I'm 82 and been taking bio-identical hormones since aged 54. I'm totally healthy. I also eat only organic. Rarely sugar, wheat or dairy and exercise most days for 60 years.
@@2brunhildaI think wrinkling is genetic. Have you tried using a retinol? Also AHA for exfoliating once or twice a week. Retinoids are great for cell turnover and smoothing out wrinkles. It's never too late. Good luck! I forgot always sunscreen and reapply every two hours
I've been in menopause for 25 years due to a total hysterectomy at 29. I am 55 now and recently learned about HRT. I get my first pellets on Friday and I can not wait! My tendons and ligaments have hurt for so very long and my body sounds like it is slowly deteriorating. Thank you for sharing! You are an inspiration, Barbara! :)
Your very similar age to my mum. She’s 70 in 2 months. She’s struggled for years since she went through menopause. I wasn’t sure if this info applied to her at 70. Lots of mention of age 60. Great to hear you’ve been prescribed HRT. Going to look into this for her. Can I ask if you were prescribed testosterone also? Many thanks 🙏🏻
I am so glad I saw this video as I have been taking Bio-Identical hormones for donkey years now and could never stop. The advantages are even more for me than you mention: If I take less my hair starts falling out, I cannot sleep, I get digestive issues, I become depressed or very emotional, anxious and get stress incontinence! It helps me physically emotionally and mentally in every way! Thank God for estrogen, I can recommend for every woman after 50. I am 76 now and will never stop taking them!
I'm glad it worked for you do whatever works!! I couldn't take hormones increased monthly flow to dangerous level had to stop. If it works take it!! They're back and forth with H replacement anyway.
We were lied to. 76 with breast and thyroid cancer. Was told no help with symptoms. Started estradoil from urologist due to recurrent UTS happening monthly. GAME CHANGER! NOT ONE UTI IN A YEAR! Oncologist agreed even though I'm estrogen receptive breast cancer. This news will benefit so many women. My 50 yr. old daughter will have a better menopause and quality of life than I have.
When your mother lives until 94, her last forty two years lived without any hrt, had broken bones and repeated UTI’s one of which ultimately led to sepsis and death……you don’t want to hear about the risks of cancer (when no direct family members have had). We are not supposed to live 40 plus years without hormones
Thank you so much... seeing this has made me feel much better....I'm 66 and have been suffering for years ( 12 years since the menopause)...i've seen my doctor recently and have just started on hrt but was feeling anxious...I don't feel so bad now...
i'm like you, 60 now, went into menopause at 40- never took HRT- would love to start them if i could find a doc too help, they demand a mammogram first which i don't want to have done...grrrrr
@@rosalia6119 Google North American Menopause Society and find a Dr on the list near you. They should be able to help you. And NOT require a mammogram!!
Where do you get your hormones. I have Been told no from the beginning. I was on it for 1 1/2 years when menopause started and when the old study first came out no one will give it to me. I’m tired of hearing no.
I went through menopause at 40-45 and now am 48, I thought I was to old for hrt so now thank you, I might have this discussion with my doctor, the anxiety I’ve been going through from it have been horrible, as well as physical symptoms. I would love to see change.❤
I went through menopause at 51. I’m now 61 and will be 62 soon. HRT was never something discussed with me by my dr and even she had I probably just would have said “I want to do this naturally”. My biggest issue in the last 11 years is my sleep. It has steadily gotten worse and worse. I’m still very healthy but, it’s taking a toll on my body, I can feel it. I feel like I look a lot older in the last few years. I really feel like my lack of deep, restful sleep is the key to this feeling. My struggle has been finding a dr who will really consider putting me on HRT at my age. 😢
Hmmmm...I'm in your exact situation. 61 years old, menopause in early 50s, reluctant to take any drug I didn't feel like I had to, etc. NOW I am getting ready to ask my doctor about HRT. Wish me luck. I'm sorry you can't find a doctor to help you...wish me luck and I wish YOU luck!
Some of these Doctors are jealous that you are doing something to keep them from coming to them..HRT is ground breaking when it comes to my bones... I feel amazing....
This is the first menopause/HRT info video I’ve watched and haven’t cried because I’ve been denied HRT for no other reason than that damn (not the word I’m actually thinking), flawed study. I work in the Medicine Residency at one of the largest programs/hospitals in Boston and recently, a few physicians there presented at DGIM rounds how HRT is so beneficial and should be the standard of care- to the shock and confusion of all the MDs on the zoom. I’m more than 10 years out-my periods stopped at 45, and much damage has been done, but hopefully, I can find someone here who will at least have the conversation with me…🙏🏼
Same here. I'm hoping that if I start HRT now (at 70), that it will slow bone loss enough to keep me from getting osteoporosis (I am getting close to that diagnosis).
