My Honest REVIEW of KOF XV

- KOF XV has been out for more than a couple of weeks, and now that the hype around the game has subsided a bit, I think it is the perfect time to make an honest review of SNK's latest installment of their flagship series; The King of Fighters.

It took more time to make than I thought! Hope you'll find it somewhat useful ^^
Yessir! analysis over 9000. Good stuff, man
It was! Why don’t you make a Top 10/20 of only forgotten characters that deserve a spot in XV?
Hello Shoryugame.
Thanks for this review.
Did you know that KOF XV is most likely the final chapter of the Dimensions (Shun) Saga?
There is an interview that says that.
Couldn't care less about the storyline. They are made up rubbish anyway. Most people don't play fighting games for storyline anyway. If Gamers want decent storylines, then we have open world games, Rpgs,Jrpgs, and point and click. Mortal kombat went Hollyweird on our ass with convoluted bullshit story, which most gamers didn't give a shit about. Gameplay and graphics and cool ass characters is what most of us care about.
It will not be the best game. KOF XVI will be because it’ll be likely a dream match (I hated the no story despite Nameless being deep in lore in 2002 UM, so it better not happen again with Love Heart and Mui Mui). Although a KOF 12 UM would be better, if 13 wasn’t the worst game in terms of roster and lore, with a very good final boss, climax, ending, and that’s it. Oswald was cut, Gato was cut, and Adelheid was just a support along with Heidern (who wasn’t in the Ash saga at all), Vanessa, Ramon, Blue Mary, and Seth (who will never return because of the voice actor being dead and no new one for some reason). Those graphics are not worth it, and it’s ugly in my opinion. Eolith pushed SNK to adding the New Faces and 97 special teams in the original 2002, so they will likely not be in 12 UM because of laziness.
The meter system in this game is awesome. Less annoying than XIII and more practical than XIV. It's my personal favourite meter system in the entire series.
Xiii is just loop fest u got hit one time that's is 90 too 70% health gone loo
I love how versatile it is. Some players, like me, will burn more meter for EX moves. Other people will prefer quick max cancels!
I really like this game, and I rank it quite highly on my all time list somewhere in the Top 5. The biggest complaint I have with the game is the lackluster "Story Mode". I gave them a pass in KOF XIV since they were getting back on their feet, but I can't give them one here. The old arcade mode with character endings trope doesn't cut it for a Story Mode anymore, they need to step it up in that department. There were hints of it, but not enough to call it satisfactory. It's one of the many reasons why games like MK, Tekken and Guilty Gear are so successful.
You can't compare the size of WARNER BROTHERS and BANDAI NAMCO to SNK, is a completely unfair comparison and an unreasonable expectation, with a company as small as SNK you either put the money on Online and gameplay or non important features like a story mode, and SNK did the best with what they have.
@@danriu I'm not comparing, I'm saying one of the reasons why those games are more successful is that they care about Single Player content. I'm not asking for high quality ultra realism, I'm asking to put forth effort. I'm just asking for the bare minimum. I'm just asking them to try. That's the bare minimum. Plus it's done before with lower budgets. There's no excuse
@@bwareist Like for example?
@@danriu The biggest name in FG's in recent memory to show this was Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. The game had a significantly low budget and was able to implement a proper story mode. Even though it's not directly stated Soulcalibur VI has shown signs that it didn't have that big of a budget either. I'm not saying they need to pull out a GG, MK or Tekken. I'm just asking them to try. There are hints of it here and there but it's not enough.
@@bwareist That game was a failure, how funny you mentioned the worst possible example for your case, and every fighting game personality that talks about the case always mention that their mistake was to invest on a story mode instead of the actual presentation and roster of the game which was what killed it, and what SNK is doing great with KOF XV and is selling amazingly well, you basically are just a casual looking for casual content, is not what actually sells and maintain fighting games specially low budget ones.
Been looking forward to this from you! Hearing your thoughts on the game, especially the lore was something that KOF fans and you really made me pay attention to this time around.
The best feature that Kof 13 has over Kof 15 is the color customization. You can make any of your favorite characters new color palette 🎨. The possibilities were endless.
You're right. I don't know if XV could include this feature with its 3D models.
If this mode gets added into 15, then it'll actualy be my favorite KOF game, wel, I LOVE this game, but as you said, the thing 13 has over 15 is color customization.
Lets just hope it gets added.
I just wanna say it's so refreshing to hear someone talk about KOF XV without making the whole thing "god I miss XIII" or "It's ok but it's not Guilty Gear Strive". It felt like it was either people new to KOF and expecting ArcSys graphics or people who really, really missed the XIII sprites. It just feels nice to have someone talk about the game on it's on merits (for the most part), and not laser-focus on the graphics of the game.
