In Bratislava was signed Piece of Presburg (Pressburg, Poszony, Presporok former names of Bratislava) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_of_Pressburg_(1805)

00:06 I am a native Californian that received a thorough education in geography at more than one school. In each geography class, Slovakia (and the Czech Republic, too) was considered "Eastern Europe." East of "Eastern Europe" was referred to as the "former USSR" in all my classes, even in university. Funny to consider that even what I considered a thorough education in the USA has kept me ignorant all these years.
Hi, thanks for the comment. Maybe there are two views to be considered. Politically it was only Western and Eastern Europe, divided by the Iron Curtain during the Cold War. But that hasn't been the case for more than 30 years now. Prague is geographically more west than Vienna for example. Geographically speaking there are more areas in Europe than just east/west. There is Northern Europe (mostly Scandinavia), Western Europe, Southern Europe (all the Mediterranean countries), the Balkans, Baltic states in the North-East, Eastern Europe (like Ukraine, Belarus and European part of Russia). And then there is the area in the middle which is Central Europe. Usually it's these countries: Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland. From Wikipedia: The concept of "Central Europe" emerged in Germany and Austria in the 19th century as "Mitteleuropa". Central Europe is known for its cultural diversity; however, countries in this region also share certain historical and cultural similarities.
@@tommyandpeter Thank you for taking the time to reply. I learnt the concept of "Mitteleuropa" when I was studying the 18th century art historian Johann Joachim Winckelmann. Winckelmann was born in Stendal (former Holy Roman Empire, present-day Germany). He died in Trieste (former Habsburg Monarchy, present-day Italy). The 19th century hadn't yet arrived when Winkelmann lived and died. Nonetheless, when I was studying him, I kept wondering, "Who is this art historian from Germany? How was he cool enough to magically become friends with Maria Theresa, Queen of Bohemia and Holy Roman Empress? Why did the Holy Roman Empire split into Germany and Austria during the 19th century?" Since a lot changed between the eras of the Holy Roman Empire and "Mauerfall," it's easy to get lost in the complexities and nuances.
I love your energy and chemistry together. I think we would be good friends as well. I have been to Bratislava two years ago. It was also a one day trip from Vienna with the catamaran and I loved the city. It is not overcrowded with tourists and it kept its soul. I will come back anytime in the future. Glad you liked our trip to Bratislava 😉 We were looking more into gelato and for example all the Czech recipes for home-made ice cream are with cream. So it looks like all ice cream in Europe would be actually what North Americans call gelato and maybe they have some B-level ice cream there made of milk only 🤔 In the name ice cream it says "cream", so that is how it should be 😁 We are finally getting some rain here too and we are happy about that, because everything has been so yellow and dry...

For Americans everything Slavic is Russia or sssr so it is east Europe lol. Even Croatia is part of central, from Serbia is east.. hey let me ask you something, my great grandfather came from Slovakia to Croatia in early 1900 as a very young, my cousins found in the attic very old papers which almost felt apart, like a newspaper in 5 different languages with bunch of names, one of the languages was German, so I managed to translate it, kinda odd German, newspapers are from 1915 and were actual list of injured, wounded, died and captured in ww1. As usual great video and you should keep Johnny permanently, he is having great influence on your guys.. Btw Bratislava is more progressed than Zagreb, you will not find gay bars in Zagreb publicly having rainbow or what ever. You have to ask some local gay about them.
Hi, there is a town called "Ilava" in Slovakia, try searching for it on an online map. Don't know what the other region could be. So interesting having such records...