I am 70 years old and even though I have worked in healthcare field for over 30 years no one would give me hormones. I am going to find someone to prescribe them for me. I have had it
My oncologist just put me on Premarin 0.625 because I just had surgery for squamous cell carcinoma Vulvar cancer because of menopause I had a hysterectomy in 2004 back then they would tell patients to get off it although I got Premarin after hysterectomy then I started having alot of issues but right now I am going into full recovery I am sure I will feel alot better. I am 70years old. I will apply on Vulvar Libia area only where surgery was done for Cell growth in the area. Sharing my story for Ladies
@denisewittman975 This is way too strong and not balanced for most women. I believe the estradiol patch and oral progesterone is a better option for most.. and easily controlled. Biote is an injected pellet that can't easily be removed if a woman has issues with it.
So glad I came across this video. I got most of my questions answered. Can you talk about the combination of estrogen and progesterone for women after 65 who have never been on HRT. Benefits, types, length, creams etc. Thank you!!
My mum had a terrible menopause around 50. She has never been the same since. She still suffers with episodes of low mood which started during menopause. She is now 70 and I’m so sad for her as she aches all over and often very low in mood. I have thought HRT might be helpful for her for sometime. Is it worth looking into for her at age 70? Thanks 🙏
I'm 62 and went through menopause at age 50. My Gyn prescribed HRT (answered my questions, not her fault), but I was still on the fence because of some of the studies. Your information has put many of my questions to rest. Thank you!
I had Endometrial ablation for fibroid, tumors, and heavy bleeding when I was 48 in 2010 I was told that my periods would stop so I never knew when I went into menopause and I never was offered any HRT thank goodness I did not have any severe symptoms of menopause. I went to hear Dr Mary Claire Haver in Beverly Hills for a seminar this June wow what an eye-opener I them went to go see my doctor she told me I was past 10 years and she would not advise it and that menopause was a normal transition in life I mentioned Dr Mary Claire Haver. I brought the book with me and a video, she wrote everything down, and sent me for labs and a cardiac score. At the age of 50 I started to notice that my cholesterol was going up every year. I eat clean I exercise 3 to 4 days a week. I don’t eat out. I don’t eat process foods. I just couldn’t understand why my numbers were so high, come to find out it’s a result of lack of estrogen because of Dr Mary Claire Haver & Dr Avrum Bluming I am now on a good road to get some relief. I will be receiving my Estrodial and progesterone the lowest dose on Saturday, since my labs were good. I have decided to move forward with hormone therapy. We have been cheated all these years thank goodness for this new generation that is doing everything they can to help the millions of women around the world. I received my help through Alloy
So so helpful. And what a relief!! I can’t imagine my life without my hormones. They would have to lock my up in a memory care unit within a few months of stopping them. Haha! Thank you for being a voice of reason…and hope for us ❤
Thank you so much for your intelligence and continual education and sharing. Women's health seems to be overlooked., so having doctors like you who care enough to stay up to date and to take care of us is a blessing! Also, I appreciate your attitude that the patient, being advised by their doctor, is in charge of their own body and decisions about it.
I went to a Gyno (a menopause specialist) a few days ago hoping for HRT for fatigue, moodiness, brain fog - and she told me NO because I'm 61. She also went ON and ON and ON about vaginal dryness because she said that i "MIGHT want to have sex when I'm SEVENTY ONE!" Oh she was HORRIBLE. She told me about the 2002 study, about "Bioidentical hormones" and all KINDS of shit that's already online, even after already telling me that I was too damn OLD because "plaque/arteries." I mean sure, I'm old, but I have NO other health issues, plus I exercise, eat right and am strong as a damn horse. I wouldn't even be ASKING for hormones if I had any other options.
I am so sorry you went through that.. You must find another Dr... I went to my primary care physicians office and was seen by the NP, who I always see, and love, and I was equipped with all the positive things that HRT can do for us older women. I'm 59 and in better health than her, her words..lol She had no problem starting me on a low dose of an estradiol patch and oral progesterone.. We are going to check back in when I have my annual with her in November.. Please don't give up on finding another Dr. Best of luck to you!!!
Yes I was at my orthopedist today and when I told him I was planning on taking estrogen he said, “That ship has sailed”. It’s my ship and I still have it. If my mammogram is negative then I should be able to take estrogen.
Can I ask what you take, dosage and how you take it? I'm 61, tried different kinds and delivery systems and settled on oral. I have been on for many years but my doc wants me off them now. I don't really want to get off.
Early menopause at 44. I was such an emotional and physical mess. Mother had breast cancer and gyno basically said put on my "big girl panties" and not take additional risk. Well at age 50 I got breast cancer anyway and was diagnosed with osteoperosis on top of that. New docs and they insisted get both breasts removed and go on HRT. I am in the best mental shape since I began menopause and bone numbers looking great! Biggest regret is not doing HRT early.
I have been taking bio identical hormones since I was 46 , I had no estrogen. I’m 60 now and very healthy. My doctor is doing everything she can to make me get off of them. I will change doctors if I have to.