"is not gg strive" me as a gg fan "thank god, cuz i dropped that game"
@@Canalbiruta Yeah I don’t like Guilty Gear lol
You're of the fewest kof hardcore kof fans who gave an unbiased honest review so long to this game.. you gave it its right fairly.. THANKS
I'm glad you found it helpful.
Personally, KoF XV just feels good. That's the long and short of it, it feels _good_ to play. It feels snappy and responsive, and the cancels feel oh-so good. The only thing I would want is if they maybe made it so characters could juggle a little bit more freely, since one of my favorite things about KoF XIII in comparison was how good it felt to land a fat combo off of a stray hit.
It also has the opposite problem of most fighting games to me; I struggle to find a main in most fighting games, whereas with XV despite being 3v3 I'm having a hard time choosing characters to play. Between Ralf, Ash, Terry, Clark, Kyo, Iori, Ryo, Vanessa, Krohnan, Blue Mary, Antonov, Kukri, Robert, Elizabeth... honestly, I love to play most of the roster. Especially with Yamazaki coming in May, I have most of my favorite characters in the game.
Overall, the game doesn't have Shingo so 0/10.
I agree. The game is a lot of fun and all characters are super enjoyable.
Hmmm, only characters I am maining are Iori and Krohnen once I try to get the game.
I wish story mode was more like KOF 13 where you can go off on different paths and get to fighting different bosses and stages depending on if you meet certain requirements or make different choices
I wish KOF 12 has character story mode & i wish KOF 13, KOF 14, & KOF 15 has both campaign story mode & character story mode.
Thank you so much for the review, Shoryugame. I really appreciate the amount of details you have to breakdown in order to determine how well 15 holds out, especially the comparison to other entries. A quick shoutout for mentioning Athena when mentioning the characters who actually looked better in their transition from 13 to 14. I, honestly, never been a fan of her design in 13 and 12. I said several times before but she looked like she suffered a case of reversed aging. Overall, I’m glad 15 managed to be another great entry in the franchise. Here’s hoping SNK can raise the bar even higher! (And Team Orochi get their alternate forms.)
I hope so too, and thank you for the kind comment!
XV is absolutely fun and beginner friendly! I've been having a good time online and enjoyed going through the story mode with all the teams.
That said, the game's still beginning and I hope it will add some extra content. Because I want to play Endless with my girl, Athena! I'm hoping we some of the bosses that were revived from Verse. Otoma=Raga and Re Verse were awesome and cool as new bosses, but we're too easy to deal with. I really hope it isn't the end for the Shun'ei saga.
But anyway, here's to KOF XV, and for more KOFs to come!
I luke Shun ei but I realise he sorta sucks I'n character design. I want snk to move on from his storyline and fluff filler Isla crap. It's time for a fresh story. The nests saga was ok but I couldn't wait for it to end. Story's in fighting games is like a story in a porn flick. 99% of the viewers dont give a shit. Most of us just want the action. Isla got same power as Shun ei boring and cliched. Oh yeah give a female the same powers as the thrash hero. My God how cliched. Shun EU sucks as the main dude. Kyo is way better and so was K Dash. Sick of headphone cornball Shun ei. I love his moveset but just looking at him. Reminds me how corny he actually looks. When I look at Kyo and Iori they are too bad ass Chad's. Terry a bad ass chad, same with Kim. Even Sie Kensou looks decent in kof 14.
I feel like Otoma Raga could be hard even with the current moveset. SNK just didn't make the AI troll enough, even on the current highest difficulty.
Imagine a difficulty up to 8 (from 5) and health regeneration between rounds, we can all rage harder again.
I didn't expect that Blue Mary and Anton bit. Thank you for your insight.
You're welcome!
I think snk should add the feature/ability to turn off rush combos in kof 15
more options = better
Maybe the tag system can be added to it... As an option...
@@royshaheer I have doubts if it can work that way. Turning KoF into tag requires a lot of thinking, it cant be an extra thing that is handled so lightly. After all, the failure of striker and Tag games is related to the poor implementation of those mechanics, that Snk just couldnt polish enough when they made yearly sequels. So that must not happen again. Snk needs to carefully plan the gameplay around the tag system.
Nope
@@carlosaugusto9821 but hey, more options = better
Or at least nerf them even more. I like the idea of them using the resources more recklessly compared to a full blown crafted combo, but still, needs to do less damage. The mind set riot has with project L is exactly what can solve rush combos "is not about closing the gab between casuals and pros, is about making it fun regardless"
I pretty much agree with your review, especially the absence of game modes and the auto combos. I'd love a type of world tour mode that's also part of the story mode where you go through the tournament with a team and not only get their backstory in combo with the main story, but also go through various challenges and get buffs on RPG like attributes as you go through the tournament. I was surprised that they don't even have a survival mode, or give you the option to do either Team or Single play like they do in previous entries. I'm hoping they will add some major patches to the game to add to the game (and have an option to turn off auto combos).
