I’m so appreciative of Mark Pope for coming back to Kentucky as head coach and gathering such a tremendous roster of talent while behind an 8 ball of time.
I really hope Pope’s career is a huge success because he seems like a genuinely good person. I’m excited to see his style of play on the court. I can’t wait to get to know the staff better this season as well. It’s understandable they’ve been stuck working behind the curtain this off season, we typically don’t get to know a staff until the actual season but Pope has assembled a great staff in such a short time and it’s already paying dividends in recruiting.
Coach, make sure y'all get enough sleep. We can see and feel the energy and effort everyone has put in so far and continuing to do so! Winning national championships is not easy - but that doesn't take away our hunger to win national championship every year! I want our every recruiting class and the team to believe and share that KENTUCKY will always have a shot at winning National Championships and win many games every season. #WeAreUK #BBN
You guys need some portable mics. Theyre cheap and easy to run. Quality of these interviews will be 10 times better, instead of a speaker phone-type sound. Great interview and questions otherwise!
@@nationalchampions That is true. You know why. UK>UL. Every years UK had superior talent. Yet Pitino for the most part made the games interesting. Yet UK had far better talent on the court.
@@nationalchampions The one year I can think Rick and John coached against each other while Rick was at Kentucky and John was at UMASS, they traded wins. John squeaked out a win in November 1995. Rick coached UK to a slightly more decisive victory in the Final Four in March.
So glad that you guys did this and so glad FOR YOU GUYS that you did this! Next time we can make a collective and get you guys some wireless microphones and a couple of lights to mount on those cameras :) I know a guy ;)
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed a lot during the Cal years, but it also felt like he kind of hijacked our program for his own purposes. Honorable purposes of getting elite into the NBA fast. That was a good thing, but eventually I missed the stuff other programs still had, but we didn't get anymore. The stuff that makes college basketball what it is. In short, I'm excited that we finally have our program back. It's been a long time.
Coach pope looking like Dirk Nowitzki with the buzz cut he has a great hairline he could def have a great head of hair if he let it grow but he’s too busy working to get haircuts he just buzzes it off lol
Guys great podcast but do one thing in future podcast. Put your phones away! You take away from any resemblance professionalism constantly looking at your phones like two teenagers texting
Barnhart hired Pope cause it was the only hire that saved his job, plus they thought that they could hire anyone they wanted. No one wanted to come and Coach Kentucky and reason why, you just gave Coach Cal a life time contract and 2 years later you run him off, so why would anyone want to come here you have a few bad years and fans are talking crap about you and saying things about your family, I don't blame Cal for leaving. So if we don't make the NCAA tournament for the next 3 years does Barnhart leave before Pope who gets fired first?
I actually won money on that ol Miss game 🤙.Don't worry UK football is about to go on a losing streak. UK basketball isn't going to be good this year he'll probably have a good team in a few years if he lasts. Good thing we live in America not a communist country cuz I can say whatever I want to. 😂😂😂
Man I hope this works out because he is such a nice guy and everyone loves him right now. But if we have a bad season this fan base will turn on him quick.
Will they? I feel like we gave Calipari a really long rope as it was. I think the fact that Pope is an alumni, won a ship here and how humble and more relatable as a person he is will help out in that regard.
@@tylerbakermusic I hope so because I really like him. I don’t want to see the fan base turn on one of their own. Cal had proven himself at Umass and Memphis and hit the ground running his first season here. No one really has any idea how this seasons going to go lol
@@tylerbakermusicYour description of Mark Pope at UK matches Kenny Payne at UofL. I think UofL's Athletic Director gave Kenny a pretty long rope, even though it was only 2 years, but with 4 win 🤦 and 8 win 🤦 seasons, 2 years was a pretty long rope. Where Mark Pope differs is Mark has proven himself as a head coach, at a challenging university to recruit at, and with a little Big 12 experience; Kenny hadn't been a head coach before. Despite a late start, Pope hired some of the best assistant coaches around. Despite a late start, the coaches recruited some of the best players still available in the transfer portal.
Mitch Barnhart is a handshake kind of guy, so I think he'd stick his neck out for Mark Pope if it came to that. (That said, Mitch only kept Billy Gillespie for 2 years, but there were numerous special circumstances.) Based on Mark's assistant coaching hires, their ability to recruit, and the anticipated style of play, I think the realistic worst case is that Mark Pope stays for 6 years of 20+ wins a season, maybe with a sweet 16 or elite 8. I think the best case is Mark Pope stays for 20+ years.
If Mark Pope eventually gets fired, Matt Jones will probably lead the cry for it again. I'm saying this because the last few years, every time UK's basketball team stumbled, it seemed Matt Jones would pop his head out of his hole and try to get John Calipari fired. I enjoy several of KSR's commentators, but Matt Jones made me unsubscribe. I wish Matt would switch to being a Tennessee fan, because it's guys like him that destroyed Tennessee football for over a decade. 💀
I know I haven’t been this excited for KY basketball in forever.
💯
You and me both...at 62 I am more excited at this season than I have been in a LONG time!
No more players first. Back to that winning mentality
@@Jsimms1324 ...and actual coaching before, during and after the game.
I love listening to his actual plan for playing offense and defense. Something we haven't had explained to us in a long time. Go CATS!!!

Mitch Barnhart made the perfect hire.

2nd this. It’s been the same on the “live” podcasts. Also picks up the camera moving.
Let’s go coach!!! BBN RUNS DEEP!
The last time I was THIS EXCITED and feeling like I KNOW Kentucky will have a very solid season, Rick Pitino was Kentucky coach.
John Calipari owned Rick Pitino while Calipari was at UK, and Pitino was at UL.
