I dont know why the ''sketchy'' look is even considered bad. The rough street aesthetic dorohedoro has reminds me of 90s-2000s sort of newgrounds street culture and is incredibly iconic
I think because manga generally has very clean lines. Dorhedoro’s art style reminds me more of an underground outlaw comic than a manga. I think it’s just a bit jarring for people that are used to the typical manga art style. Everything about this manga is punk rock
if you really like that art style look up heavy metal magazine or French Bandes Dessinees comics. They both go really heavy on that gritty hyper realistic art style.

Mushroom Vegeta is the best. The “laugh at my joke” bit was so well done, the tone and placement was perfect, and thus I did, in fact, laugh at your jokes.
"The artwork is ugly" says the naysayers No, it's purposeful. Nikaido is the perfect example. Her clothes are scratchy and sketchy in the art, but her actual physical form, her face/hair/body/etc, is made up of smooth, clean lines. It's a style that is made to convey through the visual language everything you need to know about a character and their surroundings. Art is more than lines on a page, especially when used a brilliantly as in Q's work.
it's almost a sort of "practiced naivety" think of Pendleton Ward's artstyle (Adventure Time, Bravest Warriors, etc). It's (most likely) intentionally 'bad' or 'naive.' I really love outsider art, and it seems to be inspired by it.
I find the art-work really interesting, some parts i've seen in the anime where there are perfect shots that look like a old 90's dark sketchy art style

I remember watching a bit of the anime, (Not being too huge on CG though), and hopping right to the manga and basically read everything right to the end, was quite the wild and unforgettable ride. The world, all the characters were memorable, my favorite being En, he's not simply a Mafia-boss like dude, but he's a certified badass and shows it nearing the end (without spoilers) - by how he was protecting everyone around him at the cost of himself when everything was going to shit. It's one of those mangas that you read, enjoy, then wish you could remove that memory of having read it so you could re-enjoy the experience of re-reading it. I don't feel that way towards most manga or anime, but Dorohedoro was one of them for sure. I'd recommend the Manga more than the anime, the anime does well to respect the source material, but I also just can't get over them making Nikaido's face somewhat ugly due to the CGI but just the CGI in general. Also, Steamed Gyoza is superior to Deep-fried Gyoza.

Hells yeah (literally 😈) ...I'm just found this series a few weeks ago and am already to chapter 55 - I'm going through a pretty tough time in life right now and ironically this dark looking story has been just what I needed to lift myself up. As bad as my life seems right now it is nothing compared to what these people are going through, and yet despite that (or *because* of that) the characters are full of life and happiness! It sounds messed up but this is inspiring
My wife says "I'm not sorry that I did not watch that [anime] with you" which I guess is fair. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to more, even with the spoilers.
Kikurage is a type of mushroom. It looks like an ear. In English it's sometimes called a Judas's Ear, because it grows on the type of tree that Judas Iscariot hanged himself on. So in folklore it's like Judas Iscariot's body parts are eternally growing out of these trees as a curse for betraying Jesus. Which is pretty sick. Also, the name "Kikurage" is supposed to sound silly and obscure. So Judas's Ear is like a miracle translation. I love it.
i love how the show just jumped right into this complicated storyline without any explanation and it just kept exploring a lot of layers. it was so random and chaotic yet determined. it was definitely a WILD ride.
Your point at the start about the age of Dorohedoro was a striking one. I remember seeing manga volumes in Forbidden Planet in Southampton UK as early as 2008, so having an anime over a decade later is very unusual.
I share the exact sentiment, I'll be 30 soon and discovered it while going through a rough patch here in New Babylon City (shii still patchy) 2009-2010 on a manga site that had a random feature, needless to say I'm trash and don't pay for much; love forbidden planet I've bought "Too Much CoffeeMan☕" omnibus, " little book of legs, butts and Breasts" by taschen, A huge suicide girls book, several volumes of Constantine but I'm how would you say economically disabled *cough* poor *cough* so I barely buy things, regardless Upon discovering it i took a cannabis Brownie and proceeded to binge about 70 chapters,it took me 6-8 hours because I'd have to constantly close my eyes,i wouldn't sleep though only contemplate my life then proceed to click! I was shocked when a mutual friend of a friend recommended me a "anime" named Dorohedoro, I just chuckled and indulged him for about an hour, never told him either.
im glad it did get one, even though it was cgi, i wish it had an adaptation of parasyte the maximums level, it got an anime adaptation almost 30 years later
The best thing Dorohedoro does establish that everyone is a byproduct of their circumstance. You're just a regular human who was turned into s slug? well obviously you're gonna hate that, but the person who made you a slug also doesn't like that their magic is to turn people in to slugs. People putting other people into dire straits don't necessarily realize what they're doing.
I wouldn't say aikawas personality is exactly like caiman. Caiman is more of a mix between Kai and aikawa. He keeps the human side of aikawa but also has the bloodlust to kill sorcerers like Kai. If anything caiman is like the complete opposite of Ai since he enjoys living in the hole and is content with his life there besides the need to get his head back which he later wants to give up. Caiman is almost like the suppressed personality of Ai or the antithesis since Caiman lacks the intelligence and meticulous nature that Ai has.
The best part of Dorohedoro is that in-universe, nothing feels out of place and it all just makes sense. I've read the manga, but watching this video made me realise how insane this shit is, and why it's in my top 5 manga.
I like Seinen, I wish they would make more instead of just Shonen all the time although I like those to. I just bought the Dorohedoro manga too and the art is AMAZING.
Binged about 70 chapters on a brownie in 2010,took me like 7 hours cuz I'd close my eyes for minutes at a time, life's weird, sometimes I feel like I'm in that 🕳️ Here's to another place 💨💨