Another thing I'd like to add is that a lot of the characters are fun as hell to play with. I'm finding myself playing with characters I usually don't even touch in previous KOFs, but on 15 I find myself playing with Clark, Khronen, Ralf, etc. Every fighter has something fun and unique about them, and it honestly makes it difficult to find a concrete team to stick with. My mains are normally Andy and Chris (which I'm happy that they added Chris again!), with a toss up for the 3rd, but now I find myself having multiple teams to play with. This is the most I've played a KOF game since maybe Dreammatch '99 on Dreamcast and KOF 2000.
You're right about the characters being so much fun. I'm in the same situation as you. I still can't find my definitive main team. So many good choices!
I wish KOF XV has a new age & a new era.
Great review as always when it come to KOF I know to always come here for the best reviews and info and breakdowns thanks
Thanks! I appreciate the kind comment!
Your Welcome you are the reason why Ik a lot bout the back storys of KOF been watching your vids for a while now wish you nothing bout more success…….and side note I was really hoping they would of brought back nameless instead of that new k9999
this is truly one of the best reviews I've seen so far, & u have nose for picking up details that makes me watching this video feeling nice. nicely edited, well put together.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Biggest audio gripe I have is that 2002UM music isn’t included in the DJ Station when they used songs from that game in the trailer.
I think this means the announcer is true power behind the scenes. It was him the whole time!
2:15 It definitely should have been in the game itself, but there actually _is_ story information on why each team entered and their motivations. Each team's story intro is on the KoF XV website.
Also: I actually don't really mind the rush combos. Even though they look cheap, anyone who manages to land a rush Climax super could have theoretically done a better combo and gotten more damage.
In any situation in which you can land LP->LP->LP->rush Super, it is perfectly possible to land LP->Quick MAX activate->heavy normal->special move->Super Special Move->Climax super, and this will do much more damage. So really, it's kind of a waste of meter most of the time.
Great review!! It's a relief to hear that the game is not only good in general, but that it is also easy to learn AND that it runs well on the base PS4
Glad I could help!
I love the announcer but it its weird when they say "player 1/2 needs a miracle" when I have a life lead like you said.
I don't mind the announcer talking in the sub boss and final boss fights, I think the game announcer isn't talking in the canon universe.
I really like the announcer of KOF XV
It reminds me of the one in Regulation A
@@meganinten0078 yeah. I like that announcer in a more funny way but it's really good a times like the way it has two different announcing sounds for the characters. But I am happy we don't have to hear " A counter hit. That's going to leave a bruise!" ever again.
@@blaze6477 I agree.
That line is stuck in head XD
I still prefer the announcer of KOF 98 and 2001 but the one in XV is easily in my top 5
@@meganinten0078 the one in 98 can be a bit too loud for me sometimes. The 2001 announcer is cool. Love the way he shouts "KO!" XV's announcer isn't just good because of the way he sounds, it's because the extra comments he says in the fights are cool and relevant most of the time and can make matches more hype. Like the Maximum impact 2 and XIV announcer but better.
Totally agree on Rush Combos. I'm glad they are there for people who want them, but I want to turn them off for myself because it becomes something I have to actively avoid triggering.
I just wish rush combos could not end with level 3 climax but be limited to a special move or a level one super to be more fair
@@mathieud1256 Rush combos are not unfair, they are pretty much just a raw climax after a few hits that do the damage of a wet noodle, wheras you could do a string into max mode then a string into one or two ex moves then combo into your climax for the same meter cost.
@@mathieud1256 They're plenty fair. They scale REALLY hard.
@MarioCraft they certainly save too much of an ass when panicking and unable to press command inputs for combos, special moves, or CLIMAX at the right timing. Pressing mindlessly your light punch button instead allows you to crush half of your opponent's life bar without precise timing in a reckless way to make a comeback that is so cheap i can't help but feel uncomfortable with. Especially when i see players that seem to rely too much on it as if they don't care a shit about exploring more of what the gameplay actually has to offer.
@@mathieud1256 I think the loss in damage justifies the easy difficulty, though I agree that it might discourage new players from finding the coolest stuff this game has to offer.
Great video as always! This is my favorite KOF game by far.
Best review right here thanks for mentioning all the aspects of the game, but 1 thing i would have like to use the dj music in story mode
Always love your detailed content, good job...
Thank you!