I’m 63 and use separate bio identical progesterone and estriol/estradiol creams. I had a hysterectomy at 47 so was told that I couldn’t have progesterone. I insisted that my doctor give a prescription and ever since my blood pressure has been perfect - very high before taking progesterone. Upper body strength from weight bearing activities like the gym; gardening and doing housework builds bone density.
I am so happy i saw this video. I am 65 year old . In menopause at 62 . I asked many my doctor about HRT and she always said that studies are not clear about it. and i was discouraged. I am in a very good health. a few years ago my blood pressure started going a bit high and I discovered i have osteoporosis ( it is in my family) but i would like to stopped . Now i am feeling more confident about this topic.
Thank you. I am 63 and have been struggling for years. Have a tube of testosterone in my drawer but never used it. The Dr was not very forthcoming about what was going on with me lots of monkey mind going on. I am definitely going to get on the program!! 🙏🏻💕
Thank you very much for this video. I've been searching for this sort of information. I'm 62 and have never had any kind of HRT and I'm looking for answers. Thanks again!
At 69 I started back on HRT last week. Never should have stopped. HRT actually reduces cancer risks & strengthens heart & bones. Women have been misled about hormones ! I'm through menopause, but I never got my energy back. My heart started "fluttering" again too. The whole time I was on HRT, I stopped worrying about my heart.
Hi. When you said your started fluttering, was that when you were off HRT or after you started again? I’m asking because within months of being taken off HRT, I started having heart palpitations, tachycardia, anxiety, etc. I am 69 years old too. I had a full hysterectomy in 2001, was put on HRT in the hospital and took it until the dr took me off at age 65. I first attributed it to the pandemic but the started researching HRT. I suffered for over two years, symptoms have leveled out but I’m still concerned about heart and bone health (not to mention thinning care and dry skin ugh). Did you have addl symptoms off HRT? Thanks
I recently had a lump ectomy for a very small cancer, they took me off my HRT which I’ve been on for 12 years, I’m 65 years old. Almost exactly one month after taking me off my HRT., I can’t sleep. I’ve started to cry every single bone in my body and joint aches.. I am going to press to be put back on it when I see the specialist next week , if not, I’ll have to go online and buy it. For me, it really is quality over quantity of life .
I had problems with spotting and I found that I had polyps in my uterus! I had them removed and did not use anything for awhile as I was told the estrogen was what caused them. After more research I am now using a lower dose and have had no problems. I do also take progesterone and testosterone. I also just had a bone scan that came back great and a normal mammogram. Life is good at 82!
I am so glad I found you. I am 64 and have been menopausal for over 10 years. Probably 3 years ago I started HRT with testosterone and progesterone only. Then, maybe a year ago, I began an estradiol cream. One professional told me I needed it for quality of life. My labs are still low, and another professional said I could stop it. However, without the estradiol, I was grumpy. I really do not want to stop using any of my HRT. Planning to continue, especially after watching your video. Thank you so much.
BLESS YOU! I went through menopause at age 38 when Premarin was the only game in town. I tried it, but it made me sick; then I found out how it was made so refused it on ethical grounds. I'm 74 now and looking for relief from a litany of typical post-menopausal symptoms - dry skin, loss of muscle mass, weight gain, sleeplessness, etc. We have one menopause specialist in town, and I think it's time to book an appointment with him to try estrogen. I'll never know if I don't give it a go, right?
Thank you so much!! I’m 62 and I’ve been on hormones for probably a decade. I had a scare that I might have heart disease (which is looking like it’s actually only stress due to upcoming divorce) and my Dr. Made me stop my oral HRT. I’m having hot flashes again and my libido has plummeted. I don’t want to stop HRT. I’m going to tell her I want to know about the sub-dermal I think you said? I’m going to watch your other videos. I don’t want to start my post-divorce life without HRT!!
Congratulations Dr Susan on your bone density improvements. That's my issue. I'm currently not on MHT doing bone loading exercises and bone healthy diet but am still nervous about the long term sustainability of that as I age. Thank you. This has encouraged me to look into hormones further - not just estrogen. Progesterone and Testosterone too. Anita xx
I just turned 65 in July. I've lost 58 lbs (started at 234.6) since March, and after keeping diary of blood pressures twice daily for a month, was able to get off my 25 mg Losartan. I'd had an ischemic stroke in 2019 with no residual deficits. I'd been on HRT patches previously, but after my gynecologist retired, the new one I saw took me off the patches and put me on pills. I didn't ask why, just trusted that he knew best. My cardiologist checked my heart calcium score, and it was zero. I had no blockages in heart, neck or head. I wore holter monitor for a month, with no issues. I have seen cardiologist in person or the heart clinic nurse practitioner annually since then. I've seen my doc & had labwork just last week that was excellent, and my PCP said my heart sounds perfect. If I ask her for transdermal HRT, is there a certain name for the preferred one - one that my Medicare Part D won't deny? I don't see my gynecologist again until January, and I'd really like to start the HRT therapy - I have occasional hot flashes, but HORRIBLE vaginal dryness, no sex drive, and just generally have NOT felt as good since I went off HRT. I really don't want to put it off any longer! Estradiol vaginal cream is truly a hassle!
