I would love to see more non-GW stuff on the channel! As much as I like the GW sculpts, it's refreshing to see something new. When you guys have fun, it really shows
@@christianslattery1954 Trench crusdae is a bit too early in playtesting. maybe in a year or so when rules become more stable and the models get a style. i would vote for stargrave!
The idea of making a terrain out of something super bio-degradable, on purpose, as a form of confronting one's Emotional Baggage over things having to be perfect or usable or "earn" the right to be made in one's head is freaking AMAZING. Holy shit I like this so much. I am going to do something like this.
For those looking to get into Turnip28, it's well known in the community at this point that Perry Miniatures is a really good source of material. Not only because they have both Napoleonic and Medieval plastic kits (among other things), they also sell individual sprues from their kits. (Look under the Plastic Range -> Accessories tab). Which can be a cheap way to obtain very specific bits, or to dip into certain unit types (like cavalry or cannons) that would otherwise require purchasing a whole kit. Another tip for modeling: you could make tiny lengths of root by unraveling strands of jute cord (available at many gardening supply or even dollar/pound stores), twisting them into frayed bits, and soaking them in a dab of super glue to lock them in place. (Or PVA, if you don't mind waiting). These can then be stuck into cracks and crevices of your models, to look like they're proper root mutants.
So awesome to see you covering T28! this game is excellent and I have two different warbands for it. The 28 genre of games are so freeing and my first cult for T28 was literally made of leftovers from various other projects and miniatures languishing in my collection. Some old plastic Vikings, became sweater and overall wearing fishment and some Frostgrave minis became scouts wearing the skins of giant fish.
Just starting the video and Dave's musings on art, impermanence, and personal fulfillment is important and very touching. Well said. Funny how even a silly little turnip game can help us on our journey in life and art, eh? (And side note, love the result of the turnip house! It's perfect.)
The idea of using an actual turnip for the cottage is wonderfully on-brand. The completed units look really great. Murray's joy at kitbashing is infectious. Jen's reaction to Rapid Onset Crystallization was remarkably chill.
Yes! This was lovely, would love to see a little miniseries of Turnip28 conversions and paintjobs. It's a joy to see you guys get weird and creative outside the boundaries of the 40K universe. The sort of 'diet Murray-method' Dave used seemed to work really well with the mood and setting. I always enjoy the customizing/kitbashing videos, and I would especially love to see you spend some time on a single centerpiece model painted to a high standart!
For anyone that wants to go deeper into 28 after this wonderful introduction, I humbly present to you some names and games you will want to take a look at: Turnip28 Sludge Mork Borg Forbidden Psalm Cy_Borg Trench Crusade Also notable artists that you should take a look at artists like "Gardens of Hecate" to get a good feeling for the artstyle, and to take a look at the Punk Tabletop Magazine "28 Mag"
Though not a tabletop game, i can also strongly recommend looking up the Zeno Clash series (1, 2 and Clash: Artifacts of Chaos). They have inspirations from lesser-known prehistoric animals and medieval monster art (Hieronymus Bosch and Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel), and a "culture" that is quite slapped-together, violent, bizarre and comical. Weaponry is made from stuff like putting a small anvil with a face on a thick stick to use as a hammer, tying a bunch of bones and a pelvis to a stick to use as a club/sword, a rudimentary grenade launcher that uses the nose part of a cow's skull as a visor or crosshair, and a double rock-launching crossbow with goat horns for the bow, like that of Stranger from Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath The inhabitants of the world are at a very primitive societal leve with not even a proper written language, currency or central organization. They generally slap whatever they like onto themselves and use whatever they can find to make their houses and tools out of. And what for me is one of the best things of all: there's very few humans and there are mainly monsters. Very few Zenos look alike and they're all gnorpy, blarpy flurmuous kerplipilous monsters and freaks. Traits of animals, caricatures, and even less easy elements to describe are assembled in different semblances of sapience. It's a true delight.
What a refreshingly fun video. Honestly looking at all the indie/non-GW games out there and the amazing artwork that is made for them. Its so much more imaginitive and personal. And I love the way Turnip 28 encourages just batshit stuff.
Turnip28 reminds me of the Zeno Clash series in how pretty much anything seems to go for both the inhabitants and the world. Both appear slapped-together, uneven, crooked, mismatched, violent, comical and full of kerplipilous flurmous florby imagination.
That are some cool models. Root vegetable theme, it's a totally new aesthetic. I love it. I am not sure I want to imagine how the turnip house smelled during its "transformation"
The new music segments are brilliant, keep them coming. I just like how you guys just dove in. It looks like it was far more fun than just plopping paint on an unmodified GW model. Please make more!