Just started watching anime again (literally hadn't watched any for about 6 years), this is what I started with and I must say I'm not disappointed. Rarely does an anime break the mold in the way this one does. More creators need to be this bold. Nice to see someone else proclaiming its praises.
So glad to see Q Hayashida getting some love. I recommend Dorohedoro to everyone I can , its usually about a 50% success rate, - but the 50% who love it , LOVE IT.
I love this story and really admire how it’s also pretty hopeful considering how bleak it is most of the time! They never really quit moving forward it’s nice
27:13 kai/aikawa is basically a hydra, and you can see his door has a 9 headed hydra hydra on it(same numbers of heads kai has) , the body is immune to magic and we see that by swapping heads it also regenerates so the heads kinda serve as extra lives. While the body is immune to magic the heads are the only part that can be affected by it, that's why ksi's head was affected by ebisu's reptile magic kai removes his head when he fights en because it is the only part vulnerable to en's magic so he can just walk away from him. kaiman is completely immune to magic because his body is naturally immune and his head is affected by ebisu's lizard magic
just finished the manga and fckin' loved it ya'll. world building and story is robust, not one time where comedy is cringe, and how they deliver the complexties of different relationships is superb w/o em ever being possessive? peeps just doin what they do
For Doro, it's weird as I don't normally 're-watch' a ton. But after having it randomly pass thru my mind, I've found myself doing it twice now. Run-time is basically just a long movie. It's just...something.
My dopamine levels are through the roof right now, I've been waiting for this video for a long time. Love the work my man. I had a heart attack when I saw the anime release, I've owned all the means almost since they've came out since about 16. This truly is a stand alone work of art on berserk level.
I hadn’t wanted to start a manga because of how good an anime was since Berserk and the story and characters here are even more compelling. I’ll watch this review after I catch up on the manga.
I have no clue how they will adapt the latter volumes for the anime. It gets wild. The violence, the casual nudity and just the overall sheer insanity.
This series beautifully encompasses the proverb: "And life goes on." Regardless of horrors; joys; ups and downs. "Existence" itself; the machinations that keep the motion of the cosmos at large ticking; will keep on going towards endless possibilities. We can only ever glimpse a small moment in time and many will spend it trying to gain a "meaning" from it...When the truth is; there isn't. Not in a bad way; mind you. Just in a simpler way; that makes anyone that has; is; and will be...just as important; regardless of what they do; or how long they did it for. A moment compared to infinity is always of equal and important value. That without every single moment; infinity would be just be nothingness.
Dang, nearly a full hour of content on this one, you guys are really putting in work for our benefit. Keep rockin' and never change, your format is perfect the way it is.

We're about to be heading into 2023 in a couple weeks. There hasn't been any info at all about even a consideration for season 2. This far along without even a whiff of anything, just literally nothing. It's more than likely they aren't going to approve another season.
@@SPFLDAngler Mappa is currently very busy with Attack on titan and Jujuutsu Kaisen. Perhaps after those big series they will have time for Dorohedoro. They have announced that they will be opening a CGI focused studio so it wouldn't be weird for them to pick up Dorohedoro. We can dream!

Dai Dark by Q is also a fantastic read. I think it's still only on less than 20 chapters but it's really fun to explore this vast space universe with the most ridiculous of characters.
What's beautiful is that the tone is consistent. If it goes into comic relief, it's dark humor. It goes into mystery and psychological horror at times, but never long enough to be any of those two specifically and we are back to Dorohedoro mode.

My wife says "I'm not sorry that I did not watch that [anime] with you" which I guess is fair. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to more, even with the spoilers.
My fiance loves it right now.
Mine said "this shits weird"
Mine had nothing to say. Single life is real.

It okay, you have me.
I told my wife im not sorry im divorcing you lmaoo
Almost 4 years and nothing. That sucks. This story is AMAZING. Highly underrated.

S2 just announced today!