Thank you so much for all of your wisdom and explanations! I have shared your videos (and will continue to do so) with some of my clients (I am a Holistic Health Coach) and on a couple of Menopause (Surgical Menopause) groups on Facebook. You will now be one of my go to physicians to lead people to! I am a friend of Dr. Rebecca Glaser, and point to her research consistently, as it is so very important for us all! Again, thank you!!!
Thank you for this video. I recently heard this from someone else (not a doctor) who insisted you need to stop by age 65. Supposedly, they claimed, women who take hormones, even BHRT, will have strokes. Nothing was mentioned about taking it orally. I started researching it immediately. So thank you. I'm really glad I stumbled upon your videos. I am now a subscriber. I should have figured it wasn't an issue because my amazing female gyno knows my age and said nothing about stopping my hormones. Again, thank you!
Thank you so much for your opinion on your wisdom and research on HRT! I was using a transdermal patch for years after doing my own little bit of research after which I felt it would be in my best interest to take it. That was until a nurse practitioner asked me 'Doesnt it bother you taking Hrt for all these years?' I told her definitely not! But she insisted I should come off Hrt which I wasn't happy about. I was so annoyed at myself for letting her talk me out of it! 18 mts later I decided to go back and try to get my Hrt prescribed again, this time I made an appointment with the doctor, he was a newer doctor to this practice and younger. He had no problems with prescribing me my hrt patch again and I am delighted to be able to be taking it again! For a long time I've always been a great believer that women should be able to take a safe form of hrt if they are healthy enough to be able to do so! I am now 68 healthy, and really happy to be using my patch again!!
For those of you whose docs say no, an ND will probably help you. My MD said no and told me to go to a functional medicine doctor. I'm 60. so I found a naturopathic doc, and she was up on this current info and prescribed me .05 estradiol patch 2x/wk, plus natural micronized progesterone, 100 mg each night (but I cut the progesterone troche in half many nights because progesterone causes me to be lethargic and irritable, so I self adjust and was told to be sure I take it at least 12 nights per month, to counteract endometrial lining buildup from the estradiol.) My insurance in Oregon covers the naturopathic doc and the medications, including the compounded progesterone troche (oral melts in mouth.) Question for the doctor here: would a transdermal micronized progesterone cream ever be preferable over oral? Thanks for this v reassuring content!
I had to fight to get on HRT, my 38 yr old F PCP was so against it. When I asked her about it, she said you can if you want, tho must stop as soon as possible. Then, made an offhand remark about her F patients who have had strokes prior to seeing her. She said the patient will ask, “ do you think it was my HRT?” & her reply was “Duh, of course”. Still so much misinformation from physicians
Same here. Dr gave me warnings again and again and finally prescribed it but it's the pill form of estrogen. I'll have to call and change it to the patch. I don't have symptoms other than mild hot flashes or so I thought. I can't sleep and if I do , wake up 2, 3 times a night and my skin has been pretty good but in the last year or so, aged so much etc. I didn't think they're menopause related. Too late for certain things but I am hoping it doesn't get worse from here on out.
Ladies, you have to seek out a doctor who specializes in this. Most doctors don’t. There weren’t many in my area that did. I think this is why so many doctors don’t know much about this.
I’m popping in to say don’t automatically rule out a male doctor. After trying 3 different female doctors and no one wanting to even discuss hormone therapy, I went to my current doc. He wasn’t thrilled about it (I’m 61 but menopause at 56). We talked about my risks, and I told him what I had learned in my research. I already have osteopenia despite many years of a job involving heavy lifting and that’s my biggest concern.
Thanks for that. I'm a Brit of 71 and am boning up (no pun intended) to obtain body identical HRT from my GP Practice. Am having a phone consult on Friday and want to be able to fight my corner as I anticipate I'm going to be told all the things that came up in this video. One sister, now passed had breast cancer and a multitude of other health issues but she had been on heavy anti-psychotic drugs for decades which coshed her mentally and physically. My other three sisters, my mother and both grandmothers do not or did not have cancer. Fingers crossed
I take bio-identical topical creams purchased online, no prescription. Hot flashes are greatly reduced, not eliminated but WAY better than w/o. I'm 79 & thought I was an oddity for STILL going through this.