Turnip28 is fantastic for slap dash kitbashing. Oh, you have gaps in your model? Fill it with spackle and grass tufts. You glued the arms at a weird angle? They've got a root mutation, it's fine. You can get much weirder with it than other games, personally I've been molding and casting teeth to add to my army as relics, it's great
I took a 6 month break from miniature painting and just started back up a few weeks ago and working through the backlog of videos i skipped on YT. Have to say this is one of my favorites, so inspiring!
Loved this video, something very poetic about a slowly decaying turnip house in time-lapse (coincidentally, do you guys have the full time-lapse of the turnip house? ;)) Loved all three of the directions taken. Really hope the video does well enough to encourage you all to build out the war bands and record an impression of how the gameplay went and felt.
I think you've found an ace format there: whacky subject (all hail the Turnip!), believably enthusiastic comments (they just don't sound real with GW stuff) and diverse interpretations of the subject - really great! And the "fishy insert" is the cherry on top!
Oh my god, what a video y'all. Everything about this is delightful. I can see Jen's idea taking off into an in-universe mining guild, maybe based around the aesthetic of old coal mines. Murray's surprise fishman was joyous, he was clearly having such fun. And Dave, wow! What a brilliant execution, and wonderful philosophical goodness to boot. This game really seems to suit your kitbash vibes. I'd kill to see you all do more T28, maybe some of those cool units, but I'll settle for signing up for the Patreon instead. Wonderful, wondeful work, all. What a treat of a video.

In reality hes a doctor that removes or atleast trims away vegetables that have rooted too deep, hes simply trying to help those that cannot help themselves due to their religious devotion, who have been physically effected by the vegetation to the point it hurts them, such as farmers who are being choked out by vines, or someone like your skull soldier who has the plant literally prying into their bodies. While this character can heal your soldiers, they attempt to attack him if hes too close. A land baron that is incredibly obese. he rides around in a wagon pulled by others or held aloft as it lacks wheels. He taxes the people and feasts greedily on their vegetables, but he has religious immunity so the people have no say in this. He can feast on the head vegetables of fallen soldiers to heal or become stronger, or is hes desperate, he can wrench them from still alive soldiers A religious leader thats severely skinny, like unhealthily so. hes the opposite to the land baron, and is kinda pushed around by him as he is quite timid. Hes not the original founder of this clan, perhaps a son of a son of the son of the original, perhaps EXTREMELY inbred aswell. Regardless, he doesnt eat, both due to the religious devotion, and due to the baron eating it all anyways. Due to this devotion, he has powers unlike any other warrior, perhaps hes capable of causing the vegetables to grow much larger, strengthening the warriors, or maybe he can summon the living carrots
Ever since I saw the Bruva Alfabusa Battle Report of Turnip28, I fell in love. Well worth the watch if you haven't seen it. Also, yes! Please make more T28!
Honestly one of my favourite videos you've done. I'd stopped watching since every you do is 40K/ games workshop and as a big kit basher/ scratch builder my self I found quite samey after a while. You bet I came back for the turnip bois though! Would love to see more of this kind of of stuff.
Loved this video! I’ve heard of the game a couple years back, and I never jumped into it because there’s so much converting dot but now that I’m finding a little bit more time to do my own conversions and terrain bills, I’m inspired to jump back into getting models for converting. Thank you for reigniting this flame.
this was amazing and inspiring to watch guys, really makes me want to crack out the hobby kits and give kitbashing a go myself. I loved the little piggy with sausage on a stick and shame that jenns fallen model decided to plant himself in the ground only leaving his feeties to show
I loved this so much. The concept, the different models, and the conversations. From an outside perspective, its so easy to assume that yall think as highly of yourselves as we do, but yeah, things aren't that easy when it comes to judging yourself! All of your concepts were super creative, and I would be very delightfully confused walking into a game store and seeing them! Well done : )
I love that you folks were having so much fun that Murray got excited and joined in too. Also feel the struggle to acknowledge one's own miniature painting as art. It is your artistic expression and it's inspired others to go out and try it themselves.
I'm not much into tabletop gaming but from what I understand of Turnip28, this near total freedom to make whatever blarpy burpy bungos, drippy dreary drolpadoos and generally grotty, grubby, smorpy norpy florpy clorpy cloints, no matter the material, is a fantastical delight. The art direction reminds me of the likes of the Zeno Clash games (1, 2 and Clash: Artifacts of Chaos) with their inspirations from lesser-known prehistoric animals and medieval monster art (Hieronymus Bosch and Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel), and a "culture" that is quite slapped-together, violent, bizarre and comical. I greatly recommend looking into these games.