This guy predicted it too hahaha
I share the exact sentiment, I'll be 30 soon and discovered it while going through a rough patch here in New Babylon City (shii still patchy) 2009-2010 on a manga site that had a random feature, needless to say I'm trash and don't pay for much; love forbidden planet I've bought "Too Much CoffeeMan☕" omnibus, " little book of legs, butts and Breasts" by taschen, A huge suicide girls book, several volumes of Constantine but I'm how would you say economically disabled *cough* poor *cough* so I barely buy things, regardless
Upon discovering it i took a cannabis Brownie and proceeded to binge about 70 chapters,it took me 6-8 hours because I'd have to constantly close my eyes,i wouldn't sleep though only contemplate my life then proceed to click! I was shocked when a mutual friend of a friend recommended me a "anime" named Dorohedoro, I just chuckled and indulged him for about an hour, never told him either.
Bruh I didn't expect anyone to namedrop my city, Im tripping out hard hah
Jojo exists bruh.
phantom blood was a 1987 manga, got an anime in 2007. so that's 20 years.
@@Kaimax61
Well at least part 3 got animated in 1993
im glad it did get one, even though it was cgi,
i wish it had an adaptation of parasyte the maximums level,
it got an anime adaptation almost 30 years later
The best thing Dorohedoro does establish that everyone is a byproduct of their circumstance. You're just a regular human who was turned into s slug? well obviously you're gonna hate that, but the person who made you a slug also doesn't like that their magic is to turn people in to slugs. People putting other people into dire straits don't necessarily realize what they're doing.
Read it a while back and it changed my balls. Original punk style needed when originally is short these days
The only “joke” at laughed at was the Johnson’s “shocking” joke
I lol when he talked about ebisus trauma and was then like “it’s hilarious”
It fucking got me too
Wait people laugh at those jokes well I'm shocked 😲 😳
@@moroseloki1912 shocking
The best part of Dorohedoro is that in-universe, nothing feels out of place and it all just makes sense. I've read the manga, but watching this video made me realise how insane this shit is, and why it's in my top 5 manga.
I like Seinen, I wish they would make more instead of just Shonen all the time although I like those to. I just bought the Dorohedoro manga too and the art is AMAZING.
ruclips.net/video/amU6NZ9pjN0/видео.html Check out this Video about Dorohedoro I made. 😤💯🔥
We also don’t get a lot of jōsei adaptations either.

Mecha fans: first time?
"And it isn't appropriate for anyone" oh that killed me, best endorsement and truest thing ever said about this show, love it
Read the manga really enjoyed it all the way through would recommend
Binged about 70 chapters on a brownie in 2010,took me like 7 hours cuz I'd close my eyes for minutes at a time, life's weird, sometimes I feel like I'm in that 🕳️