May I ask you how and where did you get them online with RX and how are you monitoring this , I’m 62 and I’m looking for help cause both my primary and gynecologist both just blow me off 😢
My gyno retired in 2020.. and I haven't seen anyone since then. I am 55. When I was in my 40s I had really bad cramps and chronic fatigue. My gyno told me I was TOO YOUNG to be in perimenopause. I am reading all these forums and realizing how i was pooooorly advised. I have cortisol dysregulation and I suffer from all sorts of symptoms.. Lack of libido, weight gain etc.. and I realise I have lost years now potentially of quality life... I am so frustrated in trying to find a sympathetic gyno who I can work with. Furthemore I have lost all my gyno records I downloaded them but Cannot find them. Ugh..
O M G I have been trying to get the answer to this question: Can I start HRT now, age 62, when I may or may NOT be 10 years out since I had a hysterectomy 11 years ago? I have an appointment with my PCP next week and if she refuses, I am going to find a OBGYN who will prescribe them to me. I have a history of osteoporosis in my family and T2D, plus I deal with a lot of inflammation, insulin resistance, and I haven't been able to have vaginal sex without a LOT of pain in over a decade! I'm definitely doing this THANK YOU!!!!!
my mom is 83, and has been on low dose premarin for years...... she had "possible"" cervicle cancer" in the 1970s.. They took out her uterus anyway. Last year at age 83, they took her off her low dose premarin she had been on for 50 years - and now she is depressed, tired, and doesn't really wan t to wake up each day. She was going to the gym, walking the dog and happy prior to them taking her off it....We have zero cancer in our family. Messed up.
Thank you. Where are you?? I am going too start back. I was on BIo identical pills that dissolve in my mouth. Compound type. What kind should I use?? I’m 69 years young. I live in Texas!! DFW 😊
Hello I love your program!!! Thank you so ooo much I am 62 almost 63 o want to start hormone therapy but I am over the 10 year mark. I'm about nervous Increase of heart and blood cots and strokes shoes no sound good!! Do you have many clients that are beyond this 10 year and if they are on it how are they doing now ...how long are they on it?? Bless u and tks for answering Sue
I learn so much from your videos. Do you have a video about having no libido? I’m 66 and went through menopause from 46-52 yo. I did read a couple of articles that addressed my feelings of going through menopause again-hot flashes, sleep disruptions, moodiness, tears…magnesium can mimic menopause symptoms. My doctor mentioned a few other sources for me. We did agree that since I’m osteopenia at present, that I switch my calcium, magnesium, zinc tablet to a calcium vitamin D.
Great video! About the 14:30 mark you stated testosterone decreases a woman’s risk of breast cancer, and I am hoping you can provide links to the studies. Hopefully there’s more than one that substantiate this. It is fascinating and I want to learn more. Thank you in advance.
When I first came to the UK you were not allowed to be on HRT for more than 5 years, so I stopped at about 56. I am now 75 and am really sorry that it was stopped. Things are different now but it has been too many years since I came off.
I think it can feel cheeky to challenge a health professional but if done with humility then I think it’s okay to say that you’re understanding is that this study is out of date / old hormones used etc as it would be important for this professional to be aware and check the facts out for themselves
Thank you so much for this very valuable Bio-identical HRT information. I'm going to start this w/ a functional Dr./ program & although I trust them - it is a little intimidating for me as Ive had negative results ,& harsh side effects from the oral regular hormones. Which the conventional Dr.'s preescribed fir my osteoporosis (diagnosed at 31 yrs.). I'm going to try to get stronger finally now - 26 yrs. later at 57 yrs. young (hopefully it's not too late to gain some positive results?! Of course a healthy whole food diet w/ some weight bearing exercises should help either way. 🙏🙏💖😊
If it’s safe for four women over 60 to start taking hormone replacement therapy. Is it still applicable for those that are 79 to 80.? I have no history of heart disease, no cancers I don’t know her problems in my family history or do I. However, I do have four different autoimmune diseases, starting with celiac for many years , rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, PMR. Due to years of prison treatments I have now developed serious osteoporosis. My question, would HRT benefit me in any way as an aide in stopping some of the progression ? I also have stage 3 CKD brought on by years of Ibuprofen use. All of my vitals are normal and I hair complete blood panels drawn every three to four months.. Vaginal dryness is basically the reason for my interest .😮
Not sure the results were skewed. I think the synthetic and mare's urine were not ideal for hrt.. not too mention cruelty to the pregnant mare's being used to source it from.
The comments mostly seem to be in their 60s. I am 78 years old healthy and keen to go on hrt as you subscribe. Is that possible to start at this stage in life. Would really appreciate feedback. Many thanks.
Dr. Hardwick-Smith - You mentioned on another video that progesterone by mouth was great for sleep, but I no longer have a uterus. What about me? Is that still a good idea? Thank you for such GREAT information!
Here is Las Vegas finding a competent provider in this area is rare, or better, non-existent. I may have to travel somewhere to find one as my clock is ticking…
My aunt started taking estrogen orally at 30 years old after a hysterectomy. She was a smoker and heavy drinker up until when she died at 70 cardiac complications due to breast cancer radiation treatment. She died with bones of a 30-year-old according to her last Dexa scan.