It was such a joy watching this - you all looked like you were having a blast! Also, that initial bit about art and not needing to fit everything or be perfect... I think a lot of us could benefit from that. It definitely seems like a much healthier way to look at the hobby - doubly for those of us trying to chase GW's ever-changing lists and rules. I hope you continue this or other non-GW stuff! Was awesome to see!
It is really fun to see you explore non GW games and kitbash stuff and come up with characterful ideas. There is a whole 28-communioty with it's own aesthetic to explore and I can only recommend doing more in this direction. I hope you guys and the channel will do better in the future
This was so fun! Especially seeing how much fun you guys seemed to have. Knocked out of the park with the kits. It would be amazing to see more of your T28 builds, amazing!
This looks awesome. Really makes me wanna put something scratchy and weird together. And those little pidgeons and whatnot in the warlords figures are fantastic! Also, special shout out to Murrays Fish Man. a Piscean Mercenary perhaps? Great work from all of you. This was a very fun video. Oh and I am digging the Soundtrack of recent episodes!
Super glad to see you covering this game. The official art makes my conversion brain go nuts. I started planning yesterday! Hero forge is amazing. Great idea for T28!
I've watched a lot of other channels do T28 builds, but this has to be my favourite. The toff on the pig is awesome, and Murray's fish dude is fantastic. I love the idea of the crystals consuming its hosts, the idea of shattering when taking a hit in combat is gruesome. Dave, you could use heritage carrots to define squads, lol. Please do continue this army, it would be great to see something other than another GW army
"Thanks to the carrot he has 20/20 vision" sent me. I love seeing the creativity you all have, and I'm joining the ranks in asking you all to do more non-GW content.
Thank you for doing this! I've been having SO much fun kitbashing and painting my weird little T28 soldiers Glad to see it let y'all take a break and just be silly, artsy, and enjoy yourselves!
Love the refreshing change of pace to a fun, indi game that doesn't take itself too seriously! You can play Turnip28 as a small meeting engagement if you add a toady for each regiment as you build them. You can even play a "Toff off" with just two leaders to decide who makes the tea! Have fun!
This was so awesome. Thanks for showing us your cool things. Modelling like this is so much fun. Also, lots of these indie games like Fobiden Psalm or The Doomed, have much, much smaller model counts if you wanted something you could complete quickly
love the little carrot fellows, really great aesthetic going on with this game. Thanks for putting me onto it! Seeing some very awesome models for it floating around on the internet.
Never played or built anything related to T28, but every time I've seen something from it, i really want to get into it. Think this video has pushed me to give it a try.
I build my own terrain primarily because it turns trash into something long lasting. It makes me feel like I'm offsetting my existence a little to be keeping things out of landfills. So seeing terrain made intentionally to not last is mildly upsetting. But I actually think that it's good that you did. It's a good way to confront your neurosis and, if nothing else, it shows other builders what such a terrain should look like if they want to build something more permanent that looks like its rotting. Anyway, I love your kitbashing videos. They bring me joy.
Turnip28 really reinvigorated my passion for kitbashing and the hobby side of things in addition to being my favorite non-skirmish game. I'd love to see more turnip28 stuff. You actually don't need that many models for an army, just enough to make 4 squads and you're good to go. A batrep would be great as well!
What an awesome video! I absolutely love watching all of you just have fun. Please do more videos where you just enjoy yourself and making something creative! It just radiates joy =) Also, I can really relate to Dave's struggles with perfectionism etc. and I think that building things on purpose that cannot last are a really great way to tackle this. Thanks so much for this video :)
This was one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. The models are incredible and it's made me imagine so many cool things I want to try make myself. More of this content please!
YEESSSSS TURNIP!!! It’s so good! Incredible fun to convert for. And the rules are so sleekly inefficient it’s actually quick and fun to play. Fav game on the market! Thankyou for pointing it out to people. Deserves so much more love, Max the creator is a really nice dude too. Had the pleasure of playing him at a little event last year.
This was a great video. I’d love to see more stuff like this. Not everything needs to be a massive deep delve. Sometimes a one-off is just what we need.
Do more of this! Do it now!!! Also wish you made a scan of the turnip house to make a 3d sculpt of it as that could be the badis of a Turnip based KS campaign!
This was an absolute joy to watch. Wpuld absolutely love to see more Turnip28 and other weird indie games! Theres so many out there (and lots of them are smaller skirmish games so no need to paint a whole load!)
Bruva Alfabusa made the funniest battle report for Turnip. It’s a must watch. I bought the KS but haven’t got round to printing any yet. Do want the bee boys.
