If anyone wants to know more about La Drang, The Operations Room covered it very nicely. It is worth noting that this was one of two engagements, the other that happened later was a lot more of a mess-up. I love the attention to detail, such as the white phosphorus round landing right before the helicopters move in!

The 1st (Air) Cavalry Division deployed in Vietnam was the commitment to an experiment in mobile warfare which was part of a long transition from being a mounted cavalry division formed in 1921 or 1922 then an infantry division during WW2 to an airmobile formation during the Vietnam War to finally, in 1986 onwards to a cavalry division which is a full armored division with 3 armored brigades and a full aviation brigade today as part of the III Corps.