Yes! There is a doctor on RUclips. His name is Shaun has a book called the hormone Bible, he explains do not take the pellets, but take bio identical, hormones, estradiol, and progesterone, in either the cream form or patches very good videos on this
I was taking oral HRT Angeliq for years up until my low grade, stage 1 breast cancer. I also use Aldactone for my blood pressure and water retention. I was in a really good place and was able to lose weight with intermittent fasting ( had lost a lot but ate a bit too much during covid lockdowns). Since the breast cancer no one will prescribe HRT. I would happily use a patch, but no one will give it. I have a very strong family history of Alzheimer’s and some heart disease. I stopped taking the Letrozole I was prescribed. Not worth the side effects. I’m looking for someone to give me estrogen, I will sign a waiver! I’m 59 and had a cardiac work up prior to my mastectomy and everything was clear. Please help!
Thank you so much for educating me on this subject. I’ll soon be 64 & I was thinking, what for now, so glad I found you on RUclips. You’ve answered so many of my concerns/fears of starting to use a patch. My doctor did prescribe them to me, but I wasn’t totally sure if I should. Now that I’ve listened to a few of your videos. I’m hoping this will be a good health choice. Thank you. Much appreciated. 🫶🏼
Dear dr please give me some hope 😢 I am ten years past my ‘window of opportunities’ for HRt and I really want to start but that research that says it will INCREASE my risk for dementia scared me. I want to know I can still save just brain 😢
Hi Susan thank you for all the information I went on pallets after doing a lot of research and I am very happy with my choice my depression my and anxiety Health has improved over all im doing testosterone and estrogen 😊
There was a huge scare about hormones when I was in my early 60's. I took bio-identical for a while but they were so expensive. Now I am 79 and have been using over the counter of both. I am very healthy so far - thin, strong, very active, so far high cognizant. Eating a very healthy organic diet.
I am 66 and having an incredibly tough time getting anyone to prescribe; endocrinologist, obgyn, etc. I have severe anxiety that has gone into depression due to the severe anxiety... I finally went to a new ob/gyn, a woman and she reluctantly prescribed hrt. Now my insurance won't pay for it, so if I want it, it will cost me $300 a month. Money is tight, as I am divorced. I still think I would like to try it. I am really desperate.
There are many docs that will do telehealth appointments that are specialists in HRT and menopause. You don't have to put up with ANY doctor that is 'reluctant'. WE are the owners of our bodies and WE make the decisions!!! Do an internet search you will find what you need.
I went through menopause at age 56. I am now 66. I started taking bio-identical hormones 11 years ago. I’d like to continue taking them but my husband will be retiring in about 6 months. My insurance will not cover the hormones or the office visits. It does cover the bloodwork. Plus my hormone doctor has me take a lot of vitamins and supplements. I’m spending a lot of money! After retirement we will be on a budget, therefore, I won’t be able to afford all this. Can you suggest what my options are? If I have to cut down on the vitamins, what do you advise me to keep taking? Is there something I can buy on line that is cheaper?
Wow, this is truly eye-opening. I am 68 years old and did take oral hormone replacement for a time in my 50s and then stopped. I do have osteoporosis and vaginal atrophy. Would you recommend for me to start hormone replacement now?
Great. Idea! So glad Drs are standing up for Menopausal women! Just a quick question about delivery methods, I see most take progesterone orally, I don’t take any hormones orally but just wonder why progesterone often is?
I went through early menopause at age 43, so did one of my daughters. I have no history of heart disease or cancer on either side of my family. We do have a genetic history of migraines though. I took Premarin for about 25 into my late 60s but stopped because I had an increase of migraines. I was fine for a few years when I turned 72 I suddenly was all aches, pains, very dry skin, thinning hair, and sleep disturbances. Only one or two migraines per year though. I'm interested in the topical estrogen therapy. I'm wondering if it would trigger migraines as the Premarin eventually did. I'm really tired of all the aches, pains, loss of bone density (my DEXA scans were fine until a couple of years ago), and general fatigue and misery. I also would like to find a doctor in my area who is sensitive to this issue. I did have a gyn who had prescribed my meds who had twins in their 80s were still taking estrogen and were and in very good health. She has since retired though.
Hi Doc! After listening to you and so many other smart, well-informed women, I'd like to meet with my reluctant GYN to get on appropriate HRT. I'm 62, at least 10 years post menopause (no HRT as all docs scared), with a family history of heart issues (however I don't currently have any symptoms or diagnoses). I am now pre-diabetic, A1C just barely over 6. Can you point me to the best studies to bring to my appointment when my doc believes HRT is contra-indicated and will "elevate risk of stroke and/or heart disease."
Great information but one comment was concerning. You said if you were diagnosed with estrogenic breast cancer you would stop HRT during treatment then resume when you were finished. How does this make sense?
