So 10 years with a cruel narcissist was a lesson? I’m freaking exhausted, depleted, embarrassed, humiliated and drained! I thought you were supposed to be wiser as you get older! What a nightmare!
Talking from my personal experience, definitely helped me setting boundaries, not look the other way to red flags that were there from the very beginning, not believe in the best of people and their potential, taught me about self love and putting myself first. Being good to people who have no problem to put me down, gaslight me, dismiss me, try to make me doubt myself, who take zero responsibility or accountability was a major red flag from my side. Having the strength to walk away when I need to was also very important to learn! Not a nice lesson for sure but a very needed one in my case!
Been through several with both family and romantic partners. Therapy helped me see that I was allowing these people to control me. Narcissist are great at manipulation. I've seen extremely smart and confident friends and coworkers fall prey to Narcissistic abuse. The key to healing is realizing that all the shame you feel comes from the abuse and the wounding of the ego. Narcissists are great at finding codependent empaths to compliment their codependent narcissism.

I learned that I actually do deserve better. I also learned to be even more grateful for every truly kind and respectful person and other similar beings and never take them for granted, or neglect my relationship with them just to please an ungrateful energy vampire. These are among the most important lessons that I learned after being surrounded by energy vampires that include narcissists.
Self love is the key after this draining experience. Wishing you gentle healing and remember you are a goddess that someone with no self esteem,was trying to take your shine temporarily. You are so worthy 🧡