I loved your thorough review. I really love the game, I bought the Deluxe Digital version to support SNK and their DLC. I can't wait for the first DLC team.
Loved the review. Having a lot of fun playing this game. My personal favorite kof is 98 cause 02 sometimes gets frustrating with those never end combos. This might be the second best kof but shall know for sure by the years end if this game calls me back like 98 does even now.
Will probably get it on sale. Thanks man.
Best KoF IMO, go get this on Steam!
I really enjoy your passion for KOF and your talk from experience. Such a great game
I appreciate that!
I totally agree on the rush combos. I'm so accustomed to chaining certain attacks and now halfway thru that chain the rush combo will activate.
For Kof standards I think the story was fine. I liked the rival team's cutscenes the most.
Hello bro.
Hey.
Did you know that it is more likely that KOF XV is the final chapter of this saga?
@@meganinten0078 yeah it does seem like it. From the hero team and rival team endings it does give that vibe. A bit dissapointing for Shun. I liked Isla's narrative through this story personally. Shun's ending was nice too for me.
@@blaze6477 Yep.
I guess the story was rushed because of the Arab Prince buying SNK and now owns most of the company.
Making this saga the worst in terms of story.
Say all you want about Eolith and KOF 2001, but the ending was more satisfying.
@@meganinten0078 why do you have to bring up kof 2001 in everything? XD
i just wanna say that i really love ur videos keep going . from algeria
Thank you so much!
Ok, I’ll present my vision of KOF 16.
The final chapter in saga must be the most epic, so we need same character roster.
This is the reason, why I will perform huge changes in KOF teams. But, some teams won’t be changed, like Orochi team.
- Team Hero: Shun’ei, Meitenkun and Mian (she is also from China)
- Team Kyo: Kyo, Shingo and Yuki (Kyo’s girlfriend, who was playable in SNK gals’ fighters)
- Team Kagura: Chizuru, Iori and Maki (her soul was inside Verse)
- Team Orochi: No changes
- Team Super Babe: Isla, Athena and Sylvie
- Team Psycho Soldier: Kensou, Bao and Momoko
- Team Ikari: Heidern, Leona and Whip
- Team K’: K’, Lin and Nameless (I want him back…)
- Team Ash: Ash, Duo Lon and Oswald
- Team Dolores: Dolores, Kukri and Najd (she should appear in some of teams)
- Team Past: Saiki, Shion and Botan
- Team Kim: Kim, Dong Hwan and Jae Hoon
- Team South Town: Geese, Krauser and Mr. Big
- Team Jin: Chonrei, Chonshu and White (I wish to see him in another SNK game)
- Team Masters: Saisyu, Tung and Chin
- Team Kula: Kula, Foxy and Diana
- Team American Sports (they should return)
- Team Another World: No changes
- Team Rival: Mizuki Rashojin, Syao and Falcon (villains from Dragon Gal and Sky Love)
- Mid-bosses: Antonov, Mars People and Gaidel
Like in KOF XI, player usually encounters Antonov, but there are special conditions to fight another character.
This is main 20 teams, or 60 characters total.
Now it’s time for talk about DLC teams
- Team Maximum Impact: Alba, Luise and Lien (as Soiree was kidnapped in KOF MI 2 ending)
- Team Bernstein: Rugal, Adelheid and Rose (she was forced to fight)
- Team Goenitz: Goenitz, Mature and Vice
- Team Zero: Zero, Clone Zero and Krizalid
- New Team NESTS: Igniz, Misty and Ron
- New Team Garou: Kain, Grant and Freeman
- Team Buriki One:
- Team Dark Kombat:
- Team EX:
- Team Anti-Kyo:
- Team New Faces: It’s alternative version of Orochi Team in 97. The team contains three new original figures.
Now we have 31 teams, or 95 characters (+ Anastasia/playable boss and Uni Verse/unplayable boss). It’s bigger than 2002UM.
However, the game will come to this number during the long period of support, perhaps 3-5.
I would like to return of many KOF characters, so this list can be interpreted as my “dream match”.
If you have your own opinion, I’ll be pleased to listen it.
According to an interview apparently this is already the end of the saga.
@@prof.laytonfan764 Yes.
That's a fact.
I feel sorry for Shun's story.
@@meganinten0078 Are you serious!? I mean, it makes sense story wise. Re-Verse should’ve been the final boss, and Otoma=Raga would’ve been the boss of 16, but every story arc in KOF is around 3 games along with the 4th game being a dream match (minus the Orochi saga). Why would they stop now when we don’t even know where Shun’ei and Isla’s powers come from?
@@chefv1deogame It is most likely because, much of SNK was bought by an arabian prince
Arabs owned SNK, no longer chinese
This was a really good review great work shoryu
Thanks a ton!
