My electronic handbreak button broke down. The mechanic asked for 400$ for this job! He explained: 200$ for the component, and another 200$ for replacing it. So i did a little research, found the original part on eBay for 100$ including shipment, and after a bit trial and error I managed to replace it myself. It took me about 40 minutes (meaning, for the mechanic it would have taken 5 minutes...).
So I uploaded this video so you could watch how I replace a broken electronic handbreak button with a new one on my Volkswagen Tiguan 2018. Useful DIY video for same problem in other volkswagen models.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. I followed your instructions and all worked out well. BTW - The genuine VW Switch (Which I bought from an online VW parts dealer only cost $16.95 US.

Thanks, I used a toothpick to lift one latch and pry the other side latch with a flat screwdriver, then push up. I think the hardest part is lifting the panel. I used a 3/8 ratchet extension covered with rag to pry. Then came the warning light... It just wanted me to step on the brakes and activate the switch it says on the dash, then the warning light went away. Thanks for sharing!

Is there a difference in the switch from the left-hand drive to the right-hand drive for this switch?

I can’t believe VW wouldn’t fox this broken e-brake switch under warranty and the dealer quoted almost $200 for the repair. Bought the switch for $25 and did it in 15 min though i did break off a piece of plastic from something under the shift boot. I used a T-15 bit for the two screw fasteners.

It takes 20-30 minutes for the mechanic as well. Only the dealer mechanics do it in 10 minutes, as they already know how to do it and have acces to manuals