I think the term “Art” can hold a lot of weight, but I feel like it can also be interchanged with “creative work”. There is no doubt in my mind that you work is creative, and therefore, whether you like it or not, you’ve inhabited the same space an artist many times over. Love to see the attention to Turnip 28, and glad to see Miscast stepping in as an advisor.
I would love to see more non-GW stuff on the channel! As much as I like the GW sculpts, it's refreshing to see something new. When you guys have fun, it really shows

Competitive gardening is VERY much a thing here in the rural USA, too.
I've loved seeing the community creations for Trench Crusade, everyone has something unique and special to share.
Super glad to see you covering this game. The official art makes my conversion brain go nuts. I started planning yesterday! Hero forge is amazing. Great idea for T28!
Bolt Action, Pike and Shot, Middle-Earth (yes I know it's GW,) Infinity... There's a lot of other miniatures games ripe for kitbashing.
"Carrots carry the rot" no kidding, but it s a lovely song.
Yay! Love seeing more turnip content! Absolutely had a blast making mud sodden bois, seemed like you all had a fun time making yours!
Thank you for doing this!
I've been having SO much fun kitbashing and painting my weird little T28 soldiers
Glad to see it let y'all take a break and just be silly, artsy, and enjoy yourselves!
Love seeing indie games on tabletop time! hope you guys find more ones that you guys like :)
Please yes more of this. Anything outside of the GW sphere.
Check out Necroplis 28 and Trench Crusade too!
I love everything about this video. Love to see you guys having fun doing something different. More please! 🙏
The songs lately are hilarious, a great addition!
Yes! More turnip stuff please!! Been waiting for you all to cover this for a while
"YOU NO TAKE CRYSTAL!" "YOU NO TAKE CARROT!" "lol, fish :)"
"I'm going to make some terrain out of a turnip"
*Baldrick intensifies*
So THIS was that little turnip out in the countryside that he was saving up for!
love turnip 28 content. Really brings out the creative. feel free to make more!
13:48 the maniacal laughter is absolutely perfect
I love all of these! They're all so perfectly, amazingly silly in the best way!
Really like what you all created! I always thought of what Dave did as art!
YESSSSSSSS, potato soldiery is the best
"Once upon a time, in a land too close for comfort..."
What an awesome video! I absolutely love watching all of you just have fun. Please do more videos where you just enjoy yourself and making something creative! It just radiates joy =)
Also, I can really relate to Dave's struggles with perfectionism etc. and I think that building things on purpose that cannot last are a really great way to tackle this. Thanks so much for this video :)
Yesss loving this! Definitely liking the mix up of main stream and lesser known wargames
more like this! indie scene is poppin
YES let’s goooo can’t wait to see what you lot create
You dont need to make many more models to have a full regiment, just 1 cannon, 3 cavalry, and, say, 4 chaff, and you're done! 8 models!
This was one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. The models are incredible and it's made me imagine so many cool things I want to try make myself. More of this content please!
As someone who has never done any wargames and is here just for the cool arts, I definitely prefer these videos over “regular” warhammer videos
YEESSSSS TURNIP!!! It’s so good! Incredible fun to convert for. And the rules are so sleekly inefficient it’s actually quick and fun to play.
Fav game on the market! Thankyou for pointing it out to people. Deserves so much more love,
Max the creator is a really nice dude too. Had the pleasure of playing him at a little event last year.
I like the art direction! I'll have to check it out
This was a great video. I’d love to see more stuff like this. Not everything needs to be a massive deep delve. Sometimes a one-off is just what we need.
This is by far my favourite video you've put out this year
Yassss - creative work guys!
Turnip28 is the best thing that has happened to this hobby in many, many years. I've had so much fun converting, painting and playing for this game.
Love the songs lately, I feel then passion. This has turned into my favorite hobby channel.
This video inspired my 8 year old to start a turnip28 army. She really enjoyed seeing the fish man.
Honoured!
The fish man would be great for the new swill part of the setting
this was so silly and ridic - i ADORED it!!!!! and the song - oh my - so much giggling was done :) thank you so much!!!!!
We need to see the Snail Knight
I really hope this video does well, I’d definitely want to see more of this! Also I love that intro, definitely nailed the British documentary vibe
Carrot hats are such a spectacular idea Dave!!!!! 20/20 out of 10 warband!
I would LOVE to see more Non-GW stuff on this channel!
I love this so much! There's something so creepy about the merging of nature and human, almost hag-like aesthetic. Seriously cool stuff!
This was very fun to watch and it seemed like you had fun too, I would watch more of this❤
Oh hell yeah! Finally a big channel to cover this
