance Tax in the November budget. No surprise there then. That'll please the envy mob out there.

HS2 was a crack pot idea, to solve the problem move England north to Yorkshire or Lancashire....