Please tell us what you are doing for bone health! I am using Estradiol patch and oral progesterone! Definitely a learning curve. Had some side effects, bleeding and sore breasts. Followed up with my gynecologist. He advised me to continue and I have. I am curious about testosterone. Going back to see my dr this month. I have had my mammogram, colonoscopy and Pap smear this year. All is good. Thanh you for such useful information ❤
Hi Dr. Hardwick, I love your channel. However I am 66 and I am currently on the pellet. I am currently having issues with fibroids. I have had pelvic pain associated with them. Will I have to get off of the pellet or should I maybe try a very low dosage patch. Thanks Randi
You’re right!, I was on HRT after surgical menopause! But at age 60 my doc retired and the two female doc I seen would not approve it again! Only vag estradiol. They quoted me the study you read! I since had a broken leg dry eyes muscle pains and vag symptoms and uti and dry eyes etc lots of problems from not asking Continue IOUs HRT. They also mention this breast cancer stuff and I say with a full hysterectomy all hormones were cut off!
Congratulations on your bone density gains, Dr Susan! I wonder if you could clarify something. I’ve heard conflicting information about whether estrogen replacement can actually help with increasing bone mineral density versus just preventing further bone loss. Is this a matter of dosage of the estradiol? My personal experience has been interesting. I have beginning osteoporosis and had been on the “standard” dose (0.05mg) estradiol patch for about three years. This brought my estradiol blood levels only to 25 and 30 pg/ml. (2 separate measurements). I also had mild to moderate hypercalciuria (3 separate 24-hr urine calcium tests over a 9 month period). My endocrinologist suggested thiazide diuretics for the hypercalciuria, which I was not comfortable with after doing some research. Instead, I asked my gynecologist for the next higher patch dose. (She’s great and had no objections). To my delight the following 24-hr urine calcium test showed no more hypercalciuria, and my estradiol level has increased to approximately 49 pg/ml. Might I be correct in assuming that the higher estradiol dose is better to maintain or perhaps even help increase my bone density going forward? My endocrinologist has not confirmed this and appeared to avoid going into explanations of this improvement of the hypercalciuria. I was wondering if you have more knowledge about this topic. Can an insufficient estradiol level be the cause of excess urine calcium levels? I would love to know! 😊 Thank you for your very helpful videos, Dr Susan! 🌸
I don’t think there’s any conflicting information in the scientific world about estrogen improving bone density, but it certainly needs to be the appropriate dose- so blood levels of 40 to 80 are adequate
A common caveat for HRT is insulin resistance or being overweight, or heart risk in family history. What if those apply? Chicken or eg with these issues causing or being caused by hormone deficit. Help!
I was told no when I asked to take HRT because I get migraine with aura. Is this true? I am 56 and would really like to start taking it. What is your advice?
I'm 82 and been taking bio-identical hormones since aged 54. I'm totally healthy. I also eat only organic. Rarely sugar, wheat or dairy and exercise most days for 60 years.
I didn’t take hormones but I’m now my body is wrinkling terribly. I’m 76.

I am so glad I saw this video as I have been taking Bio-Identical hormones for donkey years now and could never stop. The advantages are even more for me than you mention:
If I take less my hair starts falling out, I cannot sleep, I get digestive issues, I become depressed or very emotional, anxious and get stress incontinence! It helps me physically emotionally and mentally in every way! Thank God for estrogen, I can recommend for every woman after 50. I am 76 now and will never stop taking them!

May I ask for the name of the bio identical hormones you’re taking? Thanks in advance

@denisewittman975 This is way too strong and not balanced for most women. I believe the estradiol patch and oral progesterone is a better option for most.. and easily controlled. Biote is an injected pellet that can't easily be removed if a woman has issues with it.
I am 70 and my doctor cautioned me about estradiol. He said high incidence of blood clots.
So glad I came across this video. I got most of my questions answered. Can you talk about the combination of estrogen and progesterone for women after 65 who have never been on HRT. Benefits, types, length, creams etc. Thank you!!

Hello. My mother is also 70 years old. Have you started hormone therapy?
I'm 62 and went through menopause at age 50. My Gyn prescribed HRT (answered my questions, not her fault), but I was still on the fence because of some of the studies. Your information has put many of my questions to rest. Thank you!
I’m 62 and my Dr just prescribed HRT, and i’d like to know it’s going for you? I’m hesitant.
I'm 10 years past menopause and started HRT because the benefits outweighed the risks. I was suffering unnecessarily.

Thank you for your kind words!

At 69 I started back on HRT last week. Never should have stopped. HRT
actually reduces cancer risks & strengthens heart & bones. Women have
been misled about hormones ! I'm through menopause, but I never got
my energy back. My heart started "fluttering" again too. The whole time I
was on HRT, I stopped worrying about my heart.