Dorohedoro is so refreshing I can‘t even begin do describe it i
I loved this series, and recommend it to anyone who’ll listen. It’s so incredibly unique & doesn’t bother to explain it’s eccentricities to it’s audience. Can’t wait for season 2.
Will there be a season 2?
Given it's a Netflix, I won't really expect a S2.
@@AnimeIsLayfu It's no big deal. The manga is enough.
I've started watching Dorohedoro with my daughter. She loves Ebisu, and laughs everytime she pulls off an Ebisu type event. Shocking!!!
Shocking!!!!
Shocking!!!!!
I really like how most of the time characters smile and laugh on chapter covers, despite what's happening inside the story
27:13 kai/aikawa is basically a hydra, and you can see his door has a 9 headed hydra hydra on it(same numbers of heads kai has) , the body is immune to magic and we see that by swapping heads it also regenerates so the heads kinda serve as extra lives. While the body is immune to magic the heads are the only part that can be affected by it, that's why ksi's head was affected by ebisu's reptile magic
kai removes his head when he fights en because it is the only part vulnerable to en's magic so he can just walk away from him. kaiman is completely immune to magic because his body is naturally immune and his head is affected by ebisu's lizard magic
just finished the manga and fckin' loved it ya'll. world building and story is robust, not one time where comedy is cringe, and how they deliver the complexties of different relationships is superb w/o em ever being possessive? peeps just doin what they do
The franchise feels so metal and fever dream like. Its great.
"If you can handle things being a little bit ugly, and slightly disturbing"
I'm an 2000AD fan so jokes on you.
Dorohedoro is the only manga that is up there with berserk for me. I adore the world, the dirty scratchy art style. All of it is a masterpiece
This show is unbelievably good
This series beautifully encompasses the proverb:
"And life goes on."
Regardless of horrors; joys; ups and downs.
These colored panels are absolutely beautiful great work as always
Glad you like them, the more in depth ones can take forever to make, nice to see they're appreciated!
I like En. He’s a good boss and never yells at his employees. He respects all of their opinions and for the most part, treats them as equals.
Best manga ever.
You almost feel bad for the sorcerers they randomly murder until you realize they’re all just there to fuck people up in the first place.
Dorohedoro was the only manga I've ever read that I was happy with the ending. That's an achievement on its own.
it's criminal that there's no season 2 in sight
Dang, nearly a full hour of content on this one, you guys are really putting in work for our benefit. Keep rockin' and never change, your format is perfect the way it is.
My absolute favorite series. Unironically amazing. Her next series, Dai Dark, is also shaping up to be quite good as well.
Fujita and Ebisu's interaction are the best. It's funny and wholesome (?).
This is such an amazing anime. I loved the story and world of Dorohedoro. Its so original. Watched it multiple times.
I really liked the manga because its different, that woman surely had a lot of fantasy and fun making it, i've read it all and it was the best acid trip ever
I read dorohedoro on late 2018 and ended the manga on early 2019 i have to say it is one of the best mangas I have read and its bat shit insane
I usually don't like animes with soft magic systems, but Dorohedoro takes it's magic so far and its so crazy that I ended up loving it
wow i neve rthought i found another individual who loves this series as much as i do. here no one knews the manga and even the anime no one watched. your documentary on it warms my heart. thanks for this very good synopsis. i think i will re-read dorohedora for the 5th time and enjoy some gyoza on side.
I’m hoping Season 2 is confirmed 🙏🏻😭
We're about to be heading into 2023 in a couple weeks. There hasn't been any info at all about even a consideration for season 2. This far along without even a whiff of anything, just literally nothing. It's more than likely they aren't going to approve another season.
@@SPFLDAngler Mappa is currently very busy with Attack on titan and Jujuutsu Kaisen. Perhaps after those big series they will have time for Dorohedoro. They have announced that they will be opening a CGI focused studio so it wouldn't be weird for them to pick up Dorohedoro. We can dream!
Oh boy how it makes me happy when I see people talk about the greatness that is Dorohedoro
I can confirm.it’s exactly the same thing that happens in San Diego when it rains
I adore this series, still haven’t gotten all the volumes, only have 11 of the 23 which I’m glad it’s getting recognition but my little collector heart is livid
It’s literally my favorite thing that I’ve ever read. Everything else hasn’t been able to even come close since.
One of my favorite manga of all time. Managed to buy all 23 volumes over the course of this year during a re-read.
It's darkness saved me from my own darkness, literally. Great video!
I feel your pain, I have every volume but 23 too. Had to read it digitally.
I had never heard of gyozas until I saw this show - now I can make them on my own, and on a regular basis!
Love the premise. When i watch the first episode, it just hooked me. Then I read the manga and just love it even more. Great characters especially the devils lmao. it's one of the best and unique manga for me.
i’ve been sleeping on dodohedoro for a while now, but i’m 110% getting into this series. good ass vid, man
Dorohedoro lore: exists
Chainsawman lore: finally a worthy opponent, our battle will be legendary !
This is the most fascinating, complex, and confusing anime I have ever watched.
So Noi is a healer AND a tank?
Terrifying.
You forgot
This is one of the best mangas ever
Netflix or nappa ain't never gonna give it the full series
Need more seasons 😭 it’s one of the greatest anime of all time
Dorodedoro was such a unexpected gem omfg. So good. Easily one of the best animes on Netflix
Such an underrated series, man. This is GOLD. Too bad I don't think there's a second season coming around anytime soon.
it will sell more manga and keep it as our hidden treasure.
Well a second season is coming, be happy
Thank god. At last a youtuber who doesn't think he has to make a fucking essay about how intellectual every anime/manga is. Nice format!
Well, atleast it's not as obnoxious as with most anime youtubers.
I’ve watched this video countless times. The nature of this show is just genius. Saddest part is that I don’t see any updated videos regarding this show at all.
Can we please change that. I want to see this get animated all the way through ! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Also devil nikaido, before she goes full devil, gave me a particular need for a very specific kind of crazy.
Dai Dark by Q is also a fantastic read. I think it's still only on less than 20 chapters but it's really fun to explore this vast space universe with the most ridiculous of characters.
Dorohedoro in space basically
dorohedoro to me is just plain chaos and fun and i like that
I've completed the manga some time ago, I just come back to this video every now and again because I love this story.
What's beautiful is that the tone is consistent. If it goes into comic relief, it's dark humor. It goes into mystery and psychological horror at times, but never long enough to be any of those two specifically and we are back to Dorohedoro mode.
Amma say what all of us are thinking but scared to say... "We need season 2"
people really be catchin da smoke in this show
Dude im subbing immediately. You just made me love my favorite anime even more than i did and had me in tears. I hope we get another season. And shout out to FEMME mangakas!!!
There is also time travel which adds more confusion. But I loved it.
Dorohedoro is the anime equivalent of Pulp Fiction.
Love this comment! I can actually see that.