4:55
This is another reason I enjoy this content.
2:33 Didn't the Developers or some thing say in an interview that XV was the conclusion to XIV.
Even in XV's trailer they said it was the climax of the story, that's just funny to me.
4:53 okay that was so uncalled far that I laughed so hard
Great video!
Thanks!
Yet another W for Shoryu 😌 Amazing video!
Thank you!
excellent review! it covers a lot
Thanks! Glad you think so!
King's fabric from her clothes lags the game a bit on the ps4 version lol.
Nice review man i also uploaded mine today what a coincidence. Keep up the good work KOF legend
Thanks, you too!
@@ShoryuGame Thanks man!
The Individual Intros are very cool!
It is a shame it is only for Story Mode.
I really like them.
It makes me feel like watching those pre battle presentations in wrestling matches.
Whip, King of Dinosaurs and Angel have my favorite
I am mad that the bosses were underwhelming. I like difficulty which is why I play Nintendo hard games.
Duuude I completely relate to the rush combo issue. I don’t think it would be much of a problem if it didn’t end in a lvl 3 super. I feel like I try my best to do combos I spent hours learning, just to get hit by a rush combo that takes half of my HP Gauge😭
You can choose an ender, you don't HAVE to spend meter! On the last hit try each button besides Light Punch, I believe Light Kick is the meterless option.
Thank you for your honest review, i've been waiting for it. I do agree on many of the aspects you talked about but i also disagreed on a few (i actually like the rush combos). but yes, overall it is a great review. it would be an honor If I could play against you on the PS4, I even sent a request to add you on my PS4 friends list.
Thanks to you too!
I miss the 2D sprites, but after the shitshow that was development on 12 and 13 I understand why they went full 3D.
Looks like you've been enjoying Clark as well. I never thought he'd be a main for me but he feels great in this game!
I also main King too, but that's always a given in any KoF.
Yeah, I love Clark a lot in this game!
Awesome Review ShoryuGame and Hope you Enjoy of KOFXV For The Awesome Masterpiece Game and Look Foward of Rock Howard Analysis Video Soon.
Thanks! Will do!
I don't like rush combos but they are a good way to get more casual fans involved. KOF is known for it's high execution and offensive options. I think player pool will be dramatically lower fi they were not in the game. Plus, nobody is opening you up on defense off a rushdown combo. They mainly come from random hits and punishes. Which means we are the ones who made the mistake to get hit by those. One another note, I enjoyed the video section breakdown. Very helpful since to skip to the sections I wanted to watch.
I just wanna say that the graphics of KOFXV and KOFXIII are on par for me. Go ahead sue me fight me i don't care
I get your frustration with rush combos as I did not liked them when I picked KOF XV at first, now I only use them in rekkas (with Kyo and Iori for example), as pokes inmediately dropping it at hit 3 or as kill confirm
Good job mate, what about making a tutorial video with your favourites characters to teach us how to perform the best combos ? :)
I'll think about it
The mechanics are an improvement from 14 including how auto combos work. The roster is pretty weak and extremely safe simultaneously. The online is pretty solid though as is the presentation.
I might be crazy but does this game seem really off in terms of reading inputs? I'm playing on PS4 but I've been having to use the buffer trick where you input the motion then hold the buttons down to do combos, Advanced Cancels and Climax Cancels much more than KOF13. It feels like you have to input things slow and deliberate instead of quick and reactive and it makes even basic things like cr. LK x 2 > Special feel really cumbersome.
I did the same combo with Joe on XIV and XV. I could hardly do it on XV, it was fine in XIV. Reddit downvoted me, but i literally have both games and it's the case. I do the same thing, one game it works, on the other it doesn't. I cannot explain why. I just feel it when playing.
I thought it was unreal engine 4.
Kof 15 has alot of issues.

The roster is fine wdym
Also the amount of mods made for this game are so awesome
Good review bro !
Glad you liked it
KOF 98, 13, and now 15 are the best three to me
KOF XV is one of my favorites
If SNK manages to take the best aspects from this (gameplay, music and quality of the roster) and up it for the next game with more character interactions, more offline modes, fully animated and voiced team endings and more details in the background (like seeing your team mates on the sidelines like in the Orochi saga) it would the best KOF yet.
Your analysis was top notch and well detailed , now concerning the series ranking this game would definitively be in the top 5 but in order for it to be the BEST it would require few more aspects :
a couple more gorgeous stages maybe in futre DLC season passes (the stages in this game are already the best)
missions that are on-par or even better than those in 2002UM or MAX IMPACT 2 (don't forget challenge mode shoryu it is a blast but also nightmare depending on how you progress )
more great DLC picks including my boy shingo , oswald , shen , igniz and let's give some obscure SNK characters a chance (imo the mid-boss guests in kof XI were a huge draw and contributed to the game 's success)
give me at least one mid boss in arcade mode
and THAT s it 😀😀😀💥💥 SHATTER ALL EXPECTATIONS!!!!!
