      @user-xo7go4rr7g as a vikings (and therefore Tomlin) fan, it is really interesting that it is a WR culture problem and not a team culture problem. That being said it may be an issue that he was a defensive backs coach who puts more detail in the WR DB match up and takes sides in a way that exaggerates wr self worth when they win the drill.
      Still would keep him as a coach forever.

I am so tired for the last 2 years of hearing these comparisons every time George Pickens throws a hissy fit. Do you have any idea the shit Antonio Brown used to really do? And no one knew about it because they kept it so under wraps in that building because he was so effing good. Now it all came flooding to the surface after the fact and then they finally had to let him go. But he was like that his whole career for the most part. I think WR is a position the Steelers have been willing to take rehabilitation projects at, and frankly they're one of the best teams in the league at over he last decade. The issue I think is that Rothlisberger, particularly late career, was a huge part of that, with tons of volume to go around and a lot of coaching on the field. They don't have that luxury right now because of the QB situation, and as others have pointed out, it can be tough to keep modern WRs happy in a low volume offense, but that's frankly the only way the Steeler's can win right now.

    • @mazeofthemind560
      @mazeofthemind560 Месяц назад +1

      Even cheering for a division rival, I think the world of Tomlin, he's the best in the business at keeping big personalities from blowing up the team, but he's clearly struggling to keep Pickens under control, and you can see this getting worse if they continue to lean into the run-first identity and play close to .500. If he's already at the point he's having to make an example of arguably his best skill player this early in the season, this could be the season Pickens burns bridges he can't repair.
      As for Pickens, he came out of college with a reputation as a head case, and has done nothing whatsoever to convince the league otherwise, frankly there's probably nothing he can do at this point to remove the "buyer beware" label. Pickens looks like the kind of player who can only be depended on in a high volume role on a winning team and those teams don't get into bidding wars. You make your money when struggling teams are willing to bid or trade for you to jump start a struggling offense.

      We act like these situations are irresolvable. But everyone loves a public act of humility, taking responsibility for your actions, and turning it around. We eat that story up.
      Part of why we like that story is that it’s hard. But man has tens of millions on the line-not just in this contract, but in potential future ones. He has the autonomy to make a choice and act on it.

He has the physical gifts and talent to be a great wideout, but his penchant to "phone it in" or delivering cheap shots is holding him back from unlocking his full potential. Plus, I do mean it when I say the Steelers have a lax culture. Immediately? He took so long it looked like he didn't want Lewis to get out of his face. He panicked, because he couldn't think of anything to say. He cared more about being shut up then being shutdown. Yea Lewis was being a douchebag but Pickens was acting like he needed one.

    Steeler fan here, can't wait till Pickens is gone as well as Tomlin. Tomlin tries way too hard to be friends with the players , he can't control problem players like Pickens. It's been a consistent issue over his time as coach

    his upside is certainly not so much he can't be let go. he isn't even a top 5 receiver in that division.

    I was rooting for the Cowboys, and I'm glad they won, but I actually applauded Pickens for not tolerating the disrespect. 2 was flying a little too close to the sun there and got the reality check he deserved in that moment. Stay out a mfers space and don't ever disrespect another man in his house, period.

This is what Mike Tomlin teaches them WR in Pittsburgh..let them dance all over the team and then try to act like oh they don’t listen when he’s the one letting them do it!! It’s not just once, they have a proven track record..stop making it like it’s a Pickens problem