Thanks
I’m glad my daughter educated me on the information available out there! Thank you 🙏🏼
I recently had a lump ectomy for a very small cancer, they took me off my HRT which I’ve been on for 12 years, I’m 65 years old.

I'm 60. so I found a naturopathic doc, and she was up on this current info and prescribed me .05 estradiol patch 2x/wk, plus natural micronized progesterone, 100 mg each night (but I cut the progesterone troche in half many nights because progesterone causes me to be lethargic and irritable, so I self adjust and was told to be sure I take it at least 12 nights per month, to counteract endometrial lining buildup from the estradiol.)
My insurance in Oregon covers the naturopathic doc and the medications, including the compounded progesterone troche (oral melts in mouth.)
Question for the doctor here: would a transdermal micronized progesterone cream ever be preferable over oral? Thanks for this v reassuring content!
Where in Oregon? What is the ND name?

Appreciate you as a source of current medical information. God knows I can't look to allopathic medicine for this.
I cried after watching this video. Thank you.
I hope it goes well!
I take bio-identical topical creams purchased online, no prescription. Hot flashes are greatly reduced, not eliminated but WAY better than w/o. I'm 79 & thought I was an oddity for STILL going through this.
May I ask you how and where did you get them online with RX and how are you monitoring this , I’m 62 and I’m looking for help cause both my primary and gynecologist both just blow me off 😢
Where do you order from? I can't afford to buy from US pharmacies,I'm looking for a pharmacy from India?
Messed up.
UCSF sucks
I'm about nervous
Increase of heart and blood cots and strokes shoes no sound good!!
Do you have many clients that are beyond this 10 year and if they are on it how are they doing now ...how long are they on it?? Bless u and tks for answering Sue
I’m turning 62 soon and am interested in starting hrt. I went through menopause 11 years ago. Did you get a dr who would prescribe it for you?
Check out MIDI Health they pay 100% if your ppo insurance is in network
Thank you for making this I stopped listening to the majority of doctors when they thought following the dash diet was healthy❤❤❤❤
So you can get back on HRT since you've had years off? That's my question.
I know of a 80 Yr old started a few months ago
My blessings to you Doc! I hope you live longer than 50 years!
The WHI ruined life for many women. The results were skewed.
Yes, my former boss is now bedridden because of it.
@@morganjen1962 Wow! That sucks 😞
Not sure the results were skewed. I think the synthetic and mare's urine were not ideal for hrt.. not too mention cruelty to the pregnant mare's being used to source it from.
Yes, skewed because they used a sick and elderly group.
Are there currently large studies underway on effects of estradiol ( modern HRT) so that we will have updated evidence?
Yes! There is a doctor on RUclips. His name is Shaun has a book called the hormone Bible, he explains do not take the pellets, but take bio identical, hormones, estradiol, and progesterone, in either the cream form or patches very good videos on this
You have given me hope! Thank you so much!
That is exactly what this is, empowering information, many thanks.
Yep, my doctor brought up the WHI I moved on
I was taking oral HRT Angeliq for years up until my low grade, stage 1 breast cancer.
I was wondering about the same thing.
I am also ten years past and started HRT. The benefits outweigh the risks in my opinion.
Hi Susan thank you for all the information I went on pallets after doing a lot of research and I am very happy with my choice my depression my and anxiety
Health has improved over all im doing testosterone and estrogen
😊
While you're looking into hormones..Try the Carnivore lifestyle diet...for help with mood and weight

Check out MIDI health if you have a ppo insurance that they cover all medications test and more.
@@reneescott4500I’m on Medicare now and MIDI doesn’t take Medicare insurance.
Great video! That was supposed to say
Very helpful thank you.
Hi Diane. Your story is almost identical to mine. What has been happening currently? Any new information?
Great information but one comment was concerning. You said if you were diagnosed with estrogenic breast cancer you would stop HRT during treatment then resume when you were finished. How does this make sense?
I was wondering about that too.
Thank you! You answered every single question I had!
Fantastic 🎉 love your honesty and passion ❤
Great news about your bone density. I sent this talk to my mom.
I since had a broken leg dry eyes muscle pains and vag symptoms and uti and dry eyes etc lots of problems from not asking Continue
IOUs HRT.
Thank you for your very helpful videos, Dr Susan! 🌸
I don’t think there’s any conflicting information in the scientific world about estrogen improving bone density, but it certainly needs to be the appropriate dose- so blood levels of 40 to 80 are adequate
@@drsusan Thank you very much for your reply, Dr Susan!
A common caveat for HRT is insulin resistance or being overweight, or heart risk in family history. What if those apply? Chicken or eg with these issues causing or being caused by hormone deficit. Help!
Fantastic video - thank you.
I was told no when I asked to take HRT because I get migraine with aura. Is this true? I am 56 and would really like to start taking it. What is your advice?
Did the doctor start her hormone therapy after menopause? Her bone density test results are amazing!