I agree with on what you said. Time to bring back some obscure characters!
thanks for the video. The black outline around the players is called [car]toon render.
the climax super animation ( or any other) would have been done by the artists(in this case animators) and probably not by the developers.
Thanks for the insights!
"And nerfing these two!"
LMAO i got schmixed by the serious tone and the sudden bomb drops
this! this is the way you should review a fighting game. biases aside, the information conveyed through this vids makes me able to decide whether it's a good product or not. KoF it's not only about legacy or nostalgia, each series has its own charms and setback. the last part about comparison is what really sells me because you tell your opinion that O2 UM is still the best but gives XV a chance. the game is still new and there's lots of possibilities happens.
Also... curious, do you watch the latest SNK Japan official tournament? what are your thought on it?
Thanks for the compliment. I haven't watched the tournament yet.
I kind of like the auto combo system for noobs. It makes them feel like they can still compete with people who can combo supers the legit way eventhough it has a medium damage penalty. If you're an intermediate player trying to do combos the legit way the noobs with autocombos will give you about an even challenge. Stomping noobs is fun but it gets old real fast so overall letting the noobs play at an intermediate level is more fun for both intermediate players and the newbies.
Thank you so much for your detailed and insightful reviews! I haven't played yet XV neither 2002 UM so I couldn't give an honest opinion. So far, my favourite one is XI (and GMotW, but I would be cheating if I include it in a Kof list).
Glad I could help!
4:52 - 4:57 HAA!🤣
That Was Hilarious! This is Why I Love your KOF Videos. Great review.
Thank you!
Thank you sir you actually gave a real unbiased review on this you talked about both the pros and the cons about the game you sir you are the real hero
Thank you so much! Glad you found it useful.
I wish kof would just make an arcade mode which would be the usual story mode and the story mode had you pick a set team like the og kof then play through that specific team's story through the tournament even if they lose early in the tournament just have them do stuff outside of the tournament the way they do story modes always bothered me because kof actually has good story but the way they deliver it is just so awful if it wasn't for your channel I wouldn't be as invested in the kof story as I am you are the sole reason I even know and understand the kof story thank you for your content you deserve more subs and views your channel is underrated glad I found it keep up the good work
The auto combos to me at least are among the least annoying and better thought out I've seen so far alongside with guilty gear's stylish mode. But i agree that it still need a tweak. I don't think turn off, but maybe the mode select from gg or even less damage would help a lot with the feeling of cheapness.
Also, my fav kof is 2002 um, but oh boy! 15 is getting pretty close on surpassing it, even allowing me to play my dream team in my fav gameplay in the series (athena, blue mary and b. Jennet). Last time i've put a game in second place in the series until further hours of gameplay, it was Metroid dread, and with 100 hours it became my favorite, so let's say kof 15 is a heavy candidate to steal 2002's spot aswell.
I never trust a single Critic or Journalist to ever Review a Fighting Game like KOF XV (Cough IGN and Inverse Cough),
But if its on the right hands of a true Gamer, it's worth the Review to watch to gain my Trust.
Hello bro.
What is your opinion about the story of the game?
@@meganinten0078 It was Good, it wasn't really Impactful but it was certainly a way better Story than MK11, SF5, DOA6 and even T7,
But other than that, I've actually only enjoyed the Sub-Plots that are way more Interesting than the Main Plot.
@@joseurbina3835 For me the story was decent.
It feels rushed especially the main plot.
As you said, the subplots were more interesting.
Team Krohnen's ending is easily the BEST!
KOF XV feels like an happy ending for everyone.
I still prefer the bittersweet finale of KOF XIII but I have to admit, it makes me feel happy for all the characters even tho I still HATE reviving dead character.
Did you know that KOF XV is most likely the final chapter of the Dimensions Saga?
@@meganinten0078 Yeah, I read an Article about it not too long ago when "Chris Lotus" made in his Community Post,
Guess the Verse/Shun'Ei Saga has Abruptly Ended in just 2 Games instead of the Usual 4 or 3 from the previous KOF Sagas, that was pretty Unfortunate.
