That man gave me great memories that’ll last a lifetime! From the unforgettable’s to the 1996 super team I remain a Pitino guy more than a Cal guy. Thanks Rick and Matt for a great interview!!!!😢
The best word to describe this entire thing, is surreal. I couldn't be happier that Coach P is back in the fold and no longer a pariah around these parts. You're welcome home any time Coach. We love you.
This man was the B-ball God of this state in the 90's. When teams came to Rupp they knew they were leaving with L in the win/loss column. His teams were efficient on both ends of the court. I tell my adult UK fan kids about the Rick Pitino era and they kinda "get it" but to be there to witness games like the UK vs LSU game Feb 15, 1994 ..... those were times I will always remember coach Pitino for. Thank you coach P for the Big Blue memories. I look forward to our new coach P(ope) to continue the tradition and passion.
Man we would've won maybe 6 more if he stayed. He just got it on top, from the time he got there. And how they won. It was deferential style, funnest games to watch. Pressure d, dunks and lobs, great passion, and passing. Those kids had basketball i.q. too. Out smarted, faster taller more athletic.
Rick's welcome anytime as far as I'm concerned. He did a lot for Kentucky, and when he was let go at Boston, he knew he made a mistake and has said so. He will always be UK. Go Pope.
He is just a Great Basketball Coach. Sure he is a human being and we all are not prefect. However Rick Pitino is a Hall of Fame Coach for Kentucky. It was the best of times when he was leading our basketball team. If you remember and lived in those days. You know what I mean. I am glad he is back at Kentucky. God bless him and All of us.
@@g00senek2 we'll see about that... Lmao 🤣😂🤣... I think we'll give you guys a better game this year.... Y'all got some good pieces can't wait for the start of season!!!
It sure was a breath of fresh air to listen to a UK B-Ball interview, and not have to listen to the Coach talk nonsense, and Dance around every question. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Coach P after all that had happened…But I’m all for water under the bridge, instead of burning bridges. Clearly, he loves UK and his time spent here, the friendships he made, and the memories that come with it. I’m all for Pope being the one to bring him back. I’m not saying this because the wound is fresh…because that wound healed long before Cal ever left…But why wasn’t everyone as confused as I was, when we hired Cal to begin with? Sure, I sucked it up and jumped on that bandwagon, after suffering through the Billy G years…but I wanted Donavan. I was sick to hear we hired Cal, because as a Coach Pitino supporter, I was under the impression he was public enemy #1 for UK basketball….Nobody else? Do you not remember him at UMASS??? How no one liked him…everyone thought he was a low down, dirty, do anything to win, cheat? And a young Pitino Stuck it to him for the most part. I couldn’t believe when he treated the great John Cheaney from Temple, the way he did. And then we hired the guy. And he came in at a time, the “one and done era”, where he could exploit the UK brand, along with his success(sure), and get these kids to commit, and it isn’t matter what kind of year they had as a team. I would argue he would almost have to try to not win the title with 2014-15 team, and even a couple others. But I don’t have to, because he proved that for me! I was never crazy about the Cal hire, and couldn’t be happier he is gone. Should have happened in 2020, or 2021. He clearly didn’t have UK’s best interest at heart, albeit if he did have more NBA recruits than anybody. That doesn’t interest me. Lots of those kids didn’t make it, didn’t manage what money they did make, and prolly wish they had someone teach them to be a man at some point. Just my POV….GO CATS!
If you are a Kentuckian that's lived outside the state any length of time, it becomes somewhat easy to root for both. I am a diehard cat fan, but I still root for Louisville. It's ok....not everyone has hate in their heart for little bro.
Other than Gillespie... I think we need to next year. Have as many former players come back and all the coaches, including Cal. Let's be honest Cal did alot of good for kentucky basketball. We have a chance this year to give Cal a standing O in 2 ways from fans before the game and hopefully a 0 after the game lol. I feel like Matt Jones said it best when Rick could have went to any other school and we wouldn't have given him any crap for it. Even though let's be honest even though we had Tubby...we wanted Rick back. He'll I'd be willing to bet if Rick had called kentucky after leaving the NBA...We'd have given him the job back, and Tubby would have understood...
@@donaldbartsch8223 yeah he would have, tubby was his assistant when he came to uk and he recommended him for the job. I can’t say if they were good friends, but they were more than just acquaintances. Common courtesy dictates if you recommend one of your former employees for a job you vacate, you don’t just go and take it back from them a couple years later. Try again.
I think it is funny how people always ask him how it was to like kentucky but coach at uofl , he is a new yorker, he wasnt raised where it was either uk OR ul but never both.
great to see Pitino back, but doesnt he coach St. Johns. shouldnt he be spending time with his team getting them ready. also has a bit of a feel that he is anglng to come back if Pope does not do well
What disease or cancer does he have? He has a team to coach, young men to mentor. It’s not the off season. He’s not retired. Every second, every dribble, pass, shot, film review should be to make his team better. This is like a big F U to his school, program, and players.
What a class act. Wish him nothing but continued success. Keep coming to LEX, Rick! We love you!

Many players including Luke Hancock and Peyton diva have invited him back to loyisville several times. There is video links stating this
Ryan was so nervous at the end.

I think Rick will be rehired at UK
Would have love to see Pitino kick Cal's butt in basketball more if he would have stayed at UK.