Edit: Also, Otomo=Raga is basically Kronika 2.0 from MK11. LMAO 😂
Yoooo this review is similar to my experience, but I have 2 things to say. I think that with online training it's more for a one on one kinda deal Vs people just jumping in with little way to contact you if they don't already know you. The other thing is when it comes to the rush combos I don't mind it, but the salt should appropriately flow when that's how you lose. Damn one more thing 15 has a longer delay input so it def takes getting used to, play around with it or instead of walk up power wave it's rising tackle lol.
Thanks for the review, I wanna know your thoughts on this Ash Saga didn't get a dream match unless you wanna say that's KoF XII, where would you like the next dream match to take place? Ash Saga or maybe post Shun'ei (KoF Xvii)?
Draft mode is simply genius, I would love to see this mode played in official match like when MOBA game genre used. The draft phase of each match will be crazily anticipated
Plot twist: The announcer is the actual mastermind
I knew it!
You should have done auto combos more. You would be shocked at how situational they are. You have to be point blank, closer than throw range. You cant push forward or backward and must be in neutral just to get it to work. Almost all of them can be ducked. I'll put it this way. If you get hit by one, you deserve it, and blaming the game for it is kinda pointless. ;)
Announcer is Goated, needs no change
I agree with you on the rush combos. I know they are there for newbie players that are having a hard time pulling even a basic combo, but they should've at least given us the option to enable or disable them so we can make our own combos.
Although, I don't really have a problem facing a player using the "EASY MODE" combo. It's so satisfying to beat people using your own style of combo to prove them their rush combo is weak compared to my combo ;-)
Rush combos are my biggest gripe with the game. I tend to string my combos off a string of light punches and kicks. I have had to alter my play style.
Unfortunately yeah, we need to do low attacks or alternate standing and crouching instead as a workaround. At least it works for the most part, and XV (+XIV) has easier comboing of light attacks into each other than previous entries.
For an honest, unbiased review of KOF XV... it's well done mate. Very well done. I got my copy on PS5 and the only difference for me is just faster load times. Other than that, it's the exact same game. I need to get an arcade stick though because those combos are a bitch to deal with and yes, SNK should consider turning off auto combo. I don't mind if it's meant to introduce new players but for veterans who played KOF, they don't need it.
Thanks! Glad you agree with me.
As a first time kof player, I think inputting commands feels needlessly difficult compared to modern fighting games. All I want is a hop macro and fix the bug regarding ex moves (see sonic sol's video regarding the topic).
I totally get how you feel about the rush combos. It took away what make king of fighters unique in my opinion. I always liked the challenge of executing a combo with my own skills in the game (even though I wasn't good at that). And rush combos just takes away that challenge. I would often use it by mistake when fighting too and that's annoying. I know I sound like I played kof for a long time but, I only been playing this game for a year and would prefer it to kinda be like the old sequels.
I agree 100%
Happy first anniversary KOF XV! This game still plays well! One of the best episode of the saga!
One of my biggest complaint about 15 is exactly what you said about the rush combos, I see that and the button mashing down+LK a lot online. But I love the game and it is easily my top 5 favorite KOF games.
Rush combos are simply not practical. Keep in mind that it’s basically just a raw climax with a few weak hits before it, wheras instead you could use the same amount of meter to do a string into quick max, a string into one or two ex moves, then end with the same climax.
A raw climax hurts pretty bad, and you have enough time to react to it. Not when it's done in a rush combo!
@@ShoryuGame Technically yes, but I was referring to the damage of a raw climax and a few hits, vs. a climax after a whole max mode combo.
Hoping it reaches its potential. This is my first kof game and I'm enjoying learning but definitely want more single player content to avoid getting stomped online
I have a question. In a recent interview, KOF 15 director said that KOF 15 is the last game of the story that started in KOF 14. Is that mean KOF 15 is the last game of Verse saga or there will be another game? Will KOF 16 start a new saga with new protagonist or something?
5:05 I guess I have to be that guy.
I like the artstyles of KOF XIII
Athena's design is one of my favorites.
Same with Takuma and especially Mai.
I don't like realisitic artstyle/body proportions anymore
Same reason why I prefer Ben 10 Omniverse and American Dragon Jake Long Season 2 artstyles.
The characters in XV don't even look realistic lol.
@@blaze6477 i am not talking about KOF XV
I am just defending why I like XII and XIII Athena.
@@meganinten0078 oh ok. I like how Athena looked in XII too. Just a homage. I mean it is jarring, especially from everyone else in the roster but I still don't think she looks bad.
Once you've seen a schoolgirl outfit, you've seen 'em all. I love Athena, but I'm kinda happy she put her away her XII/XIII uniform. The same can be said for XI.
Everytime you fight a Maxima, you have to chant:
"Dicks out for Harambe"
Other than the lack of single player content I do think the game itself is good and might be the best KOF game we had in a while. Mainly because of the fact that it's so accessible to new players while not sacrifing its skill ceiling. Also seeing some returning characters like team Orochi (who we haven't saw for like 20 years in a canon game if I'm not mistaken) is pretty cool imo. Great review man.
Thanks! Yeah, the game is really good.
Presentation wise, it is midway between 13 and 14, i'll take it.
Plus it has potentials with the dlc characters. I hope they include lots of dlc characters until the ultimate version almost include everyone from every version. :)

Alright that joke was actually extremely clever
I'd be fine without the rush combo, its fine to have 1 auto combo but when it does half of your health then thats a little silly. Some people will just opt to do that instead of actually learning the character which I think is silly. Nice review, I love the game, personally I wish there were some more stages but thats fine, all the main stuff I like is here. My team is Khronen, K, and Isla!
3 bars for 50% damage is really inefficient. Keep in mind that the rush itself does tiny damage, it’s carried by the climax. Instead you could combo a string into max mode, do a string into an ex move or two, then go into the climax for the same meter cost.
But you also need to train hard and risk dropping that combo, which is very likely to happen.
If I could change 3 things I would make rush combos optional, change the button notations on trial mode, and put that animated short as an intro, its almost criminal that it isnt.
i love when the commentator says OTOMA RAGA THE GODDESS OF TRUTH!!!! like she's a wrestler and not an interdimensional being that should give you an existential crisis
Exactly!
This is still the best review for kof15.
Thanks! Glad you think so.
Well you are going to be a bit cross with me because a friend and me do enjoy the simple rush combos only because the pretzel motions just to do the super climax specials is just a bit much and I found myself only able to do a super climax special once and never able to repeat it again. May need to practice more on that front but I do agree that the online is just fantastic, even if I lost like three casual matches lol. Single player content is definitely low but at least you do get unlockable soundtracks from older games which is more then I can say for KOF12 that had literally nothing and the characters look fantastic in 15 with some small exceptions. Overall, the game still room to grow but it makes me happy that a lot of people are playing a KOF game again and that the OST is very soild. Definitely like Isla more then Shun'ei but I do agree with you on one thing:That cool movie SHOULD just be in the damn game when you boot it up! That video was so cool and to see it only be in a menu is just sad but soild review of the game Shoryu!
There is no Pretzel motion XV!
I agree about rush combos I can't stand them either. I could care less that people use them but for me I do them by accident sometimes mashing.
I'm getting better at the game so it doesn't happen to me as often but on occasion I get lost in my buttons and do it smh.
I guess it's a good way to teach you not to mash the buttons but sometimes I wish you could remove them in the options.
I enjoy the new meter mechanics system. Now I feel like I can use meter before my anchor
I agree Rush combos was a mistake. Yet developers always has to think about the people who aren't gonna play the game seriously and drop it in a week after getting beat up. Sadly for us we just have to deal with it. I'd also love a system where I can just press Jab multiple times an not get a auto combo. Literally taking away a useful poke button
I'm In lower ranks around rank 7 an getting a feel for the game. I do my pokes and get my combos consistently an I feel good about the match I'm having. Me an my opponent get down to the last characters an it gets tense an out of nowhere I start seeing how badly they want to win cause they just start mashing Auto combo swinging for the fences. I've been playing Fighting games for a long time so I can tell when they get stressed an just want to win.
You gotta try online training its like training but with a friend still have the menu can swap characters mid play too. I did it with a guy I met who wanted to test his clark against my ralf. Hey! Did u know if Ralph and clark fight last round on metal slug stage the music changes
Yeah, you're right. That was the case in XIV as well.
"... and nerfing these two.." - terry and ralf everywhere
Great video Shoryu! So, I'm a bit disappointed by the rush combos news. I remember when wwe games switched from THQ to 2K, and 2K added this feature of auto grapple moves. It sounds like nothing but what used to be a specialized skill was suddenly easy as flicking the controller in a certain direction. I completely killed any competitiveness and gameplay me and my friends had with the series after playing the games for nearly a decade. So I completely understand despising rush combos. It sucked when street fighter made every super practically the same input. There is accessibility and then making the game way too easy. We even complained back then that auto grapple should be optional, but unfortunately, 2K never listened. I hope SNK does and makes rush combo's optional. I won't be using them.
Otherwise, this looks like a awesome game! Can't wait to start playing which should be soon! Thanks Shoryu!
Glad I could help!
I only like rush combos against the computer when I play with characters I have no business using. and that's cause I'm just playing with said people for an ending. but yeah, I've been hit with them online and it just bothers me that I couldn't get around it lol. but I'm sure at higher ranks they aren't a thing. but I'm only rank 13 myself.
Yes I agree. Disable the rush combo snk
